Will 'Big Bang' go there with Penny and Sheldon?

Categories: The Big Bang Theory

Bigbang_lYou’ve been asking me, I’ve been asking myself, and finally, I’ve gone and asked Big Bang Theory executive producer Bill Prady: What the frak is the deal with Sheldon and Penny?

“We’re as baffled as Sheldon’s friends are by what his deal is,” never mind what his deal with Penny is, he says. “He doesn’t seem to have any interests that are particularly social, whether they are friendship ones or romantic ones.

“I will say this: In our season 2 opener, Sheldon was kind of shocked
when Penny casually acknowledged that the two of them were friends,” he
continues. “I think just for Sheldon and Penny to have what she will
acknowledge as a friendship is remarkable progress for him. She may be
the only friend he’s made in a while, so I think everyone’s going to
have to call that progress. Hoping for more may be way beyond
possibility.”

Note that Prady said “may be,” not “is.”

Also note that when Sheldon gets locked out of his apartment in the
April 27 episode, “The Vegas Renormalization” — Leonard, Koothrappali
and Wolowitz are, as the title suggests, in Sin City — the brainiac
shacks up with the girl next door. But what does it all mean,
especially in light of what Prady tells me in today’s AA about a potentially huge
advance
in Leonard and Penny’s relationship in the season’s last two
episodes?

“You never know,” he teases.

What do you think? Is BBT going to go there with Sheldon and Penny? Should they? Or would you be as heartbroken as Leonard? Comments below.
Oh, and if you’re going to submit your remarks in the form of a pie
chart or graph, please, jpgs only. Thanks. (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

They soooo shouldn’t go there. There is no romantic chemistry between Penny and Sheldon. Plus, eewwwwww, weird.

  • Erin

I would watch it. We already call it the Penny and Sheldon Show.

  • Jake

It would never work, Sheldon is so not ready for a relationship and i’m sure it would break up his relationship with Leonard.

  • Jenna

I have been championing Penny and Sheldon for a while. WOOT WOOT!!

  • Ambee

As a girl who has a good best friend who is asexual, I hope they keep Sheldon that way. It’s quite clear Sheldon is beyond asexual- he doesn’t understand relationships in general- but I would be much happier if started being social, but kept his asexuality. There are very few true asexual characters on t.v.- but they definitely exist in real life (and are awesome people! I love my friend!)

I thought the guy from this week’s episode was hilarious.
Interaction between Sheldon and Penny is the highlight of the show, but turning it romantic doesn’t seem right.
    Forget Penny and Leonard too…please!!!

  • MSR

No, no, no. It can’t happen. There’s never been any sexual chemistry between the two unlike between Leonard and Penny.

  • C-RO

I think Sheldon is a 30 year old virgin. There’s no way he would ever know how to make a move on a girl like her…unless alcohol is involved, then we may have something…

  • Ashley

Penny and Sheldon have the best chemistry on the show, and are by far the most entertaining duo, they should definetly go there.

  • Kristina

The poor girl who plays Penny cannot act. It’s so sad.

  • Mary

    No, no, no!
Sheldon and Penny must remain platonic friends. Over time, really close but platonic friends.
A romance between the two would ruin it for this fan!

  • Nickmaniac

True, there might not be romantic chemistry between Penny and Sheldon, but there’s PLENTY of chemistry between the two of them anytime they’re alone in a scene together. Not sure I want anything romantic to happen between them, but as far as buddy-comedy chemistry goes, these two have got it, above and beyond the other characters/cast members in the show. ;)

  • PeterBilt The Nature Boy

I am looking forward the episode with PeterBilt The Nature Boy and Penny hooking up. awwwwwwww yeah

  • Monica242

It would be a complete and total train wreck to put Penny and Sheldon together that way. However, I have known a train wreck or two, in the hands of good writers, to be absolutely HI-larious.
I’m fine with their current awkward, antagonistic friendship, to be honest; it’s one of the best aspects of the show. But if they go with a funny trainwreck, I’ll be along for the ride. If only to point and laugh, of course.

  • INES

penny and sheldon are more interesting than penny and leonard… I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEE leonar and I LOVEEEEEEEEEE SHELDON!! sheldon is what make me see TBBT

  • Adam

I know I’m in the minority here, but I really can’t stand this show. (please don’t hurt me)

  • Giselle

Sheldon and Penny’s current relationship is enough for me at the moment. Would I want to see it develop romantically? Only if the progress is paced and drawn out (meaning, not for another season or two), other wise I wouldn’t buy it.
As for Leonard and Penny…I guess I’m indifferent. I don’t find their chemistry as strong as JP and KC’s, but they’re still sweet together.
So…Sheldon/Penny? Eventually would be nice. Leonard/Penny? I like it, but I don’t feel as strongly about their relationship (romantic or not) as I do about Sheldon and Penny’s (again, romantic or not).

  • Maura

Anyone who’s claiming their no sexual chemistry must be watching the wrong show. They even pointed it out as she left his bedroom during Barbarian Sublimation.
Sheldon/Penny is inevitable. They’ve worked so hard to build up a strong friendship that a hug was more noteworthy than a season ending kiss. That says a lot, as will the fans, when they finally get together.

  • mikeman

why do every man and woman who spend more than five minutes together have to bang? house wouldn’t mail cameron or cuddy, yet all you ever see online is hameron or huddy that. leave sheldon and penny alone.

  • Jess

I love Sheldon/Penny. I don’t know that I trust a producer of a sitcom not to ruin them for me, but I would love to see them on the series nonetheless.
Leonard’s infatuation with Penny has become annoying.

  • sweetiepie1019

I’m the type to ship, but in this case, I’d rather they stay the course and not screw up a great awkward friendship. If Penny and Sheldon are going to happen, I’d rather it be a slow build anyway, after another couple of seasons.

  • Capt. Future

WAY to early for the show to jump a shark like that!

  • jen

no, no, and cute. their cute as friends, they have a good report, and the actors are great together, that’s what the deal is. i’m with mikeman, why does any male-femalt friendship have to mean or turn into something else. besides, even if Sheldon discovers he even HAS a romantic side, he’ll need someone equally as crazy as he is to fulfill it. like that girl who was obsessed with him a while ago, just not as controlling.

  • Annie

S/P FTW! L/P is boring, creepy and totally unconvincing. S/P, on the other hand, have an amazing chemistry. Their scenes are full of energy and humor. There’s a spark there that, in my opinion, could be easily transformed into romance.

  • jen

**i meant: no, no, and NO.
    where did cute come from…?

  • John

There is no WAY they should put any of the guys in a relationship with Penny. They should leave the dynamic alone. It’s perfect as it is, and putting Penny into a romantic relationship with any of the guys would be completely unrealistic and take the show in a bad direction.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  • Dana

I’d like to see their friendship continue to progress but a romance between the two of them? Id’ never buy it. Keep Sheldon asexual unless you find a woman for him whose character is similar to his.

  • jen

    **good RAPPORT…
i really should have proof-read that thing

  • Deb

I think they make a more logical couple than Penny & Leonard! I love the show but those 2 have zero chemistry.

  • orville

Oh, please don’t go there. Yes, they have chemistry, but not sexual. They have more of a love/hate friendship chemistry like Elaine and George from Seinfeld. I’d like to see the “huge advance” in their relationship to be on Sheldon’s part. Like him willingly overlooking one of his obsessive quirks for her, doing something thoughtful for her that isn’t self-serving (most of his “favors” end up being very much about him) or self-protecting (like him not knocking on her door before a certain hour or else she’ll hurt him), or just behaving in a brotherly way with her that he can’t seem to manage even with his own family. Perhaps she will become his “person”–you know, the person you put on “in case of emergency” forms and the like.
