Breaking: Clock keeps ticking for 'Eleventh Hour'

Dec 1, 2008, 07:42 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories:

Eleventhhour_l Eleventh Hour will be around for at least 18 this season.

A CBS insider confirms that the network has ordered five additional episodes of the freshman drama, bringing its season 1 total to 18.

Since premiering in October, Hour has averaged 12 million viewers and ranks No. 20 among all prime-time shows. Sure, it loses a chunk of its sizeable CSI lead in, but, hey, 12 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at.

Are you among the 12 million regularly tuning in? If so, riddle me this: Should I be watching? The pilot was just okay for me.

jamaly Tue, May 5, 2009 at 04:42 PM EST

I personally like both shows and watched every episode of both... http://subaru.hostbeat.eu/bofener.html yahoo

carla Mon, May 4, 2009 at 01:14 PM EST

I really hope this show isn't cancelled. It's one of the best new shows this season! Love it!!

nicewolf64 Thu, Apr 30, 2009 at 11:24 PM EST

I really like this show. I think the chemistry between the leads is much better than that on Fringe, and the stories are better.

veronica Fri, Apr 3, 2009 at 01:27 AM EST

you should watch the show it is so great especially with the good looking Dr. Hood lol but really I used to watch CSI until 11th hour came on. now its the only thursday night show I watch other than survivor but I would def. suggest it. p.s. sorry for any typo's I'm typing on my phone

Becky Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 01:49 PM EST

This is one of the best shows on TV right now. Love it, Love it, Love it

eldisa Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 12:35 PM EST

I love this show, love Rufus Sewell; hope show is not cancelled; how can you compare it to Fringe -- totally different and Fringe is so "far-fetched" and unbelievable; I had to quit watching it -- so ridiculously stupid.

nick Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 09:35 PM EST

Watch Fringe instead.... much much MUCH better show...Comes on tuesdays after house on fox

scrlett Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 05:53 PM EST

It's an okay show. I was quiet excited about it, because I very much enjoying the Brit version. But my conclusion is BBC did it much better. The original actor was quirky fun and you really paid attention. I was quite dispointed with the US version. Also, there is no chemistry between the two leads! If there is nothing else interesting on I'll watch, but usually fall right asleep. Not a steller recommendation. Do yourself a favor, and check out the BBC version

Erin Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I like the show - I don't love it. I do find it interesting to see the science/chemical sides to things. Some epis are better than others and hold your focus more. The athlete one wasn't too great. The actors are ok - but either they have rotten chemistry or they need to fix the writing for the tv chemistry.

KSC76 Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:47 AM EST

I'm not A very big fan of Eleventh Hour I have watch since its been on I like NUMB3RS & Ghost Whisperer allot better.

Karen Cerana. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:41 AM EST

I'm not A really big fan Of Eleventh Hour I have watch it since its been on I like NUMB3RS allot better.

Helen from Hawai'i Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

Now I'm sure of my feeelings after the last episode with the athletes: dumb, dumb show with equally dumb characters.

Marge Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

Sounds like a good show - sorry I didn't start watching it.

Mike Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 09:20 PM EST

I like seeing the Jericho comments on here! I LOVED that show! CBS dropped the ball on that one...too bad. They should make a Jericho movie for TV.

Ana Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

Rufus Sewell brings the pretty, that's for sure. And it may be an intelligent, well-written show. But I find it dull. Even Rufus sounds bored delivering his lines. It's one of those shows I really want to like, but find it to be missing something that makes it click for me.

Tim Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

I like the show. It is intelligent and well written. What isn't very intelligent is the network's decision to stop offering full episodes online.

lilybelle Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 06:38 PM EST

I love this show. Yes Rufus Sewell is a treat, but the show is intelligent. It raises interesting issues often about science and the public interest. Mistakes, sure, but it is far more intelligent than the usual tv fare.

lilybelle Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Sharon Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

I love this show one of the best new
show on this year.

troi Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 06:21 AM EST

Who cares about plot and storyline? Rufus Sewell is the reason to watch!

Grace Smith Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

I love this show. It has interesting plot lines, even if they are far fetched. But seeing as this show is about crazy scientific things, I don't mind. Just sit back and enjoy. Not to mention it's about time we got to enjoy watching Rufus Sewell on a regular basis.

ccross Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

I'm with you, Mary--why ruin the effectiveness of Rufus Sewell's amazing voice with an accent he doesn't need? Really wish CBS would repost the eps online along with Mentalist, as I really have no other way to watch with my schedule, and I've apparently been missing much.

Helen from Hawaii Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

I keep hoping it will just get better like Patrick stewart's character. but he sure seems dim-witted and the "kick-ass" FBI agent is a total waste.

the writing is pretty awful and the medical technical mistakes are incredibly bad! How often can you hang a chest x-ray backwards (like in "Scrubs") or be unable to do even a reasonable CPR scene?

thorswitch Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 12:45 PM EST

I enjoy Eleventh Hour for the most part, & plan to continue watching it, but sometimes I do get a bit tired of its "plug & play" formula: Our heroes are called to a crime scene with a weird scientific twist, we are introduced to another character who is at risk of becoming the next victim, Hood develops a theory, realizes that there's another person out there about to become a victim, and now the team must not only solve the crime, but also identify who the potential victim is so they can save his/her life in the last few minutes of the episode. It'd just be nice if they'd change things up sometimes. But other than that, it's a really cool show, and I very much enjoy the characters and the kinds of scientific crimes they come up with.

Susan Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 12:50 AM EST

The BBC version was far superior.

Francine Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:42 PM EST

I think you should give this show a chance it has gotten a lot better since the pilot.

Cheryl Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

I absolutely love this show... it's one of my favorites during the week and I've looked forward to watching the episodes a little more each week since the pilot. I definitely think you should add it to your list! Rufus Sewell is an amazing actor and I'm really starting to enjoy the dynamic between his character and Marley Shelton's. Excellent television!

spikook Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

I am blown away by the comparisons to Fringe. They're nothing alike. Just because the word science is thrown around in both shows doesn't make them the same. I personally like both shows and watched every episode of both. They're completely different. I watch Fringe for X-files feel. Though I personally think there is ZERO connection between the 2 main characters. zilch! Which is ok because I don't watch it for them, I watch it for the plot twists.

If you only watched the first couple episodes of 11th Hour then you can't really say what it's like NOW, can you??? Agreed with the others who say the show has greatly improved. The character development and chemistry is kicking in and I'm liking the show more and more each week. Give it a couple chances NOW and see if you like it. But don't like or dislike it because you like another TV show. That's stupid. Why can't we have both shows to enjoy???

Biggun Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:39 PM EST

You have to give it more than 1 viewing to determine if it's any good.I like the show and as far as the female lead goes, being "stiff" comes with the job.Not all jobs are fun and games.Relax and give it a chance!

jessie Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:33 PM EST

I love this show. I saw the British version and the casting is so much better on this one. The pilot could have been better so don't use that as your only benchmark.

Colin Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:06 PM EST

You know? It's sad to learn that Gregory Smith will be in the final [I still can't believe it!!!] episode of Eli Stone through another website and not from you!!! C'mon! As an Everwood-lover yourself you should be more on the loop about this kind of things!

t3hdow Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:56 PM EST

Eleventh Hour is a bore to watch compared to Fringe (even if Fringe delves more into the supernatural, its cases are much creepier). It doesn't do anything to differentiate itself from the other near indistinguishable procedural crime dramas on CBS; and its dim, dreary tone, on top of the personality devoid characters, don't add any flavor to the show. Perfect for a TV show to lead me into a nap, but worthless, even as background noise. I can't believe CBS gave up Jericho for this inert junk.

carebear Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

Should you be watching? Eh, I don't know. I personally really enjoy it, but the plots are a little weak. The thing that makes it worthwhile is Rufus Sewell. He's such an amazing actor and I just love the character of Jacob Hood. I just wish they'd work a little harder on the plots.

franklyodd Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:06 PM EST

As one of the 12 million (I think my number is 1,666,666), definitely watch it - it improves with every episode.

BUBBLES Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:03 PM EST

HOUR IS GOOD BUT DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO FRINGE ON FOX. THEY ARE VERY SIMULAR BUT HOUR SEEMS TO LACK THE CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS AND DRAMA.

Jenny Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

Tune in! It has gotten a lot better since it's pilot. The chick needs to get that stick out of her... posture but Rufus is so great that I don't mind. LOL.

Mary Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 10:17 AM EST

I really enjoy the show, especially since it is getting better each episode.
I don't like the comparison to Fringe, because although I like Fringe, it really bends reality. I think Fringe falls more into the X-files, conspiracy (paranormal) category.
Eleventh Hour does bring a different twist to the average crime show, but instead of way out science, works into more believable scientific explanations.
Rufus Sewell is pretty good, but man I wish they had let him keep his accent. His character seems more developed and comfortable in his situation.
I think Marley Shelton's character development has been the factor in the improvement of the show, although the character isn't quite there yet.
A little more history of why these two were paired would be nice. Is she his first handler, or the latest? Is this a new arrangement, or an ongoing one?
I really do like the show and prefer it to Fringe.

Alexandra Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 10:10 AM EST

As a loyal Aushole, I think you'd like this program. It has gotten better since the first episode. Though, on occasion, Rachel's acting leaves something to be desired, but I'm able to look past that, because Rufus Sewell is just SO amazing.

bostonbean Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 10:05 AM EST

I love Rufus Sewell too but stopped watching after the awful pilot. But after reading all the comments below, I've been convinced to give it another chance and catch up with the episodes. Shows do improve.

brian_izzle Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

this show will loose its ratings once Lost starts....(can't wait) it will make it to a second season before its history.... Fringe is a way better show

Lina Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 09:00 AM EST

When it first aired I thought "CBS knock-off of Fringe" but it's really not anything like Fringe. And I completely agree with the folks that have said it's gotten better over time. If you checked out an earlier epsidode and thought it was okay, I'd encourage you to check back in now. It seems like the show has found its footing. I TiVo everything and have recently discovered that it's moving up my own watching priority list.

susu005 Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:57 AM EST

I tolerate it.. I really liked the original UK version and recognize the plots from there with minor tweaks-
no skin off my nose if it were to go away.

Noa Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:57 AM EST

nah. Life on Mars is ten times better.

rdwilliams Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:16 AM EST

Nah, don't bother watching. Fringe is the same thing, only a zillion times better

ccross Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 07:34 AM EST

I adore Rufus Sewell in pretty much anything he does, good and bad, and while I enjoy the 11th Hour very much--at least while it was viewable online--it's no Fringe, and actually kind of comes off as CBS' knock-off answer to Fringe, whose production budget appears three times more than that for 11th. I often find I don't really care what's going on in the episode as long as I can watch Rufus work. The UK version starred Patrick Stewart, so it can't be all bad! ;-) Any news when CBS is going to repost Mentalist and 11th Hour back online so I can catch up on what I missed? Poor belated recorder was destroyed in a recent move. It shall be sorely missed.

AM Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 05:51 AM EST

It comes across as the UK-ripoff of Bones - only with reversed roles (and Hood being a different kind of scientists) - remade. I do like it a lot but it's not on my must-see list (Bones is and so is the other, more fun US-remake-of-a-UK-show - the fab Life on Mars, better than the original).

11th Hour certainly lacks some additional characters which leads me to question its legs. It's more in-your-face didactic and issue-oriented -- is that your cup of java?

Lisa Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 04:51 AM EST

I don't watch CBS since they cancelled JERICHO.

KD Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 04:03 AM EST

It's not bad, I enjoy it but I wouldn't cry if it was cancelled. It's very procedural and stand alone, which I tend not to like, but well done overall it keeps my attention.

Mary Ann Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 03:38 AM EST

I also started watching only because it came out after "C.S.I." and got hooked. Order many more, please!

QuickDraw Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 03:34 AM EST

This show has become better as it progresses. Since many of my favorite shows were canceled--thanks ABC. I have really started to enjoy this one--have a heart CBS do a whole season!!

kkn Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 03:17 AM EST

I love the show. Hood and Young have great chemistry - something that I totally miss in Fringe - and also their working relationship is interesting. Also, I like the themes they tackle, like the sociopathic child, that was chilly...

Don Jariyasunant Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:41 AM EST

Boy CBS is being stingy! Why only 5 more episodes?

The show has been beating ER and Life on Mars in this timeslot and IMO creatively it's gotten alot better since the Pilot.

Again, this all could be meaningless if the actors strike early next year.

Victoria Bradley Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:48 AM EST

I love Eleventh Hour and think Rufus
Sewell's Dr. Hood is fascinating. Kudos to the show for examining very controversial subjects. I have been checking the net daily for a few weeks to see if this show is getting an order for more shows. Thanks CBS and thank you Mike for putting my mind at ease (at least for a while). I think you should give it another try - it definitely has improved.

RedRidingHood Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:37 AM EST

I like Rufus Sewell, but the show was kind of disappointing to me. It's good and all but there's no real "science fiction" in it, so it's really just another "crime drama" and those are a dime a dozen it seems on every network. My roommate likes it a lot, but she likes most crime dramas.

Doug Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 12:10 AM EST

It isn't bad. It is a lot like a more realistic Fringe, but that realism causes it to lose that charm that Fringe has too. Rufus Sewell is very good, Marley Shelton is a good actress that was probably miscast for this, but her acting isn't bad here, the character just seems a bit off, like the writers aren't really sure how to handle her. It can be a bit heavy on the exposition which can be grating when Hood is dealing with supposedly other smart people, but overall it is a good way to wind down from Supernatural or the NBC comedies.

Sherman Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 11:09 PM EST

I agree with t't you should watch chuck instead. It has grown a great deal and its too bad it lost viewers from season one to two

nicole Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:43 PM EST

i like it. not as much as the mentalist but i still look to see it every week.

Joe Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

I watch it for Marley Shelton. They should give her her own show.

Nicole Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:15 PM EST

Much like every new show on TV, I started watching 11th Hour. I watched the first two episodes before I gave it up due to an overflowing DVR and not enough time to watch everything.

I didn't think it was that great. It kinda reminds me of Fringe only I like Fringe a lot better. I agree with what's been said. I'm not big on Hood and I don't think the chemistry is there.

j t Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:04 PM EST

I do not care for the way the female character is written. She does not seem very realistic. They either need to change her character, or maybe the actress. I'd rate this show OK, but nothing great. They have certainly cancelled much better shows.

paul Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 10:00 PM EST

This show has really come up since it started. It has a lot of potential for the future, hopefully they don't cut it because then that would be a shame.

Nina Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

I liked the version from the BBC with Patrick Stewart.

Cleo Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:31 PM EST

I have to agree it was a bit shaky with the pilot but it has gotten a lot better. Its a little bit X-files little bit CSI and pretty good TV.

Kimberly Chapman Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:22 PM EST

It's mediocre, but acceptable enough to knit to. If I ran out of time to watch TV (as in, if I ran out of knitting), this would be the first to go. Fringe is much better (although granted, I've seen Fringe before when it was called the X-Files). Fringe's resident doctor, while insane, approaches explanations of the science in a much more pleasant manner than 11th's Dr. Hood. Hood is a bit of an arrogant jerk, explaining things in a pedantic, overstated way, even to other scientists. The bang-over-the-head exposition is indicative of less skilled writers. I wouldn't cry if the show left, nor would I be surprised.

jscott Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:53 PM EST

This show has steadily improved since the pilot. Give it a chance. A lot better tha some of the alternatives.

Sherry Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

I was iffy about this show at first, but it's gotten a lot better with each episode. Now I'm hooked!

Modwild Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:38 PM EST

I record it and watch it the next night when I'm bored. However, I miss a lot of the story because it just doesn't hold my interest. Sometimes I start it and then the end credits are rolling, and I realized I missed the entire thing. Delete!

Jenny Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

Great news! I'm really enjoying this freshman drama.

jake Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

i'm a bit surprised that they would hold on to this show, it doesn't pull in high ratings and it doesn't garner critical acclaim. It would seem like numbers or without a trace or the unit would do better in it's time slot. or better yet. Move Christine and Gary to Thursdays at 8 and movie survivor to wed -- but I guess that is another story.

Krystal Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

YAY! More totally not being able to put together two words whilst being enthralled by Rufus Sewell's eyes.

Krystal Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

YAY! More totally not being able to put together two words whilst being enthralled by Rufus Sewell's eyes.

Jane Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:13 PM EST

This isn't my favorite show, but it has gotten a lot better since the pilot.

Mark Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:10 PM EST

I watch the show as long as it is around. But I could take it or leave it. I wouldn't be disappointed if it were to get cancelled. Usually shows like this do well when there is a ton of chemistry between the two leads (think Bones or Fringe). But the leads here have absolutely no chemistry. Dump the blond and get him a new handler. In the episode where she was possibly infected and could have been on the verge of dying, I found myself rooting for the virus!

erin Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:02 PM EST

I love this show!!! you should totally be watching.

T.T Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 08:00 PM EST

how about you concentrate on chuck instead?

Lynn Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

I love Eleventh Hour. I started watching because I didn't have another show on Thursdays at 10, now I never miss an episode!
