Touch-freaking-down!
Sources at NBC are now confirming what I first reported earlier this month: DirecTV and NBC have come to terms on a deal that ensures Friday Night Lights will stick around for not one but two more seasons!
And I repeat: Touch-freaking-down!
Although NBC declined to comment, my Peacock insider says the pact guarantees that FNL will see a fourth and fifth season of 13 episodes each. Similar to this season’s shared-window experiment, DirecTV will get first crack at the episodes followed by an encore run on NBC.
Let’s get a chant going in the comments section! And while you’re at it, pray that the show’s creative mastermind, Jason Katims, finds a way to juggle both FNL and that prospective Parenthood series he’s producing for NBC. Ditto director Jeffrey Reiner, who’s attached to NBC’s Trauma pilot. Losing one would be devastating; losing both would be a catastrophe. So how about we lose neither? You with me?

Woo hoo!
Now if NBC would promote it…
YES. YESSSSSSSSSSS.
But what about Chuck?
I love you Michael–thanks for lobbying so hard for this show when no one watches it.
I’m so happy this is one of the best shows on television right now and a great cast!!!
Awesomeness.
Much awesomeness.
To NBC:
Hello,
Love the show. PLEASE air the show in letterbox on the non-HDTV feed. Just like you do with every other drama. The close-up zoom in shots make the show impossible to when watched a non-HDTV since you can’t see anyone’s face and the shaky camera is a lot more noticable. PLEASE. Ausiello, please pass this info on. PLEASE. I can see why regular joes don’t like the show if they don’t see it in widescreen or with black bars.
Hooray – it’s about time a high quality show was given a chance to continue airing! Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!
YES YES YES YES!!! AT LAST A GREAT SHOW THAT SURVIVES BAD RATINGS!! AFTER PUSHING DASIES I DIDN’T THINK IT COULD HAPPEN!
I’m still waiting for the “official” announcement before I get too worked up. But I’m super excited about it all.
Plus I’ll have more to talk about on the FNL podcast @ FNLpodcast.com !!!!
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!
Well done, NBC.
YAAAAAAAAY
I didn’t want to get my hopes up when i first heard the news. This is very good news!
I’m with John Ruggeri..
What about Chuck?
I am so happy right now, I don’t even know what to say.
Finally, TV execs get one right!
Excellent! I am so glad, FNL is by far the best show on tv. I still beleve what a reviewer wrote about the pilot, that FNL isn’t just a tv show, it’s art.
I don’t watch FNL anymore (lost interest over the loooooooong hiatus), but I agree it’s a decent show. I just hope this doesn’t diminish Chuck’s chances of renewal.
If I were any happier, they’d have to glue me to the wall and throw darts at me! WOO FREAKING HOO!!! I love DirecTV and NBC right now!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent news! I’m so excited for 2 more seasons.
I just got kind of teary-eyed when I read this. YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!! Now fingers crossed they can keep all the actors who play the seniors!
I LOVE THIS SHOW!
this is a true miracle. finally, they realized that friday night lights is one of the best shows on tv.
Good news for the competing networks on Fridays.
YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!

now instead of focusing on getting the show back on the air I can focus on getting every single person on that show the emmys they’ve had coming for 3 seasons.
BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!
So now maybe we can see Smash at Texas A&M or Riggins at SA. And maybe they can bring Street back as an agent for an episode or two in the future. Fantastic. This simply makes my day.
Yay!!!!!!
BEST NEWS ALL DAY. Thanks for providing a happy moment on a Monday.
It’s a little ridiculous, how happy this has made me. Such great news, I can’t wait to see what they do next season.
BEST. MONDAY. EVER.
