Multiple sources are now confirming that the legen…dary How I Met Your Mother cad has formally signed on to emcee the 61st annual ceremony, which airs Sept. 20 on CBS.
An official announcement is expected early next week.
As pointed out by Variety, which was first to report the NPH negotiations, Emmy producers are under pressure to boost the kudocast’s ratings and critical reception in the wake of last year’s apocalyptic reality quintet train wreck. (The opening “comedy” routine still gives me nightmares.)
Harris, meanwhile, is coming off of a rapturously received Tony hosting stint. He’s also one of CBS’ biggest stars, so the cross-promotional possibilities with HIMYM (which kicks off its new season the night after the Emmys) are endless.
It’s a no-brainer, folks!

Win! I think we should just let him host everything ever, he did a great job at the Tonys and I’m sure he’ll make the Emmys bearable, especially when they always get the nominations so wrong every year.

Emmies, schmemmies, when do we get the announcment that NPH is hosting Oscars?
I like to watch the Emmys, anyway (although some years I enjoy it more than others) but NPH as host definitely means that I’m there. Of course, the whole time that I’m watching, I’ll be fretting over the fact that Paulina isn’t. I’ll have to soldier on somehow.

Several times actually and just last year all the hosts were nominated for the Reality Show Host Category.
yea this is awesome! i agree with andy g that neil should host every awards show this year! nph was a great host at the tony’s and i know he’ll make the emmy’s amazing! i hope he sings again! loved his performance at the tony’s, but it got cutoff on my dvr. hopefully it’s online somewhere! nph= perfect host for the emmy’s!! can’t wait! hoping he’ll host the oscars too!

hey nite tales airs augs 7 @ 11pm on channel tbs/wgn its a folllow up from nite tales the movie which is out on dvd now but the series will have a lot of celeb on different eps. like the singer ray j he will appear so dont miss out

Neil Patrick Harris is a better host than Ryan Seacrest could EVER be. Not that I’m saying he should host American Idol. No…that’s right at Seacrest’s level.
