'Gossip Girl' scoop: Joanna Garcia is Nate's new GF!

Categories: Gossip Girl, News

Joanna-garcia-crawford_l And you thought Nate Archibald was privileged before.

Sources confirm that Joanna Garcia, star of The CW’s axed-too-soon Privileged, has booked a four-episode arc on Gossip Girl as a love interest for Chace Crawford’s affluent alter ego.

Garcia will play Bree Buckley, an irreverent, slightly evil Miss America-type who hails from a conservative Southern family. She’ll first appear in the Sept. 14 season premiere.

Props to The CW for knowing a good thing when they see it!

    OMG! I LOVE her!

  • Briana

I’ve been missing her! So excited now!

  • Tina

I knew she’d either turn up on GG or OTH! I bet the girl who played Sage is gonna turn up on 90210.

  • GingerCat

Finally a bit of good news today!

  • Dominique

Oh seriously? GG will continue with Nate as the manwhore of the show? I was so happy that they left the season finale as a possible return to the V/N relationship, but I guess I get screwed over once again.

  • DryedMangoez

Yup, Joanna Garcia is awesome. Great to hear about her getting the guest role.

  • Susan

Wait someone actually likes N//V? Ew. GAH. I hope this is finally the end of that miserable relationship. PLEASE PLEASE!
Now all Jenny needs is a hot love interest/storyline to make me happy!

  • Keri

Oh, so Joanna Garcia is going slumming. She’s way better than Gossip Girl. CW should have realized that before they cancelled her show.

  • Carol

Hopefully she’ll be in the show for more than just four episodes. Nate needs a long lasting relatioship for once. Four episodes is not enough, all his relationships are four episodes long that’s why he’s the manwhore in GG :)

  • mick

Yes that’s good news. This chick is real talented.

  • Clara

Joanna could do so much better!

  • Carol

I hope she’ll be for more than four episodes. Nates needs a long lasting relationship for once. He can’t keep up this 2-4 episodes relationships going on.
I’m glad he won’t be with Vanessa anymore, at least I hope he won’t. After what he did to her it would reflect too bad on her to take him back that easily. Glad that they went to Europe just as friends (with benefits I’m sure, after all his Nate!).

  • William

Crap. Now The CW gave me a reason to tune into “Gossip Girl”! What has this world come to???

  • wendyk

YAY!!!! Loved Privileged, LOVE Gossip Girl and LOVE Joanna Garcia. And you people quit trashing GG as crap. It truly has some of the best heartbreaking scenes on TV between Chuck & Blair.

  • Adam

Good for the network to keep the actor, but not big scoop here

seriously, i wonder how many of the people bashing gossip girl have ever watched it? i dismissed at first too and boy was i wrong, it’s witty and clever and fun to watch!

I had the pleasure of meeting Garcia backstage when she was waiting to appear on a “Red Eye” episode. I was there with talent from the network I was working for at the time. Garcia showed up unescorted. She was doing a promo tour for the short-lived series “Welcome to the Captain.” Not a great show but she was really wonderful in it. When I complimented her performance, her reaction was so warm and genuinely appreciative that it actually caught me off guard. We spent about a half hour chatting, joking and talking about how she got stuck doing the bulk of the publicity tour for a show everyone knew would not survive. Still, she remained positive and upbeat. Her “apology” for “Reba” made me laugh out loud. She was just a delight and I am genuinely happy she is getting a plum role on “Gossip Girl.” I’m not a fan of the show but I hope this gig gives Garcia the big career leap she so richly deserves.

  • Mel

she deserves a show. it was privileged which i love so much. i think she is talented. still hoping for the show to come back though.

  • kris

That’s great. I’m glad her and Robert Buckley (who got a role on One Tree Hill) are getting jobs after the CW unceremoniously canceled the awesomeness that was Privileged. Just when it was getting really good, too! But I guess this is better than no Joanna and Robert.

  • J

Yay! I might actually tune in!!!

  • rob

I saw one episode of Privileged and Joanna Garcia was extremly lame and a horrible actor. this is a step down for Gossip Girl…

  • Susan

Sorry Carol. She’s only one for 4 episodes.

  • Gusar

    Oh please, god, no!!
Joanna is waaaaaay to good to be on some crappy CW show (note: Privileged wasn’t crappy). She *so* needs a better gig. A lead role again. But something _not_ on the CW. CW can’t be trusted with a good show (Privileged, Reaper, Body Politic, even Reba, Joanna’s previous show), they’re too busy churning out crappy shows about bratty rich kids who think they have problems.

  • Gusar

@whale sweater: I tried watching GG. With all the hype (though, most of it is artificially created) I thought maybe there’s something about it. I could watch two episodes. But during the third one my stomach couldn’t handle it anymore, so that was that.

  • Dominique

    >> “Wait someone actually likes N//V? Ew. GAH” <<
Yep, I love them, I love her, I love him and I love the two of them together as a couple, so this news isn't good for me at all.

  • acp

anyone is better than Nate and Vanessa. BORING

  • Joe

I know there are fans out there, but really… the show’s ratings are truly the sign of a failed show, but thanks to this kind of hype, it just hangs around. Goes to show how important advertisers think impressionable young adults are since the viewers are more likely to fall for the advertisers’ pitches.

  • Frank Anderson

I just want everyone reading this to know that Gossip Girl is on the CW which is owned by Time Warner… parent company of Entertainment Weekly.
That explains why EW mentions this show a couple of times in every issues and why my faith in EWs credibility is falling with every issue.
I am not saying Gossip Girl is bad either- but as a long time reader of EW, their push for this show is unheard of. I don’t remember them ever having a show mentioned as consistently as this one.
I guess hard times call for desperate measures.

  • becky

Gossip Girl is a lot better show then that sorry excuss of a remake called 90210

  • Elle

I would have prefered a second season of Privileged! But I guess having the stars on my other fave shows slightly makes up for it.Can’t wait to see her character and Robert Buckleys on OTH.
