Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Lost,' 'House,' 'Pushing Daisies,' 'Friday Night Lights,' 'Heroes,' 'CSI: NY,' 'The Office,' 'Life on Mars,' and More!

Dec 16, 2008, 11:51 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: Ask Ausiello

Askausiellolost_lQuestion: All of these Lost promos are getting me super pumped for January! Any more news on casting or plot twists to get me even more excited? -- Sam
Ausiello:
How about a scoop that's equal parts casting news and plot twisty? Per my Lost mole, we're going to meet Jack's grandfather for the first time in episode 7! He'll be played by actor Raymond Barry, who's probably best known for his role as Tom Cruise's dad in Born on the Fourth of July.

Question: Does Bryan Fuller's decision to rework Pushing Daisies' finale to have more closure mean that there is less of a chance that there will be a comic book continuation of the series? -- Shawn
Ausiello:
No. Although closure will come to nearly all of Daisies' main characters in the final episode, Bryan still plans to keep the franchise alive in comic book form.

Question: I was wondering if you have heard anything new about Mad Men. I am going through serious withdrawals. -- Jo
Ausiello:
There's still no deal in place for Matthew Weiner to return as show-runner, if that's what you're asking. But this may satisfy your Mad cravings, even though it's not specifically about the Emmy-winning masterpiece: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Maggie Siff, a.k.a. Don Draper's season 1 mistress, has been tapped to play the daughter of Harvey Keitel's ornery lieutenant on Life on Mars.

Question: Please, please, please tell me there's a chance T.R. Knight is not leaving Grey's Anatomy! Will they really let one of the original five leave? -- Virginia
Ausiello:
Let's ask Knight's co-star, Eric Dane: "I have not heard confirmation [that he's leaving] yet. I don't know anything about when or how. If that happens, of course I would be bummed. He's a great guy to work with and a great character for the show, but he's gotta do what he feels is right." For his part, Dane has no plans to flee Seattle Grace before his contract expires -- particularly now that Mark is McSteaming up the sheets with Lexie. "It is a good place to work and there are good people behind and in front of the cameras. I'm not going anywhere. I just started getting some action again. Why would I leave?"

Question: There's an official law in the NYPD that married couples are forbidden from working together. Someone in the couple has to transfer to another department/precinct. So, if Danny and Lindsay are getting married on CSI: NY, how are they going to work together at all if they're breaking an official law? Does this mean one of them is going to leave the lab for good? -- K.C.
Ausiello:
You may want to double-check your facts, KC. While it's true that such a rule existed at one time, it has since been dropped, according to CSI: NY executive producer Pam Veasey. "Our former NYPD Detective John Dove, based on his own experiences and confirming with The Chief's office, says there is no department law that two detectives can't work in the same department and be married. This was our belief when we started this story." Is it just me or did Ms. Veasey just confirm that Danny and Lindsay will eventually tie the knot?

Question: So, who's playing the role of Catherine Howard on The Tudors? Surely, someone at the show responded to your plea for scoop in last week's Ask Ausiello. -- Ted
Ausiello:
They sure did, Ted. A well-placed (and, as promised, totally anonymous) Tudors spy e-mailed me to say up-and-coming UK actress Tamzin Merchant scored the plum part, and she'll debut in season 3's eighth episode. In other news, I would just like to take this opportunity to say key grip assistants are the unsung heroes of Hollywood.

Question: I thought your mailbag could benefit from a little more variety given that half or your questions last week were solely devoted to Grey's Anatomy. So here's a list of other shows that I think are overdue for spoil goodies. Please pick the most anticipated one in your opinion...or you can make my day and spoil them all: 90210, Fringe, Greek, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Ugly Betty -- Sandra
Ausiello:
What do I look like to you? Santa? You're gonna take some AmTeen prattle and only some AmTeen prattle, and you're gonna be happy about it. Deal? Okay, then. In an upcoming episode, titled "One Night in Band Camp," a cute young girl tries to go all American Pie on Ricky, but, sufficeth to say, they don't end up making beautiful music together. Also, Molly Ringwald is getting a potential new love interest, and it's Cynthia Nixon's onetime Sex and the City boy toy, Skipper Ben Weber!

Question: When is Greek returning? I miss the angsty college students of Cyrus-Rhodes University. Got any scoop to tide me over until class is back in session? -- Jon H.
Ausiello:
Sure do. Shortly after the show returns in March, you'll be treated to an "outing" called "Isn't It Bro-mantic?" in which Calvin's super hot, super charming new roommate reveals that he's gay.

Question: Ugly Betty scoop you have been seriously lacking on? -- Sarah
Ausiello:
Yes, yes, Yoda, your point I get. So here's a little preview all gussied up as a guessing game. Since the show is currently casting about for a journalism bigwig and a female bookworm -- the latter could recur -- I'm thinking Betty makes a new friend at a journalism seminar. Your turn. What do you think this means? (Seriously, I have no idea.)

Question: Last Monday's episode of Gossip Girl was devastating! I don't know how I'll wait until January. Please give me some good news to hold me over! -- Alyssa
Ausiello:
Lily and Rufus' love child is coming to town! Eventually! According to one of my anonymous Gossip gurus, Eric, Serena, Jenny and Dan's long lost half sib is not expected to show up until April or May at the earliest. Also, I'm told no final decision has been made about the little bastard's gender, but, c'mon, it's got to be a girl. For the catfight potential alone

Question: Can you give us any hints on the Heroes return you teased in last week's Ask Ausiello? -- Sasha
Ausiello:
Sure. The answer is contained somewhere within my exclusive Bryan Fuller Q&A. Happy hunting!

Question: So, as I was watching last week's episode of Friday Night Lights, I was once again reminded that the people who choose the Emmy and Golden Globe nominations are dumb! Agreed? -- Tara
Ausiello:
Agreed. FNL is on fire this season, and it sucks that Globe voters failed to recognize that. In fact, in EW's annual best and worst issue (on sale Friday), Smash's farewell episode is singled out by yours truly as one of the best hours of television all season. It was a close call between that ep and the Jeffrey Reiner-directed episode 8, which featured my favorite FNL scene of all time. It was the one where Eric and Tami came to an agreement that buying that fancy new house would be a terrible mistake. The subtle nuances that Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler brought to what could have easily been a throwaway scene just blew my mind. I've watched it, like, 11 times. And there's a good chance I'll make it a perfect dozen today. It's that good. On the FNL spoiler front, Landry and Tyra's looming reunion gets sealed with a sorta-kiss in tonight's episode. And looking ahead to the finale, a beloved character whose name begins with E or T and is cited somewhere in this answer will be fired from his/her high profile job.

Question: Please tell us anything you know about Lauren Graham's as-of-yet untitled comedy on ABC. Will it really happen? -- Michelle
Ausiello:
Provided Warner Bros. and/or Jenny Bicks don't claim the concept infringes on the intellectual property that is the late, great Men in Trees, yes, I believe it will happen. We may have to wait a while though. As you know, Lauren is headed to Broadway this February in a revival of Guys & Dolls, so the earliest this thing could get on the air -- and I'm just guessing here -- is next January. But, hey, LG's worth the wait!

Question: Any news on a possible return of Amy Ryan to The Office? -- Amy
Ausiello:
As luck would have it, my colleague, Adam Vary, just asked Ryan that exact question. Here's her response: "We don’t have plans for it, but, you know, there were niceties exchanged about wanting to. And then I don't know what one would write for that, because they belong together, but there has to be conflict. Someone's going to screw it up, I suppose."

Question: A bunch of us House fans are debating whose bathroom House is in when he takes a bath in the Jan. 19 episode. Based on the promo Fox aired at the end of last week's episode, I think it Cuddy's bathroom. Others, however, think it's either Wilson's or House's. Who's right? -- Erin
Ausiello:
The "Others" win! The bathroom is most definitely House's. In related news, I worry about you and your friends, Erin.

Question: Will Cuddy's happiness with the baby last, or is there more heartbreak looming? -- Naomi
Ausiello:
Things will get worse before they get better. Let's just say Cuddy's maternal instincts don't kick in immediately, and it freaks her out a little.

Question: Do you have any scoop on the upcoming season of Scrubs? -- Rachel
Ausiello:
In only her second episode as the new hospital chief, Courteney Cox does the unthinkable: She fires Janitor! And wait until you see the dude she replaces him with.

Question: What happened to Ausiello TV? Did the economic slowdown hit your budget? -- Mark
Ausiello:
We had to take a little break to sort through some, ahem, issues with our on air talent. Said issues will be painfully obvious when the next new episode premieres, either later this week or early next.

Question: Could you please give us some scoop on Numbers? -- Lauren
Ausiello:
Yes, but only because you asked nicely. John Glover will reprise his role as psychic Samuel Kraft in episode 13 when mysterious deaths among Chinese immigrant women lead the FBI into a spooky web of conspiracy. And you'll never believe who penned the episode. No, not Chad Michael Murray...Peter MacNicol!

Question: Damages is starting in a few weeks. Got any scoop? -- Dart
Ausiello:
A shocking, stalkerish link between two characters will be exposed early into season 2. Guesses? Proceed to the comments!

Question: The Big Bang Theory is my new obsession. What can you tell us? -- Irrel
Ausiello:
Two things: The ratings are going through the roof. And this guy is guest starring as a possible nemesis to Sheldon early in '09.

Question: I need some scoop on True Blood! Dish it, please. -- Katie
Ausiello:
Look who's joining the cast next season!

Question: What can you tell me about the upcoming Smallville episode, "Hex"? I hear that by some magic spell Chloe turns into Lois, which has further inflamed the rivalry between Chloe fans and Lois fans. -- Trisha
Ausiello:
Well, if that inflamed it, then this little spoiler is going to, um, er,… drive it one notch above inflamed. In one scene from the ep, Clark stares lovingly into Chloe's eyes, but only because he thinks it's Lois. It's at that moment that Chloe learns how hard Clark has fallen for Lois. Um, awkward!

OK, that's a wrap! I leave you this week with some good news and some bad news. First, the bad: Ask Ausiello is taking the next two Wednesdays off on account of Santa Claus. Now the good: Ausiello Files is staying open for business throughout the holiday season! Woo-hoo! C'mon, it's going to take a lot more than the perfect storm of Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Three Kings Day, and Festivus to shut a massive operation like this down.* (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell, Lindsay Soll, Jennifer Armstrong, and Andy Patrick)

* Postings may be less frequent during this period. Happy Holidays!

Nat Sat, Mar 21, 2009 at 02:43 PM EST

Have any of you thought about this: Clark will fall in love with Lois while she is Chloe in Lois' body; so in reality Clark loves Chloe?!!! That is just sick! Why doesn't Clark replace Chloe with a laptop computer?!! Clois forever!!!

UNO! Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 01:50 AM EST

I don't understand AT ALL Cameron taking Cuddy spot. Not offense to any Cameron lovers, but she is the most annoying character, and her constant whinging and complaining, god I wanna slap her! And also, the whole House character will be changed, and let's face it, House can get Cameron to do whatever he wants. If I were Chase, I would run.

Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

Everybody should mind their own businesses! I love CSI NY (it's my fave TV show other than "Life"). I have been watching this show since Season 2 & like the storylines, characters, etc. I also have the DVDs since from Season 1. Watch the show if you like it & don't watch it, if you don't like it. Keep harsh words to yourselves & respect others. Period!

puteri Sun, Dec 21, 2008 at 02:35 AM EST

csi ny has a great storyline this year, with all of their characters. i cant wait to see d/l storyline being progress.its interesting. To anna belknap, have a safe delivery and don't be gone too long (maternity leave).Im going to miss her on screen.keep up the good work.

Sun, Dec 21, 2008 at 02:25 AM EST

i cant believe that some "people" commenting bad thing about anna pregnancy written onto the show..some people need to grow up.this is just a tv show, bashing people real life condition and actress are not good. Anyway, i bet that TPTB or the actors of csi ny didnt bother to read all the nonsense. respect some people. Some people are really fanatic about this. Just enjoy the show.if you don't like it,then don't watch.

Scarlett Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

I'm glad to hear this news about Cuddy stepping down. One of my biggest fears is that House and Cuddy 'get together'. I don't mind Cuddy ~ she's OK ~ but I don't think she's good enough for House and hope TPTB never put them romantically together ~ for any long duration, anyway. I'm all for him eventually getting back with Sela Ward.

Koala Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 09:05 AM EST

I'll be looking forward to 2009's House. It will be most interesting,to see Cameron in Cuddy's role. She's been a "fellow" for about three years,so a promotion is due,but to be the Dean of Medcine,is a bit far fetched,as she is not universally (managerially) experienced,as that position would require.I do think however,if House thinks Cameron will be a pushover,I think he'll be sadly mistaken.I do hope, they don't have a complete changing of the guard,in that Cuddy will still be around,as a mentor for Cameron. The thought of House grovelling to Cameron will be a joy to see.I almost feel sorry for him.

I know this is a relatively trivial comment, but when you go into a person's home,(particularly the kitchen)you usually see some sort of knick knacks, like product labels etc.But when Wilson was cohabitating with House, there was nothing of a personal nature to be seen.Perhaps the producers wanted to show it that way, to keep him an enigma.?

omg_ THANK YOU (AA)lOIS AND CLARK ARE SO HOT! hE NEVER LIKED CHLOE BECAUSE SHE PINED AFTER HIM LIKE A LOVE SICK PUPPY. MAYBE HE LEARNED THAT FROM HER AND DID IT TO LANA! OH WELL CHLOE DOES NOT DESERVE CLARK THEY HAVE NO CHERMISTY AND NEVER DID! CHLOE=WEAK WHINEY AND ONLY HELPS CLARK TO GET A STORY "SOME REPORTER SHE IS"! I AM SICK OF PEOPLE ACTING LIKE CHLO IS A SAINT! SHE IS A CHEAT AND A MURDER AND NO BETTER THAN SLUTTANA(LANA) DOES SHE EVEN HAVE A PURPOSSE ON THIS SHOW OTHER THAN JUST A PLOTLINE DEVICE OR SEARCH ENGINE IF NOT THAT IS SOOOOOO SAD! LOL!!

Faylinn Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 03:49 AM EST

Jaime - TPTB confirmed that there is no *law* against two people in the NYPD getting married and/or having a child. However, there seems to be a *policy* that requires spouses/parents to be in different precincts/divisions/etc.
-
So while TPTB said there's no 'law', they didn't really address the crux of KC's question (Danny and Lindsay being able to work together, which would obviously mean on the same team, under the same supervisor). If the policy exists, and TPTB seem to care enough to double-check about laws - why not also double-check about policies? Deliberately ignoring the policy for creative reasons is one thing - claiming there is no such issue in the real NYPD is different.
-
This is the intranetz. People get picky about the details. (Although we *are* talking about a show that can't seem to be bothered to write out a timeline for their characters - such details probably aren't high on their list.)

Laurie Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:48 PM EST

I am excited about so much this season! Numb3rs is looking good as well as the news from CSI NY. Thanks for keeping us updated!!! I've always been an Anna Belknap fan and she's pulled off quite a few magical moments this season. I'm so excited about what's up next--I can't stay away from this place each week (hoping, of course, for little tidbits from my favorite spoiler guru).

Jaime Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

@Court. How do you explain the use of the word law in TPTB's answer. Is it possible then they meant policy?

Kristen Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

Um, am I missing something? The headline clearly says "Life on Mars" but there's nothing on the show. Where's my Harvey???

You suck Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 06:32 PM EST

Wow ausiello, you must be an idiot, watch with kristin reported most of what you said weeks ago! sucks to be out scooped huh?

miep Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:48 PM EST

too bad that the relationship between D/L isn`t against a policy cause we would haven`t have to deal with the crap anymore.
Danny would have made a better match with any of the other female characters instead of Lindsay.
Lindsay keeps on whining and annoying with her demostrations and with her putting down of Danny.

As for AB,I used to like her as an actress but having seen her in different series,I see that she always plays the roles the same way, therefore in my opinion she lacks the talent and imagination of a good actress.
Coupled with the fact that I read and saw some interviews which her,in which she doesn`t come across as someone who actually knows what she does,I feel she should just leave the show and enjoy her family.

Court Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

@Jamie- A company cannot make laws. Laws are created by politicians within political bodies. The NYPD does not make ANY laws, they enforce the laws made by politicians. All a workplace (even the NYPD) can do is create policies for their employees to follow. Department laws and policies are not two separate things...department laws do NOT exist, only department policies. I think it is fairly clear that while the original question may have said laws, the person meant policies because, again, the NYPD does not have department laws.

Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

Do fat rolls turn you on? Is that why you keep imaginging everyone on here with them?

Jaime Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:28 PM EST

@Faylinn. Look at KC's original question.

There's an official law in the NYPD that married couples are forbidden from working together. Someone in the couple has to transfer to another department/precinct. So, if Danny and Lindsay are getting married on CSI: NY, how are they going to work together at all if they're breaking an official law? Does this mean one of them is going to leave the lab for good? -- K.C.

She never mentioned anything about any policies, she mentioned any official law, and that what TPTB were responding too.

Jaime Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

@Faylinn. Where did TPTB make a comment about any policy? They were talking about department laws, not department policies, they are two seperate things.

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Mike B, you roll out of your mom's basement and I'll give you a free shot.

Mike B Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

Sounds like R needs b***h slapped!

Fiona Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:51 PM EST

@Stephanie -- Don't bother. Don't feed the trolls.

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:43 PM EST

@Stephanie - I'm sorry, I can't see your comment over your fat rolls flopping all around.

Stephpanie Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

Obviously YOU care R, otherwise YOU wouldn't call me fat, or continuously respond to comments so rudely.

Mike B Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

I can't wait until Daisies is finally pushing up daisies. I am so sick of hearing about them. Quit asking questions about it. IT'S DONE! Lets get some scoop on some shows that are going to be around.

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:21 PM EST

@Stephanie-Wipe away your fat girl tears. No one cares.

Stephanie Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

Wow.. we're levelling insults at people now? What a "mature and grown up" way of handling things.

Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 02:00 PM EST

I think we should have a no drinking and posting policy on here. I can't even understand half of this crap.

Fiona Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 01:30 PM EST

Love the Smallville scoop! I'm so excited.

@Amber Angelini-Mathews, at least one Clois fans has been around since S-1 too. I love me some Chloe, she's a great character. But I had no interest in investing in a relationship I knew wasn't going to happen. I have always shipped Lois and Clark---in every incarnation of Superman.

I'm really glad that Chloe appears to be finding some real happiness and love with Jimmy. I think they're a perfect fit.

Kim Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:31 PM EST

I mean SERIOUSLY?! A comic book?! That is almost as depressing as Pushing Daisies being cancelled. I realize I am in serious denial here, but something has to give. It simply has to come back. sigh

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

@Aghast - You are probably fat too. You sound fat at any rate.

Aghast Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST

R, are you serious? Those are terrible things to say!

the caped crusader Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

Mr. Ausiello, could you see your way to drilling it into Mr. Fuller's big daft head that WE WANT A MOVIE AND NOT A GODDAMN COMIC. I know NBC have obviously slipped him enough dolla dollas to already completely abandon any and all efforts to save his own show but seriously. dead like me got a damn movie, us PD fans should too. The cast are a huge huge part of what makes the show so great and to exclude them from anything that may come afterwards by reducing them to pencil drawings is completely insulting to them and the fans.

Jamie Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

Watch Seven Pounds full movie here!

http://missedashow.com/2008/12/seven-pounds-full-movie-watch-here/

Faylinn Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Jaime - the point I was making is that, while the show is not 'real life', they obviously try to *emulate* real life. If there really is no department policy, then there is no policy - but I have heard conflicting information from several sources. If it *is* a policy, nothing forces the NY writers to follow it - but it would be nice, if that's the case, for them to simply say, "We're taking creative license" instead of saying the policy doesn't exist. We all know CSIs don't chase down suspects - but they haven't tried to tell us that in real life they *do*. (Also, there's a difference between a law and a policy, hence some of the continued confusion.)
-
Why does every criticism of this show have to turn into, 'The average viewer doesn't care'? Well, the 'average viewer' isn't on Ausiello's column arguing me down for being curious, having doubts or forming an opinion that isn't a glowing acceptance of everything on the show, either. Yes, it's fiction - are you reminding me or yourself?

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

Good to know the wedding will be in the court house instead of some big traditional shindig. I suppose it makes sense. If I was Danny, I wouldn't want anyone to see me marrying someone like Lindsay anyway. She probably couldn't fit down the aisle anyway.

pils Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 09:25 AM EST

Kelli, why the hell should I give AB contructice critisme? I`m not her teacher or anything,i`m a fan of the show who feels that there is one bad apple in a cast which consist of actors and actrices who know their characters inside and out.

As for the promising storyline,Danny and Lindsay were according to early spoilers suppose to have a seperate storyline,in which they both got the chance to shine, sadly AB got pregnant.

R,don`t worry,no brides dress or anything.
They are suppose to marry at a clerksoffice,if they get married.

Caoife Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

i just read somewhere that D/L will get married near the end of the series can you tell me anything about this...even as a D/L fan i think they should wait

R Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 08:57 AM EST

Ugh, there might be a wedding? Are we really going to be subjected to watching pregnant Lindsay shove her fat butt into a wedding dress? God, at least the last time Anna Belknap got pregnant and ballooned to the size of a prized heifer, they hid most of her. We were only forced to see her fat face. Now we have to put up with the porker until she gives birth. Newsflash: being pregnant doesn't mean you should stuff your fat face all the time!

Kelli Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 07:14 AM EST

@Pills. What is this promising storyline you speak of?

And stop generalizing. How do you know how old D/L fans are? You done a poll or something?

In regards to AB. It all boils down to personal taste. Personally I have nothing against constructive critisism, but I have yet to see you do that. All you seem to want to do is personally attack Anna. Nothing constructive about that.

Jaime Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 06:19 AM EST

@Faylinn. John Dove is a technical advisor for NY as well as a writer for the show.

Its clearly stated in Pam Veasys quote that John Dove confirmed with the Chiefs Office that there is no department law that dis allows marriage between two people working in the same department.

Maybe someone should contact the Chiefs Office and argue the point with them, tell them that they are wrong.

And you know what, do you really think the average viewer is going to question what laws and such are in place. I doubt they would even care. CSI NY is fiction, CSI's dont chase down and question suspects either, you want to question TPTB about that as well. Because I am pretty sure that would be breaking all kinds of department laws.

Pils Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 04:38 AM EST

Hahahaha,oh boy some teenage fans are feeling attacked by little old me.

No,I don`t hate AB because she is pregnant,I don`t care if she is pregnant every year but i do care that a promising storyline is cutting short because of the fact that she is pregnant because if some people would actually read GOOD interviews they would know it did and yes I meant for the yelling.

As for her acting, well I have seen a interview in which she said that she has a tough time grasping how Lindsay should be,plus she keeps on harping about Lindsay with Danny, instead of talking about how she would like to see Lindsay as a individual character, which shows she doesn`t know how she should act.

She is a painfull, bleeding tooth in a cast who actually know how to act.

ms Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 01:55 AM EST

Any hope for Pushing Daisies on cable? Because obviously the numbers aren't magically going to increase. Advertising is required for that, and ABC shows ZERO promos for the show anywhere. ZERO. it's unfair.
A quality show like PD deserves to be on cable. That's where all the good shows are now anyway..(hello? Golden Globes nominations)

Faylinn Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 01:00 AM EST

Anon: No, it's not 100% accurate to real life, but I assume they employ technical advisers and researchers for a reason.
-
Stephanie: True enough. The problem is that people are using ratings to justify that DL isn't hurting the show. Honestly, the ratings for S5 so far can't really be used either way since DL didn't actually show up until the past few episodes.
-
I doubt the ratings will change much. Some fans will bail on the show because of the baby drama, others will show up for the same reason. Most people will probably stay put either way. I don't like the storyline, but I'm sticking around for everybody else.
-
Oh, the things I'd put up with for Adam. :P

Mag Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:56 AM EST

Thanks Ausiello. Message recieved loud and clear, PS3. You don't want my viewership, and I will not give it to you. Ok fandom, it's time to kill Smallville.

I know Cuddy and House would be a complete disaster as an item, but wouldn't they have such fun, (the viewers too,)trying to make a baby.I say "go for it." !!

I thought the fact that this was a television show with fictional characters would be enough to let you know that it doesn't follow 100% real life. We aren't watching NY: Swat on A&E or anything.

Also, I beileve the latest complaint isn't that they can't work in the same unit, but can't work the same shifts. The show has atually alluded that the two are on opposite shifts right now. Remember the phone call last week, when Danny called Lindsay because he was running late for his shift? She'd obviously alraedy been there for awhile. In fact, I believe Lindsay said to Danny: "Aren't you supposed to be working the night shift?" Also, during Snow Day, Danny and Lindsay swapped shifts. Just because they're there at the same time doesn't mean they're working the same shift.

If McSteamy does leave, (and I hope he doesn't),let him join Private Practice with Addison. Is there any chance of seeing the "Forsyte Saga" again,it was a good series. How long will Kym Johnson remain with US DWTS.?
I hope everyone has a great Christmas/New Year.xx

Faylinn -- I'm certainly not saying the ratings are up because of D/L. I'm simply showing that the ratings are not down because of D/L.

A tickled fan Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 12:11 AM EST

Does anyone else find it hilarious the very people trying to discount opinions differing from their own by pointing out their anonymity are anonymous themselves?

The ratings average is only such because of a *few* episodes that get high ratings combined with other episodes that get far lower ones. To see how a show is doing, the ratings for *each* episode should be taken into account.

About people posting on police forums to check facts, they're being smart. Who takes what a TV network says at face value? In particular something as serious as giving misleading information about NYPD policy that can be checked out? TPTB has always claimed the CSI shows 'are realistic and believable' which gives viewers the right to question them when they are writing questionable plots then claim it's true to real life. If they had simply said from the start the show *doesn't* follow real life and is only a fictionalized parody of the NYPD, no one would be debating this.

By the way, the Crime Scene Unit is a *unit* in the *NYPD*. Amused Cop and FR are correct that a married couple can't work together in the same unit/squad/shift.

Jayne Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:57 PM EST

Thanks so much for the attention you paid to Numb3rs, BBT and CSI NY. Thank you for making the clarification. I'm stoked about the storyline of Danny and Lindsay. Thanks for your work for them this season. Can't wait for Sheldon's new Nemisis to to see what comes out of Peter MacNicole's mind!!!

Faylinn Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

Yes, the ratings are all thanks to DL, who had pretty much zero interaction until "The Box", nine episodes into the season.
-
I mean really, their true and perfect love was *where* during the beginning of this season? Clearly, if the viewers are tuning in, it can't just be about DL - we're not supposed to suggest that people would stop watching because of DL, but it's okay to imply that DL somehow upped casual viewer numbers with barely any interaction?

Stephanie Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:29 PM EST

Let's have a looksie at the ratings for CSI:NY, shall we? Without the +7 day ratings (DVR Playbacks), Season 4 was averaging 13.4 million viewers through the first 10 episodes. When you throw in the Live+7 day rating, they average 13.7 million viewers.

Season 5, through the first 10 episodes, has averaged 13.6 million viewers. The Live+7 day ratings are 14.6 million.

I don't think CSI:NY is hurting for ratings this season, by any stretch.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:03 PM EST

actually, what I said is I'll believe it when I read it. I'm not taking some anonymous internet poster at face value. If there is indeed an actual policy out there, than TPTB are spinning things. If there is no policy, some people are very good at twisting things to suit their own views.

Jaime Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:03 PM EST

Ummm. CSI's do not work out of a precinct. Check your facts. TPTB were not trying to hide anything, they were right. And if you read their wording they said. "there is no department law that two detectives can't work in the same department and be married." They said in NOT For. There is a big difference. CSI's cover the whole 5 boroughs of ny which include the whole 76 precincts. They are their own insitution.

In the end its a fricken TV show. Why would anyone go to soo much trouble to prove TPTB wrong--that they would ask questions pertaining to fictional characters on a police forum. That in itself astounds me.

In the end i highly doubt TPTB care what you think anyways.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:54 PM EST

I can see how you would find the actual NYPD policy defined further than TPTB chose to define it as false. That makes perfect sense.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

actually the ratings through episode nine were 13+ million and not the 14+ TPTB claim it was. Of course that's if you understand basic math and not the PR spin version of math. Being off by 1 million viewers is still misleading at best.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

Ah, the old MarySue/Carmine crap. What else is new? Oh, well, until I can read something official, I'll just rely on Ausiello on this one, not some anonymous internet poster who claims that only they know the truth.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:49 PM EST

It's funny how KC got pwnd when everyone thought that TPTB were correct in their assessment, but now that the actual truth (and not TPTB's spin and half truth) is out it's "who cares about the stupid details." I guess accuracy only matters if it fits with your canon-Sue, self-insert Danny/Carmine fantasies.

Jaime Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:48 PM EST

@Leena. Didnt you know that cbs uses ratings based on live plus 7 day dvr playback. Once added the average of the episodes up till episode 9 = roughly 14 million.Go check it out, some of those episodes at the start of the season once dvr playback was added jumped to over 17 million. Also you are are giving people too much credit. The casual veiwer, the ones TPTB care about, probably didnt notice the lack of D/L, L and O came back on 11/5 same night ep 6 of NY aired. That was the reasonthose veiwers are the ones that make up the ratings. Internet fans equate for nothing. That is unless they have a Neilson box. If you notice the numbers were higher before L and O came back on. L and O returned 11/5 same night as ep 6 of Ny. That what caused the drop. It had nothing to do with Danny/Lindsay.

And if you work thing out on averages, this season of NY is on average getting 1 million more viewers a week, a big increase on last season.

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

Clearly this isn't Faylinn's personal blog. It's a place for people to whine and complain about someone who doesn't share their views instead of discussing the spoilers.

Bella Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

wow, we must have a bunch of expert NYPD people around here. It's good to know with so much happening in the world that people can get their panties in a twist over a tv show. Good to know you can all research this down to the littlest detail. Perhaps if you could direct us poor, unknowlegable folks to where this fountain of information is? It's awful being in the dark on such important things.

Kelly Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

Leena, FR, and AmusedCop are totally right. The ratings are not higher this year. I averaged them out myself also. They used the first 5 episodes to make it look better than it is. As for the department guidelines. How are tptb gonna say actual NYPD officers are wrong? Are tptb gonna lie just to move ahead with DL? Yeah, that's a smart move to just dismiss the department guidelines. Clearly tptb need to check a bit further into this and we know officers can work together in the department - the New York Police DEPARTMENT. They failed to mention precincts.

Leena Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:26 PM EST

'Nerwen', you should check your facts. CSI:NY did NOT get a '20% increase in ratings due to DL'. That TVGuide article obtained its 14.5 million average by only averaging the FIRST FIVE EPISODES of season five. The ones WITHOUT any DL when CBS planned to END DL, and they got the BEST RATINGS. Think about that.

Anyone checking the ratings by the week will know by episode five, they had dropped to 11 million at most. Hardly the 14.5 average CBS claims.

FR Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:15 PM EST

NVM it's there. AMUSED COP is right BTW. It's NYPD policy married cops can't work together on the same shift. Not in the same unit or squad either. John Dove however is correct too that there is no 'department law' that blocks married cops from working in the 'same department'. The 'department' being the New York Police DEPARTMENT. Get it?

FR Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:12 PM EST

Hey I saw a comment saying the NYPD policy is in some NYPD guides and it's against that policy for married cops to work together on the same shift or the same squad or unit! Did someone delete that comment??!!

UH OH someone's trying to hide something!

Amused Cop Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM EST

John Dove's comments are inaccurate. The policy is clearly stated in the NYPD Patrol Guide and the NYPD Administrative Guide. Two married police officers cannot work on the same shift or in the same unit or squad. K.C. is correct.

Nerwen Aldarion Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:42 PM EST

Jules and Bored with Whining, I love you guys right now. Thanks for saying exactly what alot of us have been feeling. I to love what they have been doing with CSI NY this season and apparently veiwers agree since season 5 has a 20% increase of viewers from season 4. I think that some actually good writing for Danny and Lindsay might have something to do with that, as well great storylines for Stella, Mac and Flack as well.

I do have to agree with one commentor though, why has NCIS suddenly been left spoiler free????

Faylinn Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:32 PM EST

LOL, people sure are up in arms over a few long comments (and therefore leave comments to *say* they don't want to read the comments - very logical). It's over, move on. Discussion is not welcome here - point taken. *rolls eyes* You'd think I asked you to listen to an hour-long lecture about sea slugs instead of posting comments you could choose to scroll past. I don't watch Smallville - I scroll past comments about Smallville. It's pretty easy, you guys should try it some time. Sorry if I offended you by not heeding the all-important Character Limit.

Sarah: Pam Veasey said they *would* get married. Not now, no, but eventually.

DG Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 08:03 PM EST

in reguards to CSI:NY, this is what i found out:

"It is definitely not against the law.

It is probably only against policy if one supervises the other. A simple transfer would solve that."
from an officer with 17 years experience on the law enforcement

i hope tht helps shed some light on what KC was asking Ausiello

Kat Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

How can it get any worse on the Cuddy/baby front on House? Cuddy's obsession with babies, the Huddy and the Thirteen storylines are pulling this once great show into major suckitude.

I love ya, Mike, but call me when you've got something that *isn't* about Cuddy/House, Thirteen or Foreman.

I'd love some scoop on Cameron or Chase or Wilson if it's his own story line. It looks like hell will freeze over before that happens so in the meantime, anything on NCIS, Life or Flashpoint or my new obsession, Grey's Anatomy's Owen Hunt?

why all the whining? Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

what's up w/ all the whining?

i agree with whomever said this is not faylinn's personal blog.

ugh....Nobody Wants...to listen to your crap.

since you can type such long sentences, i'm sure you can understand that statement.

Sarah Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:44 PM EST

Is it just me or are we all not watching the same CSI NY? I believe that Lindsay turned down Danny's proposal, didn't she? I know that she didn't say never, but said not now. They may never marry so why are people in such a huff? I am personally loving this story line and can't wait to see more. :)

Meg Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:43 PM EST

Ausiello, you are phenomenal! My three favorite shows on TV: "Pushing Daisies," "Lost," and "Life on Mars" scoop--all in one week! (Some "Eli Stone" dish would have been nice too, but I can't ask for everything, can I?) I am so excited to hear closure for "Pushing Daisies". I can't wait to see how we leave our Coeur d'Coeur friends--although it's still the saddest TV news of the year to hear the cancellation. :(

bored with whining Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

Thanks, Michael, for your hard work! Hope you enjoy your holidays!

Faylinn: I believe you're confused. This is Michael Ausiello's column, not your own personal blog.

pils: Check it out! Ausiello just posted news of Julianne Nicholson's pregnancy. Why don't you stop off there and rant about the need for all actresses of child-bearing years to be sterilized, so that their reproductive organs won't infringe on your viewing pleasure.

Jules Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:07 PM EST

I think the criticism levelled at Anna Belknap is beyond ridiculous. She's not the greatest actor in the world but I think she portrays her character well. I have no problem with people criticising her portrayal if they feel it's justified but taking everything she says and using that in an attempt to demonstrate your viewpoint makes you look silly. It's hard to do any job when you're pregnant. I'd imagine it's even harder to do that job while trying to pretend you're not pregnant.

Amber Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

Thanks for the Hpuse scoop! :P

Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

Michael, you are an aushole. How can you just give up your anonymous "Tudors" source like that. Even though it pains me to say this, I hope that anyone who was thinking about helping you out with some secret scoop doesn't, so that you can learn a good lesson!

Why do people get so butthurt over every implied criticism of Anna Belknap? Does being pregnant put her in a bubble where mere mortals cannot express a negative opinion of her acting ability?
-
I'm happy for her and her family, but people who don't know her aren't required to send her a card or anything. Chillax.

Rabbit Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

You know what I was thinking of while reading the spoilers? WHY is every show taking a hiatus over the holidays?? It's not like there's anything that will replace it all that well. Wonder what's the dealio there?

Nerwen Aldarion Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:33 PM EST

Pils, once again you are criticizing a pregnant woman and once again you are coming off as the bad guy. She's reproducing so get over it. The decision for Danny and Lindsay to have a baby was NOT Anna's decision but the writers, they were the ones who chose to work it into the show, she just expressed her gratitude and happiness for making things a little bit easier on her as being pregnant does not make her job any easier. Lindsay being unlikable is your opinion which you are entitled to, but stop harrassing AB and yes you can be happy for a woman who is not your friend most CSI: NY fans did just that once they learned of AB's pregnancy and some of them don't like Lindsay either.

So please stop whining and bashing a pregnant woman, it's pathetic and a whole new low.

Faylinn Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

*sigh* And it becomes obvious that posting long comments is useless only because people don't bother to *read* them.
-
Yes, it's fiction. Thanks for the enlightening memo. I would point to previous comments I made to reply to this one, but I give up. If you didn't see my point then, you're not suddenly going to grasp it now.
-
And I'm relaxed, thank you, isanoot - however, if you're going to buy me a present, chocolate would be preferable.

pils Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

Uhm,no I hope to god that Anna isn`t lindsay cause then she would be annoying brat.
As far as knowing AB,Kelli..I might like her but then again I might not like her.
But so far her acting of the character Lindsay in a tv serie, doesn`t make me like her as an actress,so therefore I don`t have to be happy for her.
If she was a friend I would be happy for her but since she is not,I don`t feel or see the need to be happy for her.
For me it,at the moment she is the actress who can`t act that she isn`t pregnant because ,in her own words,it was tough to act not pregnant the first time around.
Which makes her one of the worst actresses on tv at the moment.

As for the character of Lindsay,it is a missed change to become actually a likeble character, but alas for ever she will be overshadowed by Danny

isanoot Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

I think we could all earn a little money to make a present for Faylinn and buy the song "Relax... take it eeeaaaassyyyyyyyyyy.."

Kelli Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

@pils. Storylines on TV change all the time. Its not wrong, its just how things work in TV land.

And in regards to AB. If you have never met her, then how do you know you dont like her. You may not like Lindsay but Lindsay isnt AB.

Jaime Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

@pils. Who forced them into marrying off Danny and Lindsay? A pregnancy doesnt have to equate to Marriage.

Also in RL CSI's dont question suspects, but they do on CSI NY. If you can accept that, you should be able to accept two fictional characters tying the not.

pils Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

Why should I be happy for Anna belknap,I don`t know the woman and i`m not planning on getting to know her anytime soon.
But the fact is that because she is pregnant the storyline has been changed and that is wrong on any level.

Jaime Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:51 PM EST

To Anon. I stand corrected. There is only five boroughs. Thanks for the Info.

And Faylinn. The real point in all this is, its fiction. Does it really matter? Why argue about it. TPTB said they asked the Chiefs office. If the Chiefs office say there is no official law, there isnt. People need to let it go. Its not as if this show hasnt asked us to suspend belief before.

Farva Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

Thanks, Tre about 'Life on Mars'.

Leona Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

I just wanted to say hi from France and say I hope mon amour (my love) TR stays and he gets with Lexie, not Mark, which is weird. mark and Lexie, non non.

Chuck Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:20 PM EST

A couple of comments about my 2 favorite shows, Chuck & Eli Stone. Clever on the part of the writers to use Reginald VelJohnson as the policeman who communicates with Chuck & crew on the inside during the hostage situation. That's funny, looks like a Die Hard clone right down to the "how you holdin' up in there, partner"? line.

As for Eli Stone, the BEST show on TV. Smart move ABC taking off a sure fire winner and completely clever show like Eli Stone and replacing it with another reality disaster, "What Would You Do"? Yes I'm sure it will get 7.9 million viewers, right!!! WTFrak?

Nerwen Aldarion Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:15 PM EST

Pils, that was a little rude towards Anna Belknap. You can have your opinions towards Danny and Lindsay but at least hold your tongue when it comes to bashing expectant mothers. We should all be happy for Anna and if you have issues with the directions Danny and Lindsay are going keep it in line with the characters, saying rude things about a pregnant Actress only makes you look bad.

Jonathan Brooks Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

I suspect that a lot of people who root for the Chlark or Clois paring need to think back about what the Smallville series is, at heart, about.

Throughout the series, the most important facet of the various plots has not been the villian of the month club, or the endless Bro-mance of Lex Luthor and Clark, or even the odd stalky relationship of Clark and Lana.

The most important thing about Smallville is family. Clark was defined by his relationship with hid dad, even after Jonathan died, and with his mom.

Clark was also in a endless series of family-like freindships, from the older brother-mentor of Lex, to the younger brother-confidant Pete, to the uncomfortable sister-first love of Chloe.

Essentially, romance took second tier to the extended semi-family that Clark created in his effort to replace his original family and planet and deal with the alienation he felt as the ultimate outsider.

pils Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 04:07 PM EST

Hahaha, well one thing is sure the NY bosses know how to spin information and know how to promote a storyline which is forced on them by an actress who obviously feels her biological clock is ticking
