Sink your teeth into this exclusive first look at the official new key art for True Blood’s 12-episode second season, which kicks off June 14.

To further whet your appetites, here are the official titles and (somewhat spoilery) loglines for the first three episodes…

June 14: “Nothing But the Blood”
A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old.  Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.

June 21: “Keep This Party Going”
Sookie is forced to cope with Bill’s obligations to Jessica, as well as the romantic inconveniences the teen vampire’s presence creates. At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes a favorable impression on its ambitious leaders, Steve (Michael McMillian) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), though not on his jealous roommate Luke (Wes Brown).  Maryann casts her spell on Merlotte’s patrons, and Sam proves helpless to stop the revelry.

June 28: “Scratches”
When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her.  At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect’s anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises.  After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

Can’t. Bloody. Wait.

Okay, comment sections always seem to devolve into shouting matches whenever it comes to Vampire-oriented TV shows/movies/books (yeah, I’m talking to you, Twilight fans) but, as a guy who’s been reading Charlaine Harris’ books for a few years now, Sookie & Eric is my preference over Sookie & Bore (oops, sorry — Bill).
I love the tangents True Blood is taking; it really fleshes (heh) out the secondary characters, but the Sookie/Bill relationship is so temporary in the novels that I hope they don’t get stuck thinking that this is the way to go in the series.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Bill is great, but he’s nowhere near as dynamic as Eric — or Quinn for that matter.
Ugh — I just crossed that line: a 39-year old man commenting on the love lives of fictional vampire characters.

I think Eric/Sookie fans has to be preparied for that Alan might go down that road in the show. He just recently said that the heart of the show is Bill/Sookie. And apparently they are moving further and further away from the books. Season 2 is said to be very different from book 2

  • Sanna

Also, Alan Ball loves Bill, he is his favorite character

  • Katie

mrgnexus, I’ve been talking about the same thing with friends. Sookie/Eric is really the major romance of the books, and Eric is just such a fascinating character.
I keep hoping the show will pick up on that.

  • Mila

    Can’t wait!!!!

  • Jill

I love that Alan Ball is changing so many things. He’s taking the wonderful world that Charlaine Harris created and using it as the scene for an amazing show. Some things are different, some are relatively the same, but both the book series and the television series are amazing and deserve the praise they receive. Can’t wait for season 2!

  • Meg

Did they really kill off my favorite character? No mention in the first three episodes! Lafayette is the only thing that gets me through Tara’s crappy Scarlett O’Hara accent!

  • Lividity

I agree with Sanna. Bill/Sookie are the focus of TB (at least so far) and AB may continue to run it like that. Personally I hope so, Book Eric did nothing for me.

  • mrgnexus

    Eh.
Again — I like Bill AND I realize that a book is never translated 100% faithfully — but I also like some of the characters that they introduce later on down the line that vie for Sookie’s affections.
If they make Bill her One True Love, the show becomes more like Twilight, which came out well after the first Sookie Stackhouse book and plays in a similar sandbox (no offense to the Twilight fans).
THAT doesn’t interest me — but I’m willing to be surprised.

  • Dee

Can’t wait for this show to come back!!

  • Mogue

I’m glad for the return of the show and I look foward to the stories. I have to agree with Meg though about all the plot development that Lafayette got and how it would be waste to see all the additional subplots taken away by his departure. I’m still on board though. Although Tara Scarlett O’Hara thing is kind of annoying and for god sakes can Sookie stop shopping at Kids for Less for clothes.

  • Sanna

Ooh, I just reread my post and I saw that i a little error. I ment that Eric/Sookie fans has to be prepaired for that Alan might NOT go down that Eric/Sookie road, hehe

  • Lividity

I knew what you meant Sanna ;)

  • erica collins

i luv this show with a passion its a good thing there making a new season me and my mom never miss a show

  • erica collins

luv it shout out 2 laura and erica true bloods biggest fans

  • Taylor

BEST SHOW EVER! I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!!! This show is so hot… where can i find me an Eric?

  • Ace

I think it is interesting to see how the show decides to deviate from the books. They have done a good job so far and have actually made some characters more interesting than their book counterparts (esp Bill).

  • Brian

June 14th cannot come quick enough!!

  • Bryan

    Wicked FUN, can’t wait!!

  • Kay

Hot poster. I cannot wait for the show to return because I need my True Blood fix.

  • Kerri

What a fantastic show. The show does deviate from the books it doesn’t do so in a disappointing way. It stays true enough that I can love both. However, I’m bummed the show stayed true to a particular event described in the synopsis of “Nothing But the Blood”. I was hoping an exception would be made. :(

  • Loco4TB

Cannot wait for Season 2 and how Alan Ball changes things up from the books BUT I do want the Bill-Sookie-Eric romantic triangle. Book Eric may have not done anything for some here but he is a fan favorite of many bookreaders and many of them watch the show.
