Scoop: 'Lost' casting a new Sayid!

Dec 1, 2008, 06:40 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Lostnaveenandrews_l Oh, don't get your knickers in a knot! Naveen Andrews isn't leaving Lost. However, if my hunch is correct, in this season's 10th episode -- a Sayid-centric outing that starts shooting later this week -- a new actor will be playing his part.

"Whatchutalkinbout', Willis?" you say?

Follow along now: A casting call has gone out for the roles of a father and his 12- and 8-year-old sons, all of whom, I'm told, will have to be fluent in Arabic. So wouldn't a logical assumption be that the hotheaded dad is Sayid's pop and the older boy, a sensitive type who's painfully aware that he lets down his formidable paterfamilias, is the future assassin himself?

That's what I thought, too! The hour promises to be a real crusher, with Dad teaching his elder son the kind of lesson in manhood that I suspect inflicts lifelong emotional scars.

Are you ready for Sayid's untold story to be told? Or are you afraid that it will be so intense, it'll qualify as must-wince TV? Comment away below! (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

I freaking can't wait for anything Sayid related! Naveen's a terrific actor and his story has always been fascinating. The fact he's one of the sexiest men around doesn't hurt either. :D My hope for Sayid's character is that he gets a happy ending - him and Desmond. Well, actually everyone! I want it to work out for all our Losties!

To Helen Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

Are you kidding? I live in NYC - do you have any idea how film crews disrupt normal life around here? Parochial nutjob! As a New Yorker, take my advice: pull down your pants, and slide on the ice!

Or the palm fronds, ya hick!

Helen from Hawai'i Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

In addition, the actors are spoiled brats consistently driving DUI or getting into assaults.

good riddance. We'd rather have Magnum back. At least the actors were gentlemen and the filming crew wasn't so invasive.

Helen from Hawai'i Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

I hate "Lost." Everytime I try to go to a favorite site here on island (Honolulu), the filming company takes up to two days to film a two minute scene and we can't get close to our favorite spots.

I wish they would film on a real deserted island like Kaho'alwe here..a truly deserted island in Hawai'i instead of ten minutes from Waikiki and the business district.
What a hokey show.

jm Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

WHAT????!!! Boring, this show is not! Surprising, interesting, intelligent... I can't wait for its return.

Deborah Clark Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 12:08 AM EST

Lost has become so boring it's hardly worth watching anymore. All the original storylines have been either dropped or changed. It should end now, not in two more seasons.

Mary Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:39 PM EST

Check out the season 5 cast photo from TV.com. I hadn't seen it before and Jin isn't included. I hadn't seen that it was confirmed he had died. Any thoughts?

When Eko got to Hawaii he realized quickly he didn't like living there. Darlton says that they had big plans for Eko, as he was going to challenge Locke for the spiritual leadership of the Island. Adewale just wanted out. I think he'll be back though

aurore Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 12:29 PM EST

Sayid's one of the hottest men in prime time...background on the babe? I'm all for it! Bring it on, pour me a martini.

gigi Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

Darn you Ausiello!! I had one hand clenched to my chest and the other dialing 9-1-1 for my coranary I was about to have...

Good info...can't wait til Jan. 21st!

The first sneak peek clip of LOST's season 5 premiere episode "Because You Left" is available. http://www.hd-trailers.org/2008/12/a-sneak-peek-at-losts-season-premiere/

Ausiello needs a flaming bag of poop on his doorstep.

Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

I agree with Lucas. Recently an article mentioned an upcoming illness of a character--who shall remain nameless-coming in March on Bros & Sisters. I watched the show this past Sunday night....it totally ruined it for me. If these "spoilers" do have some truth to them, they should not be published.

Lucas Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

hmm. where to start.
1. there's no link to the casting calls because LostBlog ain't an official source and even if the info is correct likely doesn't have approval to post it (there's a reason why casting calls are behind a password)
2. there can still be history involving Charlie shown despite his death. that's why it is History.
3. eko is dead because the actor wanted out. sorry but it's true.
4. and most folks will want to shoot me for this, but I wish that these spoilers wouldn't be posted. about any show. respect that the writers don't want every last detail out there before it airs. if they official say something sure, but these games of reading call sheets and casting breakdowns etc. so not cricket. why not just have someone sneak on set and steal the script and give us the exact story. this isn't much better

PGP Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM EST

I think it is the perfect time to explore this! Lost having only what two more seasons left, it is time to see some background and exploration into what made our characters the way that they are now! On top of it all perhaps Naveen Andrews will get some much needed attention as he is one of the overlooked originals! Maybe an emmy nod will go his way this season...who knows?

jdwaway Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:30 PM EST

To Jill: only if you didn't see "O' Brother Where Art Thou"

jacob Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

Sayid is awesome, as is every single other character on this awesome show. Why do we only get 17 episodes per season!! I could have spent an entire season with Michael on that freighter. I felt like there was more to tell with him and wanted to see him reunite with the other castaways he betrayed. Oh well, this show rocks!

MaryUtah Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 10:12 AM EST

Yeah, more info about LOST the better - I miss it! I love Sayid's character, and thanks for you folks posting the new trailers - makes me more excited for January!

Who do you think the person is with Locke?

Amanda Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 06:00 AM EST

I don't know why Ausiello does not like to the actual calls? But here they are for that want to see them

DJ Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 02:29 AM EST

I would love to see 8-year-old Sayid break someone's neck with his legs.

Looking forward to the flashback!

Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:40 AM EST

now that sawyer and sayid are apart no more funny nicknames for sayid!
sad :(

Nick B Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:30 AM EST

And I miss Mr. Eko too.

My problem with this is that if he was so integral to the show, why didn't we get a little more story on him earlier? And if you kill off charlie because you can't think of any more story lines for him that tie, shouldn't they have kept in mind Charlie's from England, so's Widmore, Des is next door in Scotland. Charlie could have had a bit more history that showed or tied in either of them or even Hawking.

I just don't know what's really going to be gained by seeing Sayid as a kid. We get it. The losties have parent issues.

Nick B Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:26 AM EST

No, not more Sayid the better. Don't get me wrong, he plays a good part, but the writers have mishandled him. That whole Shannon debacle? I don't need to see him as a little kid.

If we're going to see anyone as little kid again, let it be Ben, or Jack or Locke or someone else that Richard or Abbadon pops up on. Faraday or Miles would be nice.

Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:31 PM EST

looks like Rainbow fell for the author's trick. Sheesh. Someone needs to calm down.

Phil Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

The Basra Incident?

bootsycolumbia Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:49 PM EST

"Are you afraid it will be so intense, it'll qualify as must-wince tv?" That honor goes to Mr. Eko's first flashback, when he sacrificed himself and turned into a warlord to protect his little brother. I still miss Mr. Eko.

Michelle Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:30 PM EST

Awesome! More Sayid the better!

Jack Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:46 PM EST

Please, for the love of god, bring back Doc Jensen.

Meg Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

Oh Sayid, why? Can't we have at least one character on Lost who DOESN'T have daddy issues?

J.S. Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

From your headline that's all I expected... I know LOST too well.

Amy Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

Sayid is fine (but enough of Jack, please!)... however, I still want more of BEN . Preferably after the Purge

Sobi Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

YESSSS - I love Sayid and am looking forward to seeing this episode. The premiere can't come soon enough.

Rainbow Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:46 PM EST

Whoever writes the titles for these posts is an idiot. WE GET IT, you like to mislead your readers so they leave cute little comments like "OMG don't scare me like that!" and "Not funny! It took 5 minutes of breathing into a paper bag after reading your blog to calm down". Eventually even the lesser-minded readers are going to catch on to the trick you use every.single.time.

Jill Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:34 PM EST

Is it ok that i had to look up paterfamilias?

mario Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

OMG i cant wait!!!!

you know what i think season 5 will be sooo amazing and yet so sad cuz its the penultimate season to concluding an amazing story.

*cries* "Taste the happy..."

Dr. No Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:16 PM EST

I read that Sayid's dad will be in a flashback, but also SAYID'S SON.........

Annie Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:12 PM EST

It's just so hard to believe that a character on LOST turns out to have daddy issues.

Anne Marie Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:04 PM EST

Not funny! It took 5 minutes of breathing into a paper bag after reading your blog to calm down. I can't wait to see more of Sayid's history!!!

Carlos Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 06:51 PM EST

Don't you EVER do that again with a "Lost" story, you idiot! Do it with any other show, not this one.

Caro Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 06:47 PM EST

Great. Sayid is my favorite character after Jack and Locke. I agree that this may be a flashback to Sayid's childhood. Another father-son drama. Long live Sayid
