Ausiello: I’ll say this: ABC’s promo gurus are very sneaky! While we’re on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm to me exclusively that she’s taking another leave of absence from Grey’s — but this time her reasons are personal, not professional. Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some QT with new daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie will be MIA for another string of episodes (most likely in early 2010.)
Question: Please tell me something will happen soon on Grey’s Anatomy that will make me stop hating the Chief! —Ann
Ausiello: Would the sight of him falling off the wagon do the trick? ‘Cause that’s what happens at the end of this week’s episode.

Ausiello: Next week, he spills his guts to someone that he’s the father of Quinn’s baby. And she doesn’t respond the way he expected.
Question: It’s been a while since you’ve given us any Private Practice scoop! Is it just me or are Sam and Addison developing some romantic chemistry? Is there any possibility the writers might go there? —Jackie
Ausiello: If they were to go there, I have a feeling it would be during the final minutes of this week’s episode.
Question: This week’s episode of Lie to Me was awesome! Any word as to whether FOX is going to order a full season? —Rachel
Ausiello: Still no word on a back-nine pick-up, but I have a hunch we’ll be hearing some news on that front soon. Meanwhile, next week’s episode finds Lightman and Foster trying to track down the biological parents of a teenager who realizes he was abducted as a baby. But it’s Lightman’s parenting that comes into question when he has to bend the truth to his own daughter.
Question: Do you realize that you haven’t mentioned The Big Bang Theory in Ask Ausiello since August? Is it because of residual anger over Jim Parsons getting flipping robbed at the Emmys? Any scoop on our scientists? —Bethany
Ausiello: If I had an assistant I would totally make him/her/it fact-check the hell out of that August accusation. That can’t be right. Anyway, the hitcom’s Dec. 7 episode will be chock full of what Kaley Cuoco affectionately refers to as “Shenny moments.” In the episode, Penny asks Sheldon to teach her “a little physics” in order to get closer to Leonard. And believe it or not, he agrees! Sheldon deems it “Project Gorilla,” as he figures if someone could teach sign language to Koko the gorilla, then surely he could teach rudimentary physics to Penny.
Question: I know you don’t usually write about Leverage, but maybe you could give me some scoop on the second half of season 2 for my birthday. —Bree
Ausiello: Didn’t you use that birthday line on me two weeks ago? Eh, whatever. Look for Nate to be thrown together with his ex-wife Maggie on a case in an episode that also marks the return of his nemesis Sterling. Also, Luke Perry will play an unscrupulous psychic in a guest turn my mole describes as “chilling.” Lastly, Eliot will finally put a baseball bat to its proper use.
Question: The last episode of House was painful to watch for us ‘Huddy’ fans. Please tell me Cuddy will drop the stupid PI and give House a chance? —Heather
Ausiello: Looks like we’re stuck with Lucas at least through early February. If it makes you feel any better, rumors that House’s mental institution lay, Lydia, will be paying a visit to Princeton-Plainsboro are apparently not true. An insider says there are no immediate plans for Franka Potente to return.
Question: What do you know about Numb3rs’ likely series finale? —Alana
Ausiello: I know that the episode will feature a wedding, but not the one Charlie and Amita are currently planning.

Ausiello: I have some Chuck scoop. In episode 10, Casey does something bad. REALLY bad. Could-cost-him-his-job bad. And it’s connected to this.
Question: Is it too soon for Big Love scoop? — Caroline
Ausiello: Too soon? ROFLOLRULOCO? It’s never too soon for scoop on TV’s second best drama (after Mad Men, natch). About midway through the show’s fourth season (debuting Jan. 10), the taboo-shattering drama will finally go there with Ben and Margene. “We have flirted for three years with [that] relationship,” says series co-creator Mark V. Olsen. “And this year we finally decided to pay it off.”
Question: Is there anything you can give us to hold us over until Scrubs’ Dec. 1 premiere? —Jillian
Ausiello: I can give you the 411 on the first two episodes, both of which I have seen and (for the most part) enjoyed. The med-school revamp was a bit jarring, I’ll admit, but it helped having so many familiar faces on hand (including J.D., Turk, Elliot, Kelso, Janitor and The Todd). Among the new faces, the breakout character is, without question, Dave Franco’s entitled douchebag, Cole. But as for whether Kerry Bishe’s Lucy has a strong enough voice, as it were, to inherit the narrator baton from Zach Braff’s J.D… well, the jury’s still out. And now for the spoilers: The first two episodes contain news of a death, Dr. Cox takes a page from Dr. House’s playbook and refers to his students as numbers (although he adds his own special twist), and J.D. and Turk’s hit single “Guy Love” makes a comeback.
Question: According to IMDB, Alexis Bledel will appear in an episode of Lost this season. Is that true? –Anita

Ausiello: All signs point to… it not happening. ABC insiders tell me Betty is staying put on Fridays for now. The most likely candidate to inherit Eastwick’s Wednesdays at 10 p.m. timeslot early next year is Lost. Speaking of Betty, is it just me or is the show kind of on fire right now? Every episode this season has been a winner. I’m even staying awake during the Daniel scenes!
Question: Ugly Betty seems to be fighting hard to win back viewers and fans this season. These episodes are way stronger than anything in season three. Got scoop? —J
Ausiello: Is there an echo in here? I better check the acoustics. In the meantime, look for Matt Newton (Becki Newton’s real-life bro) to debut in the upcoming Bahamas episode as Mark’s new boyfriend. But that’s old news. Here’s some new news: His stint has been expanded. He’ll now appear in roughly four episodes. Additionally, Nadia Dajani (Emily’s Reasons Why Not) has been cast as Mode’s new creative director for a couple episodes. Cal Hartley imports her from the movie business to try to makeover the magazine.
Question: Any details on what brings Zatanna back to Smallville? —Jeffrey
Ausiello: I hear she’s going to stir up some love-triangle drama between Lois and Clark. The episode’s called “Warrior” and, as I scooped in the latest episode of Ausiello TV, it’s the one set at San Diego Comic-Con Metropolis Wonder-Con. In other Smallville news, Tom Welling’s practically naked — and he’s making out with Lois!
Question: Any hints about the new love interest for Chloe on Smallville? —Sandra

From what else I’ve read of the new season, I think we’ll be seeing both Kelso and Carla at some point (though Carla will not a regular; I’m not sure about Kelso).
I was kind of hoping that Chloe’s new love interest would be Bart or Ollie. Interested to see who it’s going to be, though.
I thought the new love guy was supposed to be hacker dude from last week..I thought they had chemistry. I’d take a Bart/Chloe pairing too.
I didn’t think that would be too bad, but it’s sort of Jimmy #2. Plus he’s like 5 years younger than her, which I could handle but it still seems a little weird for her to be dating a 20 year old.
I definitely think Betty has gotten sooooo much better this season! I am a fanatic and was sad to almost be over it by the end of last season (Cherry 7UP? Really??) but these first few episodes have finally renewed my hope!

I haven’t been impressed with TBBT this season. The Leonard/Penny relationship has not been working for me. This episode sounds interesting, I have always liked the Sheldon/Penny dynamic.
I’m not really crazy about the whole Leonard/Penny thing either. The Sheldon and Penny interactions are usually the best. Leonard is too whiny most of the time.

I popped my husband’s BBT cherry a couple days ago. He really liked the show (I was afraid he wouldn’t because it was a pretty weak episode), but the first thing he said when he realized that Penny and Leonard were a couple was “but wait, isn’t he gay?”. I completely concur with him that Leonard is way too effeminate for Penny to realistically be interested in him. But the interactions between she and Sheldon are funnier, more realistic, and they obviously have way more chemistry. If I didn’t know better (which I don’t), I would say those two have something going on behind the scenes. Maybe?
WORD! Sheldon and Penny are comedy gold. The sooner tptb realize that the better.

Why did Heigl bother coming back. I havent missed Izzie what so ever since she has been gone and to come back just to go again. What was the point of her returning at all.
Couldn’t agree more! In fact, the last few Izzie-less episodes have been stronger than normal. Give Heigl her walking papers once and for all. She will not be missed!
Heigl definitely needs to go…permanently. Shes a waste of screentime, leave that to the people who actually want to be on the show.
Aww, am I the only one who still likes Izzie despite her obnoxiousness? Probably. I think she hasn’t been missed just because we know she’s coming back. PLUS they keep shoving these new characters into our faces and we’re too busy trying to figure out what their deals are, or hating them, to notice. Or, you know, that might just be me being one of the only Izzie fans left and making excuses. But really, there’s so many freaking characters on this show now that take anyone out for a little while and they’re not going to be missed too much. Everybody needs their story lines, and Izzie has been so in our faces lately that this break has been fine by me…but I don’t want her gone forever!
Actually I think she will be very much missed and it is pretty clear most of you have no idea what you are talking about. ABC will not let her go – she is contracted and their biggest name. It is pretty clear they want to hold on to her. As for “people who actually want to be on the show” – Pompeo and Dempsey (and others) have all said they dont see themselves on the show much longer – next season being their last contractually. Jtohsix – plenty of Izzie fans out here – the show isn’t the same without her and I know a lot of people who will not watch or watch a lot less avidly because of her absence.

You must watch a different show to me, because Katherine Heigl is the best thing about Grey’s as far as I am concerned. She returned to the show because erm..doh…she is contractually obliged to for a start. Personally if she is taking some time to spend it with her daughter thats great. I applaud her for putting family before her work.

Darren2 – I didnt like the ghost of Denny thing too much – though it wasnt a ghost at all, but I also do appreciate Heigl has done a lot phenomenal work on the show. For me the worst was the George / Izzie hookup. But that is down to the writers and Shonda Rhimes. The actress to her credit has done a fantastic job and continues to do so.
I miss Izzie A LOT! She’s awesome, and the show is really lacking without her around. I wish they’d pre-tape some scenes with her, like they did with Ellen Pompeo, so she won’t be completely absent from strings of episodes.
It’s interesting… few people express hatred of male characters on Grey’s, but there’s quite a bit of viciousness aimed at some female characters, most notably Izzie and Meredith.

Well, the Chief kinda bugs me, and I really didn’t like Burke. Does that help? I don’t hate Mer, especially now that she’s happy and not whining all the time. But Izzie needs to go. Seriously. The show has been so much better without her.
i may be in the minority here but I’m not missing Izzie on Grey’s Anatomy. Unlike some people I’m starting to like the new characters and I’m glad the last two episodes were for the most focused on one character. In the past couple of seasons of grey’s, Izzie has been annoying as ever. I much prefer Meredith to her. And I HATE the way that Izzie has been treating Alex (especially judging by this weeks previews). I would much rather have the new characters and get rid of Izzie completely than have them both stick around. For me, the last two episodes have been much stronger without Izzie than the beginning episodes that included her.
I cannot believe they are going there with Ben and Margene on Big Love! I’m horrified and curious all at once.
I’m pumped. I called that one from the get-go. Literally, from the beginning of the first season. I’m shocked and impressed they’ve managed to hold off this long. It will be exciting to see which one ends up suffering more, and what the repercussions will be.
At least he’ll probably be 18 if it happens (if he’s not already? I forget). I’m curious, too, I always sort of liked them…will be interesting to see what happens.
God, this storyline has unending dramatic possibilities! ‘Big Love’ has got guts to go there after the status quo has been so established. Hot damn, I can’t wait.

5 week hiatus? Yuck! Great episode on Monday though — they really know how to tug at everyone’s heartstrings. Anyway, I hope Lucas is gone by episode 11 or 12…he needs to leave! Bringing back Lydia would be sort of pointless, although entertaining (and painful) to watch.

I really hope Lydia won´t come back. Her story with House was nice but bringing her back would ruin the beauty of that moment and the beauty moments between him and Cuddy yet to come.
I think if she comes back will be in the season finale and this is not written yet so it´s impossible for Ausi´s mole to know for sure.

I’m thinking Tim knocks up his landlady’s daughter, no? Or maybe, just maybe, Julie is the one who gets the abortion. That would be very sneaky of Aus to refer to her as a student to throw us off. Which suits me just fine. I like sneaky.
