'True Blood' ratings: Fangtastic!

Categories: News, True Blood

True_blood_l The ratings for True Blood’s second season premiere on Sunday are in — and they don’t suck.

According to HBO, the bloody good episode averaged 3.7 million viewers, making it the pay cabler’s most watched original program since the series finale of The Sopranos two years ago. What’s more, the opener was up a staggering 157 percent over the season 1 premiere, and 51 percent over last November’s season finale.

Those are numbers you can really sink your teeth into, right?

Sick of all my vampire puns? Bite me.

I’m so impressed by the increase between the series premiere and now. And it deserves it too. Amazing show, one of the best of TV Today.

Nice job, show! I’m particularly impressed with the huge increase from the season 1 finale to the season 2 premiere. Looks like the buzz between seasons paid off!

If you guys love True Blood go to Kristin’s poll over on Eonline and vote so it doesn’t lose to Supernatural! http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b128849_tater_tops_2009_whats_best_genre_show.html

A great first episode with a bonus of a short peak of Anna Paquins’ great body!

  • Chele Belle

Great episode with the bonus being seeing Eric in a dye cape with highlighting foil on his hair…before devouring a redneck.

  • Jessica

I could never get sick of vamp puns :D

  • Heather

This is great. I do not think that this show gets enough credit, and it is amazing. Great acting, great plots, great chemistry, great sex, and hot guys. Plus all the blood you could want.

  • Antonio

    Sookie Sookie Sookieeey!!!!

I am very happy with this news! I bought the Season One DVD set to see what all the buzz was about. I loved it! I love Sookie, Bill, Tara, Sam and everyone else in Bon Temps.
Anyone else really, really like Sam (not necessarily with Sookie, but just in general)?
I don’t get HBO but look forward to Season 2 on DVD (which I know is a long time from now). In the meantime, it’s fun to read the re-caps.

  • Melanie

Hopefully this will mean many more seasons to come! With 9 books in the series so far, there’s plenty of material to cover!

Ahh True Blood. I discovered the show about a month ago and I devoured it. I finished watching season 1 in two days, and Season 2 has been great so far.

  • uhj

HBO was free last weekend in many places (are those viewers counted?). The show is the hottest on TV: http://www.actressscene.com/search/label/Anna%20Paquin

I was hoping for good numbers, it’s a good show with a diverse cast. Something you can’t find on regular tv anymore! Now, if HBO could find some new writers for Entourage…

  • Bill

Word of mouth is powerful stuff! This guarantees a season renewal, then. I was worried after year one weren’t stellar. I wish there was more to watch in the summer… this and SYTYCD are about it.

  • Justin

    Awesome show!

  • marlowe32

We just like watching and imitating Bill saying…Sssookie !! Reminds me of an old Steppenwolf song.

  • chuck

I enjoy the show. Is it as good as Showtimes Dexter? NO, but it still proves that viewers are looking for alternative to network progreamming.
It has become a big cult hit as season one DVD sales were huge.

Well, the ratings should have been decent. I got the premiere for free thanks to a free preview. LOL

  • andrew

Great show hope the numbers stay.

  • ShutUpRob

Anna Paquin, TV’s newest sex symbol isn’t just fangtastic — she’s an Oscar winner. Nudity and credibility[1] are a potent combination. Rrrowr!

Vampire puns never get old, Aus. They’re like spam. (That’s the processed meat favourite…not the “marry a millionaire” ew comments section plague. They are old. Very very old.)

    This is an AWESOME performance:

I know!! its impossible not to say tssssoookie everytime bill says it haha it should be a drinking game

  • Kyle

Well, they hooked me in by putting Season 1 on OnDemand..heard from many peeps it was a good show, and I had to agree…good gory summer fun…so glad I can watch it ‘live’ now. can’t wait to see this season play out

  • nacho mama

My hubby wants another dog so we can name it Sssooookie! I’m so glad we get this show in my NECK of the woods. I’m a sucker for vampires. I feel just half-alive when the show isn’t on. When it is on, I feel so drained the next morning from having been up all night watching the rebroadcasts. Why, I could just sleep all day. The scripts really have bite. Okay–I’m done. Camp Bill but Sam sure did get cuter as I watched reruns. Thank goodness Nelsan Ellis made it. Oh, BTW, Nathan Barr has chosen fangtastic music. Okay,NOW I’m done.

  • nacho mama

Hey, want to meet a hot rich vampire? I know just the place. http://www.bontempfangsingles.com
They take a bite out of you while you take a bite out of their wallets.

  • KR

I think there needs to be a true blood drinking game. Anytime someone says Sookie, you take a shot. Anytime someone says Sookie in a way that makes you or anyone you are watching the show with laugh out loud, you have to finish your drink.

  • Still Addicted

Glad to see the show gathering more and more viewers. Everyone who watches seems to get hooked instantly, whether it be Male or Female

  • Still Addicted

The ONLY must watch show on HBO right now. Cant wait for next week
