One would think the stench from Grey’s Anatomy’s much-maligned afterlife love story between Denny and Izzie would’ve scared all the ghosts away from primetime for good.
But one might be wrong.
The producers of House are engaged in preliminary talks with Anne Dudek — a.k.a. Wilson’s deceased girlfriend, Amber/Cutthroat Bitch — about returning later this season, sources confirm to me exclusively.
As who? Or, better yet, what? That’s the $1 million question.
“I can confirm that we loved Anne, and I can confirm that we loved the character of Amber,” responds executive producer Katie Jacobs. “But I cannot confirm that [she] is coming back.”
But Jacobs also can’t deny it, which brings us to the other $1 million question: Is House planning to take a page from Grey’s Anatomy’s loopy medical journal and have Wilson start spooning his dead ex-girlfriend’s ghost?
Not on your life, insists series creator David Shore (who, for the record, also isn’t denying Dudek’s return).
“It would never be a dead ghost sex love triangle thing like on [Grey's],” he says. Adds Jacobs: “That is a situation where we cannot just do whatever and expect the fans to accept it. I think that would make a large [number] of people switch off their TVs. I think if we tried that, heads would roll.
“But,” Jacobs continues, “if we could figure out a way to bring her back that is not a ghost sex plot, we’d be thrilled to do it and have her back.”
Let’s pretend for a second that Shore and Jacobs aren’t already concocting such a story (tee-hee), let me ask you: Would you be open to the idea of Amber returning to House — provided she doesn’t have to jump over any sharks to get there? (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! DO NOT BRING AMBER BACK UNLESS IT’S A FLASHBACK! I do not want to see a twin sister either!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!
Nooooooo!!!!!! Don’t ruin what was a great storyline and episode!!!! Let her rest in peace!!!
No. No. No.
Seeing as the creators of House probably haven’t completely lost their minds, I’d say she’s probably coming back in a dream/hallucination.
I would LOVE a “life that never was” type episode, looking at all the characters. Wilson married to Amber, with kids. House never had the infarction. Cuddy had a baby in her 20s. Foreman never got the juvie record; Chase stayed in Australia; Cameron’s husband didn’t die. Kutner’s parents lived; Taub attempted suicide in med school; Thirteen didn’t have Huntingtons.
Seeing as the creators of House probably haven’t completely lost their minds, I’d say she’s probably coming back in a dream/hallucination.
No ghosts or dreams please! Flashbacks are fine and hallucinations are iffy…depends on the reason (no brain tumor)
basically, if the writers can find not only a non-jump-the-shark way but a GOOD way, then i’d be happy to see her come back.
did that make sense? ive had a long day…
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Is this april’s fools yet?
David Shore and Katie Jacobs seem to be infinitely more self-aware than Shonda Rhimes.
This is so going to be a Wilson dream. or a House hallucination.
Although, seeing the direction the writers have been taking lately, maybe Thirteen will get a brain tumor and start having sex with her.
Now come on guys, consider the great episodes like three stories, the mistake, without reason, and (even the episodes she went out on)house’s head, wilson’s heart. House has done a great job on their abstract episodes without being weird or jumping the proverbial shark. I for on want to see amber back as much as possible and trust the producers and writers to do a great and tastiful job of it.
Oh, how quickly we forget about the standard bring-back-an-ex-cast-member-via-flashback approach in this post-Grey’s world.
Sounds like they’re pulling an ER to me.
I love Anne Dudek, but unless Wilson or House has some sort of dream (and actual sleeping dream, not a waking dream) where she plays a role, then I don’t think it would work. Obviously, she can play a role in House’s sub-conscious, just like she did in the eps, House’s Brain and Wilson’s heart, but nothing more that that, please.
How about we let her character on Mad Men get a little bit more fleshed out instead. I’d love to see more of Francine!!
“I think that would make a large [number] of people switch off their TVs”
Oooh, too late for that, Katie!
i think it’s good if they are doing flashbacks…that’s the only good reason i can think of
see they’re probably planning this big dream episode where anything goes. i bet this will be the same episode where house and cuddy have sex.
OMG this is ridiculous! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just have Wilson meet someone new if they want him to have a love interest. NO GHOST or TWINS PLEASE!
This is not a good idea. AT ALL!
Zombie-Amber?! So we’re going from House-Grey’s Anatomy version to House Supernatural version?! LOL
see they’re probably planning this big dream episode where anything goes. i bet this will be the same episode where house and cuddy have sex.
-> yeah, with Cuddy dreaming of it LOL
Maybe Amber’s death and this whole season has been a dream. How cool would it be if House had been in a coma this whole time as a result of the accident and none of this had happened?
“…we cannot just do whatever and expect the fans to accept it. I think that would make a large [number] of people switch off their TVs. I think if we tried that, heads would roll.” And yet, there has been many fans shaking their heads at the ridiculousness of the lack of Cameron and Chase on the show, mostly using them as extras and they don’t seem to notice or care. If they continue to treat these actors like extras, then I’m going to just start switching off my TV. So honestly, a ghostly Amber is better than no Cameron and Chase.
Its simple……TWIN!
I don’t know Amber’s backstory, but did it ever state she was an only child? If it did, simple solution – she was adopted and her sister tracked her down to her last known location, which was at the hospital….At first Wilson (and even House) think they are seeing a ghost, haunted if you will, but then they learn the truth. Then this is where it gets wierd – Amber’s twin, who also went to medical school, is just like Wilson. BUT Wilson does not feel the spark he had for Amber – actually he is surprised how detached he feels about her – showing he has gotten over Amber’s death. At the same time, House feels strangely attracted to DoppleAMber, which throws another wrench into Huddy.
Sure, does it feel like they jumped the shark – MAYBE, but I am sure they could write it so the lameness would be pushed to the recesses. ‘Sides, I find it much better than any dream sequences
So to add, I’d say that it’s clear that they feel they are able to do “whatever” and expect that the fans will take it. We’ve been taking the lack of Chase and Cameron haven’t we? So why not a ghostly Amber? Maybe like House, they are testing us to see how much we as fans will let them get away with. And somehow we keep turning up like Cameron, saying yes, just because it’s the writers and producers of House.
I love both Amber and AD! I just hope that, if TPTB bring her back, they do so in a way that seems organic to House MD. Flashbacks are fine. Dreams are iffy but okay if done well. Zombies and brain tumor-induced hallucinations I’ll take a pass on, though.
Oh I sooooo hope not. I thought she was a horrid actress, i despised the character and was actually quite glad they knocked her poor imitation (all the bad qualities of House without the intelligence and other good qualities) of House character off because I would not have to be subjected to that terrible character again. I think I would definitely switch off the TV if I had to see one more sickening scene with her in it. Sorry, I’m sure the actress herself is a lovely individual, I just personally don’t think she could act her way out of a paper bag.
My two cents.
I’d say it could be awesome, if it’s handled in a way that’s true to the show thus far. The most likely way of doing this would be to make it part of a dream or hallucination sequence, which would be cool. The twin thing is also a possibility, as long as it doesn’t get too complicated and contrived. But it *could* be good. I personally would love to see Anne Dudek return.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO I didn’t like Amber and I never did. Pleeeeeeeaaaaase don’t bring her back! I just want Wilson to move on and have things like the old days when House and Wilson got along like old buddies and nothing between them like CB.
the question is WHY?
after she was actually kicked out because she didnt get the job she was already reinvited by playing wilsons girlfriend -> BAD IDEA
now this? I rather want to see more about the original 3
NO!!! GOD PLEASE NO!!!
AS MUCH AS I LOVE AMBER THIS IS SUCH A BAD IDEA.
