NBC Sked Scoop: 'Medium' returns, 'ER' ends, 'Knight Rider' trimmed, and more!

Theofficeer_l NBC has just unveiled their mid-season plan of attack. Highlights are below:

•    An hour-long episode of The Office will follow the network's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIII on Feb. 1.
•    The series finale of ER airs March 12.
•    Much-buzzed-about-by-me drama Kings takes over ER's Thursday,10 p.m./ET slot beginning March 19.
•    Heroes' latest volume, "Fugitives," kicks off Feb. 2 at 9 p.m./ET. Chuck will remain at 8 p.m./ET.
•    Medium returns to Mondays at 10 p.m./ET beginning Feb. 2.
•    Low ratings have prompted NBC to trim Knight Rider's order from 21 episodes to 17. As a result, the show's season (and possible series) finale will be broadcast Feb. 25.
•    Celebrity Apprentice will air in two-hour chunks beginning Sunday, March 1.

Any questions?

K Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 02:04 AM EST

okay, so is Medium returning on Mondays or Sundays?? I've been trying to determine this for hours now and all I can seem to find is message board postings and comments, but they all say two different things. Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

I think NBC (and channels of its kind) must face the great danger of loosing a great percentage of their audience, in order to put their brains in their heads! They keep on growing new reality shows and other junkies and they don't make some serious work with series (like Knight Rider) that is embedded to the back of the mind of millions of people all over the world and as well to the American TV history? Why don't they spend some bucks to make a fine promotion for the show and to catch the eyes of all that people who used to be fans of the original series, but they don't know they can view the resumption of that show? I think I know why!! Because they care more about the easy profit and less about the feeling, the idea and the idol that every show passes to its audience! And that's very bad...!!

Joshua Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:42 AM EST

It is serious BULL to be cutting Knight Rider. I have watched since day 1 and the show is absolutely amazing! Its THE only reason I turn on the TV!

Fred Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

Knight Rider the my first show since Seinfeld that I make sure I tune to NBC to watch it would be ashame to see it go.

kimosabe Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 11:24 AM EST

I just relized something... NBC is stoopid...They should find a way to run the old knight riders series so it can recapture a new and old fan base... Im sure they own more than just one channel

kimosabe Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 11:14 AM EST

If they pull knight rider from NBC I hope Spike or SciFi will pick it up ... This is a fun show and would be a waste to scrap. Greedy CEO's ...

Aron MacEachern Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 08:38 AM EST

The original Knight Rider was targeted at kids. It's return kinda allows parents to watch it with their kids and share in the fun. The Knight Rider first season new and old were also ads for the Trans Am and Mustang. Maybe Ford is pulling support and that will kill the show.

Josh Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 08:18 AM EST

Friday Night Lights, Knight Rider... If you don't like a show on NBC just get me interested in watching it and it'll get canceled, or moved to a dish system that I don't subscribe to.

Riley Hen Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 06:46 PM EST

ARe the people that are raving about Knight Rider under the age of 20?
Come on people. This is not a good show and its not remotely fun to watch unless you are turning in for the boobs.

Mikey M Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 06:44 PM EST

...and Jounryeman is still gone.
Thanks NBC. At least they finally got some sense about Knight Rider which never should have made series in the first place.

wendy Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

BLERG, BLERG, 2 hour chunks of Celebrity app. NO THANKS.

Nitesh Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

Knight Rider Is On longer then Pushing Daisies Because Knight Rider Is an "American Icon" And The Show Rockssssss

Ace Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 09:32 AM EST

I'm with Lisa...I can't belive Knight Rider got a longer order than Pushing Daisies. I don't care if you guys complain about us being on a high horse. I'll take quality over mindlessness any day of the week.

Also, more Celebrity Apprentice? Really?? That show just needs to die already.

Ryan Williams Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 08:18 AM EST

Can't wait for Kings!

Mouse Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 04:50 AM EST

Keep Knight Rider!!! Sure the acting needs work, but who watches it for the acting/people?? Its all about Kitt baby!!!

mrsmarylo Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 01:16 AM EST

Knight Rider should not be cancelled as it has a great plot and fun characters. Keep it going NBC.

Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

Knight rider shouldnt be cancelled. It is a good show and the mustang is badass

David4 Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:36 PM EST

One question...

Why the hell is the Super Bowl on NBC this year? Useless station shouldn't get the biggest thing of the year.

KS Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

This just in from syfyportal.com Knight Rider has been canceled. Guess I have to give up my 5 bucks. BOOO NBC

Ashley Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 09:22 PM EST

lol what took nbc so long to put knight rider & low ratings together?

brett Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

come on nbc leave knight rider on its my show i beleive in the show and i thank its one of the better shows on so cont. to air it and keep bringing it back for many more seasons it doesnt need to be canceled

tom Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:34 PM EST

i think that it is wrong that they are takeing off knight rider because it is bad ass!

john Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 07:51 PM EST

i look forward every week to seeing the new episode of knightrider and i am pissed that for the last two weeks i haven't been able to watch it due to some other dumb shows. i own a mustang just like the one on the show and i, well i just enjoy it..........

Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 06:44 PM EST

Not really

CVisca Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 06:03 PM EST

Am I the only one that noticed that they skipped an episode of DirtySexyMoney last week?

Justin Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:42 PM EST

I could care less about the other shows...I watch TV to get away from reality, and as a car nut, Knight Rider is the only show that matters. Acting? Ok, not stellar, but more bearable than the original. I like the main characters, and KITT is just badass! NBC wake up!

Joe Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:15 PM EST

Thank you Aus for the Kings hype. Please keep it up b/c the concept of the show sounds great and it is the new show i'm the most excited about!!!!

Kyle Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

At least the shows on Thursday night before ER are still good!!!

MrsJ Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

I am totally disappointed that they are ending the ER season early. The least we deserve is a full season for the final one, especially after last year with the writer's strike. I have been with the show since it began and am really bummed about this.

Also, dismayed that they are thinking about shelfing Night Rider. I never watched the original (David H - gag,) but this one is really cool. Who wouldn't want a hot car that can morph into whatever it wants! I was a skeptic and I love the show. Plus the romantic chemistry on that show is great!!

Sharon Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:33 PM EST

I'm very upset that ER is finishing early!! Why can't NBC keep it on for May sweeps? It's been on the air for 14 years, this is a big deal, not something that should be swept under the carpet!! Not happy at all!!

Pythagorus Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

Lisa, some people actually enjoy Knight Rider don't be ignorant with your mine is better than yours opinion. Pushing Daisies is obviously on the way out because not enough people aren't watching it has NOTHING to do with Knight Rider, which does what it does best, complete hokum. Now enough with the bitterness towards Knight Rider and try actually doing something positive to possibly save the show you love and not malign the ones you hate.

Diane Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

I think we need more higher up women executives at all the major networks. They are getting rid of a lot of shows that have a big female audience for shows like knight rider which has a mostly male audience. I think there are enough shows devoted to men on the air.

rosyjohanna Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:33 AM EST

Where is Friday Night Lights in the line up? I thought it was returning to NBC in January after it's run on Direct TV.

Lisa Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:19 AM EST

I have one question:

How the heck did Knight Rider stay on the air longer than Pushing Daisies! That just seems wrong somehow.

Kristina Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 09:17 AM EST

Do we really need more Celebrity Apprentice? Who watches that? Couldn't they put in two decent hour long shows instead? C'mon NBC... and they wonder why they are no longer the leaders of primetime television.

bootsycolumbia Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:53 AM EST

Any word on whether Life will stick around? I love that show. Last night's episode was terrific.

T.T Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:36 AM EST

yet another quality show (knight rider) that has been ignored by the american public

pino Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:49 AM EST

I really liked knight rider. the first 5 shows where kinda of corny but after that i thought it got better. I will miss the show if its get canceled.

Matt2 Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:49 AM EST

A two hour block of Celebrity Apprentice up against ABC's Sunday night power lineup sounds almost as bad as the poorly conceived Rosie Live variety show. One smart move they did make was cut that Knight Rider order down to seventeen. That was so bad I only had to watch it once to say enough.

Lou Sytsma Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 10:37 PM EST

The Chuck 3D episode is 2.13. When is episode 2.12 going to air? In December or after 21.3 in Feb?

john ruggeri Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 10:36 PM EST

Why do they keep putting a drama on thursday nights at 10pm after 2 hours of comedy that makes lots of sense. No wonder they are in 4th place

BLT Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 09:50 PM EST

here's a question...how about some LIFE scoop?

No news here @ the January schedule, when in the new year it will return, etc..

i really love the show, throw me a bone!

ks Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 09:35 PM EST

Also have to agree that NBC is "WTF' channel, they are owner of scifi and have ruined that network with reality shows. I don't get it?????

ks Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 09:31 PM EST

The whole point of Knight Rider is to be silly. comic relief for the week. I like Kitt and the pixar twins-the only real actors in the show :)

Clarence Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 09:02 PM EST

Pretty much the only shows that I care about in this network are Chuck and The Office.

I'm glad my newbie favorite Chuck picked up a full season :) I just desperately hope it doesn't receive the same fate as another brilliant show: Pushing Daisies.

790 Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 08:36 PM EST

Why did Knight Rider ever go past the pilot.
The show is laughable...

allie Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:56 PM EST

=[ knight rider is gonna get cancelled? *sigh* pretty much every show i like on nbc gets cut after 1 or 2 seasons.

allie Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:55 PM EST

=[ knight rider is gonna get cancelled? *sigh* pretty much every show i actually like on nbc gets cut after 1 or 2 seasons.

CandyMaize Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:49 PM EST

So, Knight Rider, got their full season pick up (much to my dismay) about 6 WEEKS AGO!! And now they're being cut back by 4 of those .. (I'm laughing at the network on the inside)

MC Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

Amy,
Chuck, while having low overall ratings compared to other shows, still has MUCH better ratings than PD in both total viewers and the Adult 18-49 demographic. Given NBCs stuggles and the quality of the show I'm still optimistic that it'll get picked up for a 3rd season.

Lexx-2 Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:46 PM EST

So I guess this means the new Knight Rider won't even out last the abominable Team Knight rider (total 19 hours vs 22). That's gotta burn!

elr Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

OMG!!! 2 hour blocks of Celebrity Apprentice. No wonder I never watch NBC anymore.

Sara Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

Yeah, any chance NBC (given their slide)... or any other network (cable?) will pick up Pushing Daisies?

Submommy Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

I have a question: When will the 'Apprentice' franchise die? Blech.

ann Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 06:27 PM EST

I have a question too. Who the hell cares about Celebrity Apprentice? Seriously.

David Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

Or...
What is wrong with the people who watch TV?

Jim from Saint Pail Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

*Raises hand* I have a question. Knight Rider is still on the air and Arrested Development is not. What is wrong wqith the people who run TV?

Flap Jackson Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:53 PM EST

Question: Where's the much-hyped and uber-mysterious untitled Office spin-off?

JRybka Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:43 PM EST

I agree... Some of this dreck is still is still on but they cancel Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone? And you wonder why Network Television is going down fast.

sab Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

Any questions?

Yeah can you tell us who that blind item is you wrote about yesterday?

Kaite Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:18 PM EST

Not that this has anything to do with the topic at hand, but I noticed this on the EW homepage: Bad Girls Club is still on. Seriously? This is still on but Pushing Daisies gets canned?
I still have all of this season's ER episodes on my Tivo list, I'll get there. I'll miss it but as you can tell I'm not going to miss it too much lol.
Can't wait for Medium, I love Joe and Allison's relationship.

Jessica Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:12 PM EST

apostrophe -- March isn't a burnoff zone this year. Because of the switchover to digital in February 2009, sweeps have been moved back to March. NBC's scheduling move isn't a knock against Kings.

I'm looking forward to The Office after the Super Bowl. Hopefully, it won't disappoint, like some of the 1 hr shows have in the past.

majigail Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 05:06 PM EST

Sure... I invest in those 7 hours of saved up Knight Rider after Thanksgiving and NOW they decide to cut their extended order.

JJ Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

Two hours of Celebrity Apprentice? Thank goodness TiVo will let me break it up into tolerable chunks.

Adrian Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:51 PM EST

NBC needs to raise its game...

David Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

What about Merlin and Amy Poehler's new show?

DB Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

Chuck is returning on February 2 (the day after Super Bowl) with a 3-D episode! It's already got a full season order a long time ago.

apostrophe Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

Wait, March 19th? That's way too far away. And also, starting a show in March? Please tell me NBC isn't trying to stop Kings before it starts!

Amy Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Is NBC still planning on sticking with Chuck despite its relatively low ratings? Chuck and Pushing Daisies are my 2 favorite shows. It seemed like they had similar ratings, and we know what happened to Pushing Daisies.
