The actress-designer-pop chanteuse will play Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU in search of a traditional college experience. She ends up rooming with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) so it’s safe to say she’ll be majoring in Drama!
Duff will debut in this season’s fourth episode, slated to air Oct. 5.
Gossip producers spotted an opening in Duff’s schedule after NBC passed on her comedy pilot Barely Legal.

Hilary is definitely still developing as an actress. So it’ll be good to see her in something different.
She was surprisingly good on SVU last year, and this is a big name for the Teen-Drama. Great casting.

I like the idea of the character, I just don’t like Hilary Duff…wish they’d gone w/ someone else (though she’s a “name” so I understand why they cast her).
This is a bit disappointing, I just can’t see her joining such a down-to-earth cast. I am an avid watcher and am hoping to God Hilary Duff doesn’t screw this up.

I had a feeling that Hilary Duff would be coming back to television soon. For some reason, I knew that she would be coming to the CW if she did. The first show I thought of was One Tree Hill and then I actually thought she would fit in better on Gossip Girl. It’s like I’m psychic or on the same wavelength as the casting directors. Anyway, if Chuck and Blair are still together, Gossip Girl will be good anyway.

I don’t like the casting of Hillary Duff. She is a little too innocent looking for any of the juicy roles GG can offer. I don’t care if she is hot or not, I just don’t think she’s got the backbone needed to be in the show. I think it is like the girl that plays Georgina… not quite the right person for that job either.

I don’t think that Hillary Duff has the right personality for any role in GG unless she plays an out of towner (from the Mid West or something) that gets teased by all the NYU local hipsters.
