A week after I floated the idea of Brittany Snow playing a young Lily in The CW’s forthcoming Gossip Girl spin-off, the former American Dreams ingénue has emerged as the front-runner for the role! This Just in: Her deal has closed! It’s official!
It’s Emily VanCamp all over again!
The GG offshoot will be set in Los Angeles and chronicle the teen years of Kelly Rutherford’s alter ego.
Snow joins a cast that includes Krysten Ritter (as Lily’s older sis) and Jericho’s Shilo Fernandez (as brooding valley punk).
The backdoor pilot will air May 11 as part of a regular Gossip Girl episode. The show is considered a lock to land on The CW’s fall schedule.
In conclusion, I have this message for Snow’s agent: At least half of that 10 percent commission is mine, mine, mine! (But I’ll settle for a third.)

Can’t wait. Although it will be hard to watch knowing that whatever happens, we know how she grows up.

I’m not sure I can see her pulling off haughty Lily that well, she seems too girl next door. I still think they should have looked into Sarah Roemer or Amber Heard…
This is great news! I have missed Brittany Snow since American Dreams ended. And I never imagined it, but how hot does she look as a brunette?!? Our little Meg is all grown up. *sniff*

I think she’s a wonderful actress and she adds credibility to this spinoff! At least she’s graduated from the 60s to the 80s!
Hopefully her series will be so wildly popular that everything post-season-one of American Dreams will be released on DVD! I still consider its cancellation among the top five mistakes NBC has ever made!

I miss american dreams so much, Brittany Snow is such a wonderful actress with good morals. Gossip girls is trite.

This actually upsets me. I think Brittany Snow is better than this kind of teen soap show. I loved her in American Dreams, and while this new show may increase her popularity, it’s too soapy and I’d rather see her in something else. (hint: NBC, please bring back American Dreams!)
LOVE her! I’m excited that she has a high-profile role to potentially bring her more success. And I want AD seasons 2 and 3 released on dvd, too, but you guys know you can watch them online, right?
American Dreams was too small a platform for the talents of BS. Granted John Tucker Must Die wasn’t the smash hit it should have been but give her the right platform and she’ll be bigger than Miley Cyrus
In my opinion she is a terrific little actress and way more talented than this role offers-maybe she needs the work. Sure miss American Dreams-BIG mistake to cancel this series.Wish her luck.
As much as I love Britney(dating back to her days on Guiding Light) this spinoff sounds so stupid IMO. But I’ll try and keep an open mind.
As selfish as it may be, I am a little sad at this development. I vowed to boycott the CW for all of eternity when “Everwood” wasn’t renewed, and if this casting becomes official, it will be a moral dilemma: continue my boycott, or support Brittany Snow (who I love). hmmm….
I’m happy that she’s just working. lol. Just to see her face on TV is enough. She’s truly talented. p.s. I so miss “American Dreams”. Why NBC chose to cancel that show prematurely is beyond me. Sam and Meg forever!
gracious, this is an excellent step towards greatness. both herself and krysten ritter are excellent comidenes – which this show is going to need. am definitely excited now.
Such garbage; the entire The CW network and GG. The show’s just smoke and mirrors. ALL buzz, no substance, no ratings. Oh, ((I)) get it… they’re thinking if they can combine the ratings of an eppy of GG and eppy of this, they MAY crack the 3 million mark. Ugh, epic fail. ‘90210′ ratings have done nothing but go DOWN and even THEY are doing an unncessary spinoff (stupid ‘Melrose Place’).

The question I have is if this series will be of Lily like in the 80s or will it be in the present?..It would be cool that it would be like GG in fashion and tech.

michael, love your column but you’re full of crap. you had nothing to do with this. i hate it when someone tries to take credit for another person’s work. brittany had the offer as much as three weeks ago. well before you mentioned her and you only did so because you knew she had the offer already.

i love this! so much more excited now to watch if she gets the part. i was a fan of hers back when she was on guiding light, and am happy to see her all grown up and doing well.
I never saw what was the big deal with her. She’s a so-so actress. I guess she’ll fit perfectly on that show.
