Exclusive: 'Old Christine' crushes on Eric McCormack

Eric-Mccormack-Dreyfus_l Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack is going back to his sitcom roots with a recurring gig on The New Adventures of Old Christine, sources confirm to me exclusively. The Emmy winner, whose low-rated TNT dramedy Trust Me was (thankfully) axed after just one season, will play a therapist and potential love interest for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

McCormack will start work on Old Christine after wrapping a guest stint on Law & Order: SVU. As I reported earlier this week, he’ll play a handsome sugar daddy in this season’s second episode.

OMG!!!! I can’t believe is the best news for me today. I love Old Christine and this news will make the next season be better

  • mino

Love Julia Louis Dreyfus. She was so fuuny and hot in Deconstructing Hurry: http://www.actressscene.com/2008/08/julia-louis-dreyfus-in-deconstructing.html

  • graeme

Ooooo! This is cool. I wonder how many episodes he’ll be in. Blair Underwood “joined the cast” in season 2 but only appeared in about 5 episodes over the course of the season.

  • Lorie

    Excellent!

  • trazey

that’ll be great, i love him and love julia (no one does ‘awkward’ better than her!) so it can’t go wrong! yay!

  • renee

well i’m sad i loved Trust Me, and don’t watch Old Christine because it’s just old and not funny.

  • Tego Livi

For variety, Eric Mc ought to use his other voice (the one he used on Lonesome Dove). It would surprise a lot of people who know him from Will & Grace.

  • jamie

Renee–I liked ‘Trust Me’ too! I keep changing my mind about ‘Christine’–I like Eric and think he’ll do well there. I’ll keep watching.

  • Nick T

Two shows I love coming together. It’s a dream come true!

  • Rrrrrobert

Big, big, big mistake. McCormack is horrible in everything he’s done, including Will & Grace.

  • Reem

He should totally have his own show.. he’s so amazing it sucks that it’s not working out for him..

  • John from Daejeon

His roots are more along drama than comedy, and I thought he was pretty good in his guest shot on “Neon Rider” and the baddy in “Lonesome Dove: The Series/The Outlaw Years”–way before his time on NBC.

Hopefully Eric will catch my interest in watching again next season????

  • Leila

I love Old Christine, although I haven’t watched anything McCormack’s been in Will & Grace, so this’ll be interesting.

  • Lynn

Old Christine has become my favorite sitcom- I’ll watch her Julia, Wanda and gang booze it up anytime!
Will Wanda Sykes still be on the show when she has her own talk show?????

  • Suenue

This show is adorable. The cast is great, and the guest stars always shine, and I’m sure McCormick will too. I wonder if Blair Underwood will ever come back?

  • Deb

I really liked Trust Me. I don’t know why you were so against it. As for Eric, I hope he brings some humor to that show.

Am I the only one who gets an icky factor from therapists date their patients story lines? I know it’s comedy, but the premise is so very wrong and gross. Just me? Okay, I’ll slink away quietly.

  • Lily

Okay, maybe he won’t be HER therapist. Hopefully-

  • april-ann

I’m just not a fan of his. IMO he was the only cast member of the four on Will and Grace who was not talented and therefore not believable in the role. Perhaps it was just the way he played the character: an annoying, whiny complainer. The others were brilliant.

  • Tego Livi

BTW, it says he’ll play A therapist, not necessarily Christine’s therapist.

  • Dave

I’m really excited about this – while I’m not a HUGE fan of Eric, he does have a very loyal following. I assume that fans of his that don’t watch the show will tune in to see his performance and may begin to watch the show after he leaves.
Last season’s episode with Megan Mullally guest starring was the highest rated episode of the season – hopefully Eric will be able to pull in those high numbers too!

  • Dave

Even though I’m not a HUGE fan of Eric, I’m excited about his guest appearances. I think his appearances will do a world of good for Old Christine’s ratings and maybe fans of Eric’s will see the show for the first time because of him and become fans.
Megan Mullally’s appearance last season scored the highest ratings for that season; hopefully Eric can do the same!

I am more excited to see Eric back on stage next summer. He is doing David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross at The Arts Club in Vancouver next year. His old theatre stomping ground. Yay!So exciting! XO

I can see Old Christine’s numbers possibly being up at first; but it won’t be because of Eric. He cannot act. It would be more because of these three things — 1. People are tired of lame summer reruns. 2. There is a lack of quality sitcoms on the air. 3. People are starving for something other than lame reality shows. Eric would not boost ratings on his own like Megan Mullally would. On Will and Grace, the characters of Karen and Jack were wildly over the top, and yet still way more believable than the character of Will as played by the untalented Eric.

  • Jenny

I can’t understand someone like april-ann who would come on here just to say “Eric won’t raise ratings, he can’t act.” Well, I watched the show just because of Eric. I think he’s very talented. April-Ann, you should stop taking so many nasty pills. You overdosed on nasty.
