Exclusive: NBC may move up 'Chuck' launch

Categories: Chuck, News

Chuck-Levi-Yvonne_lIt’s good news (for me), bad news (for NBC): Since its numbers are down and its new and returning shows are mainly DOA (Southland was axed before new episodes even aired!), Chuck’s third season might get to premiere sooner than the March date that’s been bandied about thus far.

“How much sooner” you ask?

As early as late October, my moles tell me. And while it remains unclear whether the little show that could (and has and shall again) would return to its Monday timeslot or find itself a new perch, NBC insiders who’ve seen the first four episodes are calling this season the best yet.

But wait, there’s more. If Chuck does come back sooner rather than later, the chances of NBC ordering additional episodes beyond the 13 it initially commissioned increases dramatically. And they increase further if it performs solidly… which for NBC, at this point, means my cat, Mister Scooch, sits down to watch with me. (Seriously, anything above a 2 rating in the 18-49 demo should do the trick.)

Are we happy, people? Dumb question. Allow me to rephrase: How happy are we? Weigh in below!

    • josh

Easily one of the best shows on tv

  • John

Officially the only good that could possibly come from Southland’s premature demise. I do love me some Chuck!

  • Sarah El

PLEASE bring Chuck back ASAP! Just make sure it doesn’t get stranded in a bad timeslot. It would kill me if Chuck got canceled anytime soon. I miss it so. D:

  • nooo

    EFFFF NO.
    SCREW CHUCK.

    • Brody

      Go away, please.

      • joey

I second that. Go away, bear.

    • Ryan

      To noooo:

SCREW YOU. If you don’t like Chuck go away then.

    • Lau

If you said that you’ve probably never watched Chuck. Why would you take the time to write that comment on an entry that is all about Chuck? Mmmmm…

    • Adam

Have you ever watched the show? If so then tell me why you don’t like it. If not then shut up and don’t offer your opinion on something you don’t know about. By the way, Chuck rules.

    • kristy

      Chuck is the best.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Lulu

      sippin dat hater-ade.

    • Jack Mandeville

      screw u beeotch!

    • Chris

yeah, get off here and go watch survivor. can’t wait for Chuck.

  • Jason

I HATE that this may come at the expense of Southland, but it is still some good news.

    • Warda

Agreed. I’ve never even seen Southland, but if NBC can treat Southland that cavalierly, there’s no reason they wouldn’t treat Chuck equally badly. Bad precedent. That said, I would be very happy to see Chuck air before March, even if the reason has me more than a little wary.

      • Bill

        I’ve seen both
        Chuck AND Southland, so
        give me Chuck!!!

  • Cris

    Awesome! I love Chuck!

  • EMB

Perfect way to end my week, with good news about Chuck. LOVE IT!! Fingers crossed that this comes to pass.

  • Michal

This is the best news in this fall season. I can not wait!!!

  • shadi

HELLLL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH SO EXCITED I HOPE IT RETURNS EARLY

    • topoopon

Jeez shadi! Did you have to steal what I was gonna post?!?!

      Whee! Chuck! :)

  • Jen

    Yay Chuck!
NBC- please, please, please bring back Chuck in October! And order more episodes!

    • SuperAgent01

I so agree! I also promise to bring more people to watch the show! ;)

  • Jo

    Oh, VERY VERY EXCITED!

  • Dominick

How about we keep Chuck away from House and HIMYM. There has to be a better timeslot for it.

    • Brody

      Agreed. Tuesday, maybe?

      • Tim G. (@rural_juror)

Definitely Tuesday. Shorten Biggest Loser to an hour (honestly, why is it 2 hours every week?) and put it on at 9pm so it gets a good lead-in!

      • Brody

Makes sense to me. I’ve always thought Biggest Loser should be one hour, anyway. Plus, then its biggest competition is NCIS:LA, which doesn’t exactly draw the same audience, unlike HIMYM on Mondays.

      • Sarah El

Sounds like a good plan to me! Giving it its old timeslot (which is occupied by Heroes now anyway and as much as Heroes should just go die in a hole, it’s a RIDICULOUSLY competitive time slot) would be a disaster. Tuesdays sound perfect. :D

      • JB

Great idea! Tuesday marks the spot!!!

      • Karen

I agree with Tuesday. My Tuesdays are currently free and are just used for my DVR. So that’d be perfect.

      • Amanda

Tuesday is perfect–there’s nothing on (it’s not like the target demo is watching NCIS)! Do it NBC–we want more Chuck! I’m so psyched that its supposed to be better than ever!

      • Emily N.

I don’t watch anything on Tuesdays so that would be a great night for Chuck. Also, Wednesday at 8pm works too.

      • Stylez

Tuesdays wouldn’t be great unless you want our beloved show to go up against the perennial monster called American Idol

      • squirlgirl

Definitely Tuesday at 9pm. Split Biggest Loser into 2 hour-long shows with the second hour airing Friday night in Southland’s timeslot. I have a feeling that people who watch that show are home Friday nights to watch the weekly results.

      • Jacob

        I love NCIS. D:
Right now my poor Monday and Wednesday don’t have any show, so whichever one gives it a better chance for more viewers…

  • Kristina

    Captain Awesome would approve!

  • Brody

Hooray!!! Viva CHUCK!!! In honor of this news, I am going to Subway for dinner.

  • Lindsey

Oh, Michael, please don’t tease us! If this doesn’t happen now, I’ll be too disappointed.

  • KendallJaye

    One word: SQUEEEE!!!!!!!

  • Heather

I wanted to like trauma, but i’ll do anything to get Chuck back on Monday and as soon as possible.

  • Sara

Yeah, this is definitely coming at the expense of Southland. 50 bucks says Chuck gets the 9 pm Friday timeslot. F–k NBC.

    • Brody

JUST SAY NO to the Friday death slot!!!

    • Sarah El

Please not Friday. I would rather wait until March than see Chuck die out in the fall because of a bad timeslot.

  • mojojojo

dont like this. it leaves little time for promo and also means the only slot open would be fridays. not good for the long term survival of the show.

    • Justin

Very good point. With the demise of Southland, the only place Chuck could get would be its Friday opening, which for most shows means death. I can definitely wait if that’s the case.

  • TerribleBob

God I love that picture…I love this news even more!

  • sabrina

i’d be really happy on one hand to have chuck, my all-time favorite show ever, back asap but on the other hand i think that the promotion they could do for chuck during the olympics would help alot, so therefor it would be better for the show (not for us fans who want it back now) to air after the olympics…correct me if i’m wrong

    • Brody

      Hmm. Good point.

    • Becki

Agreed. It’d be nice to see Chuck earlier than March, but if promotion during the Olympics will bring in new/more viewers, then I can wait. I do wish it would get another time slot though.

    • Marianne

Add me to the “agree” list on this too. As much as I want Chuck to come back ASAP, I also want its chances to succeed with a larger audience as well. If Chuck does come back before the Olympics it wouldn’t get as much exposure to non-Chuck fans, since people who don’t usually watch NBC’s scheduled programming wouldn’t see all the promos and such. Oh well, trying not to be pessimistic. If it does come back early, we fans have to help spread the Chuck love!

    • topoopon

      Nah! Bring it NOW!!!

  • Lily

It was only a matter of time! Chuck is the best show NBC has to offer and among the top 5 that aired last year on the sum of big networks, in my opinion at least, so it was a matter of when those suits would start seeing things clearly..

  • Liz

That is amazing! It makes em so happy.

  • Jenna V.

YESS!!! i’m ESTATIC!! oh my god, i hope this happens!!

  • Chloeville

Great news! I really miss this show, and am looking forward to the new season.

  • phil

    WOOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jess

    *gasps*

I almost stopped breathing. More Chuck, and sooner??? Be still, my heart.

However, I don’t want to get my hopes up too high….

  • Lorie

    Suh-weet!!!

  • Chad

This really doesn’t have much to do with southland being canceled. Trauma is preforming poorly for their high budget. Expect it to be axed next week without improvements. Chuck will probably regain it’s old time pushing heroes back to the slot it had last year.

    • Tim G. (@rural_juror)

Nooo, no more Monday night. Switch Mercy to Mondays and give Chuck the 8pm spot on Wednesdays instead.

    • Calli

Ooh, I really hope that’s not true. Out of all the medical-type dramas that started this season, Trauma’s the only one I like. Maybe they’ll move that to Southland’s Friday slot and put Chuck on Mondays?

  • Kermonk

    Three cheers for Mr. Scooch!

    • jjnado

Bring it back on Wednesdays….seriously…there’s nothing on (except Christine) that night to watch except Eastwick at 10….NBC, LISTEN! YOU WOULD WIN WED. WITH CHUCK AT 8 PM!

      • Modcini

Don’t care when, as long as they bring it back soon.
