'Grey's Anatomy' Exclusive: Izzie/Denny ghost story twist revealed!

Dec 4, 2008, 01:12 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: Grey's Anatomy

Greysheiglmorgan_l Warning: Stop reading, Grey's Anatomy fans, if you don't want to know the big secret behind Denny's afterlife love affair with Izzie.

I'm serious. Stop.

Okay then, here we go. Turns out Shonda Rhimes wasn't lying when she told me last month that a brain tumor wasn't what was causing Izzie's case of "I see dead people... and have sex with them!" But she was being sneaky.

Last chance to run, spoilerphobes!

According to multiple sources, Izzie's hallucinations are health-related -- and brain-related. And although the specific name of the ailment is being kept in the safe underneath Rhimes' desk, I'm told it's similar to an aneurysm. And every time it flares up, she sees Denny. And sometimes when it really flares up, she shags him. (A Grey's rep could not be reached for comment.)

But wait, there's more! Izzie's aneurysmish disorder was never intended to be fatal. Plans change, but, per an ABC insider, Rhimes didn't cook up this story in order to grant Katherine Heigl's alleged wish to be let go from the show. Rather, the boss wanted to give her employee the thing she allegedly wanted, the thing that eluded her last season: great, Emmy-worthy material.

And say what you want about the story, Heigl has delivered.

For their part, ABC execs remain divided except for on one point: Everyone acknowledges that the plot is asking the audience to take a huge leap. "It's definitely an unorthodox story, but I trust in Shonda," maintains one suit, who says the press will eviscerate the net no matter what they do. "If we interfere, we get blamed for messing with someone's creative vision. If we don't do anything, we get blamed for the backlash. You really can't win."

Another insider says Alphabet execs are getting antsy waiting for the audience to find out about the underlying medical issue fueling Izzie's spectral romance. So antsy, in fact, that they are applying some light pressure on Rhimes to speed up the reveal. Once you know the reason Izzie is seeing Denny, they figure, you'll be much more willing to go along for the ride.

Well, let's put that theory to the test: Now that you know what's behind Izzie's condition, do you feel better? Worse? Indifferent? Sound off below! (Personally, I can get on board with this story now. I think.)

They completely ruined Denny. He used to be a very likable character and now Im just wishing he would die again! The writers have lost it. One great thing I've heard though.... is that TR Knight wants out! I would be so happy if that little beyotch left, it might almost make up for this atrocious story line....... :D

Lucy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:53 PM EST

The Denny/Izzie storyline is hideous. One of the worst ideas I've ever seen on a TV show. This is giving Katherine a meatier role? Give me a break. The Denny character was over a long time ago I thought. He keeps showing up is outlandish. Whether it's because of a health issue or not, it's still ridiculous! Why not have her Alex get together finally and then she has a health issue, and the storyline for this season could have been her and Alex dealing with her health issue after the 2 of them finally getting together. That would've been much more realistic, emotional and heart wrenching then this 'bring Denny back from the dead sex' shenanigans.

M.D. Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 11:03 PM EST

The whole this is pretty soap-operaesque! Next someone will have amnesia and not remember who they're married to...oh yeah, that already happened once :) GA viewers are not into that...we want to see our own lives reflected in the characters and story...only funnier, sexier and more interesting. Not wierder, darker and more disturbing! Our lives are wierd, dark and distrubing enough! I appreciate Katherine H. getting a deeper role on the show because she has proved herself a worthy actress, but worthy of sex with a dead guy? Really, that's all they think of her?

Ex-Grey's Fan Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 09:38 PM EST

All I can say is that I am happy I stopped watching GA last season. Meredith is annoying, it sounds like she hasn't changed, and Izzie and Alex STILL aren't together. On top of that, Meredith's sleezy little sis and McSlutty slept together? Yep, same old stuff. Good Riddance!

Ex-Grey's Fan Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 09:37 PM EST

Amy Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 02:12 PM EST

No matter what's behind it, the storyline is awful and should be abandoned as soon as the next new episode is shot. If GA can get rid of Erica Hahn practically overnight, they should have made this go away a lot sooner.

Joan Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 02:30 AM EST

I hate this thing with Denny and Izzie, it is stupid and boring. I stopped watching Days of our lives for good when Marlena became posessed now I have to stop watching Grey's Anatomy because of a stupid, irritating, annoying storyline a writer put together for Izzie.

Janice Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 10:50 PM EST

Okay, so like I have loved Grey's since the beginning, but this story line was pretty bad. Even now knowing what will happen, I still think it wasn't a worthy love story to bring Denny back from the dead. I thought what are these writers thinking to leave this nonsense on and axe a great show like Lipstick Jungle, another really great show. I just don't get it!

Darcie Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:54 AM EST

I agree with a lot of you. I love Denny and wish they didn't kill him off. Although this Izzy/Denny bit is getting old and they need to move it along!

I will say I figured it out the first time she saw him. I told my sister and she said "NO, really? You think that's what it is"?

As much as I don't like Izzy's Character these days since I thought she and Alex finally fit and I don't think her character is doing anything, I don't want to see her killed off. I guess we will have to wait and see what they are really going to do with her character!

CASH Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 01:54 PM EST

Sounds like she's copying a story line from General Hospital. Nicholas and Emily. Need to be more creative than this.

Jim Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 12:59 AM EST

You hate izzie? Just shut up. She's great. And this Denny/izzie storyline works....for those of us who aren't completely stupid, we saw this explanation/storyline coming when the Izzie/Denny sex started, and we're looking forward to seeing the dramatic ramifications for Heigl. She'll do well. Can't wait to see it. The show's still great. Fun. Love it.

rach Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 01:42 PM EST

its not cuz she wanted an emmy,
she just wanted something to work with.

the emmy part was just expressing that she wanted something that WASN'T lying on the floor moping for her dead fiancee.

Elizabeth Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

I actually thought the Denny story line was a good idea and have been on board since the beginning. We needed the Denny closure after one of the most heart wrenching episodes of tv history. I will never forget Izzy in the dress in the bed with Denny. Also the Alex thing obviously couldn't just be neat and easy, and to be frank I was quite over Alex being a total messed up mystery. We needed him to have it together. Also it fits with his women all go crazy which kind of foreshadowed Izzy being crazy. Next I have trust in Gray's that the plots are always well thought out. Agreed it has been a slow season but I didn't think that they were just doing something random for no reason. This story line actually to me is the only one that makes sense. I think the biggest current problem on the show is the lack of McDreamy time... so Meredith and Derek are together and yes I like that but can't they have some sort of together drama, and not just be breaking up. Isn't there an in between?

sydney Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

I loved Grey's first couple of seasons, however, this season is a snooze. The whole storyline with young Grey and McSteamy is sickening since he is so much older than she. Plus if TR Night is leaving, maybe Burke can come back. I miss him. He added stability to the show. The characters being introduced have no substance and the focus on Izzie is too much for me. Bailey needs a storyline-is she still with her husband and son? Describe why Korev is as shallow as he is? I like Katrine Heigl but goodness! This whole storyline is disturbing.

Jacky Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

I for one am still in love with this show, as much as I was from day 1!!! I love every character in it, and will be sad if any of them leave! All of them make the show, including Izzie and George...and it wouldn't be the same without them. I honestly hope the show never gets cancelled, no other shows beat it!

JOB Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 04:53 PM EST

ALL THIS BECAUSE HEIGL WANTED AN EMMY?? We should all be so pissed. She should have taken a walk when SHE got her feelings hurt instead of subjecting all of America to the results of her temper tantrum.

kira Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 01:54 PM EST

argh! denny and izzie is like that whole meredith drowning episode, except it's lasting the entire season. i want it over!

Drew Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:20 PM EST

I'm so happy it's brain related. I'm also so happy this said brain related trauma is no fatal. I think Heigl's great, but something mental was the only plausible excuse for this story line.

Leah Miller Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:19 PM EST

I think the whole story line is idiotic. If she wanted off let an ambulance run her down out front. Then get on with the Christina/ Owen story line, I love the wounded warrior soul.

Kwilli Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

I will be more tolerant of the story line now that I know -- but I want more of Christina and the Iraq doc, more of McSteamy, but NOT with little Grey (that just seems so wrong!!!). More angst, more sex, less George (good riddance).

Joe Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 09:25 AM EST

Honestly, they should just get rid of Denny completely.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:20 AM EST

I think the storyline is getting a little absurd, I love the show, but they should hurry up with the Izzie and Denny storyline or else they are going to loose more viewers. They need to get more good storylines going again as in Season 1 and 2; it seems that it's kinda just going downhill, but i keep watching in hopes it gets better.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 02:35 AM EST

i love denny and i love his character, and i wish they didnt kill him off cause i thought he made the show that much better, but now that i know its an illness i hope denny doesnt go away i still love him.. dont cure the illness!!!

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:52 PM EST

I think this storyline is over the top. More of Christina's budding romance, Mer & Der, even the Chief would be more interesting.
Marie B. Vermont

Sarah Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:02 PM EST

There's another ABC show that had a dead fiancee showing up because of an illness. General Hospital. Story stolen from a daytime soap - proves it's way over the top and little campy.

pat Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

Any time Denny is on screen is OK
with me.....he's HOT!!!!

dani Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:44 PM EST

Grey's is getting really old these days. They keep on bringing in new characters that don't add anything to the show. Lexie sleeping with McSteamy is just a dumb excuse for more sex. Whatever happened to Meredith and Derek? Their relationship is barely mentioned anymore. Enough with Denny he is dead. Izzie and Alex nee a real chance at their relationship after trying so many times. They kicked off Hahn and now they are making Sadie have eyes for Callie. If noone liked Callie with Hahn what makes ABC think anyone will like Callie with Sadie? The interns barely speak at all and they should be having more interaction with the residents than just Christina belittling them. The Christina/Meredith fight I feel will be really good and I am so glad Christina finally gets another chance at love after Burke! The crazy cardio lady I do not like one bit and she doesn't bring anything to the show at all. They need to fix a few things or I am going to stop watching!

cb Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:28 PM EST

I wonder how many of the Hahn haters would give anything to have her back on the show if it meant Denny and Izzie would disappear into the oarking lot.

Cindy Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:18 PM EST

I like Grey's alot more this season than last.Dead Denny is alot better than no Denny!!!!! Who cares if Knight is leaving ,couldn't care less about his stupid character anyway.Alex is really getting on my nerves with all of his crap too.Best storylines are the crazy Australian intern and McSteamy and little Grey.

susimcd Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

izzie is my least person on this show...last season i even would tivo GA and then forward thru her parts...like when she was freaking out over a deer? ugh. get rid of her!

john t. Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

how and why did this topic get revived after two weeks?

Laney Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

Whatever i'm about to quit the show anyway I'm tired of the homosexual aspects of the show Most people do not want to see that

ginnifer Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:11 PM EST

Jumping the shark - that is what comes to mind. I use to love this show, but every time Denny appears I just groan. I agree, bring Thomas back. Didn't not agree with his racist remarks, but at least he was interesting on the show. The show has gotten completely out of control. I use to not miss it, now I don't care if I never see it again.

Bret Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

I could care less what her problem is period. the whole show has gotten so bad I will stop watching if it doesn't improve in a couple of shows

Michele Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:52 PM EST

I hated the Denny storyline to begin with so no, this does not make me feel better. It's idiotic.

Johnny Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:45 PM EST

This show sucks and has gotten worse over the years....

LDU Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

What a relief that there's some method to the madness! I'll go along for the ride now that I know it's a medical condition.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

THANK FREAKING GOD!!!
I was seriously scared for a minute there that it wasn't health-related.
Hopefully Izzie/Alex will prevail, I'm sick of them being interuppted.

Dee Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

Bring back Issac Washington; especially now that Knight is leaving. Viewers would return. Strengthen Baily to the way she was before and continue her family story line.

cocoa_beauty Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:05 PM EST

I love the plot but I do wish it hurry along a little also I really want izzie and alex to stay together. but I am so through with the girl on girl please!!!!!

Anon Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

Honestly this storyline sucks...I've been watching GA hoping it will get better but...thus far...I'm better off reading a book...

Heath Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

An aneurysm? Is ABC obsessed with this plot? Isn't there already a whole show devoted to halucinations caused by an aneurysm like brain disorder on ABC already? Eli Stone. And that show is getting cancelled. Its kind of boring and is really dragging on. Lets get moving with the show or I'll find something else to watch.

Anon Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

Okay so she has a brain thingie that is causing her to see Denny...won't she be worse off when the "fix" her and she has to kill Denny AGAIN?

Jackie Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:52 PM EST

I hate this storyline! It is so unrealistic. And I hate the fact that they never show Meredith and McDreamy's relationship rather than saying goodnight! And yeah, George was a fun character who is never on. Lexie is irritating too! The first 3 years were good, then it went purely to everyone sleeping together! I will quit watching.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

I think it's beyond ridiculous. I always thought it was overboard how Izzie mourned so long for a fiance that she never saw outside of the hospital. But now it's just too much--she definitely needs to be written off the show--dead or committed.

ctchic Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

please cancel Grey's Anatomy and keep Eli Stone...i stopped watching GA when you fired Isiah Washington

ANNOYMOUS Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:19 PM EST

CSI ROCKS! GREY SUCKS!

agent227 Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

i just hope to god they see this as the golden opportunity that it is: a reason for katherine heigl to crawl under a rock, or star in as many crappy romantic comedies as she wants to, without ever having to invade my Thursday night television experience again. P.L.E.A.S.E. get rid of her.

michelle M Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

so you get an aneurysm and you see dead people... come on.. the idea of somthing that could possible kill a main character and all they could do was drudge up old loves... please make this a relevant show for adults again... i really woould rather watch greys the CSI... but for now i can't.. i'll wait to read when when the old grey's comes back

gary Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:03 PM EST

I don't like the grey's plot twist. I hope Izzie's character leaves quickly. That is the dumbest storyline they could have come up with. And it's not emmy worthy. She hasn't done anything this season she didn't do last season. Not one!! Same naive, romantic, teary-eyed doe in the headlight Izzie we've always seen. Nothing great about it.

DJ Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

I love Eli Stone and it got cancelled . . . Is Grey's next? You have to admit that it is very Eli Stoneish and I will hang in there for a while but GA isn't the can't wait to get home nad see show that it used to be! Besides Eli Stone is a good comedy with song and dance - if ABC was going to cancel one - Why not Grey's?!?!

Cait Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

I'm a huge JDM fan, but Izzie needs to kick off so she and Denny can "go into the light" together and live happily ever after.

Alan Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

I was hoping for something less "medical" and more psychological - like a complete and utter break with reality that would have her shagging Denny forever - behind REALLY thick glass in some institution outside of Seattle. Then she could use THAT for an Emmy as she leaves for those Happy Acting Grounds she seems to want. Have her kill George just before she loses it (he wants to go, too) and have it be Alex Karev that subdues her. A beautiful finish! People would talk for YEARS!!

Stephanie Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 02:23 PM EST

I dont feel any different. I think it needs to hurry up. Because its getting ridicules. Im watching CSI instead too.

Keith Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 02:16 PM EST

Some stupid story lines are like train wrecks, and you have to watch. This one is uncomfortable and makes me not want to watch. So Izzie's bonus-gift for losing Denny is a brain ailment? And Alex's reward for finally being open to love and vulnerability is to watch the love of his life shag a dead man before dying in real life? Utter crap. I miss the early years of Six Feet Under. Very much. Give me the damn pen.

Suzanne Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

I still hate it and now I hate myself for giving up CSI to watch it!

cindy Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 01:42 PM EST

The whole show is becomeing predictable. Brain tumors and sex with Lexie....boring. The show should focus on patient cases and how the characters interact with them and not so much the interaction with each other. You are bound to run out of relationship tag teams eventually .

Amanda Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 01:38 PM EST

My thoughts to the writers: Don't kill off a character that your audience loves. Then don't bring him back to get your ratings up especially after that part of the plot has been expended. Hmmm aneurysm, sounds like another ABC show...

Michelle Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 01:33 PM EST

I feel better knowing that there is a point to this, and I really love the story between Izzie and Denny, but I really would like to see Alex and Izzie work through her illness and end up together.

GoodTxGirl Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 01:23 PM EST

Love the storyline, Love the show....Im on board - its a TV show for goodness sake - if you don't like it change the channel - there are some of us that like it for what it is and hour of thinking about something besides the world.

PJ Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

Hate the story line, I am almost to the point of giving up on the show entirely. I never felt the Denny Izzie thing ever worked anyway - they need to let Denny rest in peace.

Anne Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:38 PM EST

Hate the storyline whether there is a reason for it or not! Just makes me feel icky like I need a shower. Can't they think of a more creative storyline then regurtitating Denny and Izzy. They spent most of last season draaawing that one out as it is. Let her be happy with Alex and give him some screen time.

Maggie Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:37 PM EST

The story line is so tiresome. In fact, the show is getting tiresome.

Lindsay Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:34 PM EST

It's an obnoxious story line, but it's good that it's health-related. Considering it's a medical show, it's better that it be some sort of medical condition than a supernatural visitation from a dead guy.

Beth Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:22 PM EST

Seriously, this show just gets weirder and weirder. I loved it the first couple of seasons, then things started to go downhill. C'mon, interns can remove the appendix of one of their own and just get a slap on the wrist? Christina and the new guy are ridiculous and you'd think Meredith might actually stop whining so much now that she and Derek are back together, but NO! I've had this show set up on my DVR for several years, but don't even bother to play it most weeks anymore.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:01 AM EST

I think the story line is interesting. I mean I always figured it would be medically related, and as someone who was not a big Denny fan from the beginning, I think it's funny when he makes rude comments about Alex. I mean okay, it's mean, blah blah blah, whatever, but seriously, if you like rude characters (Christina) even a little bit (which I do), you probably enjoy that fact.

Pippa Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I hate this storyline. It's ridiculous...maybe if they stopped killing people off in this show they wouldn't have to bring dead characters back. I was a huge fan from season 1-3 but it's gone way downhill :(. Sex with dead boyfriends does not a good storyline make.

rach Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

i still hate the storyline. i loved denny, but i do NOT like this storyline. i hate how mean izzie is being to alex, and alex doesn't even realize it, and i feel like strangling something everytime denny says some snide remark about alex. izzie is giving up time with an awesome guy to have sex with a ghost.
i HATE this, and i hope she dies. i'm tired of grey's and it needs a change

V Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

I really wish they would reveal this already. This Izzie sexing a ghost thing got old pretty quickly. I'm getting tired of Alex being dissed by Izzie without even realizing it. He deserves better at this point.

Theresa Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:14 AM EST

Dirty Sexy Money has to go, but ghost sex gets to stay? Embarassing!

Tiredof_Whiney_Lizzy Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:35 PM EST

I have enjoyed GA except for the Lizzy storyline. I hope they get back on track without some hokey dokey story that won't make into a medical or psychiatric journal.

Ex- GA fan Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:00 PM EST

I agree with Belinda in her earlier post...ABC cancels Eli Stone and Pushing Daises yet this show is still on? I've been a fan since the beginning but it's getting hard to watch. All the BS about being ranked 12th? within a 5 mi. radius, maybe. I'd hope I never needed to go to a hospital like this one. No discipline, everyone does whatever they want with zero consequence. It just gets more ridiculous by the day. Izzie? what purpose does she really serve on this show? seriously...no wonder TR Knight wants out. Everyone is sleeping with everyone and it's hardly interesting. Zero chemistry between Meredith and Derek...put and end to that one as well. I keep hearing how the interns suck and there's no repercussion, yet didn't Bailey cover up the interns messing with cadavers? You would have thought they were on probation since then. Denny? Dear God just take him already. He's a good actor but the reality of it is, you screwed up royally when you killed him off...deal with it.

whysaenz Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

I feel like they ripped off
general hospital. This exact same story line happened to nicholas and he was able to see dead emily. It was dumb then and it is dumb now.

LH Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

WOW, a reason to watch GA again...Dead Denny seriously ROCKS!!! MORE, MORE, SO MUCH MORE Denny & Izzie lovin' needs to be on the horizon. This is the most excited I have been about GA since watching KH/Izzie reel from Denny's death. Killing Denny off was the WORST twist ever to hit GA--JDM & KH are so in sync & completely incinerate the screen together. NOTHING holds a candle to the Denny/Izzie love story & connection, and now we are FINALLY getting some payoff. WE WERE SO ROBBED FOR SO LONG!!!! Denny & Izzie belong together and this story just reaffirms that fact. They are the BEST part of GA once again, and imho, Denny & Izzie are the best GA couple EVER!!! Keep it coming, Grey's...Give us our Denny/Izzie love story to the hilt. It's LOOOONG overdue!!!

taramez Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

I don't care if it's an aneurism. It's painful to watch. This WAS a good show, why destroy something for the benefit of one actress? She may get her wish and leave the show because all of the viewers do. I AM VERY CLOSE TO THAT POINT. DON'T EVEN RESOLVE THE ISSUE. JUST WRITE HIM OUT ENTIRELY AND MOVE ON LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED. On a brighter note... Kevin McKidd is AWESOME!!! That's probably why I have been able to stand this awful story line so long.

Ron H. Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 02:17 AM EST

While GREY'S remains one of my favorite shows, I hold my nose every time Denny pops up. I used to love his character. Now he's just a silly annoyance. The writers of ELI STONE have delivered much more elegant and thought provoking material on the aneurysm front (visions and all) and, while not as ham handed as the Nikki/Paulo debacle on LOST, GREY'S fans deserve something far better than we've gotten thus far with this story line. I do agree that Heigl has done a bang up job but that does not negate the overall awkwardness of the story arc. Meanwhile, there has been a most pleasant surprise elsewhere in ShondaLand: the once tepid PRIVATE PRACTICE is blossoming into a darn good show. Yes, I said PRIVATE PRACTICE and "darn good show" in the same sentence! Case in point, last week's "choice/anti-choice" episode. Not only was it exceptional television, it was also one of the most intelligent and thought provoking treatments of the abortion issue I've seen in years. I'm hooked!

Amanda Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 11:54 PM EST

God love Shonda and God love all the wonderful actors on the show. These sound off's speak for themselves. The show has been and still is HOT! Keep up the great work! Gotta love gazing at Denny again!

Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

OMG so Izzie really is just seeing things, and it's the cause of a problem in her brain!I was wondering (and I'm sure everyone else was too) if this show was taking on a whole new genre, because it would be if denny was a ghost. I think the show will be more interesting now that I know what's going on with her.

Greys Fan Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 10:12 PM EST

Glad they brought Denny back - no matter how crazy the plot!

pricilla Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

i LOVE grey's anatomy. i've seen evey episode whether it be on tv or the net. i think the denny thing is weird. he is hot, but it's still weird. i don't really like the chick they are trying to put in head of cardio to replace erica. she's annoying, and has kristina's attitude times 10. no matter what i will probably not stop watching the show.

Elizabeth Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

I had a feeling Izzy's health was the reason - no shocker there.

kitty Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 09:35 PM EST

DENNY AND IZZIE GREAT GREAT!!!!!!

kitty Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 09:29 PM EST

Denny and Izzie are GREAT, brings tears to my eyes, everytime they are together. Keep them both somehow,!!!! when they go, AS far as I am concerned, the show is over, Denny is a Dream....

Grey-ed Out Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

So tired of Izzy!! She was great first season and has become a boring waste of air time ever since. The second they killed off Denny, Izzy lost all purpose. Love the actress, hate the character.

I don't care what Izzie's storyline is...as long as I can keep watching Denny!!!!!

Jude Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

Does this mean izzie is exiting the show as well? First IW is gone, then Addison, then Brooke Smith left, now TR Knight wants out. The only character I watch for is Sadie. Yes, she's crazy but she's a breath of fresh air unlike the other characters.

goldey Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

The problem is that they made a giant mistake when they killed off Denny. The love story here had the most chemistry of any couple on TV for a long time. Maybe they should just back up and find a way to say we've all just been dreaming Denny's death - and bring him back.:)

Nomad Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 05:36 AM EST

Does this mean we're soon to be rid of Izzie, the MOST annoying character on a show FULL of annoying characters? Not counting Kevin McKidd, who is WAY too good for GA.

nik nik Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 11:53 PM EST

i would love for there to be a medical reason for izzy/denny. things were beginning to be real sci-fi

Jenn Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

JDM, aka "always the dead guy" cracks me up this season on Grey's. Yes, it's a stupid storyline, but I'll take what I can get to see more of him. Although I agree that at least on Supernatural it wouldn't be out of the norm for him to return from the dead....and I can't wait until he does!!!

Sean Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 08:49 PM EST

Denny was REALLY starting to creep me out and I have to agree with Saffie - Izzie is not my favorite and she needs to be with Alex where she belongs. Poor Alex though, he sure does attract the crazy ones.

Milesjai Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

Get rid of Denny... It's getting annoying. Alex is the one who's going to get hurt it. This story line sucks.

Gina Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

I am upset. I love Izzies character and I love KH. She is so pretty. i am upset that she isnt getting close with Alex. I was very estatic when they got together. I'm starting to hate Denny. i just want him to go the hell away. He's getting so annoying. I like alex alot, alot, more. As for the crazy new australian intern, she is pshyco i dont know what is up with that girl but she is crazy and ooooooo little grey and Mcsteamy. I bet Big grey will be pi$$ed!!

Jenna Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

Has everyone forgotten about the other victim in this whole silly story line? What about Alex? We are finally seeing the emotional growth his character has been struggling to achieve through all these seasons only to see him rewarded with Izzie and her ghost pal. What will save this storyline will not be Izzie or Denny. It will be watching Alex go through this emotional wringer and coming out the man we knew he could be. Sell that angel Shondra and it may be worth this heavy price.

Sophie Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 04:24 PM EST

I don't feel better. This is the stupidest plot ever, and just an excuse for the writers to put still MORE mindless sex on the show. I really hope that Katie Heigl leaves, and takes TR Knight with her, they both deserve better than the debacle this show has become.

lmo Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

nononononono
and NO
Whatever the case I don't care!
Shonda very carefully chose the words Izzie told Alex before they got together, "I am not going to go crazy"
and now she is.
WRONG!

Jessica Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 02:56 PM EST

Okay, fine, there's an "explanation" now. It brings some sort of sense to what's been going on but it doesn't make it that much better. I STILL HATE the Izzie/Denny storyline. If they have figured out what the cause is, they'd better do something really fast about curing it because I don't know how much longer I can take this lame twist.

Soleil Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

Now it makes sense with some explanation to what she is responding to. I think it would be interesting - NOW I have some understanding. I was starting not to like the story line. It was becoming to typical of soap opera storylines and well, stupid.

Tyler Durden Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

I only like this storyline if they decide to go all the way with it and kill Izzie already. I'm a huge Grey's fan, but really can't stand Izzie anymore. She's dead weight. She brings nothing to the show. Get rid of her.

Bring Hahn back!

Cindy Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 11:52 AM EST

I can definitely get on board now that there is a reason behind her seeing Denny. And it has been great to see him again.

Brenda Hayes Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

I'll go along with any story line to see Denny! It's weird, I know, but Denny is the hottest guy at Grays. McGhostie?

HGIL Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 11:23 AM EST

Sorry, still not liking the Denny story line. Cannot just leave the guy dead? Not a good idea! Sorry, I cannot take it any more.

Amy Leigh Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 10:43 AM EST

It's not like everyone didn't already figure it was something brain-related or that she was going crazy, but for me it still doesn't make me like the storyline at all. Denny is extremely unlikeable now and I just want him to disappear forever and never return. George needs to run some tests ASAP to figure out what's wrong with his friend, like in the first episode of the new year. I don't even know if Katherine's been giving an Emmy-worthy performance since I fast forward through all of the Izzie/Denny scenes.

mildred Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 10:10 AM EST

i love izzie and denny. he could come back as a look a like relative. this story line is a little off but both are so cool that 1 silly story is acceptable. keep them both.

Nicole Downs Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

Personally, given a medical explanation, I'm on board for the crazy Denny scenes.

jexx Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 09:03 AM EST

PS--to all the people who don't like to see gay people on their teevee: get over it. "teh gayz" are not just in San Fran, NYC, etc. Even in my little pocket of the South, my son's friend has two mommies. And they are wonderful.

jexx Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 09:01 AM EST

Aspberger's Syndrome (a syndrome on the autism spectrum with varying degrees of visible markers) is on the rise, or might just be more readily diagnosed. Many competent, delightful, professional people have this condition. It's a very interesting "way of thinking" (I don't consider it a disease) and I know many people who present these traits. One of my best friends has Aspberger's and is a member of many clubs at his college and really makes an effort to socialize. He has his tics, but don't we all? The heart surgeon on Grey's is fascinating to me, and the actress (Mary McDonnell sp?) is spot on.
As far as the "gay agenda" goes, I like to see people in relationships. People. In relationships. I'd much rather have watched Hahn and Callie try and figure things out than this dead guy storyline (and I *love* JDM!). The new, 'hot' lesbian character is a PITA and I don't find her interesting because I know she's a poor substitute for Hahn (who I thought was GORGEOUS, btw).

prada Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 07:50 AM EST

This is the worst thing since the whole year on "Dallas" that didn't really happen!

Sulaf Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 07:43 AM EST

To bjmax: when I first saw this article I thought it would be bombarded by Supernatural fans campaigning for the return of Daddy Winchester, but to my surprise you were the first to blatantly do it. I always enjoy your posts.
I happen to live in a continent where SPN and Grey's don't overlap, and I'm a fan of both … WAS a fan of both. We haven't gotten to this point in the show here yet but I stopped watching WAY before that. Grey's was the perfect guilty pleasure, and I enjoyed it throughout the first 2 seasons and most of the third. It all started going downhill after Meredith miraculously survived the drowning incident, then there was her stepmother's death, then Burke's abrupt departure, Lexie, George cheating … it was never realistic but now it stopped being fun.
Anyway, my point is: BRING DADDY WINCHESTER BACK ALREADY! Even though I'm not too thrilled about SPN's 4th season like most other fans are, it's still a million times better. JDM deserves BETTER.

fran Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 03:46 AM EST

it's true though.. the plot is retarted.. but Heigl does deliver

Rob. Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 03:31 AM EST

This story line is horrible.
I can't believe they had cause to fire Broke smith over turning her gay. While they keep Kathine heigl on with her sleeping with a dead guy; brain tumor, anurism w/e the cause. I've already figured out that it had something to do with her brain, DOESN'T take a Rocket Scientist to figure this stuff out!

I swear to god they are about to lose a season 1 faithful over this.

And who cares about Danny, his story line ran already. LET IT GO!

GREYS IS REALLY DUMB NOW Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 02:59 AM EST

Wow. Shonda, I know you think you are so much better than us because you think you know everything, but the storyline is GARBAGE. Izzy is a terrible character and now George is leaving. TR knows whats up...hes jumping ship before it sinks and takes him with it. ABC execs: KILL THIS STORY LINE!

Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 02:55 AM EST

The show was getting pretty ridiculous. Thank God it's a biological problem, because it seemed the writers were driving the show into the ground.

Allie Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 01:49 AM EST

I'm glad Denny didn't actually come back from the dead and the problem is medical.. but they whole "mind blowing" sex thing is taking it one step too far.

Grey Eye Candy Fan Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 12:56 AM EST

I have been a long time Grey's fan but as of late, my patience is really getting tested. I love the drama and eye candy and thrilled to see the return of Denny, but REALLY? I could loose Izzy and George and not even miss them .... move on brain tumor or whatever ... I vote for more Denny, less Izzy, more new guy and Christina and hey, can't we just bring Burke back as another actor ... seriously, if we can buy Izzy sexing it up with dead Denny, we can definitely buy Blair Underwood as the return of Burke!!!

Mark Rabinowitz Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 12:07 AM EST

Thank GOD! I am an episode or 2 behind, but I HAD to read this, because this story line was driving my NUTS!

Teresa S. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 11:56 PM EST

I bet Shonda Rhimes watches General Hospital. This story is a direct steal from a storyline that ran for months on that show, where Nicholas's fiance Emily was murdered and then he had a brain tumor that made him hallucinate and think she was there with him. And when he found out what the problem was, he refused surgery because it would make the hallucinations go away and he would lose Emily all over again. It was a good story on the soap, and if written right, it will play out as a good story on Grey's, too. And the bonus is that we get to see Denny, too !

Ginacola Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

The part about Denney is awsome! I miss the good looking guy. He needs to come back. I saw him on P.S. I love you. what an awesome characeter. Shondra BRING HIM BACK. BRING HIM BACk. Shondra the show has been dead for awhile without a normal gul like this......Continue the issue with Izzy and GORGEOUS DENNY....PLEASE... I would enjoy it so would all my friends. ALL of them....Who cares about Mc Dreamey or McSteamy he is way above them all tons of my collegues, friends say the same thing ....BRING HIM BACK!!!!!!!!!

Lisa Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 10:31 PM EST

F, terrible

Cheri Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 09:48 PM EST

Yeah it is "brain related" because she id friggin NUTS! I adored Grey's until this year. If I wanted to watch something sci-fi I would watch charmed.

Sandy Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 09:22 PM EST

Izzy having a medical condition didn't really occur to me. Now that I know, I do feel better about the situation because it was pretty wierd. But hey...I'm not complaining about having "Denny" on the show again. He is awesome! I wish they would hire the actor to come back as a relative of Denny's so we could see him regularly again!

cj Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

I like Izzy but not seeing dead people and thinking she is having sex with them. She should stay with the live guy !

Kay Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 08:36 PM EST

I don't care what anyones says, I love the whole Denny Izzie thing! The show is getting back to what it was the first season. It was crazy and funny and awesome. And lets face it, Denny's hot! Im glad that Rhimes is doing what she is. She taking a chance and thats what its all about.

Belinda Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 08:24 PM EST

Way to go ABC---This show is getting worse--Can't believe you are taking off Elli Stone & pushing Daisies. They are much better than this show now.

bjxmas Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

I love JDM, but Denny and Izzy are jumping the shark. Even die-hard fans of JDM and the show are telling me this. I don't watch of course, I'm watching the best show on TV and it just happens to air in that same time-slot. Yeah, JDM come back to Supernatural! We need our Daddy Winchester fix and there it at least makes sense when a dead character reappears. Your sons need you, so come on home, John. So many prior GA fans have deserted the show and found Supernatural. Kripke and his writers write Emmy-worthy material and Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki give Emmy-worthy performances. They just don't get the attention they deserve because of the small network they air on. There is a reason why most TV shows are down in viewership and Supernatural is increasing drastically in its viewers. The public has finally started to discover the little show that could... and does deliver every single episode!

julie Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 07:05 PM EST

i can not stand t r knight or katherine heigl. i will be happy when this show is cancelled or these two are gone.

Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 07:03 PM EST

I think the story line is dumb- I DVR most of the episodes so I can watch them on the weekend, I fast forward through the parts with Izzie and Denny it is so stupid and appears it's going to get the show in trouble. If it keeps up they will loose another faithful viewer and I think many others too.

HELL YAH! I will seriously be glued to the TV to see what happens! Especially since this will affect a couple of members of the team. Alex for one is the person I want to concentrate on, his reaction to this is going to be really intresting. George is the other person I want to watch, because he really loves Izzy and neither though he has his issues, he always cares about what happens to her. GOT TO LOVE THIS SHOW!

WendySF Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 05:55 PM EST

That did this story line on General Hospital months ago. Nicolas could see his dead wife Emily, interact with her, etc. Then it turned out to be a brain tumor, then surgery and poof, Emily was gone. Perhaps ABC is testing in daytime and taking material to nighttime.

Deb Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

Isnt there enough drama in hospitals with out coming up with a really rather implausible story line. Brain tumor (or whatever ) or not, people you work with notice when you are whacky. Granted Izzy is whacky in general and I know she's no Brain surgeon (pardon the pun) but she educated enough to be a doctor. Even if she was some crack head out on the street someone would notice her talking to herself and at least try to get her help. With her education, wouldn't Izzy be getting herself some help, maybe not at her own hospital but somewhere else?? Sorry not buying it at all..... and by the way that new DR. (the rude abnoxious female one)....can NOT stand her , she's more annoying than Meredith..NEXT

Cindy R. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

I would love to meet Denny! Both he and Katherine Heigl is the "BOMB" together. I'm glad Katherine is getting bigger roles, she a great actress. Deserves it!

Cindy R. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

Greys is filmed in the same hospital I work in. I've met Katherine and she is very nice, she hasn't let her Stardom go to her head like Ellen Pompeo , Sandra Oh and T.R. Knight, whom trys to avoid their fans.

STEPHANIE Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

Well I think that it is infact insulting for the writers to expect us to believe that Denny and Izzie are really having some type of affair and that he came back from the dead. Also it's ridiculous that no one in the hospital has noticed that she's been talking to herself and skipping out on work...it makes these seemingly intelligent doctors look really stupid. You would also think that she would consulted someone before it got this far. She wants to win an Emmy but this is not going to get it for her. The writers need to stop dragging this out and get on with the story so the audience can get on with their lives and resume being excited about coming in on friday to talk about thursday's show with their coworkers.

Wendy Olson Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

This is getting to be to wild with Lizzy and Denny. Can they please just start acting like doctors in a hospital, work in a crazy hospital, trying to have lives outside of a hospital, life is crazy enough for real doctors. Show that! Sometimes writers are competing with each other so hard they forget that real people watch them. The audiance just want to excape from the real world, but not to things that are way out there. Yes, people die, yea, people talk to dead people, but they don't sleep with them. They just want them back in their lives, want to tell them they love them, miss them, cry for them. Somebody wake Lizzy up!!

Jill Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

I love the storyline! I pretty much figured out that it was something in her head (literally or figuratively) I love Izzie and Denny together. I think it gives fans of this couple some closure since their relationship came to such a tragic end.

Michael, thanks for all your great spoilers!!!!!!

Megan Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

I absolutely LOVE this storyline. It's a good thing when you have to take a leap and stretch a little bit to believe. It keeps your mind involved. I, for one, have been making sure not to miss Grey's so I'll be sure to be there when the "answer" is revealed. Get over it, all. It is drama, after all, not a documentary.

candela Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

sunnyny, that's exactly what i thought about alex... 2 crazy girlfriends??!! can't get a break!!

Heather Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:25 PM EST

While I love JDM and love staring at him every week, this storyline is ridiculous. It's enough to make me ditch grey's. (Although Denny's "I'm really starting to hate that guy" stuff about Alex is pretty funny.) Why the creators of Grey's can't just let ANYONE be happy is beyond me. We're seeing so much growth in Alex, and that is just being cast aside with this idiotic story. It makes me wonder: has Stephenie Meyer (author of the ridiculous Breaking Dawn) Rhimes' new idol?

RG720 Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

A dumb story line is a dumb story line. This has got to stop soon, I'm a die hard fan and about ready to turn the channel every time it comes up. Please put this lame horse out of it's misery.

ali frank Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

It's ridiculous to ask the Grey's audience to just "buy" Denny's return without insider information or clues. As adults watching this program, it is insulting to subject us to his return for weeks on end without nary an explanation from the writers. Also, her behavior is so off-the-chart bizarre that it is also insulting to viewers that no one in the entire cast -save George who wants to leave anyway -doctors ALL who completely ignore her symptoms. Up until now, I was a slave to the 9 pm abc Thursday show.....over the past few weeks, I've questioned my own sanity in giving so much time to this fairy tale story. You must be running out of material. Marry Meridith off to Derek, make Yang a world class star, give Miranda her due and get the hell off the air.

sunnyny Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Don't like this plot...Alex can't have 2 crazy girlfriends, regardless of the reasoning. I think Izzy's character has no place to go, same as George, except TR is smart enough to leave while we still like him. If they keep Izzy, they should make her pregnant with Alexs' baby, but she's convinced it's Denny's

julie Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

Grey's needs to make these doctors practice medicine for a while and make all the love connections secondary. Derek and Meredith should just get married and get on with their careers; Christina needs to become the surgical star again while falling in love with the new hot doctor. George needs some quality screen time; Mark needs to continue to evolve. Callie looks like she's flirting with another woman, so the lesbian confusion thing can still be quite interesting. I think that Lexie is complex enough that she could carry a serious story line also. The new asperger's doc has lots of potential for humor and drama. And Heigel can be a force on the show by evolving into what Addison Sheppard thought she could be. As far as Alex is concerned-- he has lots of potential to do lots of interesting things. If people want Denny to stay, let him be a quardian angel who keeps his hands to himself. Good story lines don't have to be outrageous; I think this is where Rhimes has gone wrong.

matt Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

this story line is single handedly making this show unwatchable. Talk about dragging something out. the absurd story line is killing the show

Pat Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:55 PM EST

This Izzy/Denny thing is dumb and annoying. How many partners does this character needs now she going for the dead ones. Never really liked Izzy maybe it is time for her to join the dead. To many other good and interesting characters to waste all this on her.

Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

I only watch this show for Christina, Callie, Sloan, and Bailey. Please kill everyone else off and start over with these people. They have more talent in their little pinky toenail than all of the rest combined.

Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:45 PM EST

Stupid!

Mike Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

I know. Denny is not really dead, Izzy just dreamed it. Now Denny and his brother J.R. can get back to running the hospital.

rjc116 Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

Wow, an awful lot of interest in this...but I confess also to being a fan, and somewhat annoyed by this element of the story line. I came to the conclusion that this delusion, hallucination, whatever, was some sort of emotional and psychological anomaly. The last episode Alex kind of explains it as the result of the extreme stress brought on by having to deal with the patient who had not received the heart which was given to Denny... I bought it, but I would assume that if Izzy continues to have these hallucinations she will be "officially removed" as a character, by being sent into a mental health facility for the duration. Personally I like Izzy and Alex and where there are going...

bk57 Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:14 PM EST

If they don't pull the plug on the Izzie/Denny thing, they're going to see lots of people pulling the plug on this show. It's just stupid, plus it's not being done all that well! Who cares about another emmy for Heigl. There are many other characters that need something to do!

Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

Ok, after reading many comments about people who want just the main characters back...well HELLO people you can only do so much with just those main characters. Life happens when you have OTHER people come into it and change things up. You can do this on a sitcom, but not a soap opera type of show. There are always new people coming in on soap operas. When the interns from season 1 became residents..would someone be wondering where their interns were? Why they didn't have to take any on? You have to build on a show. Now I agree that most of the main characters need to stay on the show to make it watchable, but you need to introduce new ones to make the story lines grow and become more interesting...Or it will just become boring rerun storylines that you will be complaining about anyway.

minderbinder Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:54 PM EST

Gee, how clever. Instead of going with the predictable brain tumor, instead they went with "condition basically exactly the same as a brain tumor but with a different name". This turd better not get any emmy nominations next time around.

TZ Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

--One more thing...it also makes a juicy storyline with Alex. What's going to happen!? Makes it more interesting. Plus Denny is hot. haha..

TZ Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:48 PM EST

My husband and I thought this was what they were going for after a couple shows. There was a previous story where the sister of a women thought she was hallucinated her boyfriend she met on a cruise and the Docs confirmed that it's possible the tumor was making her believe he was real. That seems like a bit of foreshadowing for what's going on with Izzie. In a way I think it's nice that Izzie is getting some time with Denny even though it isn't real. She gets to live her fantasy of having him. :)

~ M. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

I can't stand Alex & Izzie. I know we all have week moments but really?! Alex alone doing his thing is fine. I want them to find a real strong lead for Izzie. It makes it better to watch when she meets her match not downgrades!

~M. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:43 PM EST

I love Izzie & Denny. I wish they never killed him off. That was one of the best story lines for that show. I'm glad he's back (sort of) I can't wait to find out what happens. I had a feeling she was either in a coma already or some sort of tragic issue that would take her off the show. If you start loosing the people that make the show no one will watch it. Don't drop them like flies to quickly. Your main characters are the reason it took off in the first place. Along with Shanda Rhimes & her genious self. Don't cancel "Grey's" its about all we have left!

Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

get on with the denny plot line - i want to see izzy and alex together. no one likes dead people coming back to life, when we know that their actually really dead.

bonnie Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:30 PM EST

FYI the condition that Izzie has is EXTREMELY rare but is possible (in line with all of the rest of Grey's medical storylines). I just hope it's not the end for Alex and Izzie.

bonnie Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, too many comments to read them all, but apparently Shonda has been watching another ABC hospital soap--GH did this SAME story line with Nicolas and Emily from sweeps in Nov. all the way to sweeps in May.

SS Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

I fast forward through all the Izzie/Denny scenes... dumb story line. I like Izzie and Alex together.

adnaper Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

Now that ABC is cancelling Eli Stone, they're stealing it's plot. Eli has an aneurysm which makes him hallucinate. His hallucinations are the main driving force of the plots as he has to figure out what they mean and subsequently help people.

I thought the Grey's writers were losing it; it appears they have plus they're stealing!

Kristin Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:57 PM EST

So....they cancel Eli Stone....then do the exact same aneurysm/hallucination story line on Grey's - brilliant as always ABC.

Tiffany Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

This is weird. It is like Izzy is now on an episode of House.

Yeah Grey! Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 10:03 AM EST

I don't mind the Denny story. I just like having him back to look at him. He is gorgeous and his character makes him even more so. I love this show and they can't do anything to it that would make me not want to watch. If you don't like, just change the channel.

SallyC Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 07:51 AM EST

I think fans might almost be able to tolerate a ridiculous storyline like Izzie/Dead Denny if we had an equal amount of time for what we’re all begging for: MerDer screen time showing these two amazing hot actors being in love. That’s all we’re asking for. And reasonable medical stories that showcase the growth and challenges for the residents and doctors. It’s so sad that we’ve lost this (formerly) great TV show.

Theresa H Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 07:31 AM EST

Like pretty much everyone else here, I think the story is ridiculous. It's actually painful to watch. I really hope that Shonda and the rest of the writers are paying attention to all of this backlash, otherwise they are going to lose alot of fans. I think they should be paying more attention to the original cast.. who cares about these new interns and their "intern fight club" anyways? I miss Meredith and Derek and George and the rest who we never see anymore!! This is my favorite show but I am slowly losing faith. Please get rid of this whole Denny thing and get on with the show!!

meh Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 04:25 AM EST

The Izzy/Denny storyline is hideously paced. So hideously paced that ABC execs are kindly providing us an official leak about so that we can fast forward through The Awfulness That This Storyline Has Become - Because - Oh Horrors - It Won't Be Over Anytime Soon. Honestly, it doesn't feel like Emmy worthy material, but rather Shonda's thinly disguised revenge on Heigl for mouthing off. Too bad that we the viewers are the ones who are paying the price.

kristen lynn Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:29 AM EST

OK, If Shonda needs help with the storyine I can give her a hand with writing a new show in which Izzy and Denny are the main characters... she could go off to run the clinic full time, he being her constant reminder everyday on how he'd like the clinic in his name to run- turning her into this brilliant cutting edge errily focused diagnostic specialist- maybe we could even find a way to bring him back to life, in a new character-sounds much better than her being a two bit act as this former glamour model who has sex with her imagination's hiccup like some porn star- are they planning on writing her out due to medical? Get on with it, these two actors are HOT and deserve a better storyline already!!! (They all do!) The one thing this show really had going was so much happened that you'd be on the edge of your seat every episode... and now its nearly a week later and I can sorta get around to watching it on a monday night, tho I fell asleep in the middle of it...

Musicfan5 Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 11:25 PM EST

I've been a fan since the first episode of season 1. I began losing interest Season 3 when the show did that damn ferry episode. Burke leaving did not help. Last year was disappointing. And this I watched the first episode of the season and then bailed for good. The Office is my new favorite show. Based on synopsis I just read--I made the right decision.

lilly Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

This used to be my favorite show. So I continue to try and give it another shot. Hopefully I am rewarded, but starting to lose all hope.

Meg Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 07:43 PM EST

Sometimes I feel like there is no substance to the show any more. I love all the characters, but they all need equal screen time. We never get to see some of them anymore. I just never got into the Denny storyline to begin with and definately do not like it now.....hoping it goes away soon.

kill them both already Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

WHAT IN THE WORLD???? I sit in front of my television and all I can say every five minutes is "OMG ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME?" Get on with it, I'm tired of watching Izzie having sex by herself. Schizo, tumor, aneurysm, WHAT EVER... JUST GET ON WITH THE STORY ALREADY!!

This show used to be the greatest show on ABC... Now they are having these crazy story lines that take forever and a day to achieve, they slowed Mer and Der down... We hardly see them anymore! Christina is being betrayed by Mer and is having some kind of thing with Hunt (which I love, she needs some... Although, they should have never got rid of Burke...) Shonda is losing her jo jo and she is in serious need of some new and fresh ideas that are original and not stolen from DAYTIME SOAPS!! I don't watch PRIMETIME to feel like a 80 year old woman waiting for the next episode... and with the way this show is going, I'm surprised that ONE DAY DOESN'T EQUAL TO 5 EPISODES I HATE ABC AND WILL BOYCOTT THEM!!!!!!!!!!

Christin Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 05:37 PM EST

Ugh, this show started out so well, but now everything about Izzie annoys me to no end. And I never liked Denny, so having him come back UTTERLY disgusts me. What the hell are they doing??

Sarah Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

This show has been crashing since mid-season 3, and Shonda has done nothing to revive it. They had a chance when they decided to refocus the MerDer relationship into an adult relationship that works, but they haven't even shown those two on screen anymore! It's RIDICULOUS. This Denny thing is ridiculous, too, and its insulting anyone who's ever lost someone they love. Ok, NO they don't come back and No you don't have sex with them and NO, writing it off as an anuerysm does NOT make it OK Shonda! Grey's used to be my fave show; now, you'd have to pay me to sit through it. The Mark/Lexie thing is disgusting. Does everyone on the show have to hook up?! I hardly see Mer/Der or Bailey or George. Instead, the show has become all about annoying characters like Lexie and Izzy. The writers are even started to make the Hunt/Yang thing cheesy and lame (What was the crap about the Vents? That was stupid!). It's like they have totally lost all sense of taste and quality, and don't respect the fans

neri Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

I feel indifferent. I don’t think she has delivered. And if that’s intended to be material that’s Emmy worthy then that’s horrible material. I think she overacts it and she just bugs me. I don’t think she’s that great of an actress. I think she's good at acting like she's a good actress. I’m just not liking her character on the show. Take her out and you don’t miss a beat as far as the rest of the plot and cast go. Sure you have her and Alex but you can always have Alex jump to the next girl they introduce and that’s not out of the ordinary. Trying to pin Alex down to Izzie alone just bores him up even more too. The show would be better without her.

Lisa Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

Sounds alot like the recntly cancelled (IDIOTS @ ABC) Eli Stone !!!

Paging Dr. Logic Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

The Denny/Izzie/Alex storyline is insulting to the intelligence of viewers.

I'm almost persuaded to state that maybe all three characters have hit a wall and its time to dump and replace all three.

emmynm Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 02:31 PM EST

As with the daytime soap operas I can miss a week and not feel lost when I tune in again. The title of the show implies that the story line revolves around Meridith Grey however, I feel that has been left aside in favor of the Izzy/Denny fantasy and the Hahn/Callie 'romance'. The show began with Mer-Der and an alliance (of sorts) was formed among all of the interns that are now residents. Now we barely see the extent Meridith's personal growth in regards to her relationship with McDreamy. I still enjoy Christina's acerbic wit and the strength that she seems to possess when she is challenged. Rarely does she roll up into a ball and go off to a corner. Alex has grown also but his story is hampered by the "Dead Man Walking". More Mer-Der, more Christina/Hunt, and bring in the occasional tragedy so that the residents can work their triumph/tragedy stories around it. Show the strengths which have been slowly waning from the characters over the past eight episodes.

Chelsea Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 01:43 PM EST

"Light pressure"? I hope they're sending Shonda e-mails that are LITERALLY flaming, as in burning around the edges and threatening to set her office on fire if she doesn't get on with this storyline. It is absurd/ridiculous/stupid/asinine/every other synonym and should have been dealt with WEEKS ago.

Even if Katherine Heigl's acting is stellar, the idiocy of the storyline negates it, and I can't see the Emmy board looking past that to grant her a nomination. It's unfortunate, because she is a wonderful actress AND is part of the original five interns.

I am about a millimeter away from not watching this show anymore. There had better be a miracle stashed in the next episode, or ABC could soon see riots forming outside their building in Manhattan (started by me).

P.S. Knowing what is actually wrong with Izzie does NOT lessen the stupidity of this storyline. It is just as inane and insulting as ever.

Glenn Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:28 PM EST

This show has so jumped the shark. They should nominate it for a daytime Emmy Award!!! Lets bring on Susan Lucci to really improve it!

Grey's Fan???? Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST

I hope this tumor is fatal. I want Katherine Heigl off the show! She is full of herself and sucks as an actress. When she killed Denny I was done with her. The show has been slowly going down since they got rid of Burke. Now this ghost thing and Callie being a lesbian is soooo played out. Please revive this, it's on life support and we're losing it!

Cat Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 10:33 AM EST

Seriously, feel so much better now that I know there is a logical(ish) reason. I was starting to think that she was just crazy.

Hal Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Why do you only give info on this crappy show?

Jacq in Jersey Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 10:17 AM EST

I was beginning to think that it may not be a tumor, but it could be some form of seizure disorder. Glad to know that it at least makes sense!

Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 10:02 AM EST

It has dragged out long enough. Let us all move on please!

Rogue Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 09:46 AM EST

BRING BACK THE LESBIAN STORYLINE!!! That was easier to swallow than this!

Natalie Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 09:24 AM EST

Seriously? No this not make me feel better. Why is it that KH whines and Shonda jumps! Pulleeessee. And get rid of Denny, he's DEAD! I love Alex and he is the only one that makes Izzie likable to me.

Barb Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 08:50 AM EST

I figured that it was something medical...but speed it up already. Poor Karev!

Alena Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 04:48 AM EST

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Love Denny Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 02:24 AM EST

I think the producers realized they made a huge mistake by killing Denny off, and this is their way if making it up to the viewers. Great idea ! Find a way to bring him back to life and keep him on the show. His is so so easy on the eyes.

ange Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 01:47 AM EST

The first time Izzie started seeing Denny, I squalled the entire episode. Now, this is a big stretch, but I will trust the show that they know the big plan. I love Denny, so I was floored when he died. I know I'm in the minority here, but I love that he is back. I'm glad this week that people are starting to notice something is wrong, so maybe this storyline will move along. I love McHunk and Cristina!!!

Shonda - if you are reading - do something with Callie. This giggling and nervous thing she is doing around the new girl is embarrassing. (I can never spell that word!)

Seen every episode! Thank you Lord for DVR!

Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 01:21 AM EST

I like Izzy and Denny. Now as far as her seeing him and having *** with him is kind of weird. But if it does have something to do with her having a medical condition, I think this story could turn out to be good. I thought she was just seeing ghosts. But her having something wrong sounds more interesting. I cant wait to find out!! The story line for grey's I feel has definitely gotten a little out of hand. I also hope that none of the top characters that we have been watching since day one doesnt get the boot. I like all of them actually. Except I do believe that Denny does need to go, and soon!! Even though Denny is really hot and I could watch him all day, he died episodes ago and he needs to go. The story doesnt make sense with him in it.....unless of course, Izzy does have some kind of medical condition where she is seeing him.

Salie Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:46 AM EST

kill denny off the show! oh wait.....you did already a few seasons ago. then what the f is he still doing here.

dennyneedstogo Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:24 AM EST

hey remember when alex's last gf slit her wrists and then izzy told him that unlike ava she is normal! well that lasted for about 1 episode and then izzy started seeing dennys ghost. turns out izzy is more messed up then ava was. oh the irony.

i dont care if a medical condition is making her see denny or not. this is a horrible story line and like others have said it has been done on SOAP OPERAS.

this isnt the only story line that is terrible on the show by the way. callie just becomes a lesbian within a few episodes. a character leaves or enters the show out of no where. (hann gone, new weird woman that cant understand emotions in, blonde intern in), characters being so in love and then the next episode they like someone else (little grey liked george but is now into slone, callie was into hann but now apparently has taken a liking to the new blonde intern. please make the show good again. it may be too late.

FED UP WITH HEIGL Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:07 AM EST

heigl obviously doesn't want to be a part of grey's and it shows in her acting. it's disapointing to hear that shonda came up with this story line just to give heigl "an emmy worthy" story line. heigl throws a fit and the boss gives her what she wants. just let heigl go from the show so she can pursue her movie career and us viewers don't have to sit through another ridiculous izzy scene. out of all the original cast, i would miss heigl the least if she was let go.

Friend Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:39 PM EST

As long as Denny gets to stick around, who cares what's wrong with Lizzie? He is so fine and sexy. I'd watch him read street signs!

Luke Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

If Shonda Rhimes thinks this makes this ridiculous storyline any less so, she needs to check HER brain for any tumors.

Kristen Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

They definitely need to reveal what is going on there SOON - it is too weird to go on with no explanation.

Bell Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

Well I really love Izzy and Denny on the show. Im glad that she is sticking around, she is a great actress. And yeah I feel much better that she is not going anywhere and we can still admire Denny sexiness lol.

Liz Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

I was really about to abandon show. They need to bring it to a head ASAP.

PJ Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

I hope Izzie has that aneurysm so both her and no that no talent actor that plays Denny will get off the screen.

Bree Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

I feel so much better about this story line now!! I LOVE Katie Heigl, and of course love Izzy. I'm SO glad to hear that Izzy is sticking around Seattle Grace! I think the show wouldn't be nearly as interesting without Izzy. You can't take away one of the original five (Meredith, Christina, Izzy, George, and Alex). I just think watching them grow and watching their journey from their first day of residency to where they are now is a major facet of the show. To get rid of one of those characters would be foolish and hurtful to the show - in my opinion. I have always trusted Shonda - and she has NEVER let me down! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us in the upcoming episodes.

DRB Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 07:04 PM EST

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please get rid of Heigl. PLEASE.

Charli Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 06:08 PM EST

Grey's made the biggest mistake they could make when they killed off Denny. Any attempt to still have him on the show is all we can hope for and look forward to watching. He belongs on this show.

Mandy Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

OMG! I totally like this story line now....I was getting sick of it but now that I know whats goin on, its so much better

michele Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 05:26 PM EST

with out even reading the article, I figured that Izzie was sick. There was no way that Denny could keep coming back and NOT be something wrong with her. I just hope that this isn't it for her.

Ali Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 04:52 PM EST

Word to Shonda, this doesn't make it different from a stolen soap stoyline in that Izzie's condition is an anuerysm not a tumor, it just makes them having stole from a different soap, and an even more recent storyline.

GH did the brain tumor, and just THIS YEAR GL did a storyline in which a man started seeing his dead son, claiming he was guiding him and being there for him, an dit turned out he had a brain anuerysm caused by a blood clot.

Penelope Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

Sick of Izzie. Feel bad for Karev. Wish Christina would get laid already. George needs to be cut a break and get to be a knight in shining armor for once. Sloan and Little Grey??? Weird... She's too innocent for him. I like him nonetheless - but he's really going to have to stop sleeping with Callie. Love Callie, but it's like she's suddenly just lept off a cliff and gone totally lesbian when she wasn't too sure about it all with Hahn. Some more depression out of her would be nice. Meredith and Derek are SOOOOOO boring now. I like Meredith and Little Grey better when they're being good sisters than when Mer is being all cold and hateful. Loving the chief. Miss his wife. With that said.... it would be interesting to see a few scenes outside of the hospital/bar/Mer's house. Some family scenes. Something sort of "normal" everyday life stuff. Izzie seeing Denny in the grocery store would be a great segue to her totally loosing it. Whole cast needs someone new to talk to - interns????

Anne Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

I love Grey's Anatomy..Haven't missed a single episode from its origin. I don't care how the story goes between Denny and Izzie, just keep Jeffery Dean Morgan at Grey's as long as possible. He never should have been killed off.

Laurie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 01:31 PM EST

And my beef isn't that they are "copying" (read: stealing) from General Hospital. After all, everything's derivative, although this is just a little too specific but whatever. No, it's the fact that this is a daytime soap type of story, and once upon a time, Grey's used to be an actual show. This kind of thing belongs on daytime TV, and I'm sure it was very riveting on GH because that's the kind of world where those stories can happen. But Grey's Anatomy isn't that kind of show, and this storyline doesn't fit. Daytime soaps being cheap and tacky are par for the course, and it's almost the whole point there. Cheap and tacky for a primetime drama, though, is not a good thing. It's called jumping the shark, or ghost, as someone said will become the new catchphrase thanks to this inane plot.

Laurie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

And which other realistic storylines would those be, the interns operating on themselves? Or Meredith's friend who appears out of nowhere and suddenly starts working here? Or Callie's insta-lesbian love life? Yeah, lots of other "realistic" storylines to balance the Denny/Izzie stuff out. Right. :)

Caitlin Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

I think they are actually doing a good job with this. I mean look at how intrigued people have been by it. I know my friends and I have been talking non-stop about it! Sure it's a little unconventional, but it's entertaining and it is creating sympathy for alex and is definitely evoking emotions. I like it. i think it is different and regardless of whether there was an identical or similar thing which occured on a soap operah, i could guarantee that the acting in this is much better and is at least surrounding by other realistic story lines unlike a soap opera.

Laurie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:35 AM EST

This is something that belongs on a daytime soap opera. Oh, wait, it WAS on a daytime soap opera! Didn't anyone tell Shonda Rhimes that the exact same thing recently happened on General Hospital? Wait, that really was a brain tumor and Izzie's is an aneurysm. My bad, that's different! Whatever.

Well, we all know where this is going. Izzie will finally find out that Denny didn't really come back and that she has an aneurysm--they'll learn that the aneurysm isn't life-threatening and the only issue is that it's causing hallucinations. And so, Izzie will decide that she won't want the surgery because she wants to keep Denny even if it is all in her mind. (Which is, of course, exactly what happened on General Hospital when that character's tumor was discovered.) And then it will all come down to Izzie realizing that she needs to let Denny go once and for all, finally choosing Alex over Denny, and she'll have a "Denny-ectomy" to move on from him AT LAST.

Shoot me.

Laurie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:28 AM EST

Yeah, Shonda's real crafty by saying it wasn't a brain tumor. Yeah, this is so totally different! NOT. It's the same dang thing and equally stupid. Most of us more or less figured that the show was not really turning supernatural and Izzie's visions were medical-related, and yep, we were all hating it already. And now that it's been "confirmed" that it is medical, we still hate it. No, ABC, knowing what the reason is does not make it easier to go along for the ride. In fact, I now almost wish it WAS a ghost story--that Izzie really WAS having sex with something that really was there but only she could see. But now, knowing that she's having sex with something that really, REALLY isn't there ... ten times creepier.

This show has gone to hell in a handbasket. Hands down the worst storyline ever.

Laurie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Grey's has totally jumped the shark with this crazy story line.
Dead Denny has to go and he should take the ubber annoying Izzie (and Katherine Heigl)
