MAJOR spoiler alert: 'Melrose' twist revealed!

Categories: Melrose Place

Melroseplacefight_lMelrose Place is back to its old dirty tricks. The CW’s forthcoming reboot of the classic ’90s sudser will launch this fall with the kind of bombshell revelation that would make Kimberly Shaw’s legendary scar bust open. Unfortunately, unlike that iconic cliffhanger, there ain’t a chance in hell this twist will remain unspoiled before it airs in September. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing leaks in the next week or so. Or today. Or right now after the jump. (Yes, that was your warning. Seriously, this is a gigantic spoiler, so head for the exit if you don’t want to know the bombshell at the center of Melrose 2.0.)

The Melrose pilot — snippets of which were unveiled to advertisers at The CW’s upfront presentation this morning — has been shrouded in the kind of
secrecy more typical of an episode of Lost than a trashy primetime soap. “The pilot script isn’t being released to anyone — not
even to writers who are meeting on the show,” an industry insider
recently whispered. “There’s apparently some twist involving Sydney
that they’re trying to keep under wraps.”

It’s under wraps no more: Someone murdered Sydney! Again!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the dead body found floating
face down in Melrose’s trademark pool in the opening minutes belongs to none other than Laura Leighton’s bitchtastic
ex-stripper. I’m told her death will set in motion a season-long murder
mystery that finds nearly all of the show’s principal characters –
particularly Syd’s ex, Michael (Thomas Calabro) — a possible suspect.

I know what you’re probably thinking: They brought Sydney back to life
only to kill her off in the first 10 minutes?! Sorta. Yes, she
dies (for real) right out of the gate, but Leighton will be sticking
around. An insider confirms that Sydney will be seen via flashback in
multiple episodes. Said flashbacks will explain where’s she’s been and
what really happened after she became road kill more than a decade ago.

I know what you’re also probably thinking: Is this the story Heather
Locker was pitched and ultimately turned down? Yes, that was supposed
to be Amanda Woodward’s bloodied corpse floating in the pool. But when Locklear nixed the offer, producers approached Leighton. (Mystery solved:
Locklear killed Sydney!)

Thoughts on the latest bomb dropped in TV’s most famous courtyard? Does
this make you more or less excited to see Melrose 2.0? And are you
relieved Locklear turned her back on the gig since this means Amanda will live to raise hell another day? Sound off below!

I have to admit, a dead Amanda Woodward would be an amazing way to start a new version of the show, centered around her yet moving on from her at the same time. Bravo.

  • marcee

Who even remembers any of this crap? I can barely remember what happened last week on House and they want me to feel connected to characters I haven’t seen in over 10 years?

  • Ana

This is like The L Word, right?

  • Maia

Crappy plotline, it feels like Desperate Housewives Season 1 all over again, with Mary-Alice’s suicide…
I’m so not watching that crap… I can’t believe they canceled Privileged for this absurd show…

  • Alexis

I wasn’t interested in this at all, but now that it’s a murder mystery I’m definitely gonna tune in.

  • Maura

A dead Sydney coming back from the dead just to die in the very first episode. Yeah, any interest I had, gone. (And it was only a small interest (but it was all coming because I love Laura Leighton).

  • ALEX

    OH NO!!!!!!!

  • OriginalMelroseFan

This is very upsetting. Why would Laura Leighton return only to have her character killed again? She’s really hurting the original Melrose Place fans. Was a paycheck THAT important?

  • A’riel

This lame attempt at a show just reminds me how much I miss the old days of Veronica Mars.

  • Adam
  • Gretchen

If they wanted Amanda dead, why not just a body double in the pool?? No one would know it wasnt Locklear.

  • Briana

This feels like every other show on TV.

  • VLover

Heck, I will probably watch but I liked this better when it was the first season idea behind Veronica Mars.

  • Danny

then at the end of the season, Sydney’s twin sister will be revealed lol whatever, this show is gonna suck so bad. sorry but the original was good but i saw the three clips of this and it did not impress me at all. ashlee simpson can go suck a dick.

  • OtherOriginalMelroseFan

    I sorta LOVE this idea
You cant just have sydney back as the landlord sleeping with 20 yr olds
this is gonna be so cool!

  • daep

    Is anybody still watching this?

I hope the ratings for this are as bad as 90210. The CW needs new direction at the top – bringing back old has-beens isn’t going to get you anywhere fast… and to think of the great shows this network has canceled long before they should have!

  • anonymous

the season plot sounds very veronica mars season 1, which makes me very excited to see what they do with it

  • jms

Now I remember why I stopped watching this show the FIRST time it was on the air: because of stupid plots like this. With so many creative people out there coming up with original and unique show ideas, and so many great shows that have gotten canceled, I just can’t believe this is the kind of crap we’re supposed to get excited about.

  • Elle

    Dear jms:
    Word.
    Love:
    -E.

  • Eddie Ginsburg

I am so sorry that Laura Leighton will have only a limited role on the new series. I loved her character! I was so intrigued to hear that she was going to be brought back, only to die again! What a waste of a wonderful talent.

  • mike

At one time, the WB/CW had intelligent shows like Everwood and Veronica Mars. They Promoted them all wrong and pre-empted them for awful reality shows. Now, it’s come to Melrose and the awful 90210 redo.
After Supernatural bites the dust or jumps the shark, I’m done with the network. Is Dynasty, the Next Generation still in the planning stage?

  • bruno

i try and try (sort of) michael ausiello…and i still just don’t like you….at all…

  • Tee

I saw the clips on another site, it looks terrible.

  • to Gretchen

What’s so difficult to comprehend about the concept of an actress being needed for flashbacks. A body double would help with the pool but not the rest.

  • CeCeO2

so it’s a soapy/crap version of ‘Veronica Mars’?

  • Jason

OK people, we get. Your still pissed about your shows(mainly Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls) being cancelled. But it’s been a few years, don’t you think it’s time to move? You don’t wanna watch the CW, fine, don’t! But stop posting in every damn article about the network or a show on it then!

  • Jason

This show looks stupid, and the CW needs to fire the moron that decided to bring this back, as well as 90210. Both terrible idea’s, and 90210 is flailing in it’s time slot. Best of luck- 90210 will be gone by the end of next season, and MP won’t survive season 1.

  • Cece

It’s like Desperate Housewives, only at Melrose Place.

  • Jack

    Worst script ever!
