'Bones' exclusive: 'Major health crisis' looming for Booth

Categories: Bones

Davidboreanaz_l Is the long-awaited nookie for Booth and Brennan in the season finale of Bones just a lovely parting gift for David Boreanaz’s character? Probably not, but it sounds like the wisecracking detective will stare death in the face later this season.

“He will be going through a major health crisis,” reveals executive producer Stephen Nathan, “which will cause him to hallucinate.”

Yikes. But whatever Booth’s ultimate fate (the fact that he’s the star
of the show probably bodes well for him), at least viewers won’t be
imagining his sweet, sweet lovemaking with his partner. “The last
episode [of the season] Booth and Brennan are in bed together,” Nathan confirms. “And
we can’t have them in bed naked without having sex.”

And the morning after? Will there be catastrophic Moonlighting-esque
awkwardness? Thankfully, no. “That’s all going to be resolved within
that episode,” Nathan promises, “because we also have to resolve the
fact that Brennan wants to have a child.”

So what do you think, folks? Does the words “health” and “crisis” in
the same sentence as the name “Booth” strike terror into your hearts?
Or do you figure this is just another way for Bones to rattle our…
you know? Sound off below. (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

I hope the “nookie” isn’t a hallucination. That would be a total cop-out.

  • Geoff

Is the first paragraph in English or am I missing something????

  • Melissa

I hope the sex isnt just a hallucinatiom! That would be annoying… unless it led to the real thing. And since he is a producer/star on the show, this health crisis doesn’t scare me too much!

  • Miss B

I bet Booth gets drugged by a bad guy, and that’s what causes him to hallucinate.

  • Jenn

I know Booth will be ok but whenever he is in some kind of trouble I love seeing how Brennan is. Her love really comes thru for him big time. Im glad its coming back soon and will be the rest of the season uninterrupted.

  • Jordan

Yes, terror! And lots of it!
But, even so, Booth can’t die. That’s like Gilligan’s Island without the island.
I still don’t like that Brennan wants a baby, though. It’s very out-of-character for her.

  • Zoe

    DO NOT WANT!!!!!!!!

  • Crystal

    Oh, what the crap…

  • Jackie

Hasn’t the health crisis/hallucination been done on some other shows this year? I find myself unimpressed with the writers’ creativity. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out…

  • TB

Didn’t he just “stare death in the face” towards the end of last season?

  • Aydrian

The nookie is NOT a hallucination. They’ve said that many times. Hell, they said that in this very article.

  • Michelle

Booth already hallucinated/saw a ghost/whatever in Hero in the Hold. What’s the big deal? Also, I don’t by the Brennan-suddenly-wants-a-kid thing. Seems awful OOC to me.

  • JenJen

    Um, Booth….health…crisis..
I’m terrified! I hope nothing happens to Booth!!! I already miss Zack!! It would make sense though, they’ve made it clear this season that Booth loves Bones but a health crisis could force Bones to face her feelings about him. We’ll see!

  • Boog

Hmmmm. My theory: Booth’s back will require surgery. Bet something goes wrong and he dies on the table for a minute. When he wakes, Bones finally admits they have a thing, that she wants kids bc Parker is at the hospital for his dad, and she and Booth act on it when he gets home. Albeit in woman superior.

  • Jena

Hallucinations, sex and hallucinations, Booth just got done talking to a dead ghost. Why am I afraid this sounds too much like Izzie’s crazy story line from Grey’s?
Here’s to hoping that the sex is real. And can we learn more about Brennen’s want to have a child now?

  • AJ

I hope it’s a brain tumor, causing his hallucinations (Luc Robitaille) and ~ghost visits~ (Teddy Parker).

  • to Boog

Near-fatal back surgery followed immediatly by sex (in any position)? OUCH!

  • Lisa

“at least viewers won’t be imagining his sweet, sweet lovemaking with his partner.”
    its real alright

  • marie

have confidence in the writers! the hallucination thing makes sense; it’s not anything new. booth has had hallucinations before so this will be a good tie in as to why he’s having so many. can’t wait for the sweet, sweet lovemaking. it’s going to be hot. and booth faces death all the time; he’s an fbi agent. it’s not an old story line. it’s his job. i believe the finale is going to be awesome!

  • Alia

The article says that “viewers” won’t be imagining it, not that Booth won’t.

  • veronica

Is anyone else as completely annoyed as I am that the writers have Bones wanting a child? Hopefully nothing comes of it. Adding a child to a show ruins everything. Boreanaz should know this better than anyone, what with Connor making several seasons of Angel nigh unbearable. Fingers crossed it’s just a passing whim. Lord knows I can’t handle another character on one of my shows being completely ruined by an infant (I used to love Cuddy on House, but now I can’t stand her). If the writers are hell-bent on jumping the shark, I can think of a whole lot better ways to do it…

  • Brody

I wonder if that concussion Booth got during the hockey episode was worse than we thought?

  • Marisa

My thoughts on the Booth/Bones bed bit: it’s a dream or hallucination. Maybe a “what would happen if…?” sort of way.

  • Dan

I’m just wondering how many times they’re planning on having Booth see hallucinations/ghosts this year.
If they insist on this plot device, why not just go ahead and have an LSD induced musical episode already…

  • Cara

I kind of already assumed he has a major health crisis coming, that the hallucinations he’s been having are already tied to it, and that the sex will probably be tied to that as well.
Mixed feelings about Brennan wanting a child. She used to be pretty adamant about not wanting them, but my mom swears the biological clock starts ticking and changes everything, so we’ll see.

  • Modwild

Huh? Brennan wants a baby? Where the hell did that come from? It’s so out of character that I can’t get past that to even imagine what kind of health issue Booth has…prostate cancer, rickety back bones, noggin nuisance? Who cares – he’s not going anywhere, but Brennan wants a baby? WTF?

  • Nick

The sex has got to be part of the hallucination. I wish it weren’t but that is just too big of a spoiler to be taken at face value. Seriously, if you were a producer would you really want to give away the second biggest event to ever happen on your show (1st being the Zach reveal) a couple of months before it airs?

  • phillyphilly

Wow. Just…wow. This is the worst thing I’ve ever heard. The writers have been feeding us crap episodes this whole season, and they expect us to believe in them? Oh and Veronica, this show jumped shark with s3’s season finale and BB going to London in the premiere.

  • Kelly

Okay, so have I missed the big “Brennan Wants a Baby” episode? I’m so confused. And really, I don’t buy her wanting a kid. Maybe taking in a foster child…they’ve shown her connection to foster kids in the past. But an actual baby? What?

  • ashley

didn’t bones interact with the teddy parker ghost or whatever in the grave yard at the end of that episode? so he can’t just be in booth’s head.
and the writers are really going to have to sell bones’ change in opinion on bringing children into th world for any of us to buy it.
