The Beautiful Life will go on, with or without its troubled star Mischa Barton.
Although reps for The CW and CBS Television Studios declined to comment, multiple sources confirm that producers of the upcoming model-centric drama are quietly readying a Plan B in light of the former O.C. actress’ current medical woes. Said plan involves the addition of a new female character to fill the void left by Barton. While not a direct recast, the new recurring character — tentatively named Jane — would bear a striking resemblance to Barton’s experienced supermodel, Sonja Stone. Casting is underway.
Production on Beautiful Life, originally scheduled to begin on July 22, was pushed back a week — but not because of Barton. Per a spokesperson for The CW, the show’s sets were not ready for their close-up. Production is now set to resume the last week of July ahead of a Sept. 16 launch.
Barton was hospitalized last week after calling the L.A.P.D. with an unspecified health problem. Reports that she has been placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at an L.A. hospital have not been confirmed by her reps.

She should be fired, it was her own choice to start doing illegal drugs and nobody should have any sympathy for her.
I would love to see fellow-OCer Rachel Bilson or Autumn Reesner back on TV

There are so many other talented, humble and professional young actresses out there. The industry has given Barton so many chances.
This girl should be on Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew
Just put Mischa in the next installment of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here with Lindsay Lohan and there’s your problem solved
Adam, Autumn Reeser is already back on TV. She is on Entourage (HBO).
Well I for one LOVE Mischa, so I hope plan B does not have to go into effect. She is so graceful (on camera, not in real life), and she just lights up a room. But I also agree that Autumn Reeser would be an even better choice. OC foreva!
I’m over her. Soooooo over.
I wish Misha Barton the best. But I’m really sad that The CW canceled Privileged for this mess. Definitely will not be tuning into The Beautiful Life.
Anyone notice- even before this happened, Mischa has barely done any promotions for the show. Isn’t that strange, especially since she’s the most recognizable name? She wasn’t at the CW Upfronts(although her excuse was she was overseas for that shampoo she’s hawking)But in the last few months, she hasn’t appeared in a single event with her costars on the show. Sarah Paxton has been doing the bulk of the promotions.
Mano, I thought that was hair!!! lol I wasn’t sure yesterday.
HER not hair…i cant spell
Why does the US always feel the need to take someone else idea and mess with it? The UK original was great I doubt I will check this one out,
Maybe I’m still annoyed we never got closure and an 8th Gilmore Girls season!
Plan B? How about Susan Boyle? She would bring to the show much media attention.
I always thought she was nuts.
Maybe the producers should check with Lindsay Lohan’s people and see if she’s available. Snort.
I was really hoping that CW would give Body Politic a chance with the latest development of this show! I like entertaining shows as much as the next person and I do think Gossip Girl and 90210 fits that category but seriously I wish CW would give another genere a chance!! I mean they have had so many great shows (Veronica Mars, Jack & Bobby, I know the channel was WB back then, but still!) and I just wish they would give show some thoughtful shows a chance, rather than sex and teens!
That is ONE OF THE WORST PLAN B’S EVER!
It’s Mischa friggin’ Barton! Just kill off her character since they obviously had to even consider a Plan B is a sad indication that Mischa Barton is an unreliable mess.
I wouldn’t be surprised if all she worked for was cocaine.
How about an actress that used to be a model like Jamie King, Estella Warren, or Izabella Miko?
And this show isn’t a remake of a UK show. Not sure what you’re talking about, Craig.
Plan B should be The Body Politic… wait, that should have been Plan A. The CW already has The Beautiful it’s called ANTM… Seriously, how about giving a show with class a chance? After killing Veronica Mars you owe as that much!
Mischa really needs her own reality series. She doesn’t have to act, which anyway has never been her strong point. She just needs to be herself.
You’re SO BEHIND here Ausiello.. Zap2it already reported this and even came up with ideas for replacements. I don’t understand what’s exclusive about this post.

Never planned on watching it anyway.
Just replace like they replaced Julia Duffy w/ Mary Page Keller for the ABC TGIF sitcom ‘Baby Talk’ (based on the Look Who’s Talking movies). Look how well that turned out? Oh, wait……
I agree with everyone who says ‘who cares’ and/or ‘I wasn’t going to watch anyway.’ From what I understand, critics HATE this show. I haven’t read or heard one good thing about it.
Mischa – very very good actress.

I guess I’m in the minority here, because I wish nothing but the best for Mischa Barton. I’ve had friends who’ve attempted suicide and struggled with depression, and it’s horrible to watch. I wish all of God’s love to Mischa and her family, and I hope that she gets through this rough time and emerges stronger for it.
Hello you comment is so stupid !
You don’t know her you don’t know her problems so please stop the bitching !
One thing is sure : her health is far far more important than a teen soap about models on the CW !!!
And the Body Politic is too good for this network !
Must See!!

I agree with bootsycolumbia, I too have had a friend who tried to commit suicide and now she is struggling with anorexia. And it is truly horrible to see someone you care about go through it. Thats why I don’t wish it on anyone.
I wish people would understand that things like these aren’t jokes.
