The ink on NBC’s unofficial renewal of Heroes is barely dry and already the show’s producers are looking ahead to the fourth season. Truth be told, they’ve been looking ahead for some time now.
"We’ve spent a lot of time in the writers room talking about what season 4 is going to look like," consulting producer Bryan Fuller told me earlier this week. (At the time he was cautiously optimistic about the show’s chances of returning.)
Fuller says the final moments of the season 3 finale will set the stage for what’s to come in the fall. "Basically, the last act of episode 25, similar to what’s been done in the past, opens up a new chapter of Heroes. It sets up arcs for a variety of characters."
That’s particularly true in the case of Claire, Fuller says. "We set all the pieces up in terms of Claire’s attitude and what her trajectory is going to be in season 4. You will have a very strong idea by the end of this season’s final episode where Claire is going and what’s going to be happening with the Petrellis."
Of course, the bigger question is whether anyone will care where they’re going. Personally, based on what I’m hearing about this season’s final batch of episodes, I actually do care. But enough about me, let’s talk about you: What do you think of Heroes‘ early (and still unofficial) pickup? Relieved? Indifferent? None of the above? Sound off below!

CHUCK! SEASON 3!
Oh, gosh! Just cancel this freaking badly show!
Sure, it hasn’t been as good as the first season, but I am still enjoying Heroes.
Right now it’s certainly better than it was last fall, still needs more personality, better writing, less “move the plot”-esque dialogue. How many more weeks until the Fuller-effect?
can’t wait yattttta
People are still watching this train wreck? Wow… put it out of its misery already.
Heroes Forever!
cant wait for season 4.
i am just mad that EW dropped the TVwatch with no warning.
I agree with P! I couldn’t care less about Heroes. The Office is guaranteed for next season, but I need me some more Chuck Bartowski!!!
Heroes must come back…Regardless of what other ppl say heroes is the best and i assure you it wont be canceled
well, the only good thing to come out of this is my monday night drinking game lives on. every time i hear the words ‘monster’, ‘villain’ and ‘destiny’ on that show i take a shot. i’m usually drunk my halftime.
After last week, I care again about Heroes and am excited about another season!
I second that. P. If they enc up renewing Knight Rider and cancel Chuck … I’m gonna be peeved.
I’m seriously excited for the last episodes of Fugitives and the next season. I love Heroes, it’s the only show I’m eagerly watching.
I’m glad they’re already talking Season 4. The show is (finally!) getting back to the level it was in Season 1, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
“Claire’s attitude and trajectory”…im guessing it involves her being incredibly annoying and whinning about everything.
John: Good comment re: “move the plot” dialogue. The dialogue has to feel organic. I’m hoping Fuller changes things.
I’m an avid comic book fan and I must say that this show is one of the worst on television. It needs to be canceled. Every season, some guy’s going to paint a picture of the future showing an explosion somewhere and then all the characters will avoid the fact that it probably deals with the same characters it’s dealt with for the past three seasons and run around like idiots. Oh, and Hiro will attempt to be cute and run around on an unrelated journey having to do with his destiny and a stupid sword. HORRIBLE.
I haven’t seen the last few episodes, and I haven’t really missed it. I think the production level of the show is top notch, but very few of the relationship conflicts ring true. Based on some of the comments I’ve seen here, it sounds like things might have picked up. I’ll check it out this next week, since I won’t get my Lost fix. I hope it’s ok. Btw, Claire is so annoying. I think they could easily get rid of her. So I’m not hopeful for season 4 if it involves her heavily.
I am done with this show. I finally stopped watching half-way through last week’s episode. The way Matt tried to read/control people’s minds just finally got to me. While I love Sylar as a character, his journey to find his dad is just stupid. He neeeds to be interacting with the other Heroes! So now I have a free hour between Chuck and Medium. Heroes is dead to me now.
Sounds great, I’ve always loved Heroes, episodes may be weaker than other but none suck to me, people who negatively argue that the show is crap should chill out and not watch the show if they don’t like it that much…this said, Heroes Season 4 sounds great, looking forward to the rest of the Season 3, extended by 3 episodes, sounds good to me.
With Bryan Fuller behind it, you can expect great stuff!
Honestly, I am enjoying this volume quite a lot, but I really, really hope they have the guts to kill of an major character from the first season, because there is no genuine sense of jeopardy for me at the moment. Whoever dies, I know they won’t have to guts to keep them dead (except, unfortunately Adam Monroe)
Why bother?
I am so happy to hear that things are looking good for a season 4(although it’s still unofficial)and i strongly believe that the show has definitely improved and is slowly going back to what it was season 1. Don’t get me wrong, i know it will never be as good as it was season 1 but “fugitives” is so much better than “villains”. I haven’t given up on this show yet and i still refuse to. I hope they find a way to fix ali larter’s character(s)but is sylar’s character still necessary?
I’m not a Heroes basher (in fact, I named my dog Hiro), but it is my fervent desire that Heroes fix a nagging problem with its current narrative: Peter’s power. The show was best when Peter and Sylar were essentially the good and evil versions of the same person. Peter needs to be able to build his tolerance for holding more than one power at once. Not only is this way cooler (the best scene in any episode is Peter taking control Neo-style in “5 Years Later”), but it also figures into the show’s mythology. If Peter doesn’t have all his powers going forward, how does he come back from the future at the beginning of volume 3? (This HAS to happen, just like Hiro HAS to get his power back so that he can go back and warn Peter to save Claire.) Anyway, I just hope that the writers decide to do this. Peter is a little boring without his cool powers.
I’m very happy with Heroes renewal. I have faith in this show, and this past episode made it worth my patients. I think it’s beginning to feel a bit like the “old days” and that should make NBC happy. As for me, I’ll watch no matter what.
Right now, the show is regaining some of its footing. But it still sucks a little. And I wish two things would happen: 1. Kill all the garbage about the future and trying to prevent it. That sucks. And 2. kill off a few people and keep the characters closer together, so you don’t have 15 different storied going at once. That really sucked.
I love Heroes, I hope they do come back. Granted the episodes this season have been somewhat not good. Especially with the main characters losing their powers, but i’m excited to see what they have in stored for the next season. Hopefully Peter will get his original powers back!!
Best. Show. Ever. And volume 4 is the best one so far, even better than volume 1. I am also glad that they nerfed down some of the heroes with strong abilities. Now they can act more rationally.
And talking about acting. Grunberg deserves an Emmy.
