This just in: 'My Name is Earl' will NOT live on

Categories: My Name is Earl, News

My-name-is-earl_l Talk about lousy karma.

Despite reports that TBS was on the verge of rescuing My Name is Earl from NBC’s scrap heap, a spokesperson for Twentieth Century Fox Television confirms that the Emmy-winning comedy is officially dead.

In a statement, the studio rep said, “While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, [series creator] Greg [Garcia] included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue. We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name is Earl for their incredible work.”

Post your eulogies in the comments.

Can you at the very least dig up who would have been Earl’s dad? I will miss the show. I hope someone picks up Nadine though; she is so funny!

  • Unindicted Co-Conspirator

    Good riddance!
Earl ran out of stories a long time ago.
Sadly & even worse, it had become a sinecure for talentless fellow members of Jason Lee’s cult!

  • Stefan

whatever – the show was boring

  • ehh

“Earl” wasn’t that great of a show.

    • Eddie

Really? So why did you watch it? And if you didn’t watch it you have nothing to say. So pretty much, your comment is lame and is probably coming from one of those responsible for having it cancelled in order to “save face”. Ridiculous. My Name Is Earl was innovative and original, very funny and had several years left.

  • Jason

    DAMMIT!!!!!!!!

  • Stephen

    Well, that kinda blows.

  • ehh

“Earl” wasn’t that great of show.

“Earl” wasn’t that great of show.

  • estee

well that really sucks since they ended the season with a “to be continued…” i hate when they do that to shows!

I am so f***ing pissed. This was one of my favorite comedies on TV. I loved Thursday nights on NBC because of Earl, The Office and 30 Rock. My Name is Earl was such a great show and I can’t believe NBC would cancel it. I had high hopes for another network to pick it up, but I guess it’s not to be. I am really going to miss these characters, especially Joy (Jaime Presley). She’s hilarious!
I think the 2008-2009 TV season, for me, will go down as the most disappointing in terms of wrongful cancellations. Earl, Pushing Daisies, The Unusuals, Samantha Who?, etc…sigh. I’m getting really sick of these networks canceling everything I love.

Earl was such a good show, so was Life. They got rid of two GOOD shows to put shows like Parks and Recreation, Listener, and Philantropist on. The last 2 have dump, meaningless plots. And the 1st is a recycled office. I’m done with NBC besides SNL, Conan, and Fallon.

That stinks. I really liked this show like a lot of other ones that were canceled this year.

  • TrooprThrn

Garrett – Beau Bridges played Earl and Randy’s father in quite a few episodes.

  • Impeach Obama

Now that this vile show is gone, we can concentrate on removing that equally vile One Termer from office.

  • TrooprThrn

Earl was so well done on so many levels, and ut gets the ax. I’m curious to see what kind of junk NBC replaces it with…and when that show fails, they’ll wish they kept Earl on.

  • Jack

Earl officially Jumped the Shark with the tornado episode. It rarely got back to “marking people off my karma list” which is the only thing that really worked in this series. Too bad. It had it’s great moments.

  • Little Mary Sunshine

huh, finally something on TV worth watching and it’s being cancelled. Are the networks being run by government efficiency experts? This sucks!! I want Earl back, let’s pull a golden girls, who do we need to whine to?

  • OhPuleeze

So what, the show was terrible, never understood what kept it on the air THIS long.

  • Joe

Great just what we need, another slot open for a reality show. Wonderful. I guess my TV is now an official paper weight.

  • cavedog

It never was that funny. I’m surprised it lasted this long.

  • erin

I thought the show was great. I don’t understand, you get rid of great shows and you put my stupid reality shows. what a show about SPEIDI…and those losers…NBC, once again, you have screwed up.

  • Vetinari

NBC or Fox should pay for a 1 hour final episode wrapping things up to be put on the dvd set as a goodwill gesture to fans. I bet they could even get the actors to work for scale for that one thing.

  • joe

i hadn’t watched in years until one day i was off from work and caught a couple of episodes on day, i’ve been hooked ever since this indeed is a sad day !

  • Sam

Only an ignorant neo-con would try to bridge “Earl” with impeaching Obama.
    Dumb*ss.

  • JJ

Um, so what about the cliffhanger of who Earl Jr.’s dad is?? And will Randy and Catalina never figure out they’re in love with each other?

  • Sam

Only an ignorant neo-con would try to bridge “earl” being cancelled to impeaching Obama.
What a moron. No wonder the GOP is so much trouble.

  • BN

“we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series.”
In other words, one of the head actors wasn’t going to get paid enough.

  • Tom

Yay, another original show that can be replaced with an idiotic reality show. God, I hate tv. Idiocracy is coming true, only a lot earlier than 500 years.

    • Eddie

      Then stop watching it moron.

      • jess

why call him a moron. tom is right.

  • RealityTvMustDie

I didn’t find this show particularly entertaining. Oh well. To each, their own.
