Exclusive: Amy Poehler returns to 'SNL' (REALLY?!)

155554__amy_lNBC is bringing in the big guns to help launch its new Thursday night comedy lineup this fall. Actually, more like big gun: Amy Poehler.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Poehler will reunite with Seth Meyers behind the anchor desk for Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday on Sept. 17. The Poehler-ized Update will lead into the second season premiere of Poehler’s Parks and Recreation at 8:30 pm, followed by the return of The Office at 9, and the debut of the new comedy Community at 9:30. (30 Rock returns October 15.)

Wait — there’s more…

Poehler, who just scored a second consecutive supporting actress Emmy nod  for SNL (word is she wisely submitted the “Palin Rap” episode), will co-anchor SNLWUT with Meyers the following Thursday (Sept. 24) as well. It’s unclear who (if anyone) he’ll be paired with for SNLWUT‘’s four scheduled episodes after that.

Amy and Seth, together again! Woo-hoo, right?!

Cancel PARKS and send Amy back to SNL.

  • Hannah

YAY! So excited! Weekend Update hasn’t been the same since Amy left. Totally going to watch it now that she’s back for these two weeks!

And while I agree P&R isn’t what I expected it to be, it still isn’t like the other crap half hour comedies out there (i’m talking to you ABC, especially since you canceled the only good half-hour one aka Samantha Who)

    • Michelle

      Hear, hear re: Samantha Who!!

      • Nadine

Yep, Samantha Who is brilliant. If the same quality show with the same ratings had a male lead, it would have been renewed.

  • M

This new format is SO much better.

    • Jennifer

      Agreed

  • Angela

The only thing I don’t understand is who actually watches SNL anymore, it hasn’t been funny in years except for the Palin bit (and really, who couldn’t have made fun of that?). it’s actually painful to watch that show with the long silences during the sketches where laughter SHOULD be, but isn’t.

    • jcs

you’re wrong – SNL has been strong in recent years. my guess is that you haven’t been watching. I’d love to see amy back full time, no parks.

      • Luke

especially the Timberlake episodes, the whole lot is gold !

    • Bret

SNL has between 5 million and 7 million regular viewers during the regular season. That’s who.

    • Mrs Pasha

I watch it. There are always some good skits.

    • Yoja

I’ll admit that I only laugh at about half of the sketches, but a lot of it depends on who is hosting each week. Put someone like Amy Adams or Michael Phelps on, and I’m not laughing a whole lot. But put Alec Baldwin or Christopher Walken on and I’m laughing through the majority of the episode. The host has a lot to do with how funny the show is. That’s why I’m not a regular watcher. I have to say, though, that I am thoroughly geeked at the idea of Amy and Seth on Thursdays. I will totally tune in for those!

    • Patrick

Sorry.. but you’re must be watching MadTV or something. I haven’t missed an episode of SNL in the past few years. I haven’t heard any “long silences”

  • mike

Parks and Recreation is awful. Amy can join the other SNLers whose career high was SNL. Glad she’s back even for a couple of weeks.

  • gigi

Yay!! I was really a fan of Tina Fey and Amy. But Seth and Amy are great together too! Love the “Really! With Seth and Amy” segments!! Great to know she’s coming back. Hopefully SNL will do more Week end update Thursday shows too!!

  • JKS

Won’t this just make it even more painfully obvious that Seth Meyers is not good on his own?

    • Ashley

Agreed. Weekend Update used to be the highlight of the show for me. Now there really isn’t one.

      • jenn

I third that statement. I’d rather they’d replaced Amy with anyone else than left Seth to do it on his own.

  • bunker

    Seth Meyers is terrible.

  • Gina

SNL hasn’t been funny for awhile. Dump those losers Andy Samberg and Kristin Wiig. Neither is funny and both are one dimensional. Bring back Amy. She’s worth the two of them.

    • Cece

ummmm ok. you obviously have a very different sense of humor than most so just go watch CSI or something if you’re looking for a laugh. Just because YOU don’t find something funny doesn’t mean it isn’t good. PLENTY of people enjoy it! Andy samberg and kristen wiig have, if anything, increased the previous greatness of the show!

  • mike

so are any of these stories you posted today the big news we were supposed to get within 24 hours? or was that false advertisiing

  • Yogurt

Bunch of whiny twats in this thread. Parks isn’t as good as the Office, but it’s still better that 95% of the shows on TV. And SNL has been good for the last couple of years. The only people bitching haven’t been watching. Kristin Wiig is fking hilarious. So in Bill Hader. So is Fred Armison.
    Morons.

  • hey mike and Gina

You’re both inbred morons, so go watch and obey Glenn Blecch!

  • Danny

The episodes after that will be with Kristen Wiig! (YAAY)

  • KeeferD420

I love Seth AND Amy and I’m psyched to see them re-united. They make a great team.
I also like P&R and am excited to see the 2nd season. Great cast and love the humor in it. :)

  • James T.

Its like saying hey the third string quarterback is back.

    • Bret

No. It’s like saying that you’re back in Special Olympic Bowling.
