Dream Emmy Ballot part 3: Best Lead Actor and Actress (comedy)

Categories: Dream Emmy Ballot

Bestleadcomedy_l
Hey, Emmy voters, tired of me yet? No? Good, because we still have six more categories to get through, including the two below — lead actor and actress in a comedy. (My suggestions for lead actor and actress in a drama will be posted later this evening, followed by outstanding comedy series and drama series tomorrow.) To recap: Use this list of recommendations as your guide when the balloting process gets underway next week. I’ll be checking to see how closely you paid attention when the nods come out on July 16.

Best Lead Actor (Comedy)
•    Alec Baldwin (30 Rock): Ironically, he soared by bringing his loopy character down to earth.
•    Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week): The (super-funny) show didn’t last. But let’s keep its Everyman star as a souvenir.
•    Steve Carell (The Office): With the help of Amy Ryan’s Holly, he gave Michael some heart and depth.
•    Zachary Levi (Chuck): Who else shifts as easily between comedy, drama, and kung fu? That’s right, no one.
•    Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory): Revenge of the nerd!
•    James Roday (Psych): My sixth sense says this is the underrated comic’s year.

Best Lead Actress (Comedy)
•    Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) Made trying to be good look good.
•    Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory): Only a real dork would write her off as just another pretty face.
•    America Ferrera (Ugly Betty): Deserves major props for hiding the series’ signs of wear. Without a poncho, even!
•    Tina Fey (30 Rock): I want her to go to there. Again.
•    Joanna Garcia (Privileged): If Emmy didn’t shun The CW, it’d admit it loved Garcia.
•    Eva Longoria-Parker (Desperate Housewives): The most unsung member
of the ensemble is also its funniest. Let’s give her some love.

Jim Parsons definitely deserves the win!!!! He has made Sheldon a truly memorable character.

  • Meg

Love the James Roday and Joanna Garcia picks!

  • ruth

glad to see Jim Parson on your list. He is so funny. great actor. plays a great nerd.

  • secondbecky

I think you meant that you want Tina Fey to GO TO there.

  • Jordan

I’m honestly going to be really upset if the Emmys don’t show Zachary some love this year. The things he did with Chuck this season were just amazing, he’s so incredibly talented and they’re a little short sighted to ignore that. I mean, come on, we saw a whole new side to Chuck in vs the Dream Job and it was amazing to see him shift from bad ass spy to insecure and hurt son and back again.

  • Alyson

Jim Parsons for the win! Always rooting for Steve Carell, too.
Also loved Joanna Garcia, but I doubt she’ll get any love.

  • Josh(ua)

Your quote on Tina should say, “I want her to go TO there.” C’mon Ausiello!

  • Amanda

    Christina Applegate!!!
    Aw Sam Who?…
    Shame on you, ABC!

  • Megan

It’s funny, when Desperate Housewives first started, I thought Eva Longoria was by far the weakest link. Then the show started to suck, and suddenly she was the one who brought the funny. While I still and always will just watch this show because ‘it’s on’ ELP definitely deserves props. As you said, unsung hereo of the cast.
I could & would nominate the whole cast of Samantha Who? The women on the show are all fantastic. And of course Tina Fey & Alec Baldwin goes without saying. Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon is one of the best female comedy characters, perhaps ever.

  • Melissa

James Roday all the way! How corny.
I will disagree with America Ferrara. I think Betty is the least funny of the show, and quite frankly, most annoying. I tune in for every other character besides Betty.

  • Emma

Come on! Why no Zach Braff? John C McGinley? Anyone from Scrubs?

  • Liz

Love that Zach Levi made the cut! I would also like to see the lead guy in “Party down” up there but i know that probably isn’t possible, huh? Ken marino is his name right? Loved him on Reaper and Veronica Mars.

  • Amy

LOVE that you mentioned James Roday. Psych is totally underrated.

  • house addict

I’m still a little pissed at you for snubbing Lisa Edelstein, but I’ve got to admit: I like your comedy choices.

  • Adam

I think we’ll see a 30 Rock sweep this year with Fey and Baldwin.

  • Mike C.

No Yvonne Strahovski love? Shame on you Michael!

  • laura

BBT, You nailed this one aus!!

However! Not happy about your drama choices! :P

  • kmc

Joanna Garcia and Christina Applegate have been two of my favorite actresses this year and both of their shows got cancelled, cumon emmy show the cw and abc how idiotic they are and let these women be nominated!

  • Tiffany

If you’re right on James Roday, I would love you. For him to just get nominated-just that little bit of recognition-would be amazing, not to mention the excitement that would be involved if he were to ever win! He has earned it! They’ve brought a lot more depth to Shawn this past season, and Roday seamlessly blended the two sides of his character into one, more fully-fleshed, Shawn Spencer.

  • Sanna

I love Kaley Cuoco, but Tina Fey will win take this. And Alec Baldwin

  • Gracie

Great call on James Roday! Glad to see you agree with me! Just a nom would be great. And America is great in Ugly Betty, but I would prefer Michael Urie take the trophy for the show this year.

  • graeme

How can you have a list that doesn’t include Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Even Tina Fey admitted last year they all just want to be like JLD.

  • Torrence5

Don’t think your picks have an ice cube chance in hell of coming true. Best Actor Comedy – Jim Parson & Alex Baldwin (probably Steve Carell) the other two — no way. And you really mised the boat on the comedy actress: agree with Christian Applegate (should win) & Tina Fey — your most glaring ommission is Julie Louis Dryfus (Old Christine) by far the funniest on tv. Of course, this is why its your dream list – and only a dream.

  • Lauren

I agree with most except Toni Collette should get a nod for united states of Tara.

  • minderbinder

Nice to see a mention of Psych…but what about a show like Burn Notice? Jeffery Donovan kills on that show, and Bruce Campbell is one of the funniest guys on TV.

  • hanna

Tina and Alec will and SHOULD win… but I’ll have to assume you’re categorizing Gossip Girl as a drama for the blatant omission of one miss Leighton Meester.

  • Andy G.

No Julia Louis-Dreyfuss? Her sitcom is totally underrated and she’s still giving one of the best comedic performances out there.
Snaps for Parsons, Levi, Baldwin, Fey, and Cuoco, though!

  • L

So happy to see Roday getting some love! He really deserves an Emmy for his amazing comedic timing and the energy he brings to Psych. Some of the funniest lines on that show are ones he came up with on the spot and he deserves recognition for his talent.

  • Mel

So with Eva Longoria & America Ferrera, both fantastic this season.

  • Gimplygump ☺

    Actor: Zachari Levi
    …. CHUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Actress (MHO) Allison Hannigan
