Exclusive: Jessica Alba joins 'Office' Super Bowl bash

Dec 16, 2008, 02:13 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: The Office

Jessicaalba_lRemember how yesterday I reported that The Office had scored the equivalent of a touchdown with a two-point conversion by getting Jack Black to appear in its post-Super Bowl episode? Well, they just won the freakin' game!

Jessica Alba's doing the ep, too!

An NBC insider has confirmed for me exclusively that the erstwhile Dark Angel is joining Black in the cast of the bootlegged movie the Dunder Mifflin staff try to watch during the workday. No further deets are available at present, but c'mon, isn't knowing she's doing it enough?

That's what I thought.

So it's almost a rhetorical question, but I have to ask it, anyway: Are you more likely to watch the P-SB episode with one of the Fantastic Four in it? Or would you prefer the hour focus solely on Michael and Co.? Sound off below. (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

The only time I'd like to see her is if Michael is lonely enough to bring a hooker into the office =P

alyssa Sun, Feb 1, 2009 at 10:33 PM EST

I am a little upset that the office is having jessica alba guest star. She is beautiful but I dont think her acting (fairly bad acting, at that) will go well with the regular cast. Jack Black on the other hand should be a funny addition to this episode.

Still, I wish they'd stick to the regular cast :-/

florergegof Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 11:15 PM EST

I am unable to understand this post. But well some points are useful for me.

Enlargement Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 10:42 PM EST

I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks

Marie Claire Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 09:02 PM EST

I have an irrational love for Jessica Alba, so this means I may very well watch the episode, even though I generally don't like "The Office"

barney Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 01:55 AM EST

Office could do without Jessica on the show, but I think Jack could really add something to the show. I however will focus on JAM!

Girly girl Sun, Dec 21, 2008 at 02:42 AM EST

hey, I never watch The Office, but I will for Jessica. Her beauty and confidence leaves me in awe

Silent Hustle Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 05:35 AM EST

I love Ms. Alba.
I will prolly catch her on the office than the other thing going on.
GO ALBA!

hadlegih Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

Not at all happy. The Office doesn't need one shot guest stars. Amy Ryans was fine, Amy Adams was fine, but just cheap guest stars for fun? The office is better than that. Not looking forward to it, but will be watching because, duh, it's hte office. Although this season hasn't been all that great.

Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

"Honey" was the bomb, yo!

amah Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:50 PM EST

I think this benefits Alba far more than it does "The Office."

Drewbie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

I'll watch it no matter what. The Office delivers. Guest starring roles are different on this show, it'll work, but I would've watched the show anyway. I don't think they're attracting new viewers this way. It's all fans of the show and people who've left their tv on after the game.
To the person who referenced the Friends Superbowl episode: you said it like it was a bad thing...

bamarn Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:11 PM EST

I believe that all of you who are referring to the "quote on quote" are trying to say "quote/unquote". But hey, I'm not the quote on quote grammar police.

Billiam Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:02 PM EST

Everyone is commenting on Alba being a bad actor... but if the Office folk are watching a bootlegged movie, I have a feeling that the acting in the movie will be intentionally bad.

KAM Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 06:31 PM EST

i'm a woman and just because i hate on Jessica Alba does NOT mean that i'm jealous of her *beauty*. her acting SUCKS, and she's not the only sucky actor in the industry. if i wanted to watch her id go rent some bad movies. the fact that these two are making guest appearances makes me wonder if the show is going down-hill. i understand its the super bowl but i would rather go without any stars than settle for those two!

Phil Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:40 PM EST

For the record, I am a "quote on quote" straight guy who is jumping the shark by being a jessica alba hater. So what if she's pretty?
Her inability to act > her physical appearance.
And, yes, I read the article and it does not specifically state that her role in the episode will be confined to the bootlegged movie. So those of us fearing that she spends more than 30 seconds on screen have every reason to be disquieted.

DavyB Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

This is a reminder of "Friends" Super Bowl Episode with Jean Claude Van Dam. When will N.B.C. realize that their comedies are watched for their regular casts and the chemistry between them?

Annie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:48 PM EST

Jessica Alba is generically good-looking and less than generically talented. Hopefully we won't have to hear her speak much.

Charlie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

I don't know about anyone else, but Jessica Alba is the definition of average-looking to me. Hardly deserving of the beauty queen title some people like to bestoy upon her. And I will say that she is among if not the worst full-time actresses (read: not the Paris Hilton types the needlessly davil in everything without committing) of her generation. I pray that this isn't The Office's jumping the shark momemt.

minderbinder Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:21 PM EST

Ick. I love the show, but this looks like it has the potential to be their worst episode ever. Really smacks of desperation, are the ratings that dire?

Carl Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

I was going to write about The Office could use the ratings boost, but now that I read "eric" below "talks to people all the time about it", I feel much better. Silly me, all I did was look at the actual ratings.

Little Papa Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

Funny to see all the women on here hating on one of the most beautiful women on the planet! Go Alba!!

Katie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:45 PM EST

I love love love this show, and I have a terrible feeling about this. I think Jessica Alba SUCKS and this better not be jumping the shark.

eric Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

hey whoever said that the office needs the ratings is an idiot the office is one of the highest rated shows on t.v., i talk to people all the time about it, get with it.

eric Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

the cast are not going to be interacting with them they are going to watch a movie with them in it, i agree though jess is not a good actress, but she is cute.

Terrific Team Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:33 AM EST

I love Jess & Jack
Would watch them over any of you untalented ugly nobody naysayers.
Great to hear the economy has not affected the office employment numbers!

RainW Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

Rain Wilson and Jessica Alba acted together about 7 years ago on an Episode of Dark Angel. They were good together. This will be a reunion of sorts.

Maggie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

Agreed 100%, Jessica Alba sucks.

angie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:14 AM EST

can't stand jessica alba. really wish it was only jack black guest starring and/or some other actress. she isn't that great of an actress and is seriously overrated.

Laurr Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:36 AM EST

Ugh! Jessica Alba just plain old sucks. I don't care if she's in the episode for 10 seconds or 10 minutes, she ruins everything. There's a reason this chick can't open a movie to save her life. No one likes her. Office casting could have done SO much better.

Tyler Durden Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:24 AM EST

Miseralba needs to retire already. I can't stand her. She ruins everything she touches. Don't let her near The Office - bootlegged movie scene or not - don't let her anywhere near the show!

Dan Fielding Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:06 AM EST

This is not a big deal. I bet they only show a few clips of them.

tim Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 09:46 AM EST

Do people actually read, it says Alba and Black will be the cast of the movie the Office workers watch, they aren't going to interact. It's probably comprable to a cameo for both Alba and Black. And I agree with the previous post, people don't know what jump the shark, dues ex machina, etc mean. I think they believe it makes them sound smarter

grammar police Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:44 AM EST

Not only is it obvious that some people don't know what "jump the shark" means, it is also obvious that some people don't know how to use quotes. When you are speaking, you sometimes say (with finger gestures) quote, or as the last poster stated, "quote on quote". However, when writing, simple quotation marks will suffice for setting the phrase apart.

As a side note, I love The Office, and I plan to be watching, guest stars or not.

Edward Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:11 AM EST

You guys have to understand that this is the post super bowl episode.A guest star is a must.NBC is pulling out all the stop to gurantee successful ratings and can you blaim them. When Grey's Anatomy had their post super bowl episode they had Christina Ricci guest star because the network is looking for something that will make the episode more special.Lets be honest the ratings for this show is not really that good and this episode might give it the extra boost it deserves. If your devoted fan then you will stand by the show even if quote on quote it "jumped the shark".

Mike Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 03:14 AM EST

I'm not a fan of the show, however I'll watch the show just for JA!!! I don't care what the haters say, she is incredible!!! Love her work.

KC Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:48 AM EST

It seems as if only a few are actually reading the article, it has the staff watching a movie featuring Alba and Black, wouldn't necessarily consider that to be a standard guest star appearance. Also, maybe everyone shouldn't use the phrase "jump the shark" unless they have a clue what it means.

Joel Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:30 AM EST

I watch the show anyway, but putting it a hot actress like Jessica Alba? Genius! All this talk of "jump the shark" is ridiculous. Give it a chance, people!

KAM Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 01:11 AM EST

she's a terrible actress. and the Office is a funny show, they don't NEED movie stars to up their ratings. i'll watch it, because i love the show, but my bet is that it will be one of my least favorite episodes. assuming of course they spend more time than needed focusing on the stars and not the actual cast. i'll be happy if they appear for less than 5 seconds and the Dunder Mifflin co pokes fun at them. that would make more sense

Luisa Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:44 AM EST

The Office isn't the type of show that would benefit or easily incorporate big-name guest stars, so this seems like a mistake. Of course, it'll draw stupid viewers who are all "Oh, look, movie star!" and watch after that stupid football game. By all means, appeal to them. Ugh.

awesome Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:05 AM EST

yuk. i would have to agree with the whole "jump the shark" thing. why? why must nbc ruin every good show?

Tristan Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 12:00 AM EST

This is horrible. Absolutely awful. I love The Office-it's genius. Why on earth is Jessica "Don't call me Latina" Alba going to ruin all that is right and pure? What tragic news to hear right before I go to bed.
(Jack Black would be interesting though-but seriously, do they really need to "Will & Grace" the show?)
Sad.

Winsey Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:52 PM EST

I am not excited about the office guest stars. They don't need the extra people, but I would hope that the writers would be able to handle them in a good way. It will have to be an out of dunder mifflin show for so many new people.

D.White Schrute Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

The Office does not need celebrity cameos to make the episodes any better or funnier than they already are. But, it may generate interest in people who do not watch the show already. As fans, we want that. The greater the cume, the longer the network will order episodes. Thank you. Oh and More Andy, More Andy. More Andy.

josh Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:28 PM EST

i'm not too excited about the celebrity guests but it will probably get good ratings for the show. and i'll definitely be watching!

Huuked on Phonix Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:22 PM EST

Jump. The. Shark.

Noel Soloria Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:18 PM EST

I would certainly watch the show just to see her.

Noel Soloria Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:17 PM EST

I would certain watch the show just for her.

UGH Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

Worst. idea. ever. Greg Daniels and co. have to resort to bringing in these also-ran actors? Has the show fallen that far? I guess the answer is yes.

Johnothan Pedak Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:41 PM EST

Mike, Dwight, Jim and Pam. All you need!

Michael Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:37 PM EST

Well, Jessica Alba sucks so I don't see what is exciting about that. Jack Black has been going down hill for awhile now and with this season, so has The Office. It is still funny just not as great as it used to be.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

I am hesitant to embrace big-name stars making guest appearances on the show. I think one of the reasons that the show works so well is that we don't know the actors (besides Steve Carell... maybe) as anybody but their characters. It adds a touch of connection to them that other, big-name shows don't typically offer. However, the casting does sound interesting. I would have watched the episode regardless, but now I will watch it more intently.

LA Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

Why are you reporting this like it's good news? It's the WORST news. This sucks harder than HIMYM stunt-casting with Britney.

legnayram Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

I am excited about this episode. Why are so many people freaking out? She's not even going to be with the actual cast... and hey it said BOOTLEGGED! If everyone thinks she's such a terrible actress, then this role should be perfect. If she was at Dunder Mifflin, there would be Kevin, Creed, and Michael to hit on her which would be similar to the Amy Adams storyline from Season 1 but still hilarious. I personally think there's nothing wrong with her. She was pretty decent in "The Sleeping Dictionary."

Jackable Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:35 PM EST

This message is for Impeach Obama.
Hey he isn't even the president YET...guess you can predict the future...or maybe you just pre(dick) the future...you are bitter and sad in that you have to bring up negative comments about our future president even in the entertainment section....get on with your life IF you have one.
Have a great day and Jack Black is often funny as heck and Jessica Alba is hot and was actually not bad in Dark Angel...I will probably DVR the episode just to watch the bootleg movie that the 2 stars are going to be in in the episode of The Office.

Elana Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:30 PM EST

Jessica Alba is so hot. Even if she isnt the greatest actress or comedian, im sure steve carrel can do something funny with her, he loves those hot girls. So i will for sure watch that epidsode. Especially after this weeks episode which was just amazing. A great christmas episode, Phyllis's party tops all of Angela's combine. And the intervention was amazing. Micheal loves "helping"

elle Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

talk about jumping the shark!

J.S. Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

According to TV.com....CLORIS LEACHMAN too!!!

Phil Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

I was very happy with the Jack Black news, but finding out Jessica Alba is going to be on The Office, that was a little sickening. She's incredibly attractive, and I understand that that's the only reason she manages to ever find work, but she's a terrible actress, and she's never been intentionally funny. I really she's confined to just a few seconds of the bootlegged movie at a time. I would rather see Dwight and Angela getting it on like rabbits in a beet farm than Jessica Alba on one of my favorite shows. In fact, can they rescind this decision, and instead use the money they would have paid her to sign Amy Ryan on to do another arc or to be a series regular.

Michael Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

Its already pretty awkward, now it will get even more awkward. But, no doubt, it will definitely be great for 'The Office' to have them on it.
Can't wait:)

Jim Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

I would watch "The Office" with or without Jack Black and Jessica Alba but I think there one-time presence will add some star power to an already good show.

alyourpal` Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:00 PM EST

SInce im an office addict, you basically could not force me to not watch the SB episode.
Personally I think jessica alba is meh with no acting abilities.
and does anyone think that Amy adams, who guest starred in season 1 should come back for this episode? she actually has talent

Jamie Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:59 PM EST

Watch The Dark Knight full movie here!

http://missedashow.com/2008/12/batman-the-dark-knight-full-movie-watch-here/

jules Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

Are you freakin' kidding me? I thought the appearance of Jack Black was a cry for help, but this is ridiculous. She's not even an actress. Who's next? Borat? Madonna? Dubya?
Please, "Office" writers. Go back to the way it used to be. Don't resort to hacks to bring in one-night-stand viewership.

Ed Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

meh. I watch the show anyway but any guy who would watch a show that they've never seen before solely because Alba is in it will be too drunk after the SB to care.

Victor Schwartzman Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

Fun is fun, why not? Except, PLEASE, don't mention the Fantastic Four, eh?

Meg Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 06:16 PM EST

Um...she's not going to be doing that much, they need a star to appear in a bootlegged movie, that's it...I don't think it's a huge deal. I'd watch it anyway just because I love the show.

Me Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

Wow: Watched the office once...pretty good show. Alba/Black...neither would make me watch the show or not watch it...don't care either way. What I can say, based on the blogs below...the current audience enforces that I would not watch it. Please never count me among such hateful people. What a bunch of pathetic judgemental humans, getting their panties all up in a bunch over OH MY GOD A PERSON IS GOING TO BE ON A SHOW!

Grow the F# Up!

Kaite Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:55 PM EST

people are commenting about the show now jumping the shark. Just NOW? It jumped awhile ago. Not the same show from season 1&2. I still watch, it has it's moments. I'm glad that those two are not going to be at the office but in a movie they watch, won't be as bad.

BT Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

Wow, almost every one is being really weird about this! Even though I'm a "guys that asks like a chick" (that was rude, btw) I should say that I am fairly excited about this, because I have faith in the writers that they will be as awesome as usual! Man, The Office fans (of which I am one) can be so judgy! But I understand why people are so protective; TV shows can get so weird so fast.

renee Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

I'll be watching because I'm a Office Fan, but I really don't like Jessica Alba. Jack Black varies, for me. Generally he's fun, as long as he's not too over the top. As a non-sports person, I could care less that it's on after the super bowl, or has anything to do with the Super bowl. I'll tune in once the super bowl's over (or catch it later on my DVR).

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

I would prefer if the show focused on Michael and Co. but it's not like I'll tune out just because Alba and Black will be appearing...i just hope they fit in well and the ep doesn't become overbearing.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

COME ON.. NO ONE THOUGHT SHE WAS FUNNY IN GOOD LUCK CHUCK?

BHM1304 Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

FONZIE IS REVVING UP THE CHOPPER NOW!!!!

Cheryl Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

Jessica Alba, no talent. Jack Black, ditto. I'll skip it that night, or are the writers going to be on permanent vacation?

TJ Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:25 PM EST

Did anyone read the article? They ONLY APPEAR IN A MOVIE THE OFFICE STAFF IS WATCHING. It's almost like a middle finger to the notion of stunt casting.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

wow, I can't believe you all! HATERS!

j Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

jumping the shark ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Not a girly-man Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

First of all, the person who keeps writing to people who disagree with this casting move and call them girly-men or whatever is a moron. Hell, I am gay (and not a girly man, I just like to get it on with dudes more than chicks) and I think Alba is freaking smoking hot. And I understand why NBC would put her on there for ratings alone. But I guess some guys can get their minds off their dicks for a second and realize that The Office has seemed to be above cheap ploys like this. What's wrong with getting someone like Anne Hathaway, who is hot and can actually act?!

Jennifer Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:15 PM EST

*Jerky Jerk Face*:

I agree. While Jessica Alba is attractive, Jenna Fischer is just stunning in my opinion.

rcraig Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

Sounds like fun...I love Jack Black and I'm sure Jessica Alba will be great- jeez, some people are stressing over this-just enjoy! Oh, and the geezer who whined about the UK Office being better- OMG, seriously dude, even Gervais agrees it's better so get with the times! That argument is so old and lame.

Lee Harvey Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

$top the Bu$h Crime Family!

chiggery Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

the office is hilarious. whether it be with or without guest star appearances, i will be watching.

Chilax Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

Did anybody read the part of the article that stated, "is joining Black in the cast of the BOOTLEGGED movie the Dunder Mifflin staff try to watch during the workday". For those upset, she obviously is in the show for a small amount of time. But who cares...she is hot

Ann Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 04:07 PM EST

Worst thing I've heard all day! Jessica Alba?!?! Really???

Impeach Obama Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

Just as Obama is the worst president ever, so is this show. It's the worst.

Jess Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

Big Matt - Seriously?

You're five years too late to the party.

Jerky Jerk Face Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

Jenna Fischer is way hotter and more attractive than Jessica Alba will ever be.

Susy Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

Isn't this a sign of "jumping the shark"?????

Big Matt Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

The Office isnt anywhere near as good as the UK version so who cares?

Party Mike Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

TERRIBLE idea. I remember when the show was incredibly realistic. Now it's a terrible, unrealistic sitcom.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

I think it's a great idea honestly. More likely to watch with her and Jack Black in, though mostly for Jack Black. Jessica Alba is a poor actress. Unemotive and relatively bland.

cameron Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:32 PM EST

Alba is sexy and I will watch but she is such a mean person to the press when she is out and about, its like she thinks she is an A list actor when in reality we all know she is a C list

xsikal Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

Sounds good to me. She's lovely. And honestly... the Office is hardly a show predicated on the sterling quality of its actors. She'll do fine with what she's given, and I trust the writers to make the actual situation itself humorous.

Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:23 PM EST

"think that"

To carl Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

"Maybe many EW writers are guys and should be working for Maxim instead." And you, uh, think about Michael Ausiello, do you? Huh. Hear something new every day.

graeme Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 03:17 PM EST

people...don't worry about the stunt casting thing. Are people reading how Black and Alba will be used? The office staffers will be watching a movie online that stars the actors. It's not like they are gonna be "live" in the office. It's not gonna amount to much.
