This just in: ABC picks up 'Castle' for full season

Categories: Castle, News

Castle-Fillion_lIt’s the news Murder, He Wrote Castle fans have been waiting for: ABC has picked up the Nathan Fillion dramedy for a full, 22-episode season!

The second-year show has been holding onto a decent chunk of its Dancing with the Stars lead-in, so the back-nine order wasn’t a total surprise. Still, it’s nice to get the official confirmation!

That brings to five the number of shows ABC has given the full-season green light to. In addition to Castle, the net has picked up The Middle, FlashForward, Cougar Town, and Modern Family.

Nice!! glad to hear, as a late newcomer to the series, i’m just getting into it…

    • tdbrown

Brent, you can see Episodes you might have missed on Hulu.com.

      • colette

tdbrown, thanks for letting us know about Hulu.com for those episodes we might have missed.

  • Michael Collado

It hasn’t held up too much of its lead-in. Hopefully for Castle fans it doesn’t have the Samantha Who? affect and getting *very* bad ratings after Dancing stops airing.

    • Michael Collado

      Whoops, and get*

    • znachki

That may be, but I believe it has been steadily growing its numbers. Which is good.

    • Tookie

I don’t watch DWTS but I always tune in for Castle.

  • Kimmy

It is already out, and it wasn’t bad for an obvious ad that it was. Decent storyline, and I’m a picky reader!

Castle has all the wonderful vibe early Bones did.
Excellent news on the pickup! Now all we need is someone in the UK to show it.

  • Jordan

I don’t watch it, but I love Nathan Fillion and he deserves all the success in the world.

    • Annika

If you want him to maintain his success, you will start watching this very entertaining show!

    Wahoo!!! That is all. :D

  • Lucy

Awesome! One of my favorite shows.

  • Yolanda

I like this show. Castle and Beckett have great chemistry.

  • lionjack@sbcglobal.net

Seriously? While Nathan Fillion is a long time fav, and Stana Katic reminds me of something out of the fancy pastry display case, Castle is a dog nonetheless. Watched it once, twice, thrice and realized I’d wasted my time. The shame here is that two relatively good actors are tied into this hoser when they could be off doing something worth seeing. Two thumbs and two borrowed thumbs down on Castle.

    • nikki

why did you bother to comment

    • talkin’

      just…shut the front door

    • Brigid

Brilliant to use your e-mail address as your posting name.

    • jen

while I really enjoy Castle (because I happen to be a sucker for this kind of show), I do agree that it’s hard to watch it and not totally miss Capt. Mal Reynolds. I know Firefly is a completely different show but he had a much harder edge that he doesn’t get to/have to show on Castle and I miss it sometimes. And I thought Stana was pretty mediocre the first season, but she’s really come around. I think she’s loosening up a little and I like her a lot more now.

      • Melinda65

I have to agree with you re: Stana. The first season, I thought that she was trying too hard to be “tough” or something and her acting was obvious, for lack of a better term. She seems much more natural this season.

      • Anei

True. I did like Stana’s character first season too, but in season two she has completely won me over. She’s subtly stepped it up, loosened up just a hair, and let us see a little of her warmer and more playful side, which is completely endearing.

  • znachki

YAY!!! Next week – little treats for fans of Nathan’s previous work!

  • EdCase

    One word: “Whooooooooooooooooooo!!!”

  • Julia

Best news I’ve heard all day! Way to go ABC.

  • jen

SUPER EXCITED!! i love this show!

  • Shiny Tim

    Feed. The. Birds.

  • Larry Flowers

This is great news, Mr. Fillion had a hit coming to him…

  • ksant

i’m lost – what is the middle?? is that on tv?
here i thought i was in the loop…

    • Jackie

The Middle is actually quite funny. It’s Patricia Heaton’s new comedy. I don’t normally watch many sitcoms (HIMYM and TBBT being the exceptions) but The Middle and Modern Family are now on my dvr.
Along with Castle of course! Woo hoo. Go Captain Tightpants :D
ps the Halloween episode looks like it’s going to be hysterical.

  • CandyMaize

Yay! Time to put the part hats on!

  • Guest

Wow Aushole, sarcastic much? Murder She Wrote is the same as Castle? Don’t think so, but you think so much of yourself that I’M SURE you think anything you say is too kewl and FUNNY HAHAHAHAHAHA (not)

    • t3hdow

Bitter much? You seem really stirred up over three measly crossed out words. Calm down.

      • Guest

Just tired of Aus talking down from his high tower. I cancelled my mag sub because of him, I unfollowed him from twitter and after this I’m done with the site. Fun is fun but arrogance isn’t – nor is making fun of posted in his vids or column.

    • Maggie

Hey Guest, when Nathan Fillion was doing the rounds of talk shows to promote the show, he said it was a combination of Moonlighting and Murder, She Wrote. Ausiello was probably just referencing that.

      • Darb07

I didn’t know that, tho i didn’t make the comment everyone is refering to, i too felt that was a low blow. but if what you said is true that’s another way to look at it. either way tho the person did take it to an extreme.

  • Kate

    Wonderful news!

With House going downhill, Castle is my new Monday night TV show!

  • Yolanda

Last nite’s episode really showed the chemistry between Beckett and Castle. I’m glad ABC is sticking with the show for the entire season. It’s Moonlighting for a new generation.

    • erb

Chemistry? Perhaps just good acting. Lots of co-workers can act like they get along when really they don’t. Not sure either way with these two but JMO it might just be good craft and not real chemistry.

      • erb

Forgot to add – I do enjoy the interaction between Castle’s family. Nice work being done by those two actors (Susan Sullivan and Molly C. Quinn). Do enjoy the show – even the corny jokes.

      • Bethann

I don’t understand your comment. When actors are able to successfully convey that their characters really appreciate and enjoy one another, even — perhaps especially — in those instances when the actors don’t get along off-camera (not that anyone’s claiming this is the case with Fillion and Katic), that’s pretty much exactly what people mean when they say the actors “have great chemistry.” That’s what it means generally — the actors are believable at conveying their characters really get along. It doesn’t always or exclusively mean the actors have convinced everyone their characters are in love or attracted to each other. Chemistry comes in many forms; romantic is only one of them.

  • Hillary

Happy, happy. Joy, joy. Was a little worried this morning when there was no Castle recap– thought EW had given up.

    • Barb

      I know! Where is it?!?!

      • Bethann

It’s in Alynda Wheat’s “Beat Cop” column, which went up late yesterday afternoon. Although you have to wade through an unreasonably cranky recap of last week’s “Law & Order” to get to it.
