Ask Ausiello about 'House'

Categories: Ask Ausiello, House

House_lWhat better way to celebrate the first original episode of House in two weeks (tonight @ 8 pm/EST) than with a special edition of AA that focuses solely on Dr. Grumpy and his band of merry misfits? There is no better way, silly!

Question: Would you please do a House-only AA? Look, I’ll even get it started: What is this "important decision" that House "struggles" with? House isn’t crazy… so what would cause him, (if anything), to go into a psych ward? –Kate
Ausiello:
House-only AA? What a brilliant idea! And just to clarify, I never said House was for sure checking into a cuckoo’s nest. I was merely making an assumption after connecting a few dots. But if it turns out that he is headed to the funny farm, I would imagine an extreme case of insomnia might be behind it. And I do mean extreme: Poor guy hasn’t slept a wink since Kutner died.

Question: I haven’t been able to find any spoilers for tonight’s House. Do you know anything? –Sari
Ausiello:
I know the ep focuses on Chase’s bachelor party, but Fox’s promo
already gave that away. What the promo didn’t reveal, however, is the
identity of the  person throwing the little shindig: House himself!

Question: Anything worth sharing on House? –Tim
Ausiello:
A major character will suffer a life-threatening medical
emergency tonight. Hint: A clue about what triggers it can be found in
last week’s 30 Rock. Guesses? Head to the comments!

Question: Is Chase’s bachelor party part of House’s hallucination? –Samantha
Ausiello:
No. House also doesn’t imagine ordering Foreman and Thirteen
to go to a strip club to pick out the evening’s, ahem, entertainment.

Question: I’m a little shocked to see Wilson at Chase’s bachelor party in this promo. How’d that happen? –Craig
Ausiello:
Let’s just say House arranged it so that he had no other choice.

Strawberries? (or, I’d guess, some type of food alergy.)
So, do you think Chase and Cameron actually end up married? I’m hoping no. I like Chase and I like Cameron, but what I love is Chase drama. ;)

  • Courtney

Yes, it has to be allergies. And I’m with you…I hope they don’t actually get married either.

  • Eric P.

    Is the cause “Night Cheese”??

  • Adam

Guess idea for a HOUSE edition of A.A. But I was expecting more house-goodness. Ah well, it’s still good. By the way, there’s no mention of “Huddy”, meaning maybe the baby in blind-item isn’t theirs.

You rock Michael! Thanks for taking me up on the suggestion! :) And, of course, for the scoop!

  • Kate

    I almost forgot:
    @Eric P.:
    lol :)
    @Mary & Courtney:
It’s gotta be an allergy, right? (Totally in agreement with no Cameron/Chase wedding, btw)

  • Sandra

I’m curious what tonight’s episode will have in store for us… I hope it’s not Huddy sex and subsequently also not “Yeah, the blind item was about House”, because that might not be good for my poor stomach. It’s allergic to forced relationship crap ;P For sure: I can’t wait to see Amber again!
And I agree with Mary, I like both Cameron and Chase very much, but not as a couple, they are much more fun as individuals and especially in their original function as doctors (House being a medical drama… I guess you’ll get what I mean – less relationships stuff, more medicine, pretty please?).

  • Kate

I’m so mad that I waited two years to get Cameron and Chase back on the show and all I get is this stupid engagement storyline.
Love Cameron, growing to love Chase but I hate them as a couple. Bring back the old show, when it was still about medicine and not a bad soap opera. And bring Cameron and Chase back as doctors.
Why does Thirteen have to be in everyone else’s storyline? Get rid of her already. Let her die from the allergy.

  • Alesha

Count me in as another one who doesn’t want a wedding between Cameron and Chase.

  • Vittoria

I hope that huddy-sex will take to the disaster LE told us months ago, chameron wedding would also end in a disaster (as JM&JS hoped some time ago) and so we maybe can have our show back…
a little-little HCam romance and a right amount of medical stuff…
    just like in S1-2-3.

  • Amy

ITA, that would be like a dream come true!

  • Pat

No wedding for Cameron and Chase.
Bring them back to the show as doctors.

  • Courtney

    @Kate and Mary…
I’m in complete agreement. I love Chase and Cameron as individuals. The show functioned much better that way. now I feel like Chase has lost too much of what made him unique while struggling to convince Cameron to love him. I feel like the relationship made him a weaker character.
I loved the dynamic of the old team, and even if we can’t have them all back together, could we at least have a show about characters again, not couples? I don’t mind hinting at romance and showing clips every now and then, but I miss when Cameron was Cameron and Chase was Chase and Foreman was Foreman and not part of Foreteen. They can hint at love all they want, it makes for a more interesting show, but when they focus solely on couples, I feel like the show loses the strong personalities we all loved from the very beginning of Season One.
    Okay, I’m done ranting ;)

  • Courtney

@Vittoria and Amy…I agree! That would be perfect.
I don’t even mind Huddy so much, though I prefer Hameron. But, that aside, I felt terrible for Huddy in the last episode, becuase I feel like she’s been reduced to this whiny, desperate character pining for House…but why? She’s Cuddy. She’s the boss! She was never portrayed as this weak before…I felt bad for her character, because I’ve always respected and enjoyed Cuddy and seeing her with some pathetic lines made me cringe.
Less romance is the only solution I can see, because Cuddy deserve better than being reduced to such a demeaning role.
And yes, I like that Cameron’s role in her relationship has made her into a stronger character, but I feel bad for Chase, because I feel his character getting weaker.
Hold off on romance-centric episodes, and let our character regain some dignity.

I hope Chameron do get married. Unselfishly speaking, it’d be great for the Chamerons, who’ve waited quite awhile for this moment. But, I don’t really want to see it, unless there’s a montage over something sad, like House being checked into the facility.
I like Thirteen and think now that her time has been apportioned more appropriately I’m even more fond of her.
Most of the people I’ve seen post on House boards don’t want to revisit Hameron-and many were frankly relieved they didn’t go that ridiculous route in ‘Saviors’. Just gave many of us more faith in the House writers.
I abhor soaps and this show is not one.
The episode sounds like it’s going to be fun. The most interesting thing here though is about the major character suffering a life-threatening medical emergency. I’m sure it’s House, but I’m still interested to see it play out.

  • Jay R.

Let’s get Chameron and Huddy together quickly, as both sets of relationships have been under construction since S1. Then we can return to the character-driven, medicine-themed aspects of the show and people who assert that it’s turning into a soap will stop complaining.

  • dutchie

I’m so excited about the rest of the season!! Go Huddy, Go Chameron, Death to Hameron!

  • Samantha

I certainly didn’t see any hint about Huddy and Chameron until mid season 3. I don’t know why it would be disrespectful to Chamerons if Cameron and Chase didn’t get married. The first two seasons and a half it was about House and Cameron, is it disrespectful to those fans that Shore changed his mind? I don’t think Cuddy and Chameron are canon. There’s three more seasons to go, I bet House and Cameron isn’t over yet.

  • House-still the best show on TV

This episode is *so* gonna rock. A Chase/Cameron bachelor party given by House and a dash of Amber too.=awesome. That’s just the way it is, guys. Um, not really understanding the Thirteen hate going on here. And Cuddy has been worrying about House quite a bit as has Wilson, so she hasn’t been her normal kick a** self, but that’s okay given the circumstances. Although I did like the, ‘you’re marking your territory line’ in the last episode. Actually, come to think of it, Huddy is the most interesting couple they have on this show. Just sayin’…

  • Sharon

What’s so cute is how many of the posters here seem to think that if Chase and Cameron get married somehow that’s the end of drama for them. What high-school fantasy world do you people live in where “and they lived happily ever after” automatically comes after I DO. As anyone who is actually married will tell you, the drama only BEGINS at that point, it’s every thing leading up to the wedding that’s the fantasy….

  • sarah

Hey dutchie, Huddy will be dead pretty soon, I hope you don’t cry like a baby.

  • dutchie

    dearest sarah, dream on…

  • Helen

Okay, okay. I agree that the character should be portrayed more as individuals…otherwise this show gets too lost in the romantic cracks.
Personal shipper preferences aside, I do not ultimately care who ends up with who, so long as it’s believable. No bashing, that will get us all nowhere. Ultimately some or all of us will NOT get the result we want, but I’m willing to push past this, so long as the characters stay consistant.
And as for the Thirteen hate, while I could do without her, I don’t think people would hate her if she wasn’t given nearly all of the interesting story lines. I mean, it’s Cameron and Chase’s engagement, and look, there’s Thirteen and no Cameron…
I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. Again, I don’t actually hate any of the characters, but can see why others are so frustrated.

  • karmen

Oh, ugh, please don’t let this be a 13 medical emergency in the midst of all this House, Wilson, Chase goodness!

  • rational man’s faithful sidekick

Sam, if you’re referring to my post, I made no use of the word ‘disrespectful’, first of all it’s a poor choice of wording as Shore/Jacobs have proved to me that they do not disrespect their fans. I spoke of being unselfish. I’ve noticed that since Chameron have gotten engaged there’ve been a lot of embittered Hams hating on them and the ship asking for no Chameron or for no romance period. They want everyone else in the same boat as they are. Which, IMNSHO, is clearly selfish, amongst other things… I have no wish to upset you, but this is simply and honestly what I’ve observed.
Jay R., the soap claim is a mere raison d’être. A wise thing to do here is to not take most posts at face value. Especially the negative posts from just about anyone; there’s almost always an ulterior motive.

  • Kate

    @Helen:
I agree with a lot of what you said. Certainly somehow, some way, somebody’s going to be disappointed when the show ends, and even while it airs. It’s unavoidable. But there’s no sense being rude to each other, as you said. :)
Also, when it comes to Chase and Cameron, I’ve just never bought into their relationship. I like them both individually, but together: not so much.
(Aahh… the downside of having such a common name: I’m the first two “Kate” comments posted, by the way. ;)

Sharon, amen to that! This show likes to try to keep it real in that way. And I respect that. If Cameron and Chase do indeed get married it certainly won’t be something out of an MGM musical. Not on this show. Which interests me even more.

  • tanatus

I know, 13 had a lot of screentime but now things are back to normal. she’s not my favourite character but everytime you see her in a promo for example you begin to complain and I’m sick of it
    sorry for my english

  • Elaine

Michael, in January you quoted David Shore as saying, “The last half-dozen episodes of the season, significant stuff will happen. Potentially game-changing. [As a result], you will be seeing more of them next year. We found a way to use them more.” I’ve been hanging on to that thought for several months, even though many of those episodes had NO Cameron or Chase in them at all! Now they finally get some screentime and it’s all about their WEDDING? Is that Shore’s BIG IDEA? In another one of your columns, Shore says they are not going back to House’s team, so how can they get more screentime? Become Thirteen’s personal doctors? You know it’s all about precious Thirteen, anyway. We’ve been waiting for TWO YEARS; if they can’t find a way to bring them back as doctors, they’re not willing to make the effort. And yet they can find a way to work Thirteeeeeeeeeeeeeen into Chase’s bachelor party. I can’t believe they’re making those poor actors go through a fake wedding. That’s cruel.

  • Vittoria

@Samantha: “I certainly didn’t see any hint about Huddy and Chameron until mid season 3. I don’t know why it would be disrespectful to Chamerons if Cameron and Chase didn’t get married. totally agree.
I still like Cuddy and House-Cuddy no-too-huddy scenes, if I were DS and I want to explore huddy relationship I’d use them in a sit-com style, not dramatize like hameron relationship did.
@rational man: “Most of the people I’ve seen post on House boards don’t want to revisit Hameron-and…”
the strange thing is that hamerons are still a great bunch of audicence. many of them was bored and gave up during S4 or first eps of S5, but they are too many to think hameron is a closed affair.
