At long last the mother father is revealed!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that comic goofball Chris Elliott has landed the pivotal role of Lily’s estranged dad on How I Met Your Mother.
The highly-anticipated family reunion is slated to air Nov. 23 when father and daughter come face-to-face at a Thanksgiving celebration hosted by Lily’s grandparents.
I’m told the episode will feature childhood flashbacks that will shed light on Lily’s very troubled relationship with her father. Word is the dude was a big-time loser/crook, which makes Elliott’s casting pretty perfect if you ask me.

Wish they’d have brought in Tony Head from BtVS. That would have been fun.

holy hell. I think Caruso would be extremely miscast….I can’t imagine him being funny. He’s the main reason I don’t watch CSI: Miami (I love the other 2 CSIs)…I think he is horrible, really a bad actor.

I have to agree with T.T…Alyson Hannigan is the reason I feel in love with this show! Marshall and Lily crack me up every episode. Without them I would have no reason to watch this show. Give Her An Emmy!!!
bravo! I think Alyson is fantastic in capturing the little quirks of Lily, I think she’s under-appreciated and maybe this will be a good Lily story. I, for one, am getting a little sick of seeing more Robin and not enough Lily. I’ve never liked Robin, she’s an unlikeable character. Love love love the show still!
Interesting how the 2 female leads both have daddy issues. Barney totally needs to exploit that more often!

Chris is the “kiss of death” for a tv series…..this is the last season for sure…

I love Chris Elliott. He’s hilarious and he comes from a comedy dynasty. (His dad is half of Bob & Ray, and his daughter is on SNL.) I was thinking more of the Scott Bakula type as her dad, but obviously they were taking the character a different way. Chris Elliott does clueless, sleazy loser better than just about anybody.

I don’t know why people find this guy funny? He’s really not. Okay..creepy hand guy in Scary Movie 2 was funny, but besides that he’s really not.
Why all the hate for Chris Elliott? He’s terrifically funny, I cite Groundhog Day as an example of how well he played off the legend that is Bill Murray. He’s perfectly cast as Lily’s dad because Lily’s a bit wacky herself.

First of all this episode has been pretty good. And chris elliot is a great choice for playing a deadbeat dad and a sleezeball.
OK, folks, you are clearly missing the bigger news here. This all goes down at Thanksgiving with Lily’s grandparents. They’ve left it open for a while, and now we’ll finally learn the truth: is Lily Aldrin’s grandfather Buzz? Not even concerned about Chris Elliott at this point. If they could get Buzz Aldrin to play himself and be Lily’s grandpa, I would personally bow before Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as gods of television.
Second. They totally need to get Buzz Aldrin on the show. I’ve thought that for years.

This choice annoys me. “How I Met Your Mother” is one of my favorite comedies, but last season and this season have lost something for me. Adding the guy who killed “Everybody Loves Raymond” is one more bad decision in the line of having Barney and Robin together, and having over the top sex humor instead of clever plots. I hope this show hasn’t jumped the shark.
I completely agree about Barney and Robin, I thought I was the only one who wasn’t on board with this. I do not see the chemistry between them as a couple. Plus I feel like Barney’s character will change, it’s awkward seeing him “in love”. Also, Robin’s feelings for Barney came out of nowhere. We saw Barney struggling with his feelings recurring through season 4, but for Robin, her feelings for Barney were never even hinted at and then bam, they’re a couple. I don’t think the relationship will last.
I wonder if lily’s dad had an illegitimate duaghter in Russia who became a stripper.
Love Chris Elliot. Anhtony HEad would have been good too. But Elliot is one of my favorite comedians.

Love this show but Lily is definitely the worst character. I’m glad they are casting the role of her father as someone who treated her poorly. I would if she were my daughter. Marshall could do way better.
