Exclusive: 'True Blood' finds fresh meat in Camp and Jones

True Blood has just cast its first new roles for season 2, and both picks are bloody fantastic!

First up, Broadway babe Anna Camp — she’s currently horsing around with Daniel Radcliffe in Equus — has been tapped to play the series-regular role of Sarah, the hot-to-trot wife of Steve Newlin (aka the Fellowship of the Sun’s big kahuna). And The Bold and the Beautiful’s stellar Ashley Jones has booked a six-episode arc as Daphne, a new Merlotte’s waitress — and I hope, I hope a new love interest for poor Sam. (P.S. soap fans, no, she won’t be hanging up Doc Bridget’s well-worn stethoscope; the two-time Daytime Emmy nominee will juggle blood transfusions and blood-suckers.)

So what do you think, guys? Are you psyched about the new additions? Or are you too busy counting down the days (and days and days) ’til HBO’s Golden Globe-nominated smash kicks off its second season? Tell me about it below.

I CAN’T WAIT!!! After watching the 1st season, I’ve now read the 1st 3 books in the series and asked for the rest for x-mas. The books only get better and better

  • Dixie

I hope that Ashley Jones gets a better storyline than she has on B&B!

CAN’T WAIT TILL NEAXT SEASON. I READ THE BOOKS AFTER THE FIRST SEASON WAS OVER. IT ONLY TOOK ME 2 WEEKS TO READ THE FIRST 7. I READ 2 BOOKS IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. WE HAVE A HOUSE FULL ON SUNDAY NIGHTS WHEN THE SERIES WAS RUNNING, NOW WE ARE ALL HAVING A HELL OF A TIME FINDING SOMETHING TO GET INTO. SO SUMMER CAN’T COME FAST ENOUGH FOR US. KEEP THE UPDATES COMING.WE LOVE TO HEAR WHAT’S GOING ON. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE SOME OF THE OTHER PEOPLE THEY CAST…LIKE FOR STAN AND LEIF AND THE BELLBOY. AND TO SEE IF THEY ARE EVEN GONNA USE THEM CHARACTERS. THE SHOW IS ALOT DIFFERENT THAN THE BOOKS, BUT I LOVE THEM BOTH..IT’S LIKE TWO DIFFERENT STORIES WITH THE SAME PEOPLE..I DON’T MIND ONE LITTLE BIT…KEEP UP THE INFO.

    Great casts!
Im eagerly looking forward for the next season!
This was 2008 best new show!
Wondering if they are gonna follow the books storyline or do like they do on Dexter; make up their own!
    I cant wait! =)

  • Kay

I don’t know them really either. I’m going through withdrawls and counting the days till True Blood comes back with Season 2.

They’re both cute- so that’s a plus. My question is- Is Lafayette really dead?!? Please someone say its not true! We have a house full every sunday to watch and everyone of us Boo’d and Hiss’d when he disappeared and then they found a body in the car that sure as heck looked like him- Say it Aint So!

  • To Greg

Do you really want to know if he’s really dead? Read the book.

  • To Greg Again…

I would tell you myself but I don’t want to get in trouble for spoiling.

  • Ann

I am desperately awaiting the new series. I hope the two additions will be a plus to the show. If not…oh well!!

  • Sanna

Honestly, I just want the new season to start. I’m sure both will be a good add to the cast. But I just want to read something new about Bill and Sookie, hehe

  • Chele Belle

@greg: As to the existence of Lafayette, well let’s just say I HOPE & PRAY that Ball’s deviates from the books.

  • Dr. No

Very nice, very hot, very True Blood worthy.

  • Jen W

I can’t wait for the new season!! But here’s a tip…if you want more Sookie & Bill read the books! They are so AWSOME!!! I can’t stop reading them!

  • Lauren

Love the show, love the books. I am True Blood obsessed!

  • XSE Drake

POTENTIAL SPOILERS in Chele Bele’s post.

  • Lucas

lafayette is a joke. like a lot of the chances the Great Alan Ball deemed brilliant and needed. so I hope that he is the guy in the car and good riddance

  • Danman

I love how in the beginning, EW panned this show but now that it’s gained huge momentum, buzz, and praise they’ve decided to jump on board as if they knew it all along.

The books are horrible but the show is good (flawed, but good). With a little tightening in the writing dept, it could really be amazing. This is good casting and I’m really looking forward to season 2. Hope Michelle Forbes stays on as well! She’s fantastic.

please Ball please don’t follow the book. You don’t have to follow the book to the letter. You can take the concept and still run with your own ideas. that being said DON’T KILL OFF LAFAYETTE, PLEASE!!! He’s the only sane character and when he’s in scenes with Tara, he makes her bearable. Also do something so the actress doesn’t have to swallow her spit after every sentence. And please let sweet Sam have a love interest who loves him back.

  • DB

i’m counting down the days and days…i need more synthetic blood…why do they have to make the show so damn addictive, and now dexter’s over too, i can’t breathe.

  • lanolin….like sheep’s wool

I love “True Blood” and I am literally counting down the days until its return!! This series is great and the new additions will be wonderful!! I never read the books, but from what I’ve heard they suck…and not in a good way…so I’m glad Alan Ball has made the show so wonderful!

  • Kate

Honestly, Lafayette didn’t make that much of impression on me in the books, but I thought he woudl be safe since he is so much more developed. I am hoping for more of Eric and Pam as in the books, maybe leave out the werewolves, and I think that exploring the fairy connection will be interesting (that was just introduced in the last book, not fairies, but what Sookie has to do with them)

  • FRN

Man this ahow is a blast. Everyone I know is hooked on it. I don’t know which one I’m more addicted to, True Blood or 24. Any way, keep um coming. I’m suprised you havent came out with a True Blood Beverage. Maybe that’s next.

  • Leslie

People, the Sookie Stackhouse books do not SUCK. Stop saying it if you haven’t even read any of them. Put down the remote and read the books, then you can have an opinion about them. It’s nice you like the show, so there’s no need to insult the source material if you don’t even know what you’re talking about!

  • McPickles

This show makes me pee and poop. But then again, so does Hogan’s Heroes. GO SOOKIE !

  • gg

    Great,just great!

  • dreamoftrueblood

Why isn’t anyone saying anything about Bubba! He was in the first book. I would love to see who would play him!!!!!!!

  • KittyJules

I’m so glad that people are reading these wonderful books! I have read the series two or three times and just love them. They are the reason I was so excited to see the show. The show was hard to watch at first because of the changes from the book, but I soon feel in love with the show too. It is easy to like both!!! If you haven’t yet read the books, I hightly recommend them!
