I agree with those who think that Joe is real. If you were forced to wake up every night with a wife who'd had another bad dream about someone dying, you'd be a bit bad-tempered, too. He loves his children, he worries about his wife's health, physical and emotional, and he tries to have his own career. Hey, the guy isn't perfect, but he sure damn tries. "Medium" is a show about a family trying to cope in today's world that happens to have this strange kind of other-worldliness at its core. Compare it to the derivative "Ghost Whisperer," which is the worst kind of melodramatic claptrap on television.

I'm not disagreeing that "he's human". That pretty much makes my point.
All the (TV) critics saying how great of a guy he is and polls saying he's the the best husband on television . . . that's rubbish. A "great guy" & "best husband on tv" should be 100% supportive of their spouse and not demeaning of their gifts or abilities. A brain surgeon's spouse wouldn't tell them that medicine doesn't really exist and that their poking around inside someone's skull to save them was just blind luck.
I concede the fact that "he's human"; but in real life he'd be considered borderline emotionally abusive, and not a "great guy".

Joe isn't unsupportive, he's human. Do you think in real life brain surgeons' spouses are always thrilled when the surgeon gets called to an emergency to save someone's life? I'm sure they whine just as much as he does. What's important is that in the end they acknowledge the contribution their spouse makes. I love this show.

I love Medium and can't wait for it to return in January. I don't agree with the comments about Joe not being supportive of Allison. He is a great father and husband and is always there for his wife. We should all be so lucky!

I agree with CKought, Joe has always bothered me with his back and forth behaviour with Allison. One minute he's all for her helping people, then the next scene he's whining about it. Good grief! I am thrilled with the show's return however, it's nice to have a main character who isn't a size 2, a show with great storylines that can be serious and funny all at the same time, and great guest stars!

I had to stop watching it because I found it offensive how unsupportive and condescending he was always being toward her. He always acted like it was an inconvenience that his wife solved murders . . . "Geez honey, do I have to take the girls to school so you can go capture the cold-blooded killer?" "I wish you'd stop having dreams about serial killers so I can get some sleep." "It's all in your head . . . those hundreds of killers you've caught have just been dumb luck."

Yeah, real cool guy.

I love "Medium". It's one of the very best shows on TV. I don't know why NBC can't put it on in September like all the rest of the shows. Instead, they try out new shows which are not as good as "Medium". I'm so glad it is finally coming back.

Last year NBC held medium until January so I hoped that was the case this year as well.

The decline of quality on Heroes has made me come to appreciate Medium and Smallville, shows which approach people with powers in convincing and often nuanced ways. Heroes' creative crew could do far worse than to study both shows.
