'Tudors' exclusive: Joely Richardson crowned Queen

Categories: News

Joely-Richardson_lI’m hearing Nip/Tuck’s Joely Richardson has
scored one of the hottest TV roles out there right now: Katherine Parr on
Showtime’s The Tudors.

Although unconfirmed by Showtime, a well-placed source tells me that Richardson will play Henry’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) last wife during Tudors’ fourth
and final season, which is slated to debut in Spring 2010.

Production on Nip/Tuck’s final season wrapped last month, freeing Richardson up to take the gig.

A number of high profile actresses have circled the
plum part, including ****** **i*** and (as I previously reportedThe X-Files’ Gillian Anderson.

Thoughts?!

I’ve always liked her in Nip/Tuck. I’ve never seen Tudors, but I’m sure she’ll do great

That’s actually a great match. She can be interesting and sympathetic but is older. Very good.

  • nancy

Well, she’s lucky to be married to JRM

  • Kristen

I love Joely Richardson, but Catherine Parr was only 31 when she married Henry.

Isn’t Joley Richardson on that awful, awful Fox “sitcom” ‘Til Death’ (w/ that barbaric, unfunny Jewish goon Brad Garrett) that keeps getting renewed and retooled, renewed and retooled?
*** Edit: I’m sorry. I mixed Richardson w/ Fisher. My bad. But seriously, though… Brad Garrett needs to be kicked to death to Hell. :-)

KJIH-TV, considering your obvious level of intelligence, you should be living in a cave, not perusing the internet.

Its a shame the show wont continue on telling the stories of Mary and Elizabeth – now THATS some exciting stuff! I guess its too expensive to produce, as Rome was.

  • Ashes

D&mn! I wanted Gillian Anderson for the role.

  • orville

I wish that they’d continue on with Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth too, but, alas and alack, they won’t. Can’t really sex-up (which seems to be the major prerequisitie for the show) the reign of Edward.

  • Michelle

Sweet! Not exactly who I pictured, but that’s ok. She’s a great actress.

  • Anna

Great choice! Katherine Parr was only 31, but she comes off as old in history. Probably because 31 was considered as “old” then, when Henry was marrying 17 year olds, etc. Also, Katherine was widowed like three times before she married Henry.
I do wish that they would continue with Mary and Elizabeth. The actress that plays Mary is doing an amazing job.

  • Matthew

Laoise Murray will be playing young Queen Elizabeth, she’s in my school :D

    • Spencer Christie

Yup she’s so funny and is an AMAZING actress!! O.O is this matthew nuding?

  • Dianna

When does the next season start..? I have been netflixing the ones that I have been missing but did watch the season and episodes with Joss Stone as Anne of Cleaves…

  • VickiL

Why are virtually all of the Cable series limited to 4 years or less? It doesn’t appear to have anything to do with viewership numbers. Does if have to anything syndication? Educate me please.

  • Tudorsfan

I like the choice. I love Jonathan on this show

  • Abby

They rushed the Tudor Dynasty without aging anyone! JRM looks about the age Henry was married to Queen Anne in Season Four. I have great difficulty believing the storyline anymore.
Season Three (with the exception of Joss Stone and the first 3 Episodes) was poorly dealt with. (It’s not that you can do too much with that era, but I really just want to see JRM in a fat suit. It’s not about accuracy anymore. It’s about believeability!
Queen Katharine Parr was a nursemaid with limited sexual connection to the king, who tended to his syphillitic legs and managed to thankfully restore Elizabeth to succession.
I know I’m being picky. But as a amateur Tudor Scholar long before the show ever came out to see people think this is even close to historically accurate makes me visibly ill.
With that being said: I miss Anne Boylen, Thomas More, Catharine of Aragon, and even Jane Seymour. Also, Parr has been cast well in any event.

  • Meg

I would have LOVED to see Gillian Anderson in the juicy role (I have been an ‘X-Files’ fan for years now). Alas, no luck.
By the way Ausiello, Miss Parr’s name is spelled “Catherine,” not “Katherine.”

  • chgogirl

Meg – it is Katherine with a K. The 5th wife was Catherine (Howard) with a C. Just sayin.

  • jen

But Henry wasnt as fat as like obese fatties today are fat. He was really just “chunky” up until the very end when he was so ill. He wasnt 350, 400 lbs! No need for a fat suit.

  • jen

Gillian Anderson is notoriously difficult. Perhaps they didnt want to deal with all that on set.

  • A. Rae

Abby, I’m with you. I absolutely can’t deal with the total inaccuracy of JRM as the (physically) larger-than-life Henry. I really can’t watch this show because I know too much about the Tudors and I can’t just suspend my disbelief and enjoy…

  • Jen is an idiot

Jen, get your fat facts straight. Henry grew to be very obese. He was a fit, smaller bodied man as a younger king. By the time he got older, he was wearing a size 52. That ain’t chunky. That’s fat.
