Looks like Callie’s new girlfriend is a keeper!
Grey’s Anatomy has signed Sara Ramirez’s latest lesbian crush, Jessica Capshaw, to a contract, sources confirm to me exclusively. The deal calls for the actress to appear in all remaining episodes this season with an option to return as a series regular next fall.
The ex-Practice star joined Grey’s last month as Seattle Grace pediatrician Arizona Robbins. Although she was initially signed for only three episodes, the possibility existed that it could turn into something more permanent.
News of Capshaw’s promotion should silence critics who sounded the anti-gay alarm after ABC kindly asked Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes to banish Callie’s first girlfriend, the brusque and ballsy Dr. Hahn (played by Brooke Smith), to the hospital’s parking lot. “The character was not working for us and the relationship was not working for us,” Alphabet prez Steve McPherson acknowledged last month at press tour.
Still, though McPherson seems to be having no such reservations about Hahn’s kinder, perkier successor, Arizona may want to go with valet over self-parking for the time being. You know, just to be safe.
What do you think? Is Capshaw clicking? You a fan of Callie and Arizona (Callizona?)? Or are you still carrying a torch for Callica? Sound off below!

I love her, I think she’s a great addition to the show. I think they have great chemistry.
What the hell? really? I love Callie, but this is not the girl for her. Dumb to keep her around. Another stupid move Shonda…
Can’t get into this pairing because of how they treated Brooke Smith and the character of Erica Hahn.
Am i the only one who doesn’t buy Callie as a lesbian?
YEAY ! I am happy to read this. I like the storyline/relationship with Callie and her new galpal . Sara Ramirez deserves more face time, on the show, in my opinion.
She’s a good character. Very believable. But then again, so was Hahn, even if I always rooted for Cristina to let her have it.
Hahn was awful with Callie and unrootworthy character. I agree with ABC for dropping her. Arizona has potential as a character and a love interest for Callie. So good move Grey’s. Although is Owen a series regular yet?
Gah! What the frak Grey’s? The show needs FEWER characters, not more.
I love Arizona!! Very happy she’s staying. Its nice to see a generally happy hospital member in a show of mostly depressing/depressed people.
there is NO chemistry at all between Callie & Arizona. I don’t know if it is the writing or the actress but the character of Arizona is very flat with no real anything. But of course she works for ABC – she is cute and conforms to some unrealistic standard of beauty. Erica was tough and not so soft which is what I loved about her. She and Callie had amazing chemistry. Sucks!!! I still think Sara Ramirez deserves so much better than she is getting on the show. Come home to NYC Sara……
“silence critics who sounded the anti-gay alarm” – sorry my alarm is still blaring… i see this as ABC trying to backpedal.
What the F*UCK?? MORE NEW CHARACTERS?
Gawd no. This show needs LESS people not MORE
She’s been growing on me for sure. I think she has potential once she’s fleshed out more.
how many sharks can 1 show jump? is shonda rhimes listening to the critics AT ALL about the cast size?
Love her
Hate Callie as a Lesbian
HATE more cast members
So is that 400 regulars now?
if izzie and george are really leaving i would love to see her as a regular
I really don’t like Arizona, but even if I did, I’ll never get over what happened with Erica. It was horrible writing, but worse than that, it was really, really rude to Brooke Smith. How do you think she feels now, seeing all these random lesbians being thrown at Callie, when her character actually had chemistry and a story with her? UGH.
That makes it:
Meredith
Derek
Alex
Izzy
George
Lexie
Mark
Bailey
Richard
Owen
Cristina
Callie
Arizona
Do I have the 295 castmembers right?
I like the character of Callie, but I just do not buy her as a lesbian. She really just works well with Mark, that’s who they should pair her with. I do not buy Mark with Lexie, time to send Lexie somewhere else.
Thrilling.Rather than get rid of the current dead weight more is added; as if this show needs a character even more annoying than Sydney Heron.
I like Arizona and I like the direction she and Callie are heading. However, I loved Callica, and I wish ABC had handled it better. Erica was really growing on me (her “You are glasses” speech was what finally officially won me over), and I miss her no-nonsense personality, which was a perfect counter-balance to all the goofiness going on with the other doctors.
*shakes head* less cast not MORE cast. They need to lose the dead weight not add more to it.
I like Arizona, so I’m happy about this. I’m not sure about her relationship with Callie. I don’t think I buy Callie as a lesbian but I’ll give it a chance.
I like Arizona but I don’t buy Callie as a lesbian or want another regular. Arizona should be recurring, on every now and then for a peds case and that’s it.
Arizona should be recurring, and Callie should be put on recurring.
YES!! I love Capshaw’s Arizona. And I think she and Sara have great chemistry…their relationship just needs some fleshing out and time to develop. Ramirez is very open to playing a lesbian (although I’m still sticking to the bisexual-ness of Callie..or, Calliope) and given time, these two could rock…if people can be open-minded about it. I’m way on board the Calzona train!!
What the HELL? They insist on sending Grey’sAnatomy down the gutter don’t they?
Here’s an idea…get rid of Callie. Then we don’t have to worry about the lesbian flavor-of-the-month. If I want to watch lesbians, I’ll catch The L Word…but Queer as Folk had the best lesbians. Stop force-feeding this story, already.
