Exclusive: James Franco heads to '30 Rock'

Categories: 30 Rock, News

James-Franco-30-Rock_lReady for the latest twist in the incredibly wild and unpredictable career of one James Franco? Sources confirm to me exclusively that the Spider-Man/Milk actor will follow up his upcoming arc on General Hospital with a guest appearance on 30 Rock.

NBC declined to comment, but a Rock-solid insider tells me that Franco (playing himself) will be involved in a faux romance with Jane Krakowski’s Jenna — a relationship engineered by their respective agents. Sound familiar? It’s probably because this is the storyline Tina Fey floated by me at the Emmys way back in September.

”[Jenna gets] into a high-profile relationship with a movie star that is arranged by their agents,” Fey explained at the time (watch the video of our exchange below).

Franco is scheduled to start work on his Rock eppy this week.

    This is gonna be great!

This is great news. Franco is one of the best actors around right now. He can play funny or serious. Stoner or Spidey nemesis. I just re-watched Milk and his performance absolutely anchors that film. He’ll bring the goods to what, in my opinion, is one of the two funniest shows on TV.

    • dave

Agreed. Just wondering though, what’s the other funniest show on TV in your opinion?

    • MindyM

I finally got the chance to see Milk. As good as Sean Penn is, I was amazed by the performance of James Franco. He more than holds his own on screen with Penn, not an easy thing to do. I think he should have been the one nominated for best supporting actor. He is the rock of this movie. I agree that his brilliant performance anchors the film. What a talent! I don’t know how I have missed him until now. The chemistry between him and Sean in that movie was extraordinary. They just played off each other so well. James Franco never missed a beat in what was a tour de force performance. Josh Brolin was more of a one note. Franco was the real supporting standout. I expect great things from him!

  • Brooke

    Awww! Yay him!

  • Brooke

    AWE-SOME!

  • Via

Weird choices.. and I like it!

  • Mandy

I adore James Franco. He clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously and is willing to try a little of everything. Plus, he is an awesome actor and super cute!

  • rye

Makes sense since Franco did the movie “Date Night” with Tina. Maybe next we will see Mark Wahlberg or Mila Kunis show up?

  • AJ Simon

    should have been anakin skywalker

  • will

this will be amazing. I can see it now…they hate other and yell at each other when they’re together but they love on each other in public places…oh Jenna.

  • Sheree

Curiouser and curiouser … what are you up to, James Franco? (And when are we going to get another “Acting with James Franco” clip on Funny or Die?)

  • Dj

Yes, James Franco is a good actor. I haven’t seen him in a bad role yet. I was stunned when I heard he was going to be on General Hospital and now he is going to be on my favorite comedy 30 Rock. The next thing he needs to do is go on Law and Order: SVU and the Office since he is doing two of my favorite programs so far.

  • Ugly Jenny

I love that he does what people think as unconventional. And I can appreciate that he hones his acting skills by appearing on all different kinds of show, soap operas, primetime comedies, online videos, big box office movies, critcally acclaimed dramas, etc. Not only is he gorgeous, but a great actor. I’ll definitely be tuning into General Hospital and 30 Rock when he’s on!

  • OBVI

I’M SURE NBC IS PRAYING HIS DAYTIME STINT….

    RESULTS IN MORE VIEWERS.

SHOULDN’T NBC HAVE ASKED HIM TO BE ON HEROES…

    WOW…

I HOPE HE SAVES SOAP OPERA’S, NBC IS POINTLESS !!!

  • Cate

Love James Franco. Love 30 Rock. Love.

  • Nick

Franco is quickly becoming like Paul Rudd in the sense that nobody seems to have a bad thing to say about him. Granted he’s far more serious and, when it comes down to it, a superior actor to Rudd but its great that he is so highly regarded by so many people. Maybe he can save 30 Rock’s season – though I know its early to damn it.

  • Dede

He can’t “save” soaps. But I wonder where he will go to next. Will be play a drama teacher on 90210? Will he be on CSI?

  • michelekamay

Isn’t he taking film making studies? Maybe those tv stunts are just internships to him.

  • Nancy

I think it’s great that James does his own thing. He has never been an actor that follows the typical Hollywood path. He is smart, talented, and not caught up in all the celeb foolishness! Can’t wait to see him on 30 Rock.

  • Justin

James Franco can do no wrong in my eyes..

  • Stacy

Wait he was on General Hospital? Really, James Franco, Really? I love him but come on. lol well this is a much smarter move. Gotta love 30 rock.

    • Mariah

He’s GOING to be on GH. He hasn’t started airing yet.

  • Sue

James Franco’s next move: Food Network – Throwdown with Bobby Flay. You can see it, right?

  • alex

    YUM YUM YUM.

  • Red

    “Eppy”? Really?

  • bruno

okay, so i’m a huge franco fan, and yes, even plan on checking out GH…but does anyone else think 30 rock is goign the way of will and grace, remember? when it was like two seasons of guest stars every episode..??? and it got really annoying???…
