Exclusive: '24' moving to New York!

Categories: 24

Kiefersutherland24_lAfter six seasons in Los Angeles and one in D.C., Jack Bauer is taking his one-man show to Broadway!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that 24 will be relocating to New York next season — at least on screen. (The show will still be primarily shot in Los Angeles, with some NY location footage mixed in.)

Production on Day 8 gets underway next month, but already details are emerging. In addition to the move to the Big Apple, CTU will make a comeback under the leadership of a new, yet-to-be-cast male character by the name of Brian Hastings. Described as an MBA type with a razor sharp intellect, Hastings will be joined by two new twentysomething agents (one male, one female), as well as Mary Lynn Rajskub’s returning Chloe.

As previously reported, Slumdog Millionaire’s smarmy game show host, Anil Kapoor, is joining the cast as Arman Hashemi, a Middle Eastern leader on a peacemaking mission in the U.S. Casting is underway for the roles of his brother and wife.

i think this new twentysomething female agent goes by an alias of Summer Glau

Great, great move. The image of Jack tearing through the streets of NYC is just awesome. Question: will interior shots still be done in L.A.?
This current season still films primarily in the San Fernando Valley, despite the D.C. exteriors.

It really doesn’t matter to me where 24 is being held. As long as Jack Bauer continues kicking ass and taking names, I’m good.

  • Ryan

    Wow! Can’t wait!

  • The_1337

    AWESOME!!!
Hopefully CTU will do some real background checks before letting in another mole.

  • Danielle W

I’m entirely psyched for this! Hopefully, as a person who lives near the city, we can get some tips as to where they are filming! I’d love to spend a day 24-watching this summer!

  • Jenny

    Just imagine…
-Jack on a subway full of Yankees and Red Sox fans.
-Jack chasing a terrorist while driving a TAXI through the Lincoln Tunnel
    -Jack in Central Park!

  • Melinda65

Excellent! Should we start a pool on how long it’ll be before Jack appropriates a subway train?

  • Meg

I like it, i think a new city offers an interesting change and bringing Chloe back to a more dominate role is all i care about

  • Jenny

BTW, I’m guessing the interior shots will still be in LA and maybe they’ll make a few trips to NY throughout the season. They are starting the shooting 3 months earlier than usual so they’ll have extra time for location shoots.

  • Andrew

FYI everybody- Annie Wersching, Cherry Jones, and Carlos Bernard have also confirmed that they will appear during Day 8 as well.

  • Mayur

I have no idea how they’re going to get through traffic in Manhattan. For some reason, I have a gut feeling the United Nations will play an integral role in season 8

    AUSIELLO-
please please please petition Howard Gordon to cast Summer Glau as the big bad in 24!!! sounds like perfect casting to me.

  • ShutUpRob

Unless 24 does do most of the shooting in L.A., it sounds to me like Fox trying to shift a show from SAG jurisdiction to AFTRA jurisdiction ala Ugly Betty.

Being in New York, this is the best news I got all year. I have not missed a single episode of 24 since it started 8 years ago. I even sat through season 6!! This season is just as good as season one thru 5, and the change to DC made it even more cooler. Now, NY! All I can say is WOW!!!

  • Kelli

As long as they bring back Annie Wersching and Cherry Jones, I’m in! They really added a lot this season.

  • Steve

Uhh, why has nobody mentioned that this means that dying Jack (and once-again evil Tony evidently) are going to survive day 7?

  • Kelli

As long as they bring back Annie Wersching and Cherry Jones, I’m in! They really added a lot this season.

  • Thom

I just hope that Agent Walker still stays on the show….

  • brucek65

Summer Glaus is out of a job now that Fox cancelled The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She would make a nice partner for Jack Bauer or a bad a** adversary.

  • Brett

Does this mean that “24″ will, at long last, get a musical episode? Jack has to go undercover in a production of “South Pacific” or something?

  • Adam

Terrorist attack in NYC… are they sure they wanna go that way?

It’s cool that season 8 will take place in New York City. They need to move the filming sets to New York rather than film it in Los Angeles.

  • David4

About damn time! I don’t know why they didn’t do this sooner. After seven days you think the terrorists would blow up another city besides the ones near LA.

  • Don Jariyasunant

Bauer on Broadway. Sounds awesome!! Can you imagine Jack running down Times Square screaming….Total awesomeness!!

  • Nikethemutt

LA or NYC? Who cares. Just as long as the producers continue to include those pompous, preachy, “Do your part to save the environment” skits at the end of each show. It’s the funniest part of each show!!! :P

  • Robin

Start spreadin’ the news–Jack Bauer in NYC! Just hope that next season is as great as this season has been!

  • Joe C

This has been a great season of 24, and I REALLY think that my point has been proven; the show does not need Chloe. Hopefully she’ll have as small a role next year as this one. Here’s hoping Agent Walker comes back; she brings something new and vital to the show!

  • Nick

How exactly does this mean that Tony will survive, Steve? Jack’s got that step cell thing, and they’re not going to kill him off. I’m liking the idea of CTU reopening, and I love the locale of New York. But that’s the thing: you can’t really mimic New York unless you’re actually in New York. It’s one of the most distinctive places in the United States. Moving everything to New York and ditching LA would be the best choice.
And speaking of New York, how’s an hour of the show going to go? Jack sitting in traffic for a few episodes when trying to get from point A to point B?

  • Chris

I want to hear some Logan spoilers!
CSI:NY and Without A Trace are both mainly filmed in LA and the some scenes are shot in NYC but you can’t tell. 24 should’ve done this much earlier.
