'Smallville' scoop: Are they casting Zod?!

Categories: Smallville

It sure sounds like it based on this season 9 casting notice that just fell into my lap:

MASON: Late 20’s early 30’s. He’s a handsome charismatic charmer who savors life. He appreciates good food, loves fast cars and sees beauty in every woman. There isn’t a detail in life that eludes his senses. He is a master of seduction… knowing what everyone wants and needs before they do. But don’t let his magnetism fool you. There’s more than meets the eye. His intelligence can’t be matched. He outmaneuvers everyone in his path. Though he longs to find a home, that vulnerability can be twisted — making him a force to be reckoned with.”

Thoughts?!

sounds a little more like a new lex-type character than anything else…

  • Chevy

It almost kind of sort of sounds like Brainiac…if Brainiac were a womanizer-woman-woman-izer.

  • Mdawg

Ugh, sounds like a smarter version of Lex Luthor

  • Graymalkin

Sounds like Bruce Wayne to me. But that’s not possible, is it? Green Arrow is clearly Smallville’s version of Batman, because they can’t actually use Bats in the show. General Zod, at least in the original Superman movies, was definitely not suave and charming.

OMG.. it wasn’t enough they did this with Doomsday all season? Now they have to do it with Zod as well?
    Come on…
and for Jor-El’s sake.. Fly, already!

  • morgan

It ain’t witwer then….to bad, that boy is hella swxy and would have made a badass zod

  • Nobodey

Ya, I wish. Sounds to me like Bruce Wayne. Other than the home part =(

  • Captain Awesome

It’s like Kal actually. Except really smart apparently. I really hope they use Red K while this character is around. That would be so badass.

  • Allie

    Hmmm…Knowing what people need….
    Some sort of telepath?
    Maybe it’s Manchester Black?

  • Andrew

    awesome….!!

I had heard rumors that the guy who played Davis Bloom/Doomsday would be playing Zod since Doomsday was created from his DNA. So, maybe not, or maybe this is a different character. And no, DC Comics will NOT ALLOW Bruce Wayne to appear on Smallville. The various creators of Smallville have all spoken about that over the years.

  • Becca

In what universe does that sound like Zod? Heck, it doesn’t even sound like the Zod that posessed Lex in Season 6.
Zod is an insane general obsessed with restoring Krypton, he looks down on humans, and is basically a power mad nutball. There is nothing about Zod that screams “he loves the finer things in life!”
I hope to heck this isn’t Zod. SV already spent a season wussifying friggin DOOMSDAY.

  • sysa

Sounds boring. They oughta worry about getting the cast they do have full-time instead of wasting money on one season filler characters and giving them a regular spot.

  • kapricornkitti

PLEASE let it be Lex! I never bought the whole ‘dead’ line.

  • Smallville Geek

Darn! I was hoping all the rumors online about Sam Witwer portraying “Zod” in season 9 were true.

  • Carrie

UGH! NO! Zod is supposed to look just like Sam Witwer. We all saw the photo tests of Sam as Zod.
    BRING BACK SAM!

  • Ryan

Um… Sounds like it could be Rex Mason to me… Metamorpho anyone?

  • Avaela

sounds like they’re recasting Lex which sucks cuz Michael Rosenbaum was the best Lex ever

  • Jenny

All I can say is, he better not be a love interest for Lois.

  • Neena

LOL! Sounds like Ausiello needs a Superman primer. This description doesn’t sound ANYTHING like Zod. At all. Exactly where would he have developed an appreciation for fast cars for crying out loud?

  • Carrie Ann

The descriptions in these casting notices are always so lame. This doesn’t even sound like Zod. Isn’t his entire existence all about recreating his home and destroying the human race?

  • Vanessa

Michael that description sounds nothing like Zod.

  • Akiyama

    People still watch this show?

  • Scott

Sounds like the Eradicator to me.

  • Alex

Sam Witwer is most likely returning as ZOD. He did play him in the final seconds of the awful season finale. This Mason guy is most likely a clone with Lex’s brain inside (they did the same thing in the comic books 15 years ago). Great another crappy worthless character like Tess Mercer to bury Smallville even deeper.

  • N

I like Smallville but this dumb. They need to bring back Michael to play Zod and on top of that he can have hair. By the way did you guys know that George is gone from Grey’s!

  • keving

Bruce Wayne? Just throwing it out there

  • Amber

Gee, this sounds EXACTLY like Lex. As if we already don’t have enough Lex replacements. IE: Tess and Oliver. I mean, will half the cast be Lex??? I just don’t see how I can get into Smallville anymore. Even if this was the best character ever written, what’s the point? They’ll retcon and turn him into the “opposite” of everything else they built for his character by the end. WHATEVER. Bring Sam Witwer back and redeem Davis. He was the best part of season 8. Is this guy supposed to replace Davis? That just doesn’t work for me. I just don’t see how this show can be redeemed after Failsday.

  • Amber

Oh and one more thing. What is the point of getting rid of two actors that people like on Smallville for what people call budget cuts, but then they replace them with a new actor? Why not just keep one of the actors we already like? These writers astound me. I mean, honestly.

  • TxGowan

Doesn’t sound anything like Zod. Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t absolutely love Terrence Stamp showing up as Zod again? He does the voice. BOW BEFORE ZOD.
