Here are two more reasons Fox’s upcoming musicomedy, Glee, has us overjoyed: Kristin Chenoweth and Victor Garber are joining the cast in what will likely turn out to be recurring roles!
Wicked alum Chenoweth, who showed off her awesome pipes on the late, great Pushing Daisies, will play a part that’s as top secret as it is hilarious. (Sorry, that’s all you’re getting out of me.) Fellow Broadway vet Garber (Sweeney Todd) will play the father of Glee’s leading man, Hairspray hunk Matthew Morrison. (Tony winner Debra Monk is his mom.)
Even before this latest bit of casting was announced, the positive buzz surrounding the project — which centers on the worst high school glee club in America — only seemed to grow louder with each passing day. With good reason, too. The extended trailer Fox showed us at press tour in January was so good it gave me chills, and the lucky few who have seen the pilot have been effusive with their praise. (In the new issue of EW, our own Ken Tucker calls the debut “witty and high-spirited” and a potential “sleeper hit.”)
Luckily, Fox seems to know it has something special on its hands. Rumor has it the network may launch the show this May after American Idol.
‘Til then, and probably beyond then, producer Ryan Murphy (whose Popular musical episode remains a kooky triumph) will just have to deal with music-lovin’ actors chasing him down wherever he goes. Says an insider: “They’re literally banging down his door to be on this show.”

I’ll watch anything Kristen Chenoweth does as long as she’s singing in it too. RIP Pushing Daisies.
Um, Chenoweth, Debra Monk AND Spy!Daddy/Victor Garber? FOX, you may cure my broken ‘Daisies’ heart…
I sure hope we get to see Chenoweth/Monk/Garber together onscreen.
Garber and Chenoweth? Monk? Morrison? BROADWAY-GASM!
phew…ok, done. Sounds like this show is gonna be the next Pushing Daisies – loved by fans and critics, and then lost tragically. I’ll be there for the debut, though.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I really really wanna be wrong about that! Looking forward to the show.
All is right in the TV World. I will miss Eli Stone but as long as Victor Garber is still on my TV, I will be okay.
I love Kristen Chenoweth and can’t wait to see this. But how can she do this and that new David E. Kelley legal drama at the same time?
I love these actors and I’ll probably watch Glee–until it’s cancelled. Musicals do not fair well with primetime audiences.
I miss Eli Stone (<case in point) but it will be good to see Garber in his new role. We'll see how long it's on.
I’m so stoked! I heart you Victor Garber!! (and you too Kristin, just not as much)
Whoa man. Best news ever! I love me some Cheno, Garber, Monk and Morrison. This sounds like a promising show! I’ll be there for the pilot.
But this is FOX, right? “Punish the quirky and bury them quickly” FOX. I’ll look forward to the partial season DVD release in the fall.
I will watch anything with Kristin Chenoweth in it – can’t wait to see the premiere!
Spring Awakening’s Lea Michele is on this show, too. I’m quite excited for a musical TV show, with a bunch of my favorite Broadway peoples.
Sounds great. Which means it doesn’t stand a chance of survival.
HO…
LY….
CRAP!!!
This show keeps getting better and better! First Matthew Morrison, then a few other Broadway luminaries, now Cheno!! I CAN’T FREAKIN’ WAIT FOR THIS!
Sounds like it’s right up my alley…I just hope it doesn’t go the way of “Pushing Daisies”!

I pray to God this show does well, but shows usually with a musical vibe don’t last very long, no matter how good it is. I love who they’ve cast already, and I can’t wait to see the pilot!
Oh. My. God. I can’t wait!
I am so excited for this show.
The cast is made of all-stars and I really hope the execution comes out the way it sounds.
It would be funny if they rename her character to Charlie. lol
Jane Lynch is in it, too! I’m also noticing a trend of ex-Heroes cast members…in addition to Jayma Mays, Jessalyn Gilsig and Stephen Tobolowsky are also in the show. Interesting. At least I know that Jessalyn can sing–I stage managed her in a show while we were in university in Montreal. She has a nice voice.
I’m excited for this show, because I love Jayma Mays (she so deserves a big leading role!) and I liked the pilot script when I read it. Having Victor Garber and Kristin Chenoweth joining for recurring parts is just the icing on the cake.
Argh, but I still see this probably being cancelled, along with my favorite Dollhouse ever.

Translation: It’ll be awesomely quirky and most likely calcelled within a season.
A glee club? Seriously?
Too bad it’ll be cancelled within a month.
Oops, sorry for the multiple posts. I got some server error, and every time I went back it must have re-posted. Once again, I am victim to the lack of editing capabilities.
Sounds like that “Skippy Pylon” thing that Chenoweth was going to be doing for David E. Kelly isn’t gonna happen. Yay!
Cheno , back on my tv..singing!!!!
::passes out::
I’ll watch anything with the Cheno in it!! She is more than fabulous and this show might turn out to be next season’s Pushing Daisies. Critics’ darling, totally awesome and will probably end up cancelled for being too quirky thus not appealing to the Dancing with the stars and American Idol crowd.
But I’ll be watching and hoping.
Garber and Chenoweth? I’m weeping tears of joy. I’ve seen the extended trailer and LOVED it. It had me smiling and singing for hours! If the show is on after American Idol, I think it will do better than people think. If the content stays “family friendly” enough, teen age girls and their parents will eat it up.
Wasn’t Chenowith supposed to be part of David Kelley’s new father daughter legal show? I thought I heard that… What happened?
