I’ve got some big news for all my Super friends out there.
I’m hearing The CW has decided to package Smallville’s upcoming (and highly-anticipated) Justice Society-themed two-parter into a two-hour movie event airing on Feb. 5.
The Geoff Johns-penned episodes — titled “Society” and “Legends” and featuring such DC Comics stalwarts as Stargirl, Hawkman, and Dr. Fate — were originally designed to air separately. But, according to Smallville insiders, CW execs felt they could get more mileage out of combining them.
I tend do agree. Do you? Sound off in the comments!
Oh, and if you thought this scoop was super, just wait. There’s another (even bigger) Smallville-related treat coming your way later today.

Woohoo! that would be so awesome!
Please, please no. Cancel this show now. It has become so embarrassing to watch after the first 2 seasons. It started out with such a great idea and reasonably good cast with Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum being the best. Now, it has deviated from its mainidea – what it was like for Clark growing up in Smallville, not Metropolis. They should have ended it after he left high school, had an epilogue showing him run down the street reenacting Crhistopher Reeve from the 1st film and rip open his shirt to show the S symbol and then fade to black – 3 seasons at most. Then it would have been one of the best superman series ever.
You do know you can cancel anytime by not watching!!!!
Johnny, are you serious with this crap? Yes, this show has changed over the years. Yes, it is no longer about Clark’s high school years. It’s even better now. It’s become an actual alternative reality for Clark becoming Superman. The characters are all the same but the events are slightly different. As a longtime comics fan, I think it’s brilliant. First off, as much as I love the films, they deviate GREATLY from comics canon. This show has managed to tackle issues that the films never even touched . If you don’t like it then don’t watch but seriously, why be such a jerk to those of us that enjoy it and want to see it succeed? I’ll never understand people that do that. I’m psyched for the movie and I’m so glad the show has tranformed into this new Superman story.
I hardly think my opinion that the show was once good but now its not qualifies me as a jerk. I was never used offensive language nor was I condescending. If you found it offensive, this show means way too much to you and I suggest you see a therapist.
OH MY GOD!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE HIM STAND ON THE TOP OF THE DAILY PLANET, THROWING COMIC BOOKS TO ALL OF US WHO KEEP RELIGIOUS DOGMA…no, I can’t go on.
You idiots who squirm at artistic license in the Superman world need look no further than the various forays DC took in “alternate” realities with Clark, Bruce, et al, to see that your zealotry can be really stagnating and confining. STOP WATCHING, and if you have, SHUT UP!!!!
Can’t reply to Johnny’s final comments down below so I’ll reply here. Johnny,I absolutely respect that you dislike the show now and have different views. But I actually do agree that suggesting that this show is now “embarsssing” is kind of mean and un-necessary because it insinuates that people who still like it are somehow less than you or something. Also, your comment below about “therapy” WAS mean and condesending. You are entitled to your opinion. I respect that. However, I think your last comment was out of line. If you don’t like the show, you can easily change the channel. Luckily, there are thousands of options on TV now a days.
If you hate the show so much, why do you still follow news about it?
Wish we could cancel you from making stupid comments.
For what it’s worth, although I think it could have gone into the college years, or at least through four seasons, the show really lost its balance by S3, and now it’s just a shambling corpse. So maybe your way would have been best. Then we all would have been spared Clark turning from an earnest, good-natured young man into Thugman, he who engages in property damage, mindrape, and choking wimmins.
You know it’s ppl like you that gets great shows taken off the air because of the remarks that gets said. An i totaly disagrea with you.
Your an idot. But, you are entitled to your opinion! But your still an idiot.
Agreed. I think this show has long overstayed its welcome. We’re talking about a Clark Kent show in its 9th season and he still can’t fly and he’s still not Superman!
Also, I can’t believe the anger being thrown at the orignal poster. Just calm down, people. Smallville used to be huge, it used to get viewers in the 8-9 million range. A lot of people have given up on this show, and they’re opinions are valid.
While I can understand why people may not want to watch the show anymore, what difference does it make to you if it is cancelled or not? Basically if you don’t like the show anymore just don’t watch.
Its called the power button on the remote control!!
Johnny Dom’
hey what you smoking, do all of us a favor and pass the blunt….Everyone don’t sweat there’s bound to be a few of Johnny Dom’s running around trying to spread joy to all…
Why do you make comments like this. Shouldn’t you have written this like 4 or 5 YEARS ago…..
I don’t get people that read articles about shows they don’t like and complain that it should be cancelled.
I doubt you’ve watched even a second of season 9, as it’s been brilliant and if you don’t like it….don’t watch it, END OF STORY!!!
The show isn’t crap because it doesn’t stick to comic canon. The show is crap because they fired all the good writers, and the ones they have left can’t be bothered. And no, I’m not a troll, but someone who used to love Smallville and won’t watch it when it’s crap.
I have to agree with Johnny on this one. I’ve never liked the idea of Smallville. I saw the premiere episode and absolutely hated it. So i didn’t watch in until this season because it looked like an interesting episode and it was worse that the first episode!! C’mon Lois Lane does kung-fu?!!
Plus, Clark Kent is a man and he hasn’t even donned any glasses changed his look nothing. Also there are too many people who know about his powers and what he can do. It’s a joke!
Just hurry up and get him into his Superman outfit and call it a series.
amen!!! The series has been terrific but unlike a lot of successful longrunning series I’m afraid it’s overstayed it’s welcome…..you hit the mark on the incredible cast but it’s NOW like “stuffing an elephant into a shoe box!!”
YES! Stop watching then if you don’t like. If you don’t like the show, why did you post in the first place or for that matter do a search on it which brought you to this blog. You’re a closet Smallville lover. Admit it!
to johnny..
y’know i thought the same way when the show first came on and it took me til the 6th or 7th season that had Green arrow to peak my interest..however its quite obvious that not only are you not a comic book fan at all-but that you never bothered towatch more than one season of the show to base such a non-informative opinion. thanks for trying to be an ass right off the cuff, but really? obviously if you were right at all the show would’ve been axed a long time ago. the show has grown and embraced the fans and more importantly the mythology of not only Superman but the DC universe as well. Name one Comic Book property that has been able to go as far as 9 seasons on television, without interuption or change of casting?? They have persevered and improved regardless of cast or script. Also as I am a full fledge comic book geek, I understand that yes, they have changed certain minor details-Jimmy got killed, then there is the Chloe character, and the kid flash which wasn’t Barry Allen-but it doesn’t matter though, and do you know why?? The realized awhile ago that they could write what they wanted as long as the end result was Superman Flying. Period. Which Earth is it?? It doesn’t matter..I’m sure if the series keeps going then that question might get answered but that is the cool thing about this show!!That’s why I watch it and have grown addicted to it. Too bad you haven’t ,you’re missing out. Oh and by the way Eastwick got cancelled..bitch.
I agree with Johnny, and I loved the show in the beginning, but the story seemed to stall after season 2 and it just seemed to be so much filler. And honestly by now who doesn’t know Clark is unusual or is gifted? All of these teases and lame winks to the audience foreshadowing his future have become tiring. It is clear they do not have a cohesive story from season 1 up to and including now. Lana is a martial arts expert? please. The whole cave story dragged on and on and went nowhere. This new Lois is an insult to the character – she is really just eye candy attempting to show she has “spunk”. The Green Arrow has been poorly executed and honestly is an antiquated character. The show should not have been called Smallville, they have moved past his formative years , Tom Welling is 32. I mean this is beyond ridiculous. Christopher Reeve was 26 when the Superman movie came out and he was portraying a young Superman. And all of you rabid fans should realize people criticizing the show were big fans of the show at one point but now are just frustrated at the lost potential, and forums like this allow opposing opinions to be heard. If you don’t like it, move to China
I just wanted to comment on Domino’s opinion of the show, it reminded me of something funny I saw on the soup. The SAG awards were being covered and this one weirdo dude who had a women’s voice said that Jane Krakowski’s outfit was so terrible it almost ruined the SAG awards, to which Joel Mchale said sarcastically “That bitch. Let’s kill her.” I’m taking the same ground on this that Mchale took, Yeah let’s kill Smallville.
I am really happy to hear this great news. I have really enjoyed the latest season of Smallville. It’s been great to see Clark act so mature and grown up. This season’s arc with Zod is interesting and I really like Clark’s relationship with Lois. Excited for the movie.
To me, the show lost it’s way from SEasons 5-7. It sort of found it’s way back in SEason 8 in the first half and it’s been awesome in Season 9. But I guess we can all see things differently and are all entitled to different opinions. But this season has been my favorite in years. ::shrugs:: But if you don’t like it, that’s your right. Find something else to watch.
Yeah, we still watch it, because the end will probably be worth it. But I am aware how pathetic the show has become. But, among those, are the reall great episodes like “Justice” in S6 and so on.
Wait. People still watch this?
Listen here Johnny Domino, you obviously have NO idea what you are talking about because smallville is the best show on tv and the fans of it have been waiting a LONG time for this! I really hope the CW decides to do this!
Please, it is NOT the best show on tv – maybe on the CW but that isn’t saying much
yeah for your information..HE IS IN MEtropols..he works at the planet..hes with lois..HE IS SUPERMAN, if ya cant see that then dont comment on the show? Thanks.
Yeah i agree this is SO AWESOME!!
What a way to start off the comments for Smallville. Someone, please move them some place else. They don’t belong sinse they are directed towards many years ago and have absolutely nothing to do with this article.
I love the idea of a two hour Smallville TV movie! Maybe we’ll get a real TV movie like Sex and the City.
Go Smallville! The show is great this season.
Wow first!!!!!!!!
Go me!!!!
LOVE SMALLVILLE AND LOVE BEING 1ST COMMENT!!!
Whoops! Eh, oh well.
DAMN U LORI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Max *cue evil laugh*
Can’t wait the other news too, if it’s bigger! S10 greenlit?
JUST U WAIT LORI, ILL GET YOU!
Michael is coming back to Smallville?
I think this would be an awesome idea, That along with another and guaranteed 10th season
woohoo! that’s gonna be one killer epi. Are they going to make available as a movie dvd? And stop teasing what’s the other news coming down the pipe. COuld it be a Return of Lex? Or better yet a Season 10!!!
OMG!!! this is awesome!!! yay!!! I soo can’t wait for Jan 29th…
Huh, that’s cool! I would have thought they’d have gotten higher numbers for two weeks than one, but that’s cool.
Awesome. I can’t wait. Smallville is the best it’s been in years. Hopefully this will help to get a 10th season.
I’m proud to say that I’ve never seen an episode of this show. The entire premise just sounds so stupid to me. I’ll start watching when Clark becomes Superman and dons the costume, until then, yawn.
Hey Jeff! You sound super cool. It’s so awesome that you are proud to brag that you never watched this show. What’s really cool is that you find time to comment/insult on a show that you have never watched. It’s clear you have a very important life to attend to! Thanks for your input! (I laugh my ass off at this kind of thing. Why do people waste their time commenting on a show they don’t watch?)
yeah i dont get why people who dont watch the show can talk so much trash?..Smallville is an amazing show, its lasted 9 years..(soon to be 10).
THAT you’re proud of? Not graduating with honors, awarded a Purple Heart, saving a busload of children, being quintilingual, kitten rescue, etc….but your source of pride is a claim to have never watched an episode of Smallville? Aim higher, dude.
Jen, besides being extremely funny, your response illustrates Jeff W.’s rather skewed sense of accomplishment.
Please go away. “Ugly Betty” needs its audience back.
Seriously, just ignore this person. Do you know how much it says about people that are willing to waste their time commenting on threads for shows that they don’t even watch? I know I don’t bother with shows I don’t watch because frankly, my time is more precious than that. Why would I bother? Just ignore idiots like that.
Jeff, if only I had had your wisdom. Instead I’m clawing my eyes out over this lightswitched dribble. What a waste of years.
Actually, Clark may not be calling himself Superman yet (he currently goes by the name “The Blur”, which Lois gave him in a Daily Planet article), but he is wearing a getup that is a nod to the black Kryptonian suit Superman wore in the comics for a while. It’s an all black outfit, with a gray S symbol on the chest. The only reason people don’t realize it’s a costume is because he wears a black trench over it.
That’s interesting…
OMG! What amazing news! Brilliant idea! This season of Smallville just keeps getting better!
Good God, I love this show. All hail kelly and Brian for FINALLY bringing us the SMallville we have waited for for 9 freaking years!!
I’m not sure what that will do for ratings, but I personally love the idea.
Now we just need a real Smallville movie!
Dude. I cannot believe this show is still on.
Well, Morgan, believe it. If you don’t watch it or care, then why waste your time here?
its called freedom of speech, ya dont like it, too bad.
I am with Kate on this one, GO SMALLVILLE
