At some point during the series finale of Battlestar Galactica tonight, Sci Fi will unveil a 30-second trailer for Stargate: Universe featuring a first look at the show’s crew. Actually, make that a second look. This exclusive cast shot above is, technically speaking, the first look.
Study it. Discuss it. Share it with friends. And then try connect the names with the faces, ’cause I don’t have the time to do that whole left-right-front row-back row thing.
Here are those names now (again, in no particular order): Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips, Justin Louis, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.
Okay, I’ll get you started: Carlyle is front and center.
SG:U, which is being billed as the edgier cousin to Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1, debuts this fall.

I just hope it’s better than its predecessors. Robert Carlyle’s one of my favorite actors so… I’ll definitely give it a chance.
Great… Stargate: Voyager. Call me unimpressed.
I hope this show does well.
Could it be any worse than Atlantis and the last few seasons of SG-1?
Oh yeah it’s all the same writers… yeah it’s going to blow badly.
Hellooooo Brian J. Smith
Yay David Blue! I think that guy’s adorable.
Why is Robert Carlyle slumming on Stargate?
Ummm…Stargate: Sausagefest? Gonna be a lot of chest-puffing up in THAT mug.
Could you make your exclusive photo even smaller?
Looks like a good cast.
I won’t be watching as I’m still mad over the way Atlantis was cancelled to make way for Universe.
But I wish them luck with the rest of the fans.
What are you talking about…. Stargate is great. My favourite seasons of Atlantis were the last 3 seasons and SG-1 too. I can’t wait until Stargate Universe is on the air. The cast looks great. But why aren’t they in costume? That would be cooool! I guess we’ll have to wait until the show actually airs.
Lou Diamond Phillips? Ming-Na? Robert Carlyle? That’s a pretty star-studded cast. Sounds like it could be pretty good!
I’ve never watched Stargate Atlantis but I’ll check this one out mainly because of Robert Carlyle
Nothing will ever top seasons 1-8 of Stargate SG-1. Atlantis was a poor carbon copy and this one isn’t so much “edgy” as it is “Voyager.”
I actually liked Atlantis more than SG1. I was more fascinated by the characters.
But each to thier own, I’m sure there will be those who think this new series will be the best one ever.
They didn’t change the writers and producers, so it will be more of the same run of the mill scifi light that anybody wrote churn out in 30 seconds (why don’t we? The real trick is being able to suck up well enough!)
Bring back SGA. The show was still doing well in ratings. Screw SGU.
I’m actually quite impressed by the cast they’ve put together. I’m still a little bit burned over the premature cancellation of Atlantis, but I’ll be checking this out.
They cancelled SGA for this? There goes the planet.
Where are the hot guys. Three extraordinarily attractive women and not one guy that could be deemed more than cute? Seriously. They’ve been promising me “young and sexy” Stargate for months. It really doesn’t count if it’s only the girls.
I don’t know why people hate SG-1 and Atlantis so much. They were both great shows. It does suck that Atlantis was canceled too soon in my opinion. As for this new version of Stargate, I won’t be able to watch it on Sci-Fi as I don’t have the channel, but I wish it the best of luck. I am just as miffed as others about the premature ending of Atlantis. It was my favorite of all the inceptions of Stargate so far.
Looks great. Can’t wait to see Begbie on Stargate. Yes, seasons 1-8 of SG-1 is classic. Yes, SGA also great. But for the record, Avalon, Origin and Beachhead of SG-1 season 9 are among the best episodes in the entire franchise. I think those particular episodes balanced a fresh dark tone for the franchise while maintaining the great humor. I think the mood these four classic SG-1 episodes is a great template for the new ‘darker’ SGU.
Lou Diamond Phillips and Ming-Na? so THAT’S where they’ve been hiding!
I don’t suppose Dr. Rodney McKay will make an appearance? He’s my fav.
Lou Diamond Phillips! LOL! I had some drinks with him last year at Riskey’s BBQ in downtown Fort Worth TX. He’s pretty cool!!
Don’t mess with a good thing! Why make another Stargate??? ::sigh:: I think they’ve exhausted every sci-fi plot line in SG1 and Atlantis, not to mention YEARS of Star Trek; what makes them think they’re going to create a “new” show with different ideas? The horse is dead! Stop kicking it!!
I’m 58-years young so that puts me in my mid-teens when the original Star-Trek first aired. The original Star-Gate & cast was (IS)simply OUTSTANDING. Star-Gate Atlantis was OK. However, the older I get the more I’m amazed at the “so-called” experts. Who by the way, are anything BUT experts. Therefore, and please forgive this improper grammar, but I’m not “EVEN” going to watch this so-called new “Star-Gate Universe.” You want to see your ratings go literally through the roof, get the original cast back together and write some great stories. You’ll never learn.
Twelve years of Stargate and this is the first time this magazine has acknowledged their existence. This show has big shoes to fill. SG-1 and Atlantis were exceptional shows that didn’t receive the credit they deserved. Hopefuly this show will wake up people to a very sucessful, well acted franchise.
Ming-Na? I am there!
LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS IS ALIVE! (thats great news…i just wish they got Emilio Estevez too).
