'90210' stars lament leading man's exit: 'TV is cruel'

Dustin Milligan was conspicuously missing from Saturday’s 90210 event at PaleyFest ‘09, but the actor — who was recently handed his walking papers — was on the forefront of his co-stars’ minds.

“I’m going to miss him terribly,” confessed Milligan’s leading lady, Shenae Grimes. “He is an amazing guy and an amazing actor. We would bounce ideas off each other and we could be straight up with each other. We could be like, ‘Chill with the mouth thing.’ It was nice to have that on-set camaraderie. But we will keep in touch.”

Ryan Eggold, who only just learned of Milligan’s exit, echoed those
sentiments. “It will be a bummer not to see him on set,” he said. “It’s
sad, but that stuff happerns. Shows end, they go in different
directions… I was loving doing Dirt and then the writers strike
buried us and we all got let go. You just have to accept that this will
happen from time to time. TV is a cruel mistress.”

Adding potential insult to injury for Milligan is the fact that
Milligan’s character may not even get a proper send-off; Grimes
confirms that the season’s final episodes fail to provide closure for
Ethan. “I don’t know exactly how they will explain it [next season].”
However, Milligan’s pseudo-replacement, Matt Lanter, hints that his
bad-boy alter ego will start to bring out Ethan’s dark side as
the season winds down. “[Liam] is going to start influencing the other
kids — specifically Ethan — and not in a good way,” he revealed. “We
have a Habitat for Humanity episode [coming up] and I take Ethan on a camping trip
and Liam gets Ethan into some trouble.”

First post? Uh oh, it looks like the dreaded “written out using dialogue” by one of the remaining characters early next season.

  • Barbara

God, I hate it when they have a throwaway line signalling that someone has left.

  • Melissa

I think the character of Ethan is getting cut because the show cast 3 Brendan’s and not a single Dylan. The intro of Liam finally brings in a bad boy and it seems like the audiences are enjoying Navid and Dixon more than Ethan (who was a bad boy for 1 episode). He’s a good actor, but I think the show needs some more excitement and everyone was too goody goody.

Seems like the year of the Departure…

    “Where’s Etahn?”
“He decided to transfer to a prep school out east – now lets never mention him again”
    The end.

Yes he was missing from Saturday’s 90210 event.

It’s sad, because he was one of the main reasons I tuned in. However, I think he’s a charming actor who will get picked up by a (hopefully) better show.

Way too old to be watching this show, but fondly remember the original. Yes, Ethan was easy on the eyes but his character was a yawner; I think mainly because the show jumped too fast from Naomi to Annie as the girlfriend. They could have stretched that out for some good angst.
This show has been dreadful since it started and I kept hanging in there. Looks like there may be payoff – the last episode (or two) was much better.

Hahaha no offense I would have killed him off since the car accident. Dustin might be a great person to hang around w/ but acting wise he’s weak and the character Ethan is annoying every fanbase. There are Silver and Dixon fans and Naomi and Annie fans hoping Dixon goes Micheal Lee on him. I just don’t want to mention Ethan after this season.

  • debi

Whatever they do with Ethan, could they please send Annie with him? Trust me, no one will notice.

It is reported that Chris is flirting with a super model secretly at _classymingle.com_ a Wealthy men and celebrities dating place

Ethan in my opinion is a boring character and Annie even worse. Both of them could leave the show and I bet no one would mind that much. This show started out really strong but recently has had really predictable plotlines. The only characters I like right now are Naomi, Liam, Adrianna and the whole Ryan/Kelly fiasco.

“I don’t know exactly how they will explain it [next season].”
I’ve got a great idea! “Ethan and Annie eloped and moved to Timbuktu, never to be seen or heard from again.” It’s not too late to show the fans you care, writers!

  • debi

    mooshki, LOL! ITA.

  • Melissa

I’d like Annie to go out like Dylan’s first wife Toni.

  • debi

Melissa, LOL! You guys kill me!

  • LAW

Who cares about Ethan? Why is no one talking about how stupid it is that Donna and David are “seperated”. Why can’t they just let one of the couples from the old show live happily ever after? There was no reason for them to be apart. He could have just been at work in Japan. The writers better have a good reason for doing that. It sure doesn’t sound like there was a good one for firing one of the main characters.

  • Liminal

It’s really because of a sex scandal.. with the producer.. check it out..

  • Jane

Sadly, he’s too ugly and untalented to be a “leading man”.

  • cee

i will not watch this show if they kill him off. he’s like the whole sex-apeel like for real no one i know’s gonna watch it if he’s not on it, he’s everybodys favorite guy. screw liam.
