A CBS spokesperson is confirming that the network has cut Numb3rs‘ episode order from 22 to 16. Translation: This is most likely the show’s final season.
I’m hearing Flashpoint will likely take over the Friday 10 p.m. timeslot in February, although there’s been no official confirmation of that.
In related news, CBS has upped the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: LA, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24, while requesting one additional episode of Criminal Minds, CSI: NY, The Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife, CSI, and The Mentalist, bringing their totals from 22 to 23.

I haven’t been able to get into this show this year.. Or most of last year.. I love Flash Point though
We are already watching flashpoint here in Canada. It is really great this season.
I do watch numbers but it is getting a little stale.
While I’m rooting for the Border, I’d be putting money on Flashpoint cleaning up at this year’s Geminis. Can’t wait for Sunday!
This season started out really badly – the whole storyline about Larry being depressed or something was terrible and went nowhere..it became awkward to watch. Don’s recent discovery of religion sounded interesting but that has now gone nowhere, but I am glad they got rid of that bland attorney girlfriend he had last season who seemed to come out of nowhere.
Flashpoint was BORING, it will be cancelled soon here.
Honestly I don’t think the show’s been the same since Megan left. It still has some good moments, but it’s kind of the last choice on the DVR. Hopefully they’ll have time to go out satisfactorily though.
2 more episodes of NCIS is alwasy good news, I just hope they are better then last night’s episode (yuck!)
Can never make it through an episode of NCIS — it’s silly without being fun silly.
Wow, you couldn’t be more wrong about NCIS.
I felt the same way when my wife and I tried to watch NCIS when it first started several years ago (2003?); but since we started watching all the reruns on the USA network, we now can’t get enough of Gibbs and the gang! Best show on the air!!!
I totally agree, and the levels of misogyny on that show are enough to make my toes curl.
yeah i agree….. numb3rs is SO much better
I agree, Mike Franks eps are so predictable!
Wow, I’m really surprised. I stopped watching after Diane Farr left, but I thought it did pretty well in the ratings.
No, it does not do that well. It’s a weak link in the CBS schedule.
ummm…. actually it’s been winning it’s timeslot for the past five years
I gave up watching Numbers just after the third season. Started getting boring to me. Happy to hear Flashpoint is coming back ,though.
well there numbers are up besides it there sith season bye thankfully
Or do you just hate the show because they can speak and spell as well as do math? I enjoy Numb3rs, it’s shame to see it go, but it has had a good run.
Learn to spell retard.
r.e.t.a.r.d.
Perhaps you could use some grammar…and a bit of compassion. There should be a comma in your terse reply! Just before the word “retard.”
I’m honestly not surprised it could be Numbers’ last season. There’s really only so much you can do with a math-involved crime solving show before it gets old…and that was a few seasons ago.
well than you obviously dont watch it then…..
I love Numb3rs and I don’t want it end, but six seasons are good.
Yay for the rest of my shows!
I also enjoy N3… but if CBS was planning to can it after this season, why not give the fans a full order instead of yet ~another!~ shortened one? First season was short, the 4th was short due to a writer’s strike and now the 6th and possibly final is going to get cut short as well? Rotten Raspberries to CBS for that sort of thinking.
sith seasons too many byeeeee cbyessss
Are you just trying to prove that you’re incapable of spelling?
Yes! More NCIS & NCIS: LA = Good times. Now, all we need is for CBS to order Season 8 of NCIS and Season 2 of NCIS: LA.
Bryan those pick-ups are practically guaranteed. No need to worry about that at all.
That’s what 20mil viewers get ya. Respec’ an’ seasons
I’m sure that CBS won’t be stupid and will renew hit shows. Hope they will renew Medium too. Now if NBC will just cancel Jay Leno and add some more good drama shows! Hopefully, they will renew Law and Order.
six seasons cya
Farewell to the only procedural I could stand, and the only drama on CBS I bothered to watch.
While is true that the show hasnt been the same since last season and this one is somewhat weak, I still have a soft spot for this series and I would hate to see it get canceled.
canceled is one thing. this sounds more like they might have been forewarned that the network isn’t planning to renew and thus they will have the chance to end things nice and tidy. which is a respectable way to do things.
the show has had a good run and perhaps it is time to let it go and let the actors move on to new characters and new stories.
I agree completely. Canceling a show mid run(Jericho anyone?) with no chance to give the viewers a satisfactory walk away point is like cheating. You feel tricked by the network into watching something that they half-a**ed. Numb3rs has a great cast with great chemistry, and it’d be nice to see some of them work together again.
I agree. I love the show and I’m sad to see it go, but if this is the last season I’m glad they are giving it time to wrap up without suddenly disappearing.
I really excited for Flashpoint to come back.
I am not surprised, the show has gotten boring. It has ignored most of it’s fantastic cast. I miss the old ‘team’ moments this year has lacked. I miss Colby, I miss Ian…. it’s time to toss out the chalk.
I used to love Numbers, but I never got into the Amita/Charlie storyline. Diane Farr leaving and the diminishing role of Peter MacNicol sure as heck didn’t help either.
I adore the whole cast though, and I hope to see them in new projects.
Personally, I hated Megan until she started the relationship with Larry. I was sooooooooooooo sad to see that end. Not many tv shows have beautiful smart women fall for geeky genius nerds.
I must admit that I haven’t watched this season at all after the piece of sh*t season finale last year. What a waste of James Callis’ time.
Sigh.
And a huge hug to whoever ordered extra eps of everyshow BUT CSI:Miami. It’s time to hang up the shades and David Caruso’s really bad acting. Have Calleigh move to New York or Las Vegas and I’ll be happy.
Megan beautiful? eh. Love Amita though. She’s on FlashForward. Yummy.
Having Calleigh move to New York or Las Vegas would cause me to stop watching those shows. CSI: Miami just has a crappy cast — none of them can act!!!
I was hoping that the entire cast of Judd Hirsch’s hit show, Taxi, would’ve made an appearance. Now that would make me watch Numbers!
once again….CBS doesn’t care about The New Adventures of Old Christine.
You’ve seen the ratings, right? Not a lot of people care about Old Christine right now.
I’m ok with this decision. I dropped the show last year. Started to focus too much on their personal lives – Don’s found religion, Charlie’s romantic life – and not enough focus on the cases. And the “revolving” cast did not help either. One week showing Colby, the next not, etc. etc.
Are you kidding me?! That’s what made this show the BEST! I need DEPTH to a character! Show me what makes them tick! Show me that there is a life outside of the office that INFLUENCES how they react to something
This is the problem with Cold Case, another CBS show. Once the writers started adding in the personal stories of the leading characters and not stick with the main storyline, it has gotten boring and ruin the purpose of the series.
I agree. I watch for the cases. I love the puzzle. The only personal story that captured my attention was the one between Megan an Larry, maybe because, surrounded by macho guys she seemed to appreciate his quiet thoughtfulness and analytical talent. Very sexy. That is why I never got into CSI Miami, too much focus on personal storylines. Calliegh is beautiful but her voice drives me crazy so please don’t have her move to Las Vegas. The original CSI is still the best.
I felt ripped off this year on Numb3rs. Last season it ended with Amitra, Charlie Epps brainy girlfriend was kidnapped right after Charlie asked her to marry him. A van drove up, several men jumped out & took her while Charlie just looked on in total panic.
When this season opened, there was NO MENTION of why those guys did that. They pretended it NEVER happened. WHY? I’m a long time viewer since the beginning & this pisses me off. So I’m not surprised they are getting the episodes cut.
Maybe they could pry Diane Farr from motherhood with her twins & see if that will spark some interest.
The showrunner has let the show go, much like the waistline of David Krumholtz (Charlie Epps)!!!!
Sounds like you missed an episode there Ski. The covered that whole thing. She was kidnapped by a cult and the leader was played by the actor from BSG. Check the CBS website and see what you missed.
You missed the finale episode! Charlie and Don rescued Amita and then Charlie proposed to Amita (on bended knee). They revealed her answer in this season’s premiere.
Yeah, sorry, Apres Ski but apparently you only watched the first half of the two-part season finale. That’s too bad because it was really good and I loved that Amita really figured out her own rescue, brainy girls rule. You can probably catch on Hulu or the CBS website.
The show isn’t the same without Diane Farr. The other female agents are hard to tell apart. And Larry and Megan were fun. There’s no other fun relationship there anymore.
Yay more HIMYM and Criminal Minds! Thank you CBS!
I thought a full order for shows was always 24 episodes. When did this change?
I think it was 22.
It’s been 22 for a while now. An initial order of 13, then if the show does well the “back 9″ (9 additional episodes) get added to the order for a total of 22. Of course, most popular shows begin a season with a full order, while new shows typically debut with just the initial order of 13 to see how they do.
And many times, a show with an order of 22 episodes will get an order for more–usually no more than two more, though.
24 is one show that, because of its format, regularly airs 24 episodes a season.
It’s 24 for a standard order, but the last 5 seasons the network has been fudging with the numbers.
Season 1 of criminal minds had 24, season 2 23, Season 3 was only 20, and Season 4 was 26.
It’s been like that with every show I checked except the CSI’s which seem to hold true on 24 eps a season (except the writer’s strike year).
Read Sally’s comment
She’s absolutely right. The FBI have enough cases in real life good cases and mistakes made by the FBI to keep that show in the #1 spot on Friday nights.
Maybe now that they’ve been cut to 16, they’ll get back to the business at hand, THE CASES!!
Nooo… I love this show. Its so awful thats its going to be canceled. Colby Granger is my favorite character. Every. Well maybe except for Tony Dinozzo
YAY more NCIS I’m game
I love Numbers and have watched it from day one…that being said, I think it is time for this show to end. It just hasn’t been the same since Diane Farr left. They really seem to be running out of stories. I’d prefer they go out on a high note than run it into the ground.
The ensemble cast got way too large to handle and detracted from the basic premise of the show – I.E. a mathematician and his very different FBI brother attempt to resolve their personal differences and get together to solve cases. This idea got kind of buried as the supporting cast grew and grew. Oh, and way too much Amita to stomach – zero chemistry between her and Charlie!
I would like to head up programming for a major network for one season aling with some fans as advisors…I would eliminate shows like Married with Children which ran 10+ years while keeping good shows like NUMb3rs
Well, if you did that you wouldn’t have a job for very long. TV programming is very simple: the more the viewers, the more the revenue, the happier the accountants are – period. You can write all the letters you want, stage all the mail ins, send all of the emails, but if enough people don’t watch, the show will be gone. They could be pictures of the second coming, but if it ends up fourth in it’s time slot it’s gone.
Actually unfortunately it is not the number who watch that counts it is the number of young people that watch that often determines the fate of a show. Numb3rs is winning its time slot but it is low in demographics, of course a lot of young people are not home at that time. I will miss it.
That’s pretty uncool to give the show a full season order and then shorten it by that many episodes. I thought the show was holding its own on Friday nights. What about “Cold Case”? I hear this is probably the last season, since the show has become too expensive.
It’s been dying creatively a little bit every single year. I agree with soapy and lament the lack of focus on the turbulence between the brothers (but I do like Amita).
Did you see the actress who plays Amita on Flash Forward? Another indication that Numb3rs is close to the end.
I used to love “Numbers” but it lost me last season. I have watched a few this season but it is a tired concept. Don should be running the FBI by now and Charlie ought to be dean!
