Exclusive: Who's dying on 'Desperate Housewives'?

dying-on-Desperate-Housewives_lIt’s a showrunner’s prerogative to change his mind. So, although he insisted he wasn’t killing off any characters in this November’s big Wisteria Lane plane crash, Desperate Housewives boss man Marc Cherry has decided, on second thought, to kill several, including one that my mole says is a fan favorite. But who? Beats me, but frontrunners for the ill-fated fan fave, as far as I can see, are:

Orson: How do you write a klepto-killing blackmailer like this out of the corner he’s in? You write him out, period.

Karl: By the time his affair with Bree ends in disaster (and it will), Susan’s ex will have tried out pretty much every mattress in the neighborhood. Maybe now it’s time for him to test-drive a coffin.

Katherine: Time’s running out before her nervous breakdown stops being funny and starts being sad. Maybe she’d be better off if time was simply up.

Andrew: Shawn Pyfrom asked to be taken off contract this season so that he could pursue other interests in his free time. Having a plane crash into his character would give him even more free time, now wouldn’t it?

Julie: Given all her problems this season (pregnancy scare, adulterous affair, near-death strangulation, having Susan as a mother, etc.), I wouldn’t be surprised if she ran into the path of the plane.

Bob and/or Lee: These two are so dullsville, I vote for taking both of them out and turning the keys to their house over to Cam and Mitchell from Modern Family.

Jackson: It’s a classic soap opera twist: A well-liked character vanishes, only to return on the very day tragedy strikes. But Cherry wouldn’t be that cruel… or would he?

So who do you think will bite it? And remember, the doomed character may not be on the above list – my guesses are educated, sure, but not infallible – so feel free to suggest your own candidate(s) below…

Ugh my first thought was Andrew; I hope they don’t go that direction. Orson please :)

    • el

it would be nice if it was Orson, but who would describe him as a fan favorite. :)

      • Emma

I love Andrew. It sucks that he’s getting so little screen time this season. He was one of the few characters on DH that actually seems to grow up over the course of the series. What possible purpose would that serve? Get rid of Katherine.

    • Laura

Now that I think about it, I actually wouldn’t mind if ALL of the people on Ausiello’s list died.
      (but especially Orson!)

    • Desperatefan

Well they did say several people will be killed. I just hope it’s not Julie. Let it be Orson!!!

    • Marie

If it’s a fan favorite, my money’s on Julie, Mrs McCluskey or Andrew. And they should just kill Orson. And I have to agree, replace Bob and Lee with Cam and Mitchell!

      • Nancy

If they did that (Get Cam & Mitchell) I can hear Gabby making some snide comment about the “gay house”

      • Leigh

Apparently Mrs. McCluskey won’t die. Marc Cherry has said in the past that he was sad that Kathryn Joosten’s earlier recurring characters such as Mrs. Landringham on West Wing died so he said he wouldn’t kill Mrs. McCluskey off. Plus, the fact that she has to battle lung cancer a second time, would make it totally cruel for Cherry to axe her.

My money is on Orson. I really liked him in the 3rd season, but now he’s annoying.

    • DB

I’m still shocked they kept Orson around beyond last season, so i hope it’s a gift to fans to kill him off in Nov. please~

    • sara

Pls let it be SUSAN – she is ore annoying than EVER!!

    • sara

i hope its not andrew or gaby – those 2 have really really grown up through the series and i like the so much!

  • craig

FYI i think the crash actually airs in December – it’s their last ep of the Fall

    • Ally

November is sweeps. Huge stunts like this always fall during sweeps.

      • charlie

which is why I think that they will leave it with us thinking several folks are dead.

and then come back in Jan to find out that all is not what it seemed

  • Caro

Better not be Karl or Marc Cherry should start running for his life now. He’s one of the few that still make the show enjoyable

    • jade-alice

      agreed. ^^

    • IcePrincess

You are absolutely right ! If Cherry kills Karl, then I’ll kill him :)

      • Renee

Damn Straight!!! He better not kill Karl. He’s Awesome. Orson should definitely die though. Honestly, I couldn’t see Julie dieing or the gays and Andrew doesn’t fit into it really. But if Orson does die it should be like planned. somehow.

  • Jon

Well, its not Susan because she’s not a “fan favorite.”

    • Belle

Amen to that! I hate how they changed the character of Katherine. She was used to out Bree which made Bree so jealous. It does not make any sense why she would be working FOR Bree instead of them being Partners. Katherine used to be a strong independent woman and now she is the pitiful lady running after Mike.

      • Jon L

I couldnt agree with you more Belle. I really liked Katherine in her first season, but she is just pretty pitiful and her story this season just doesnt appeal to me very much.

      • SenatorGrisham

        I agree with every word.
I still hope that after the breakdown Katherine will arise to be strong and independent, again,
        Please not kill Katherine!
My wish- kill off Orson. it will make life better for Bree and us.

      • Renee

I agree Katherine is pathetic though I think she is still entertaining to watch, but they should really up her status from “scorned woman”

  • sam

Not Andrew! Kill someone more recent! Andrew still has a lot of story left in him. I vote for Orson (but I fear it’s McCluskey. please, no!)

    • Sassy

This would make sense because of her recent health issues.

    • Travis

Isn’t there talks of a spinoff with Kathryn Joosten and Lily Tomlin, if so it would be unlikely they would kill her character.

  • nicole

I hope it isn’t katherine just because I love dana delany… I hope its not mcclusky either… I don’t care if it is Orson… I feel like if they kill of any of the characters kids it would be too much… I mean like even tho the kids are grown I feel that is still too sensitive and hard to work around in the future

    • Sini

I totally agree! They can’t kill of Katherine but I really hope they kill Orson and mabe Andrew and then bring Dylan back at the funeral?I dunno its just an idea but does anyone have any idea who Susan shoots in the next episode????

  • BruceV

Do I sense a connection between this story and the item about the actor who found out he was off the show when reading the script?

And, off topic I know, does anyone know why Balthazar Getty continues to be in the opening credits of Brothers & Sisters. Just noticed this in the most recent ep.

    • Dave

It’s pretty much been all but confirmed that the blind item actor was from Heroes … and Kathryn Joosten, who plays Mrs. McCloskey, has had succesful surgery for her recurrent lung cancer and is said to be doing very well.

    • Kim

Balthazar Getty Is supposed to be returning to the show. I’m not sure for how long but I do know he will be back at some point.

    • mj

in response to the question about balthazar getty… supposedly he and julia (his wife) are coming back for justin and rebecca’s wedding

    • Travis

Getty remains part of the cast but his episode count was cut down as part of cost cutting moves. He will return at some point.

  • cc

OMG I wish it was Susan…seriously.

  • renton

They don’t know what to do with Orson or Katherine, so I’d take ‘em both out.

Andrew and Julie would be too devastating to their respective TV parents – having Susan or Bree lose a child would have long, lingering impact that Cherry wouldn’t want to deal with. Easier to just make Andrew’s character not part of the action for awhile than to kill him off.

    • Sam

Agreed I do not know what I would do if there was no Julie! Actually I do…stop watching the show!

    • Seanti

But hasn’t Cherry said before that he was interested in exploring the grief a parent goes through over losing a child? As much as I hate to say it, I think Andrew might be on the short list. (Couldn’t we have Danielle come back and bite it, instead?)

  • Mike

I really hope it isn’t Andrew. Bob and Lee need a storyline!!! I think it will be either Katherine (she might be flying the plane?) or Orson (which would lead Bree to lots of guilt about her affair), or Karl

  • anon

I hope it’s Julie. I don’t care about the others. Who does anyway?

    • Sam

agreed: Like I said before she is the only one I do care far…I love andrea bowen’s acting and she is the only reason I watch it…I stopped last year and I didn’t watch any (except the eps she was in, like 2)…SO i would be upsent

      • sara

yea i like julie & andrew so much – i hope they keep them on – hope its susan or orson

  • JACKHART

WHO CARES … MAYBE DEXTER SHOULD TAKE OUT THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD (SAME TIME SLOT / LESS COMPETITION)

  • paige

its gonna be Mrs McClusky considering the actress has lung cancer

  • anon

    >>McClusky
    Now that would be sad.

  • wrstlgirl

Jackson’s got to be the fan favorite. At least if it’s him we’ll get a chance to see Gale Harold again!

    • Strepsi

… especially if it was on a fictional airline where passengers fly nude.

  • no

I never cared for Katherine. Set her free…

  • Roxie

I hope it’s not Orson or Lee/Bob (although Bob is pretty boring by himself… so maybe I wouldn’t miss him)

It defo won’t be Kat or Andrew, but maybe Karl…….. they Bree/Karl/Orson thing is supposed to come to an explosive end.

  • Nicole

I think it will be Andrew, Cherry has said before that he has considered killing of someones kid/

  • Cardsgal

I know it won’t be, but wish it would be Lynette and her entire family, especially the twins (and I don’t mean her chest).

  • Rebeca

Well Marc said all the ladies will be alive so that rules Katherine out. Also, the Orson/Bree/Karl is part of the major cliffhanger for the first half of the season so I put my money there. Not to mention Kyle himself said he’s thinking of leaving the show as well. And finally? The Scavo twin in Europe returns in that episode.

That being said, Cherry better keep his word about not killing any of the ladies – I wouldn’t miss Susan though – but really don’t kill off Katherine! I love Dana Delany and she’s playing nutty Katherine perfectly.

    • Daniel

When I hear the phrase “all the ladies,” I think Bree, Susan, Gabby, and Lynette. Other women that stepped up to main-line housewife status (Betty Applewhite, Edie, for example) are either gone or dead and gone. Katherine I don’t think is or ever will be included in the “all the ladies” category.

      • ShutUpRob

I wish it were Gabby and Carlos. Cherry’s asinine writing of them killed the show for me at the end of season 1 and beginning of season 2.
        .
        – Rob

      • Rebeca

Well Katherine’s part of them since the end of Season 4, at least within the cast and crew she’s an official housewife.

  • filmboymichael

If it’s Mrs. McCluskey, I fear I won’t need to watch the show anymore….first Bree, then McCluskey….it would be too much!

  • filmboymichael

    actually….I meant Edie….ooops!

  • M

I agree with Rebecca – I think the Scavo twin might die and the stress of the loss will cause Lynette to miscarry. That would be super because I’m tired of her being preggers!! Not to mention it would give Lynette a great storyline for the 2nd half of the season. Also if the plane took out Orson I would smile!

    • leslie

I realize this is ficiton, M, and I kind of understand your “rationale,” but please don’t refer to a miscarriage – not to mention the loss of a total of FOUR children – as being “super.” I’m not even watching regularly any more, but I have to admit the Lynette pregnancy plotline is wacko. The fact that she did choose to happily keep the current set of twins may well be the setup for their demise, though.

      • leslie

        “Current” meaning the pregnancy.

      • Gracie

I don’t think you could say Lynette chose to “happily keep the current set of twins.” It seems she has been anything but happy over this pregnancy even if she has gone ahead with it. I’m sure if this was on cable instead of family-friendly ABC/Disney the Scavos might have at least discussed abortion as an option at some point.

      • Sally

        I agree with Leslie

    • Marti W

Yes, I’m disappointed in the pregnancy storyline as well. And the lying to Carlos stuff – it all feels “oh no, not again!” cartoony or something. (like an unfunny one)

  • Johnny

I think Kathryn Joosten (Mrs. McClusky) has an agreement by Marc Cherry that her character will never be killed off.

    • michelekamay

Thank God, she’s a delight on DH. Feel better Ms Joosten!
I think it might be Orson, but Bree has already buried two husbands…black widow much?

      • Katie R

No she hasnt. She only buried her husband Rex and her stalker-awesome-boyfriend George Williams.

  • Poolie

Please let it finally be that boring tool Orson! He should have left 2 seasons ago. Actually any of the whining husband would be a good kill but Orson first please!! But then again how many millions of other similar boring and ridiculous middle-age crisis can they give poor Doug Savant.

    More Bob & Lee please!!!!

  • mells

why can’t they kill off the annoying noo nawyka neighbors. angie is so annoying.

  • Denise

Please let the plane land on Tom.

  • Gem

Surely he can’t kill Orson… I’m NOT a fan of the man, but seriously, that means Bree’s lost two husbands and one (fake and weird and creepy) fiance. Then again it might mean he gives Marcia Cross back some of the drama she so richly deserves and excels at instead of ridiculous comedy storylines…

    • Charlene

Agreed about Marcia Cross. When was the last time this woman, who carried season 2 on her crazy acting back, had a decent storyline. Why do they keep on giving her this sitcom crap when clearly that’s not where her talents lie?

      • Renee

I completely agree with you. I basically lived for her parts in Season two… It’s not very nice that I liked her as an Alcoholic though.

  • Angie

It’s not McCluskey. She said in a recent show that it is in her contract not to be killed off.

  • Jennifer

I think it’s going to be one of Lynette’s kids…this would really give her a meaty storyline. Heck, if she loses a child and miscarries, I could see it really turning her to alcohol or something ala her mother. She would feel super guilty.
