Whether it’s because your favorite shows are trying to decrease their budgets or increase their buzz, they’re going to be bumping off characters in unprecedented numbers in the coming months. To prepare you for this surprise killing season, I’ve compiled a list that tells you everything you need to know about the noteworthy casualties to come… well, everything short of an actual ID, anyway. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Desperate Housewives
Number of deaths: 1 (at least)
Time frame: Spring
The scoop: The dearly departed has been with the show since the first season and has a reputation for being… eh, screw it, it’s Edie!
Chuck
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: It’ll be “shocking,” declares exec producer Josh Schwartz.
Ugly Betty
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: The obvious candidates are terminally ill Molly (Sarah Lafleur) or barely-visible Christina (the exiting Ashley Jensen). Which means it’s probably neither.
Law & Order: SVU
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: Season finale
The scoop: It’s not Benson (Mariska Hargitay) or Stabler (Chris Meloni). Beyond that, no one’s safe.
24
Number of deaths: 2 (at least)
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: Um, it’s 24. It’d probably be easier if I told you how many people aren’t dying.
CSI: NY
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: A cop killer targets a member of the team and “forever changes” the show, teases exec producer Peter M. Lenkov.
Smallville
Number of deaths: 2
Time frame: Season finale
The scoop: One of the deceased is a long-running character. The other isn’t. One is a man. The other…
Heroes
Number of deaths: 3
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: Two of the deaths will stick. A third won’t.
House
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: April or May
The scoop: Major character.
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
Number of deaths: 1 (at least)
Time frame: April or May
The scoop: Major male character.
Big Love
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: March 20 season finale
The scoop: Major male character.
Supernatural
Number of deaths: 2
Time frame: One in April, another in May
The scoop: Both characters have close ties to Sam and Dean.
Lost
Number of deaths: 2 (at least)
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: One is major, the other major-ish.
Ghost Whisperer
Number of deaths: 1
Time frame: End of season
The scoop: The victim will be someone close to one of the main characters
Prison Break
Number of deaths: 2 (at least)
Time frame: End of season
The
scoop: As the series reaches its climax, Michael must choose whether to
save the love of his life (Sara) or his bro (Linc). Maybe he chooses
neither?
This is the time of the show when you guys take out your crystal
balls and ID the would-be victims. Come on, don’t be shy. Share your
fearless predictions below! And keep checking back for updates! I have a feeling this list is going to get a lot longer. (Additional reporting by Jeremy Medina and Aly Semigran)

Is there a reason Grey’s wasn’t up there? Hmmm, are George and Izzie actually STAYING?! :-p Why the omission?! Whhhyyyyyyy? :-p
On Chuck, it better not be Sarah or Casey (I think it goes without saying that Chuck will be fine so I don’t need to threaten there.) Shocking could be Awesome or Ellie or even Morgan. My guess is Ellie.
On Lost, I am dying to know which MAJOR character is going. I hope it isn’t Juliet, Sawyer, Sun or Jin. But I am also curious, are they dying like John Locke “died” or really dying.
So Izzie isn’t dying from her cancer? will she be one of the 5%?
Shocking would be Chuck’s sister. Or Morgan. I hope it’s Awesome.
Okay… lemme just warn some people now:
Supernatural’s death BETTER NOT be Bobby. And one of Lost’s deaths BETTER NOT be Desmond. Because that’s just not gonna fly. K? K.
I keep hearing rumors about Hurley dying on “Lost,” but that picture of Desmond on here upsets me; it better not be him!!!
Why even include 24? Of course someone is going to die. They already killed Bill, so we should only be surprised if it’s Jack! No one is ever safe on that show. No tease there really!
I’m so tired of Heroes deaths that don’t stick. They keep faking us out but should just get the balls to kill someone and keep them dead.
Supernatural? Bobby? Better not be!!
Is it written now into the new writers contract that they must kill off someone in every single show on the air?
Please let Heroes kill off Tracey/whatever her name is now. Her time being chained in the chair under the hot lamps is so not interesting, and she has never really clicked with the rest of the characters. Now, without Mikah and his dad, she’s adrift.
I’m stressed out about the death on CSI NY. I really hope it’s not one of the main cast, or more specifically not Danny or Lindsay.
I could probably live without anyone else. Someone like Angell dying would be fine.
I’d put money on the Chuck death being either Jill or Bryce, both of whom are returning by the end of the season.
Thank GAWD it’s not Elliot or Olivia! Please let it be Kimbies, please let it be Kimbies…
michael ausiello that picture of desmond BETTER be clever trickery. if he dies, i’m holding you PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE.
I totally echo the “better not be!” sentiment about Bobby on Supernatural, but he’s the only one it could be! He is the only person who is close to Sam & Dean. Boo! I’m sure it will make a compelling story, but he will be missed!
Please let it be Ali Larter on Heroes.
I believe the LO SVU death is Ice-T. I think he was suppose to leave last year but managed to get him to stay one more year.
The Supernatural Death is the brother that Sam and Dean never knew about. It was already announced he would only be in one show and his appearance would change everything.
Smallville has to be Chloe… No other character is “long running” other than Clark… That sucks.
All I know is if Chloe from ‘24′ dies or Bobby from ‘Supernatural’ bites it, this television season will officially suck!
Okay that got me nowhere near knowing who could be that is leaving CSI:NY. I really don’t want any of the main cast members to go, better be one of the recurring characters.
Big Love: Alby Grant. *sniff. Need more bathroom sex.
Chloe better not be one of the deaths on Smallville!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll jump on the “It had better not be Desmond” bandwagon. Because it HAD BETTTER NOT be Desmond!
…Or Sawyer, Locke, Sun, Jin…I could keep going…
Ausiello – don’t taunt chloe fans like this by putting her picture in that montage. Chloe better not die!
Wait, on LOST, I thought Charlotte WAS the major-ish death? Oh No!
Please, please, please DON’T kill Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan. If a long-running female character was to be killed off, choose Martha Kent instead. She has lived a long and fruitful life.
I will be upset if Chloe dies, I know because she is not apart of the mythos it was bound to happen but I always imagined her dying in the series finale. Chloe Sullivan is just so awesome!
Supernatural will probably be bobby, saw him on a new show preview.
But for Smallville? That will be a sad one! Both shows are absolutely fantastic that the loss of anyone is terrible!
