Armchair Casting Director: 'Southland'

Categories: News, Southland

NBC’s cop drama is adding two new recurring roles in season 2. They are…

Andre: Good-looking, slick, at times overly aggressive African-American male in his 30s. He’s Lydia’s (Regina King) new partner. Sees her as a rising star. She sees him as a pain in the ass. Series regular potential.

Gil: A native Los Angeleno of Mexican-American heritage, Gil is a NARC Detective on the force. Goes back and forth between aggressive and friendly. He’s in his 30s. Series regular potential.

this show already has enough dudes..its based in LA…this is the one show they could get away with having pretty girls on..yet its full of men…

Does Lydia getting a new partner mean Tom Everett Scott’s character won’t be surviving?

  • Adam

Mikar Pfiffer would be cool. I know I screwed up the spelling lol
Or Jesse Martin (Law & Order)

So I guess that means Russell dies?

  • Alex

How about D.B. Woodside (24, Buffy) for Andre, and Anthony Ruivivar (Third Watch, Traveler) for Gil?

  • vic

Partner? romantic I suppose and not professional …..

  • Ash

Miriam, it’s a cop show. Most of the characters are aggressive. I think the most aggressive character in the first season was the white guy who had to train Ryan from The OC. (Great show, but never bothered to learn their names!)

  • tirade

    Kevin Alejandro for the narc.

  • esther

Michael Pena for Gil. Loved him in Crash.

  • tirade

oops, forgot he’s already on the show!

  • Christy

dang… so I guess ole dude doesn’t make it.

  • Vince

    Andre – Robert Ri’chard

  • GeekGirl13

    Andre: Leonard Roberts

  • Amy

Nooooo please don’t get rid of Tom Everett Scott. He is the main reason I watch.

  • Wendy

Jason George or Idris Elba for Andre
    Benjamin Ciaramello for Gil

  • Wendy

Jason George or Idris Elba for Andre
    Benjamin Ciaramello for Gil

  • jenn

Yeah, does that mean no more Tom Everett Scott?

  • harry

    cooool!!!

  • Elva

The role of Gil just screams for Chris Gorham

  • Adam

oh, what about Jimmy Smits!!! He was awesome on Dexter last season.

Andre should definitely be the guy who was on sister, sister who was the security guard. He was also Joan’s boyfriend on Girlfriends. He’s got a police officer build and a possible annoyance factor that would work well with Regina King

  • Bruce

    Andre – Henry Simmons
    Gil – Stephen Martines

  • Howard

“how come “ethnic” characters are always “aggressive?”"
well it’s a cop show, so most of the characters should be somewhat aggressive.
anyway i nominate Jamie Hector for Andre, after they wasted his talent on Heroes last year he deserves better.

  • Don J

Andre: Brian White (was on Moonlight and 12 Rounds) I think he’s a good looking guy who fits that description perfectly.

  • Jenna

Does this mean Tom Everett Scott is gone!? He’s pretty much my main reason for watching this show. Boo!!!

  • Glen

    Gil should be Gene Gabriel

  • Derek

Anyone that was a regular on “The Wire” will do fine. Erik King (Doakes) from Dexter would be great too. Kevin Alejandro or David Zayes (if he can do double duty) for the other

  • Jenn

For Andre, I think D.B. Woodside would be awesome! Loved him on Buffy and 24.
