It looks like One Tree Hill newlyweds Peyton and Lucas are about to embark on a permanent honeymoon.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton, whose characters tied the knot in last night’s penultimate episode, will not be returning for the show’s seventh season next fall. The CW is expected to formally announce their departures next Thursday at its upfront presentation.
Murray and Burton have been engaged in rather high-profile contract negotiations for the past several months. Ultimately, a deal couldn’t be worked out and both actors will make their final appearances in next Monday’s season finale.
To fill the void next season, a Hill insider tells me that three new characters will be introduced, including an older sister for Haley, a sports agent who reps Nathan, and an actress-diva-model that Brooke hires to be the new face of her clothing line. Additionally, Austin Nichols (Julian) is being promoted to a series regular.

Tree Hill was a story about two brothers, from different sides of the track. We’ve parted from the originality of that idea a long time ago… but now, short one brother? I don’t think Tree Hill lasts much longer without them.
i know omg you dont know how upset i am…the show will be nothing without them just like when they killed marissa out of the OC the show went down hill from there n thats wats gonna happen with OTH..i mean of all people lucas and payton…i dont even feel like watching it ne more
Ok so I am so disappointed in the CW. I’m unhappy with all the changes. I could relate to Lucas and Peytons relationship and they showed true love. Guess I can stop rushing home on Monday nights as well as Fridays. Bye Bye Lucas and Peyton

Losing Lucas is awful; the show is no longer about 2 half brothers. I think the show will die out this season. I know my family doesn’t want to watch it anymore.

It is so sad and terrible that they got rid of peyton and lucas because this is going to be the last season of one tree hill and they started with the series and they should end the series but maybe they will make a guest appearance at the end. They were truly my favorite and the show won’t last without them but then again, this is the last season.
This show is hands down #1! This better not be the last season! I am on the edge of my seat every Mon. Schwan, rocks the TV Industry, he knows what he is doing! Look at 90210, Brandon and Brenda left and look how much longer that show lasted and that was Darren Starr and Aaron Spelling, COME ON! We have a GENIUS, MARK! Amen to that!! Mark Schwann knows what he is doing and the show is frigging awesome right now! That whole storyline with Nathan getting that girl preganant supposedly is keeping me on the edge of my seat every week!!
I have watched from the beginning and it is not the same. To not have Lucus and Peyton with the baby does not work right. There is a whole hole that is missing. If this is the last season hopefully they will be in the end. They were the main reason we watched.

Very true, I love Lucas, he’s what makes everthing come together. I liked Peyton early on but as she got older she became very whiny and boring! Sorry
There will be no show without Peyton and Lucas. They fell in love in the first ep and have always been destined for each other. you cant love Lucas but hate Peyton, they are a pacage deal.

But. Hmm. They were getting KINDA boring. Julian is nice. More Julian is GOOD. GOOOOOOOOO Julian. I’m happy, I’ll manage. 
I could live without them; they’ve had the weakest story this year by far any way.

I am so happy that both CMM and Hilarie are leaving- they are Tree Hill’s worst actors! Glad to see Austin Nichols will be sticking around, I love his character!
That’s terrible! I can’t imagine the show without them. I loved the fast-forward five years, it really worked for the show and made it more interesting, but really? Getting rid of Lucas and Peyton? Two of the major characters for THIS LONG? No WAY! I hate that they couldn’t come to an agreement. I don’t know how the show will be without them.

Please!! I would have to agree with Hannah… Watching OTH is really interesting when it comes to all the drama and confusion that Brooke brings to the table. I would love to see more of Brooke’s mom she is fisty. I am sad to see Lucus go but not Peyton. I liked the couple but so sick of whinny Peyton. It gets old, poor peyton you had too mom’s and a dad that loved you. Get over it I had a father you didn’t want me and a drug addict for a mother who stoled my identity. Thank goodness Peyton is gone.
I agree Brooke is so hard to watch she always has been,awful actress. hey at least dan is still on he was always one of my favorites. This show really made a mistake letting Lucas go…
Just be glad that they are still running the show. No more Peyton and Lucas is better than no more One Tree Hill. Please, I know you know it too.

Even though they are young, have they even HEARD of Shelley Long or David Caruso? I guess not. (David got a second chance at a decent career, but not for many years.)
I always wanted brook & lucas together… never liked peyton.well there goes chad michael murray into the abyss never to be heard from again.
Sad….really sad! I think they should end the show. OTH was always about those couples. i cant image the show without chad and hillary. it wont be the same show. i really hope that chad and hillary will be in some new episodes to give them a real exit. those characters deserve a well written goodbye!
I am not surprised, actually. Don’t know what this will mean for the (successful) future of the show next season – but OTHER shows have gone away from their original premises and lost actors from the ensemble and done ok (while yes, others have not). The news doesn’t make me happy – it’s a wait and see thing for next season though, see what they decide to do ..

I’m glad Chad is leaving, I can’t stand him. I like Hilarie but the Peyton story lines kind of dove me nuts. Glad Austin will be back, I love him and Brooke deserves to happy. I think the show will be fine without them, there are enough other characters that people absolutely love.
im only interested in Brooke anyway .. not sure how I feel about Julian, but this will give Brooke and the other characters more screentime, so I’m okay with it. I am still hoping for cameos tho … Brooke/Peyton friendship is WAY important to let it be forgotten.

I’m only partially saddened by this news…i like peyton and lucas, but it might just be time for them to skeedaddle. but YAY for julian returning as a regular! that made my day.
I wouldn’t blame the writers or show runners for this one guys. Word is Chad Michael Murray didn’t want to come back. He wants to do movies. Hilliary Burton isn’t coming back because they felt that killing off lucas or breaking them up would completely mess up the build up and journey for the two characters. They didn’t want to undermine the arc and happy ending for Peyton and Lucas. Which make sense but it still sucks for Hilliary. She didn’t want to go by all accounts.
Well..knew this was gonna happen. This entire season has been a huge disappointment and I was praying that the CW would change their mind on renewing for a 7th season. But…I’m interested in why Lucas and Peyton will depart Tree Hill with their kid.
