Melrose Place’s “fun and sexy” new makeover has a face — and it’s a pretty one at that.
Nick Zano, who’s currently playing Courteney Cox’s boy-toy on Cougar Town, is in talks to join The CW reboot as a pseudo-replacement for Colin Egglesfield’s dark, brooding Auggie, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Zano would be playing a doctor who works with Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) and Michael (Thomas Calabro) at Wilshire Memorial. In an interview last week, executive producer Todd Slavkin described the character as “irreverent and funny… He will move into the [apartment] building. He doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him, and he ends up lightening up Lauren.”
SPOILER ALERT: I’m told Zano’s Melrose gig wouldn’t interfere with his Cougar Town commitment since he recently shot his final episode of the ABC comedy.

I love it! I think he’d be a great addition to Melrose Place! I loved him on What I Like About You and ever since he was a movie VJ on MTV.
This is as shallow as it gets. They replace a dark, brooding character who is interesting at that, by someone who doesn’t take life and medicine serious, lame move, but Zano is pretty funny, and he was pretty cool in The Final Destination, so I’m good.
I still don’t understand the need to write off Colin. The character has tons more potential – you want to lighten him up, then move past the melodrama and lighten him up – it’s the writing stupid. The guy is hot and rock solid and stands apart from the other two male leads. No need to dump him ..
i so agree. auggie is a way better character than jonah – i fastforward almost every scene with jonah and riley.

If I were him I’d run the opposite direction. The new Melrose is a total dud. I gave it a try but it’s just not gelling. Are the same people working on the 90210? I really feel like they reinvigorated and greatly improved that show this season.
This is ridiculous. Colin’s character was one of the few with potential on that show. The Melrose Place show runners are so off the mark. They need to realize that their show is not doing well because it is not done well. It is just incoherent (no follow-through on story-lines), slow, suffers from bad casting (especially Riley and David) and is stale. There is nothing new or unique. Just trashy and re-hashed crap. This on the other hand is nothing to do with the “tone” of the show. In fact the original melrose would have used a character like Simpson’s Violet to full effect and let her craziness go full throttle. We don’t need another peppy and prissy One Tree Hill, OC or Gossip Girl. We need a scandalous, kitschy drama– full of fun outrage and intrigue. Grow some balls, showrunners, or hand the reigns over to me.

I disagree with Riley, i love her character and think her acting is natrual and also love Jonah and Ella, and Lauren, I think the show has potential if ppl would just give it a chance. They tuine in for one ep and are like “this version sucks!!” do you guys even remember the first yr of the actual Melrose place. It was boring as sh*t, give it a chance
Oh I am giving it a chance. I watch every week. I just have a problem with the direction of the show and the showrunners being totally oblivious to what is making it tank. It’s not the dark tone, it’s the clichéd dialogue, art direction and story-lines, as well as horrifying character development/continuity issues. It has potential and I hope that they understand where the real problems lie.
The showrunners are not in control. The network is in control. Don’t blame the showrunners for not being able to do exactly what they want to. The CW does not want that dark of a character – it sucks, but it’s Hollywood. The showrunners clearly are not pleased with the decision to do away with Colin’s character.
I also like both Riley and David. In fact, there really isn’t a character on the show that I don’t like aside from a certain returning character named Michael… ugh. He just needs to go.
I also don’t understand why you think there are “continuity issues.” They have pretty much had a pretty solid reasoning behind why certain characters are returning… aside from Sydney’s half baked reasoning behind her fake death.
It’s a soap. It’s not meant to be taken so seriously.
I’m pissed because I loved Colin, however maybe it’s just a ploy to get fans a reved up so that when he comes back everyone will be extra happy and they’ll have more publicity. A guy can only hope lol

He seems quite hot – whatever gets the ratings going I say – I don’t feel that people are giving Melrose Place a fair chance though – it’s a good show.
Does it even matter at this point – the show is literally DEAD when it comes to the ratings. Even a guest appearance by Jesus can’t save this show.

Yeah seriously. Can’t the CW come up with some new ideas of its own. If all they’re going to do is rehash old ideas than its going to be people who watch maybe one episode to compare it to the original, and when it sucks they stop watching. Grow up CW and find some new shows, like Privileged. And Veronica Mars. And I know that its stupid to cry over shows that were canceled so long ago or whatever but they were different than every tv show the execs at the CW keep adding. (PS GILMORE GIRLS TEN YEARS LATER LOL, and probably Buffy the second or maybe sabrina the teenage witch’s daughter)

Cougartown seems to have all the hotties on that show eh? this Nick Zano guy, the neighbor that Courtney’s character pines for and her ex husband. im a mid-20’s (gay) guy but is there something wrong with me that I am most attracted to the dad character?? haha FYI: just did an imdb search on him and the actor is Brian Van Holt. I love his character
I would have preferred “90210″ as a love interest for Jennie Garth, it would have been so weird seeing Vince and Val (WILAU) getting busy… but I’ll take him on MP (since it, unlike Cougar Town, doesn’t conflict with Glee and, therefore, is something I can actually watch on a regular basis!)

I’m gonna miss him on Cougar Town. He was great and had a lot of chemistry with courtney.
I’ve seen a couple of episodes of Glee and it just isnt for me. Cougartown is a much better show IMO. Anyways, Nick was also a host on MTV if you guys were trying to figure out where else u saw him from. Him leaving that show would mean a new young stud for Courtney’s character to pounce on.
And he was also on the Amanda Bynes/Jennie Garth sitcom “What I Like About You” a few years back.

I am SUPER bummed! I have been a fan of his since his All My Children days! Colin was one of the main reasons I watched. His chemistry with the whole cast is awesome. I also love Ella…she is so entertaining to watch. Well, hopefully they do something exciting to keep my mind off of Auggie:( I’m sure another show will pick him up and he will become even more successful.
I’m disappointed that colin is leaving the show. Dude is the hottest man on tv right now and ur going to dismiss him.. It’s ridiculous. Melrose place is about sex and colin is all that and more. I hope cougar town can get him now that zano is going to melrose place.
I think what they did to Colin really stinks. It’s not his fault the part is dark just fix it. I know that lots of people in Chicago will give up Melrose once Colin is gone. We might be alittle crazy in chicago but we are loyal

Well he was never going to be a regular on Cougar Town. It was only going to be a recurring role in an episode arc. So if this report is true Nick Zano will most likely be joining the cast of Melrose Place. Colin Egglesfield and Ashlee Simpson both knew that it was likely that they would be taken off the show once the murder mystery was solved. They both took it like proffesionals.
Egglesfield was a good character, but there really was no purpose for Simpson’s character she is just there. Just so you know, Melrose Place( reboot) will probably not last longer than one season. It hasn’t even been confirmed for a full season, so it may be axed when all the shows go on hiatus.

Auggie is a bit of a bore in my opinion. I’m fine with him leaving. Jonah is my favorite male character so far.
Jonah had nothing Auggie, he was written dark, but he was the hottest and most interesting male. Nick Zano I watched him on CT he’s not a great actor, Colin definitely looks better than him, ABC should so scoop him up. Melrose Place just made a dumb decision, they had thier first trouble starter on the show and get the cookie cutter version. LOL
The guy who plays Auggie is smokin’ hot. I’m happy to see Nick Zano in general. I still watch reruns of What I Like About You
