The final installment of my Dream Emmy Ballot has arrived, and, not surprisingly, I saved the biggest races for last: best drama and comedy series. Emmy voters, do me a solid and transfer these recommendations onto your official ballots when they go out next week. It may very well be the only thing standing in the way of a ‘Til Death sweep come nominations day July 16. Oh, and if you missed any of my picks in the acting categories, click here to view the entire ballot.
Best Drama
Big Love (HBO): TV’s most addictive, entertaining, and unpredictable family drama.
Breaking Bad (AMC): You’ve heard of the sophomore-season slump? This is its opposite.
Friday Night Lights (DirecTV/NBC): They shot, they scored their best season since the first. Touchdown!
Mad Men (AMC): I don’t remember anything that happened, but I know it looked and sounded brilliant.
Rescue Me (FX): Bounced back from last season’s creative rut by once again stirring the embers of 9/11.
The Shield (FX): One of the most satisfying (and gut-wrenching) TV swan songs ever.
Best Comedy
30 Rock (NBC): Shaky start, but by the end, we were shaking ourselves — with laughter.
The Big Bang Theory (CBS): I still don’t know what the hell string theory is. But I’m laughing, anyway!
Chuck (NBC): You saved the show. Great. Now how’s about saving it from an Emmy snub?
How I Met Your Mother (CBS): The fact that it’s never been nominated is — wait for it — unacceptable.
The Office (NBC): Splitting the office in two was a swell idea. Bringing Amy Ryan back? Even sweller.
Pushing Daisies (ABC): Good idea, good writing, good directing, good acting, good… bye. [Sigh]

The Emmy goes to… CHUCK!
don’t forget to remind everyone to watch Pushing Daisies tomorrow night!
Now where is ‘Lost’ in that Drama list?
No BSG anywhere? Not even a little love for Mary McDonnell? The Ausholes are ausraged!
No LOST? Really? No LOST??
How about Lost and BSG for best drama? Glaring omissions, if you ask me.
I really hope both The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother get nods. Enough of 2 1/2 Men already!
Pushing Daisies is a long shot but I hope they could pull a surprise and be nominated as well
Inclusion of Chuck? Good
Exclusion of Dexter? Bad
FNL all the way though.
No Scrubs?!?! What?!
Where is BONES???????
You failed me Ausiello. No Battlestar Galactica, anywhere. Talk about a show that challenged the norm of television. Every season they’ve delivered some of the best television out there. Give it some credit!!!!
i feel like you’re just trying to be different this year with your noms!!!! Do you really feel that Lost and BSG would be cliche Aus? Because their NOT!
Yeah! “Friday Night Lights”!
I also really REALLY liked ‘Life on MARS’! :’^(
Agree with all 6 Comedy selections, but would add LOST to Drama. (And as long as we’re talking long-shots – Supernatural)
Where is Dexter? That has to be the best show on television!
I’d love it if The Big Bang Theory won an Emmy.
Where’s House? WTF Ausiello!
No BSG????!!!!!
I am shocked. Finally, we had a great… GREAT SciFi drama again. probably the best one ever if you ask me… and no recognition? Ausiello, I am shocked!
How great would it be if Pushing Daisies won. Take that ABC!!! *sigh* it will never happen though.
Best drama: Lost. Best comedy: The Office.

What about House?! Where is House?! Seriously? Do you even watch the show…you don’t nominate it in your list as BEST DRAMA and neither Lisa Edelstein as best supporting actress/lead actress in Drama series. =S Seriously?!
The Emmy goes to Breaking Bad (AMC)
Runner Up is Friday Night Lights (DirecTV/NBC)
I adore all the comedy picks but the Emmy should go to Chuck (NBC).
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m so happy House is not on the list. Hugh Laurie should win,House should never be nominated again,it’s no longer the show I feel in love with, now it’s just a soap-opera.Once the only thing people talk about is who sleeps with who … it’s clear.
BSG should be nominated,it was a great SCI-FI drama,a lot of good things to learn from it and it should get some recognition.
BEST DRAMA – SOUTHLAND
BEST COMEDY – UGLY BETTY
BEST TEENAGE DRAMA – GOSSIP GIRL
(this needs to be a catogory of its own)
Chuck all the way baby!!!!
Anyone who seriously thinks LOST is a better show than MAD MEN should have their television privileges revoked.
Mad Men deserves a shelf full of awards for costumes, lighting, sound and all that period detail. I’m not really sure it deserves for overall series though because hardly anything ever happens.
I’d be for Psych as the best Comedy. You nominate James Roday in the thread before but you forget Psych as a show here -.-. But i agree with Pushing Daisies
