T.R. Knight confirms 'Grey's Anatomy' exit: 'It was not an easy decision'

Categories: Grey's Anatomy, News

TR-Knight_l Now it’s really official.

T.R. Knight has released a statement confirming what I first reported on Wednesday: His Grey’s Anatomy days are over.

“Leaving Grey’s Anatomy was not an easy decision for me to make. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play this character and will miss my fellow cast and crew very much. I continue to wish them the very best, and wholeheartedly thank all of the fans who have supported me and the show with such passion and enthusiasm.”

Meanwhile, Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes just followed with her own statement…

“I think I speak for the entire Grey’s Anatomy family when I say we wish T.R. Knight the best in his future endeavors. He is an incredibly talented actor and a person whose strength of character is admired by all of us.”

The official confirmation comes just hours after word leaked that Knight’s co-star and real-life BFF Katherine Heigl will be sticking around next season.

As I reported on Wednesday, Knight is currently in talks to headline a Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor.

Thoughts? Relieved to be putting all this past us? Does Heigl’s return cushion the blow of Knight’s departure? Sound off below!

If T.R. Knight is out of work who’s going to support his 12 year old boyfriend?

  • A

they must have the same publicist

I love how Ausiello says “when I first reported Wednesday”, when it was really first reported a month ago.

wow ’strength of character’ doesn’t signal her disdain for him at all…

  • Chifu

Oh lordy! I now fear for shonda’s life from all those gizzie fans.

  • Corinne

@ Adam, let’s face it, everyone has known for much more than a month.

  • Adam

@Corrine, true, but it was Reported way before Ausiello brought it up this week in his “Scoop”.
By the way, I love how Heigl’s story is buried in the headlines when it’s another site that broke the story.

I’d rather they have killed off Izzie and saved George. I’m so sick of Heigl’s character. The only reason I watched last season was because of Kevin McKidd’s character, Ian Hunt.

  • Jess

I’m glad this whole “will they go or will they stay?” unnecessary drama is over with. Wish him all the best. :)

  • Lianne

As long as Katherine is there I am happy :)

  • MissFixIt

I am really tired of Izzie’s character… I hope they make her less annoying next season if indeed she’s coming back… It’s too bad that George is leaving but he hasn’t had any important part in forever, you kinda forget him already…

  • Sez

I’ll be sad to see George gone as a character. It was much easier to relate to him because he seemed more “real” than the more extreme characters of Meredith, Christina, and Izzie. That said, I think that T.R. could and should do better than what Shonda gave him this season.

Shonda rhimes is a fake crack pot big fat liar.

  • DennisD

Who cares! They jumped the shark when they let Brooke Smith go.

  • Kendra

He’s just leaving like that? Not even gonna be in the premiere to complete the elevator scene? I hope they at least filmed the completion of it when they filmed the finale. Now can Izzie die too? She’s not that interesting without George. The show isn’t that interesting without George.
