According to my watch, it’s time for the second piece of casting on 24’s eighth season!
Chris Diamantopoulos — best known as Debra Messing’s gay BFF on The Starter Wife — has been tapped to play the series regular role of Rob Weiss, the argumentative and tough new Chief of Staff to President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones). He replaces Taylor’s current C.O.S., Ethan Kanin, who snatched his job back in last Monday’s finale after the prez’s psycho daughter, Olivia, was taken into federal custody.
As I previously reported, Day 8’s action will switch from Washington D.C. to New York City and center on an assassination plot against a visiting foreign leader (Slumdog Millionaire’s Anil Kapoor, the new season’s first piece of casting).
Bonus piece of trivia free of charge: Diamantopoulos is married to Ugly Betty’s sublime Becki Newton. On second thought, that little nugget is worth at least $50. Pay up.

Wait, Mike – in the finale, Taylor’s Chief of Staff Ethan (Bob Gunton) took back his letter of resignation when the Prez asked him to. Shouldn’t he be Chief of Staff? What happened to him?
so what happens to Kanin after the season finale?
Guess we’ll find out next season . . . although it isn’t uncommon for Cabinet staff to change over a term (or two? We have no idea what the time jump wil be into Season 8). My theory, though, is that Kanin will be dragged out of retirement for the adventure . . . and The POTUS and FG are gonna be SOOOO divorced.
Ethan won’t be the Chief of Staff anymore because he will be the new First Gentleman.
I thought Kanin was here to stay? I liked him.

kanin gets assassinated first ep. new guy comes in as COS (who is also part of the mysterious 8 or 12) and infiltrates to plot a hit on the UN in NYC…..remember where you heard it first!
So is it possible that FG Colm Feore has divorced and now President Taylor is in a relationship with (now) former Chief of Staff Bob Gunton?
They certainly left open the possibility that Feore’s character was upset enough to get a divorce, since her Presidency cost them both their children.

Can I just say I love the poster who commented and called Cherry Jones “Sarah Paulson’s grandmother of a girlfriend” hahaha!
But I liked Ethan! The way everything ended, sorta open, it felt like the next season would pretty much have to pick up where this one left off. Can’t be too much of a gap. I’m hoping Janice and Chloe end up working together. The flying eye daggers and snarky comments would be worth the price of admission!

Hope this doesn’t mean that Bob Gunton won’t be on 24 next season. He was really great as Ethan (and totally redeemed himself from his nasty warden role in “Shawshank Redemption”!!). Would love to see Ethan develop a “relationship” with the President next season (like Agent Pierce and Martha Logan in season 5!).

I think one of the strongest points of this years 24 was the casting. Annie Wersching, Cherry Jones, Jeffrey Nordling and Bob Gunton are only a few names. I hope Bob Gunton will be back for season 8. But I like this new guy. I remember him from Eli Stone. It will be interesting to see what he can bring to 24.
