Actor-slash-”Jessie’s Girl” crooner Rick Springfield has signed on to play himself in four episodes of Californication, sources confirm to me exclusively.
As I tweeted earlier this month, producers of the Showtime dramedy put out a casting call looking for “an actor who experienced huge fame in the 80’s to play themselves as a now down-on his-luck-ex-celebrity waiting tables to get by.”
Props to Springfield for having the guts to poke a little fun at himself. And for being down with the “tasteful nudity” and “simulated sex” that I’m told the role requires. (That noise you hear is millions of middle-aged General Hospital fans squealing, “We’re going to see Dr. Drake’s naughty bits!”)

I can’t wait to see the next season of Californication, but… that’s Kathleen Turner, Alicia Witt, Peter Gallagher, and now Rick Springfield guest starring in several episodes each. Is David Duchovny gonna be on the show at all? No offense to all this year’s guest stars, but I would trade them all in to have another season with the wonderful Callum Keith Rennie. And how about a guest spot for Gillian Anderson while we’re at it.
That’s awesome. Rick has always been a good sport about his life and career… just no one knew. But they WILL after this! Can’t wait. Him and Duchovny will have a field day with each other!
Well, I’d be sure to watch if they show him and Duchovny gettin’ it on together!

I’m 20 and I love Rick Springfield! Problem is I don’t have Showtime, so I can’t watch him. He needs to get back to General Hospital so Dr. Noah Drake can meet his granddaughter!
Rick is awesome. I cant wait to see this. I will put showtime back on my tv for this! Its been 25 yrs since weve seen that butt on film(Hard to Hold) and maybe a few full moons(what happen in mexico….) Ill be watching and taping!
