How I Met Your Mother executive producer Cater Bays tells me exclusively that there will be “an attempted reconciliation between two exes” later this season.
Does this mean Robin and Barney will rekindle their legendarily short romance? Bays hinted at such a possibility a few months ago when he told me the couple’s “story is not over, for sure.”
Then again, it could just as easily be Ted and Robin. Or Ted and Stella. Or Ted and… Well, you get the picture. There are a lot of options.

Agreed – I would much prefer it be Robin and Barney, I was annoyed that they showed him pining after her for so long only to cut it short after a few episodes.
Don’t be sorry for speaking the truth! It’s “How I Met Your Mother” not “How I Met Robin and Followed Her Around Like a Puppy Whilst NOT Finding Your Mother”. Ugh.
Kirstie, they addressed in the first episode that Robin is not the mother which ends with future Ted saying “and that’s the story of how I met your aunt Robin.” and the kids looking surprised.
I was first to comment on an article one time. But I didn’t do a dumb one word comment such as “First.” I had a real comment. It was pretty neat. I felt like king loser for a few hours after getting that first comment in. Comment. Felt I needed to mention comment one more time. Comment.

Victoria is the main ‘ex’ of Ted’s that I want an update from. The other being Trudy.
that’s who i’m thinking it could be…but i guess we’ll find out later…i’m excited yet sad about the season ending.
YES! Bring back Victoria. She was the best ever. Flawless character and perfect for Ted. I’ve watched the episodes she was in more than any others.
I miss Trudy, but I’m pretty sure she was thrown out in passing recently as being married.
Nicotine there just was a Trudy reference in the last episode. When Lily and Marshall are running through potential dates for Ted they mention that Trudy is married.
I’ve always thought Victoria would turn out to be the mother. But I only want them to bring her back if that’s true – not so Ted can mess it up again.

I am so tired of people saying things have “jumped the shark.” I love this show. Honestly, I’m not real concerned with who the mother is. The fun of the show is in the story of the group of friends. Plus, if we meet the mother now, wouldn’t that mean the show would be over? Hmm. As for the possible reconciliation, I’d personally like to see Barney & Robin together again. I think they could do interesting things with that.

I agree. I think they did not do the Barney/Robin story justice. It was just a train wreck. Barney spent all of that time pining for Robin and then they broke up in like five minutes but we had to sit through years of on-again off-again with Ted and Robin. PLEASE just keep Barney and Robin together. They are made for each other.

Agree completely. I don’t think its Barney and Robin just because I don’t think they know how the write them yet. I see a BRomance reunion towards the end of the series, although wouldn’t we all love it to be earlier?
I could see a very nice ending of having Marshall and Lily happy with a baby, Robin and Barney back together for keeps, and Ted wondering through the streets, coming face to face with the mother, suddenly (being someone we’ve seen before from a distance/been mildly acquainted with).
Whenever we meet the mother (and I’m okay to wait it out as I enjoy the show too much for it to end just yet) it will be in the last scene of the last episode of the season and she will be under the yellow umberella.
Honestly, I would love the show to continue once Ted actually does meet the mother and see how their relationship develops.
